Staff can be friendlier in this place. I always feel like everyone is standoffish. Service is quick, food never comes out cold. I love the broccoli cheddar soup and French Onion. They used to have a Thai salad. Please bring it back. read more

I usually do dine in or pick up. Pick up is quick and the food is usually better than if you got delivery. Dine in food is best though. Usually hot and without rotting pieces. It does tend to get crowded, and it doesn't always look very clean. read more

Lots of construction out front on the facade and sidewalk, but they're still open. Inside, busy and a lot of people with laptops grinding away. Ordering kiosks upfront (3) for those who don't want to talk to a person, and cashiers more towards the back. Lots of bagels and pastries up on the wall behind, though after a day there, not sure how soft they are anymore. Tried the flatbread pizza - meh, too smoky for the pepperoni for me, and the chocolate chip cookie didn't make a "meltingly good" or "crisp/chips ahoy" stand... instead it was sorta soft, sorta chewy and overall didn't satisfy for a $2.75 cookie. This location just gave me what seems to be raw chicken skin. In my chipotle chicken avocado sandwich. That's disgusting. The chicken is always an issue on this sandwich never cooked completely. Seems like it's for animal chow. This time I got it to see if they would have a better day. Nope they gave me chicken skin and barely cooked chicken. I tried to bake it some more at home because I was too far to go back for a replacement. Baking it didn't help because I burnt the bread and the chicken was still needing another 15-20 mins of cooking. Never ordering that again. Now because it was a pick two I had broccoli cheddar soup that was the same good. I also ordered a 2nd pick two just in case the chipotle chicken sandwich was bad. The Tuna is always my go to because they don't mess it up. The tuna sandwich has a different bread now and I hate it. The sandwich was great because of its original bread and how it complimented the tuna and greens. Now you get regular multi grain bread slices like I made the sandwich at home. During my visit, I experience good customer service. This is actually my second time visiting this Panera location and asking about a Vegan option. An employee suggests a custom sandwich order which consists of Avocado, cucumbers, greens, and onions. The sandwich comes with a surprise, a random hint of jam, which offers a sweet flavor I appreciate in the sandwich and that I actually want more of with every passing bite without it. Way too unprofessional here and they are understaffed. You order on DoorDash, and still have to stand up in a long a$$ line. When you ask the cashier where to pick up the order, common sense will tell you to just give the customer the order, but instead you will get an attitude because they either dont like you for whatever personal reasons, or are just miserable at the job. This is my go to Panera in addition to the Edison one in NJ. The staff are always Nice and accommodating if you have any issues with the food and the portions are good. I've gone to many other paneras in different states And the ones in New Jersey seem to be really good and especially the West Orange one. I purchased a quart of corn chowder soup at counter today. I picked up bag with a few other items. I got to car and noticed it looked very red for chowder soup. I opened it and stuck my finger in to taste, it was tomato soup. I took it back and told the expediter wrong soup and I tasted it. Instead of just giving me the tomato soup he swapped it out for the chowder. He put the tomato soup on counter. Then I saw the line cook pour it into the daily soup, not garbage. Good portions, good food, clean location, ample parking. I love that they have shaded outdoor dining too. Minus one star for the malfunctioning self-order kiosks. The line at the register was long so my group used the kiosk to speed things up but there was an error with the card reader. It's not a huge issue but still inconvenience that resulted in a few people receiving their food a lot earlier than others. I hope this gets fixed. read more

Stopped in Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. This was my first time at this particular Panera location. Nothing particular stood out it's your typical Panera. I ordered at the counter for three of us while we were waiting on 1 other person to join. We ordered two of the pick twos and an onion soup bread bowl and drinks. It really wasn't that busy and there were plenty of empty tables but it seemed to take quite a while for our order to arrive. When the other person arrived she placed her order at the self serve kiosk. Her order was delivered to our table and when she was almost done she realized she never got the drink she ordered. Not really a big deal she went back up and they gave her a cup for the iced tea. I got my my usual a pick two with half chicken salad sandwich and the broccoli cheddar soup. Surprised the have such a low rating here. I frequent to Panera many times. Amd this is one of the cleaner and more relaxed Panera's. Always the valued pick 2 Today tried the lowest calorie soup on menu. The 10 veggie soup. Very tasty. Great vegetable flavor. Will get this for a while verses my broc and cheddar usual. My turkey and bacon was good. Always fresh and just enough with the soup. The place can be cleaner. They do have people cleaning tables. But there are times I come and tables are not wiped. However I never had an issue when asked to have a table wiped. Good internet signal and decent music in there air makes for a relaxing atmosphere to eat in. read more

