    Chicken, Avocado sandwich!

The drive through is clean & the food is ready right after you order. They have delicious BLT's that come with apple/chips & a drink.

    Mediterranean Sandwich (not my photo)

I love Panera so much. The food is so good and they are very allergy aware. I have a family member who is very allergic to nuts and this is one of the few places she can eat. In my personal experience, the Mediterranean sandwich is to die for. It is vegetarian friendly and so refreshing. I mostly order online so I can't speak much about the service but the one time I did order in person, they gave me a free drink so I would say it's pretty good. The seating is also good however some of the benches are pretty worn out. Overall I love Panera and would recommend if you're looking for a low cost place to grab a quick bite of food.

It was once seen as a point of pride that Panera was not just based in St. Louis (I'm assuming), but it was known locally as St. Louis Bread Company, or just BreadCo. Yeah, St. Louis was a bleak, uninhabitable hellscape, but we had BreadCo. What did you have? Exactly. BreadCo was the original fast-casual restaurant, in a time before Chipotle, Five Guys and the like. You couldn't stand there and tell them each individual item you wanted on your sandwich like the world's most insufferable four-year-old, but the food was of a higher quality than what you'd get at, say, McDonald's (the bar was on the floor) and there was none of the BS that comes with dining at a fancy sit-down restaurant. No failed creative types with crippling addictions explaining to you that they do things differently here. But that was 30 years ago. BreadCo's reputation seems to have suffered in the interim. Few of them are even called BreadCo anymore. This one isn't. Designs of newer locations are increasingly soulless, like the dining areas of nursing homes that are fully covered by Medicare, where they have to padlock the doors to keep people from trying to escape. People were dropping dead, a while back, from drinking lemonade with too much caffeine, which was seemingly marketed to tweakers, and they stopped baking their own bread and laid everyone off. I stopped by a new location of Panera, in a strip mall near the Inner Belt, in a veritable murderer's row along with the other Four Horsemen of Gentrification (Raising Cane's, Jersey Mike's and Five Guys), too see if it's indeed all over for the once-beloved establishment. There's an option to pick two menu items, along with a complimentary side. I'm sure you've seen it. It's presented as if it's this great value, but it ends up costing you money out the ass. But it's the way to order your lunch, if you can justify it to yourself. You can get a soup and a sandwich, or a sandwich and a salad, or probably any combination of the three. I toyed with the idea of getting a soup and a sandwich, but I suspected that the amount of soup that comes in a "cup" would be an insult, but a full-on broccoli and cheddar soup in a bread bowl, which I was contemplating, might be overkill. Also, they of course charge you for the upsize, and this was a Saturday, so there was no way I could refinance my house. I went with a half-sandwich and a half-salad--the Italian Steak and Mozzarella and the Green Goddess Cobb with Chicken, or whatever they're calling it. For my free side, I of course went with the bag of chips and not the apple or the tiny baguette. The sandwich already has bread on it. Why would I need additional bread? If you order in a combo like that, they'll sell you a cookie for half off. You have to cop a cookie, because it's the one thing that Panera makes that's honestly better than anywhere else. Better than Crumbl. Better than other sandwich shops. Better than places that don't sell anything other than cookies. I went with an oatmeal raisin cookie with cranberries, or something along those lines. All told, I spent about $22, which was entirely too much but more or less par for the course these days. I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the meal, and I was pleasantly surprised. I've never had anything from Panera that I didn't like, but I'd bought into the hype. Man, eff that BS! The sandwich was amazing. The ciabatta bread had some sort of garlic-bread-like substance slathered on both sides, providing, erm, moisture, and flavor. I'm sure the steak came from an industrial-size container and was warmed in a microwave, but damn it if it wasn't good. It was flavorful, and it wasn't all chewy. It might remind you of the steak at a Taco Bell, but maybe even a bit better. (Yeah, I said it!) The salad was good, but not as good. The lettuce and what have you was all fresh, even though I'm sure it was prepared earlier and stored in a cooler. The ingredients are all arranged separately, I guess so you can see that they're all there, but it's kind of a pain to, uh, toss them in the little to-go container. The bacon didn't taste like much, as is often the case with fast-food bacon, and they don't give you enough of the green goddess, I guess to hit a certain calorie count on the menu. And that, along with word-count restrictions, brings us to the cookie. It had a nice heft to it, and it was nice and moist, but with a substantial chew to it. It's hard to believe they didn't bake it right there in the store, though there's hardly room in the kitchen for anything other than a microwave. I'm as inclined to hate on restaurants as anyone, for the sake of my self-esteem, but Panera seems to have found a way to serve once-frozen food that could almost pass as fresh. More power to them.

