My son and I are African American and were in line today at the Panera Bread in Coleman Plaza. When we were called next to give our order, we were literally knocked out of the way as we walked to the register by a White male. He approached the counter and was instantly waited on by Maddie, a White employee, with zero recognition of his actions. When I mentioned my son and I were next and his behavior was extremely rude, Brisa Hernandez (the store manager) jumped in and said "we don't have time for you, can't you see we are busy". I asked for an apology, she refused and said there was nothing I could do about it, because she was the manager. I reported the incident to corporate and hopefully the Franchise owners will address the incident that I believe would not have occurred if my son and I were White. read more

Ridiculous! Absolutely went out of their way to make sure they charged an additional dollar for substituting avocado on an Asian sesame salad due to the "new system update". I've ordered it this way for the last 4 years at least and they had made a way to make it work and then act as if they were unsure if they can keep it this way. So the manager walks up and asks what's happening and says no we cannot make it look as if she's ordered chicken and avocado. Even though they essentially want to change me as if I have! Eat shit! i came here with 2 friends after running a race across the street @ arena green/guadalupe park. i hadn't eaten at panera for a while, so was pleasantly surprised to see the new offerings on their menu for breakfast/brunch, as well as iPads available for credit card orders (which saved time waiting in line to order with a human being). i actually ended up doing a customized order on the iPad, which was really convenient since you could add or subtract any ingredient you wanted: +egg white +spinach +tomato +red onion +avocado +feta cheese +everything bagel i clicked order, swiped my credit card, took a pager, and sat down with my friends. a few minutes later, my pager buzzed and i collected my order. my breakfast sammy was made exactly as i specified, and still warm, which was perfect since i was starting to get cold after my run! all of the ingredients tasted pretty fresh, and i thought this was well worth the $5 and change that i paid. great location inside the san jose market center, which is conveniently located just off the 87 freeway and very close to downtown san jose. read more

I hardly ever eat-in here, always do take-out or order ahead. No problems with prompt and ease of service in either case. I'm a big fan of their butternut squash soup during the fall season - so creamy and delicious, and a broccoli cheddar soup lover any time! Unfortunately broccoli cheddar soup is a fave among most, so occasionally it ran out a couple times we placed an online order. The option is not grayed out an unclickable option, so until you reach check out you don't know that it's not available. Website glitch or not, it's quite a bummer! I have had this location cater my company's lunches a few times and only once was there an issue with a missing sandwich. I called to amend the issue, and a credit was given vs a new sandwich (because it would have taken too long to arrive). The delivery folks are super nice and come within the time frame selected. A little pricey, but much better quality and variety than Specialty's for sure! Will order from them again! read more

