We would really benefit from a Paradise Bakery in this area because Panera is not living up to the hype. I ordered a Pick two, which was half a chicken salad sandwich that was lacking in flavor and the bread resembled a Gas station sandwich that was prepackaged. The young girl gave me supreme customer service if there was a doubt she double check with someone on questions that I had in regards to the menu. They have really good m&m cookies more like organic m and ms they remind me of elementary school cookies from the cafeteria. Things have sure changed for these restaurants. Just recently went here and was surprised. Instead of ordering at the counter with a real employee, they expect customers to order digitally on tablets displayed. Yes, technology is awesome but when it takes away from an actual employee taking your order, that is so cold and unfriendly. The old school aspect of having an actual employee take your order can be argued as far superior. If anything, it is nice to get an actual human who may greet you and say - like- how are you? May I take your order? Also, you can actually ask an employee questions like- is this sandwich spicy? If I order this salad, can I have it with a different salad dressing? etc... Surely you cannot do this through technology. I only saw a few employees there and they seem inconvienced when asked to help. Food appears to now be prepared in advance and then defrosted. Food is decent , prices are a little outrageous for portion sizes but the only thing that really ticked me is when the workers prepping food have the meanest attitude! A family member (who loves cookies) turned a year older today. While I'm not in the area, I know some people who are and pulled a favor for someone to pick up my order and deliver it to the birthday boys doorstep. I placed an order online for a dozen cookies. At other locations I've found this to be a risky move because they're often out of certain flavors or types. They were also sold as 4 packs (I got 3 different flavors) but I was hoping they would be presented nice... there's always a risk and I don't know how they do it. I left a message on my order asking them to place them in a pastry box together and they were being delivered to someone for their birthday. To my surprise, they had all the cookies and flavors in stock, placed them in a perfectly presented pastry box for me, and wrote happy birthday (and drew balloons) on the outside of the box! I drive into town from my campsite and was waiting for the sporting goods place in the mall to open, decided to take the dog for a walk then get something here. glad I did! I'm vegan so I asked about a side of avocado to put on the sourdough bowl I ordered. The clerk hooked me up with a whole avocado as well as a side order of turkey for the dog. with coffee, it was still under $11. a lot of places really gouge you for sides of avocado, but Panera didn't. the place was clean, bathrooms available, workers helpful. I was just at Panera getting started with my workday. And I happen to take my service dog with me. He barked once and the manager there Angela came out and basically raised her voice at me didn't say good morning and told me my dog is not allowed there Only service dogs are allowed... she didn't bother to ask me if my dog was a service dog which he is but just her attitude and the way she approached me was completely uncalled for I was nice. Looked at her and just said OK. Also, I could see by the look of a female employee sitting near by that was also waiting to clock in for her shift she didn't want my dog there.... I am very disappointed. I have been there before with my dog....also when I went to ask for the supervisors name, I was only given her first name, even though I asked what her last name was the employee at the front just repeated her first name... It was almost as they were smiling for asking me to leave...I'm very disappointed. I will not be back again and apparently that's what they want is for me not to go back again. I know that I am late to the party, but I finally got the chance to visit this particular Panera location! I think I have found my new favorite cafe in Salinas to do some work on my computer (yesssss free wifi). This particular Panera location is nice and clean. The interior is spacious. The coffee area is neat and well-maintained. Panera is a chain so the decor is standard - muted colors and everything comes together quite harmoniously. As to the food, thus far I have only tried the Cold Brew iced coffee - strong and bitter as it should be. Their Chocolate Chipper cookies are BOMB though (better than the Kitchen Sink cookie in my opinion). The cookie has a fresh, home-baked taste to it. (Side note: since I was sitting by the order pick-up area I noticed that there was a handful of people complaining of a mistake with their order... just a little something that I observed.) Overall, this Panera location is a lovely place for studying or just hanging out. They have a variety of food and beverage options to satisfy your needs - whether it be a pastry for your sweet tooth or some java for your caffeine fix. They even have a plethora of soups, salads, and sandwiches if you are in the mood for heartier fare. I predict that I will be frequenting this Panera location quite often! read more

I have tried Panera in different locations but not with a drive-thru I have to admit it's cool we have one in Salinas and sad people are having a bad experience. I'm going to give it 5 stars for getting a new type of food joint in the area AND because although the time was a bit long (15-20 mins drive-thru) I felt the quality was good for the food and the guys was very courteous.