    Ciabatta Cheesesteak
    Mary C.

Yum, I had forgotten how good Panera bread was! We got the ciabatta cheesesteak and wild chicken and rice soup (plus the accompanying baguette). The sandwich was delicious and the soup creamy and flavorful. Service was fast. The baguette was kinda hard to chew but the ciabatta bread was great.

Was at the Panera Bread on Clayton Road. Typical of Bread Co.,/Panera, great choices for breakfast items and a coffee. Saturday is popular for a leisurely visit and nosh with a friend or just a nice atmosphere for an ease into the weekend. Order at the counter and receive a smile with your order.

Literally a grab & go location. Kiosk or app orders only; there are no registers or team members readily waiting to take your order on arrival. You will not see the typical bakery display setup either. Quaint inside seating is available but the space is really just not inviting of a dine-in experience. Food was prepared properly & promptly. The evolution of Panera is upon us. ~Christy

Brand new place that open at the plaza right across the street from Costco. The space is bright and open. The staff here are nice. Everything here is new. There are several kiosks to use to order. There are several available seatings.

You probably had to go to New Jersey. When they began to appear, it was at a time when I wasn't eating at restaurants as often. (I was not in jail.) An opportunity presented itself when a location opened in a strip mall near where I live, along with the other four horsemen of the gentrification apocalypse: Raising Cane's, Panera and Five Guys. Plus a Chase Bank branch, which you're gonna have to visit if you plan to eat at any of these places. I stopped by at noon-ish to have a look, for the sake of citizen food journalism. There was a healthy, but not overwhelming, crowd. A lot more people than at the Five Guys next door. I suspect that people have begun to resent Five Guys because of their prices, even though you end up spending nearly as much, if not more, at Jersey Mike's. It can't be due to the quality of the food. I ate there and it was amazing. The inside of this Jersey Mike's is not very big. You can eat there if you want to (I did), but you might not want to take a date there. You're gonna be in there nuts-to-butts, and not intentionally so. It's set up like a Subway, or any number of other fast casual restaurants that were clearly inspired by Subway. You order at one end of the line, explain to a sandwich artist how you'd like your sandwich and then pay at the other end of the line. Options are a lot more limited--intentionally so, I'm assuming. None of this BS where there's, mathematically speaking, a million different permutations of a ham sandwich. As if. You can get a sandwich on white, wheat or rosemary parmesan. Or some gluten-free option, which, why would you even be at a Jersey Mike's? Sandwiches are served Mike's Way--lettuce, tomato, onion and an oil-and-vinegar blend--by default, to save people who can't read, and people with stuttering problems, from holding up the line. Is that the case even if you order a cheesesteak? Possibly. This is Missouri, after all. There's only a small handful of things you can get in addition to the standard dress: pickles, banana peppers, jalapenos and some sort of pepper relish. I was curious to know what that pepper relish, or whatever it was, tastes like, but it wasn't that serious. Would the sandwich artist have objected if I'd asked him to give me just a little bit, in my hand, to taste, as if I were at a 31 Flavors? I wasn't about to find out. Peace to Ani DiFranco. Before I left the house, I asked an AI what the ideal order at a Jersey Mike's was. It said to order a Club Sub, Mike's Way. A Club Sub is something along the lines of a club sandwich, minus the extra bread in the middle, the Ruffles potato chips and the dill spear. It has, as I recall, turkey, ham, bacon and provolone. For whatever reason, seemingly all the sandwiches here come with provolone as the default cheese selection. What, no love for Swiss? The Club Sub mostly just tastes like turkey. Turkey in general doesn't really taste like anything, but deli meat turkey has a very distinctive flavor. The bacon is precooked and nothing that would pass muster somewhere where it's the primary focus of your breakfast. The wheat bread was nice and robust, with a bit of chew to it, perhaps to withstand the deluge of oil-and-vinegar blend. It soaks into the bread and softens it up a bit, not unlike an Italian beef or a French dip. If you're opting out of the oil-and-vinegar blend (which they disgustingly refer to as "the Juice"), again, I'm not sure why you're eating here. In addition to the sandwich, which itself ran me upwards of $20, I got chips, a soda and a cookie. It cost me almost exactly the same amount I recently paid for a cheeseburger (i.e. a double cheeseburger), fries and a shake at the Five Guys next door. The jalapeno kettle chips were mediocre. They might need to consider another brand--unless the titular Mike owes someone there money. The cookie was amazing. It doesn't look like much, and it's packaged like it might have rolled off an assembly line in an industrial area over in Maryland Heights, but it's incredibly rich. I probably won't live as long as a result of having eaten it. Given how much I spent, that might be for the best anyway.