I use Panera for many of my corporate needs. A few months ago I experienced an issue with one of the restaurants and reached out to management. Corporate quickly contacted me, took care of the issue and followed up, additionally expressed that I give them another chance. I always come to this Panera bread , never had a bad experience. However today, we came 45 mins before closing. We order our food and the cashier asked if we wanted to eat in or take it out. I asked if we could eat in and she said yes. She was super kind and great customer service. While we were enjoying our dinner one of the employees cleaning said aloud "I already clean so if they make a mess is not my problem" I found it so unprofessional and uncomfortable. I immediately contacted the customer service for panera bread via live chat and was told they can only give me 2 $10 awards on a mypanera account for up to 30 days. That's a little silly, an expiration date on when I can use the compensation, so I asked if it could be removed. Unfortunately, it cannot be increased past 60 days. If there's one thing Panera does right, it's the Republic of Tea - my favorite brand! They make the most hearty herbals, rich blacks with great quality and attention to flavor. I often buy these teas from world market, but Panera's got them stocked and that's always a good thing. It's really the small things that make me happy, and they are doing right by me. I also like that Panera is not just bakery. Or too much overwhelming bread. It's the perfect amount of "order in the front" and affordable pricing. They make lunches as well, but I've never had them. We ate dinner here tonight, Panera Bread. I had a turkey, bacon avacado on sour dough bread. I could have made it better at home. The sandwich was barely average. My grandaughter, 5, only ordered an apple, & chips, but refused more than one bite of the apple it was musshy. That means old to me. My son had a 1/2 sandwich & chicken Alfredo. He said it was not special. Just ok. His wife had same. She thought it was okay. My daughter had a salad & tomatoes basil soup. She said salad was good but stated the soup tasted kind of like ragu spaghetti sause from a jar, but not quite that good. On that food slone its barely a one star. To top it off, we went to collect our pastry at the end of the meal & found a fly kicking back on a cinnamon roll. All of the pasties were sitting out on the open. Completely exposed to this & other flies, dust, air, you name it. I told the cashier there was a fly on the pasty. She acted not at all concerned. She said that's because the door keeps opening. (Yeah, so customers can cone in) The complete lack of concern, really freaked me out. leaving me to wonder what other disgusting food safety measures were they ignoring! I asked for the manager who came & directed them to return my four dollars the amount from my $58 dinner ticket I spent for 4 pastries. $.99 if purchased with a meal. She never apologized, she never removed the fly, she never even tossed out the roll the fly was still sitring on. In fact, she did not even looked me in the face. By now cashier number 2 had taken over it had been more than 7 minutes & the fly was still bouncing around from roll to roll. Not one person lifted a finger to correct the situation. I asked the server, don't you think you should do something about this. She said like what. I said, like covering the food so that flies can't crawl all over it . Her response, " We can't cover them, the moisture would ruin the pastry." Evidently millons of germs & fly larva isn't bad enough for them To consider them ruined. Pathetic! Will never go back & if you value your health, neither should you. I asked for the number to the store manager. I probably came here for at least two times already travelling into San Jose from Sacramento. It's a typical Panera Bread. Went to many in Sacramento, and one in Stockton. I ordered a cheese pastry and a mocha. It's pretty typical. WIFI is pretty limited, so don't count on staying here all day if you are having a meeting or study. You're limited to a certain amount of time. They do this so you are not lounging around and that they have a fresh set of customers throughout the day. Understandable! I have to say.....pretty much wherever I look in this particular Panera Bread...people are very tech savvy. Wherever I look, someone is with a tablet or laptop. Not very common in Sacramento. Interesting and still typical Panera Bread. Not bad.....its clean and well maintained. Food still taste good. I recommend it to people to try it out. read more

After months of not eating at Panera, I decided to come here and get my usual: you pick 2 with Asian sesame chicken salad and tomato soup. When I was ordering, I was truly disappointed that they said they took it down and replaced it with the Chinese cashew chicken salad. The employee said it tasted good so I ordered it with tomato soup. After waiting just about 5 minutes, I got my order and started chowing down. I was more disappointed when I ate the salad because it tasted like fruit salad. It was so acidic that I felt like my tongue lost some taste buds. The soup was also blander than what I recalled last time I had it. Will I be coming back again? I'm no longer really a fan of Panera. At one point I adored their soups. An ex of mine is from St. Louis so it was a mainstay in our date rotation. But is it just me or have the sandwiches gotten... bad? I remember them having more meat. I remember them being warm and filling. When I first moved to San Jose I ate here every Saturday. After a couple months, the boyfriend and I have finally scaled back to once every 2-3 weeks. What's so good? The Fuji apple salad. It comes with an apple viniagrette in addition to apple chips and pecans which totally make the salad for me. The Tuscan chicken sandwich with pesto aioli is also a winner. I bought an assortment of pastries and a sandwich from this place and I was pleasantly surprised with the good flavor and freshness of it all. This is not your local Deli or local Bakery - its a chain straight up - but if you are in a strip mall location and this is the option for you to eat this is a great place to pop in and get a delicious bite. They have a large array of sandwiches, soups and salads to select from and they are all served on their in-house fresh bread. It was truly yummy to take a bite of my sandwich on such a tender piece of bread. The service was great, very kind folks and the place was totally busy and packed with people. The have a great selection of hot sandwiches, and I love their soups with their bread. I believe this location has free wi-fi as well. Their food seems fresh and the taste is great.
