I am from St. Louis, where Panera started as the St. Louis Bread Company, and I was quite a fan of it. Over the years have been there many times, and I once lived within a half a mile of its corporate headquarters. So my wife and I stopped north of Cincinnati to get food, because she likes it. I find it OK. Although I have ceased getting coffee from them, though, because every time I get coffee, it's cold or luke warm. I complain and they said it'll make you some fresh and they brought out a new pot and it was the same. They don't put hot water in the pot before they fill it up with the coffee so the coffee heats up the pot and gets cold. But that doesn't have to do with today's events--we stopped to order and my wife tried to pull up her app, and the app didn't work and then said it needed to be updated, but there was no update available on the iPhone store. Then we thought we'd go ahead and order, but it turned out they didn't have any bread, they had bagels and asiago bread and that was it so anything I ordered had to fit into that. I could get the bacon turkey bravo sandwich because they had the bread for that, but I like to get the French onion soup in my you-pick-two, which they make well, but it comes with a side of baguette, but they didn't have any baguette, and then I said, "could you substitute another bread" and they said oh no, no substitutions. read more

My husband and I went in for a late lunch/early dinner at 4:30 p.m. on a weekday. A sign was on the door that they were closing early at 8 p.m. due to staffing issues (and there were bunches of signs for interviews and hiring.) Luckily, there were only a few people sitting at the tables and no one in line, with 3 workers behind the counter. Unfortunately, nobody was cleaning any of the mostly dirty, empty tables. My husband ordered a new Asian chicken salad without cilantro and the cashier said, so you want the chicken flatbread? Luckily, he did receive what he ordered, but it was 85 to 90% lettuce. For $13. He still liked the taste of the chicken and Asian dressing, which upped this review to two stars. My stomach wasn't feeling great, so I got a bowl of chicken noodle soup. It came nice and warm and the flavor of the broth was rich and herby. It was a good thing the broth was so tasty as there were 2 noodles, 2 tiny cubes of chicken and maybe 3 small slices of carrots in the bowl. Cost $7. If I had felt better, I would have taken the bowl back to the counter and asked for actual soup instead of broth. I don't know if it's an understaffing issue, that employees aren't trained because of turnover, or each has too many tasks, or if it's Panera itself. I had an easy request to add some additional dressing to my order and I wasn't sure how to add with the tablet when I was placing the order. I'm going to start by saying that I already had my expectations set: this is a Panera. It's a chain, they do what they do in bulk for a crowd. I came here yesterday for pre-soccer breakfast before 9:00 on a weekday. They were out of a lot of things. It looked like they had 3 kinds of bagels, a few pastries. We tried to order a couple of things but they were out so we went basic. We waited for a while at the counter for someone to come help us though there seemed to be a few people working and almost nobody inside. The food they had was good, the manager stepped in for his apparent trainee, we ate and left. We tried again this morning at 9:00 and the shelves were even more bare. I got a bad vibe from the way the person greeted me, just a touch on the aggressive side. Maybe it was me. "What can I do for YOU?" I asked what they had this morning. "Sorry, just cinnamon bagels." I said thanks and left. This Panera didn't offer their signature range of baked goods in quantity for a crowd. Service ranged from trying to maybe not. I usually love Panera and the atmosphere! However, the shift supervisor took our order and seemed that we were "holding" her up as if she had something else to do. She wasn't very friendly, just gave us the total and sent us on our way. The bathrooms were not very clean but weren't a mess either. It was fairly slow with the snow that was coming down. I am quite the lover of Panera Bread. My "My Panera" card would show I usually stop in at many locations multiple times a month. Unfortunately, at this location, I have had more negative experiences than positive. Most employees are usually quite pleasant at Panera, but at this one, I have experienced being cut off at the drive thru while ordering and the staff being very short at the window (Examples: pulling up and them saying the total without saying hello or anything of the sort; receiving my food with just a "here you go" followed by the window closing). Something a bit more warm would seem appropriate. My largest complaint is the amount of time I've waited at the drive thru. When it's not rush hour, it is not unlikely to wait 10-15 minutes. I've purposely watched the size of the bags given in front of me and they aren't large. This leads me to believe there is a staffing problem. The drive thru should be convenient but almost never is. I also do not prefer their Rapid Pick up station being all the way at the back of the restaurant rather than right at the front like most others. For these reasons, I typically go out of my way to go to another location or skip it altogether. read more