This was so good; we came here the whole week we were in St. Louis for lunch! The office I was working in was on the same block as Pastaria Deli & Wine, so a less than five-minute walk from the office, so no driving or need to hail an Uber was awesome. Inside there are wine bottles all over the walls and it just has this cozy, Italian café/deli vibe. Depending on when you get there, the line to the cash register can snake out the door, but it moves pretty fast. There's a surprising number of tables inside and since the weather was nice, there were several tables out in front. Each day, we had the same cashier, Carly (I believe that's her name). Carly was incredibly bubbly, cute, fun! Once we placed our order, we received a metal tag with a number on it and found a table. I didn't order any sort of specialty drink; I took advantage of the free water located near the back of the restaurant. The time from when we placed our order to getting our lunch was pretty quick, even when the place was packed for lunch. So for the three days I was in St. Louis, I ordered these three sandwiches: 1. Il Capo Italiano: Lemon ricotta, mortadella, soppressata, mozzarella, giardiniera, salted potato chips (Miss Vickie's most likely), arugula, red wine vinegar, & extra virgin olive oil on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - A jam-packed sandwich! The lemon ricotta was amazing and the crunch from the salted potato chips was excellent. Beware that this sandwich is heavy on the oils, so be prepared to "wear" this sandwich the rest of the day unless you brought your toothbrush. haha This sandwich was plenty thick, the slices of mozzarella really helped to make this sandwich thick and filling. 2. Volpi Heritage Prosciutto: Volpi Heritage prosciutto, butter, lemon olive oil, & house-made giardiniera on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The lemon olive oil was a very pleasant flavor, not too strong. Of the three sandwiches I ordered, this was the smallest in terms of fillings but it was still plenty filling for lunch with a bag of Miss Vicky's Spicy Dill Pickle chips! 3. Chicken Bacon Ranch: Thin sliced chicken breast, bacon, smoked cheddar cheese, tomato, arugula, banana peppers, & jalapeno-ricotta ranch on a 6.5" Union Loafers Hoagie - The sliced chicken breast was piled on thick and the bacon was a welcome addition. There was plenty arugula and banana peppers inside but the jalapeno-ricotta ranch elevated this! Creamy with a slight spicy kick to it. I didn't have one bad meal here and for the quality and quantity, I felt the prices were pretty reasonable, especially in the year 2026. Pastaria Deli & Wine is an awesome lunch spot! The friendly staff, cool, authentic Italian-vibes, fast service, and the quality food, it comes together here! I can't wait to come back through St. Louis for work and stop in here again for lunch, maybe I'll even treat myself to some of their gelato!

This is easily a five-star review, and it's coming from someone who isn't a true BBQ lover. I wasn't sure what to order, but the friendly staff recommended that I have the brisket, and I'm so glad I heeded their advice. The brisket sandwich was the most tender meat that I have ever had. I had never had brisket before having that sandwich, now my mouth waters any time I talk about this restaurant! The cole slaw that I had as a side provided the perfect crunch and balance. My mate had the pulled pork sandwich, which was also very tender. I also loved having a variety of barbecue sauces on the table and was able to try each one. Everyone has a preference, I'm sure, but after trying each one, I am completely sold on the Carolina gold. Also, I do not typically have a fountain soda, but the cola that was on tap was some of the best that I'd ever tasted. 10 out of 10 for Sugarfire, and I will definitely be returning the next time I'm in St. Louis!

I was craving barbecue and decided to give Sugarfire a try. The parking lot is a decent size, with…read moregenerally plenty of parking available. The giant pig statue in front of the restaurant was actually quite informative, as it described where the meat comes from on a pig. Anyway, as I entered the restaurant, I stood in line. It was quite busy for a Saturday afternoon. There are long tables with many seats, so seating wasn't an issue. It is a first come first served dining situation. I ordered the 2-meat plate: brisket, ribs, baked beans, and potato salad. The brisket and the sides were definitely my favorite parts. The brisket was so tender, it basically fell apart in my hands! It was delicious! The baked beans were tangy and sweet, and the potato salad was creamy. I didn't like the ribs, they were very dry and definitely not worth the money. The barbecue sauces are in bottles on the table; my personal favorite was the Honey Badger, sweet with a little bit of heat. I found the Coffee BBQ sauce to be the most interesting; I have never had anything like it before. The coffee notes were subtle and helped balance out the smoky flavors. While I enjoyed the majority of my food, I am not sure if I will be returning. It was a nice experience, but the dry ribs left me feeling disappointed.