Cashiers are very friendly and the food is good. My only complaint is that the store is quite dirty. The tables, carpet, tile, glass doors, soda machine and even outdoor patio were all very dirty. I'm sure they get busy but you can't allow your restaurant to become this filthy. I hate to even write this but I'm hoping management sees it and truly addresses the situation. They thought it would be OK to give me a refund instead of toasting and buttering a bagel which would've been so much faster. if you're looking to be yelled at and not really looking for breakfast, this is the place to go to. The service here is really slow. I understand that there is a worker shortage this summer, because companies don't pay living wages, so I've come to expect slower service at fast casual restaurants. However I ordered ahead online, my food was supposed to be ready for pickup at 3:21, I got there and still had to wait another 20 mins. I would have just ordered in the restaurant if I wanted to wait a total of 30 mins. I thought I could swing in and grab my food before my next zoom meeting, but clearly not. Never ate here before, always assumed it was just some bakery. I was pleasantly surprised though, they have various soups, sandwiches, pastas and more. I went here for lunch since the subway in same mall suddenly closed down. I got the meditteranean chicken flatbead and it was quite good. Very flavorful chicken with a fair amount in the sandwich. The vegetables were good and the guacamole was very good. It came fairly quickly and wasn't too pricey -- I got two which were about $4 a piece. I'm impressed since mainstream spots are seen to be not as good more smaller business places. I enjoyed and would happy to try this again next time I have to go out for lunch. It was take out so I didn't really examine the actual resturant but it looks spacious, lots of people sitting and enjoying there meals and despite how busy it was there was room to get around, even this person in a wheelchair. Ordered a bread bowl and got a regular bowl of soup. I came here for a bread bowl On purpose so my order comes up and it's in a cup. The waiter standing next to me apologizes and explains the mistake and tells the guy behind the counter to just give me a bread bowl. We ate a very late lunch here when we were suddenly hungry after a shopping trip to Petco next door. My partner usually likes Panera so we went there. This was a disappointment. He wanted the Asiago cheese sandwich. Instead, he received a Velveeta sandwich on stale white bread. It was something from a really bad school lunch circa 1974. Considering that there supposed to be a variety of much better bread and cheese options, I am not sure why he got this. I had an everything bagel with cream cheese. It was barely toasted and I wasn't given a choice of cream cheese. The location also could have been a bit cleaner. The staff was OK. Is this supposed to be fine dining, no. I won't be going back. I've been on the receiving end of poor customer service in the morning on more than one occasion. Today I waited on line for 10 minutes. The cashier also has to make the drinks, so why is there no other help at the counter during the morning rush? Combine that with the fact that she doesn't make eye contact, doesn't acknowledge people and say "I'll be right with you." No, she ignores you. Finally, someone else (not the cashier) noticed that there was a long line, and called out for someone to come help. The person who came out to help sauntered over to the end of the breakfast counter, stood there, and then called over the person who had just walked in and was at the back of the line! In the meantime, cashier #1 had finished with the customer before me, and when I got to the counter she ignored me while going off to make more drinks. This isn't the first time I've been treated rudely at this establishment. If any of my employees treated people this way, they'd be called on the carpet. The food is ok but not worth the aggravation. I walked out and went to work. I can get much quicker service at Dunkin Donuts or some other quick breakfast place than I can get here. This particular Panera might be fine for the people who want to sit there and kibbitz or use the wifi all day, but when you're on your way to work, you don't want to have to wait around and receive rude treatment. read more

What's up with the lunch line? Are there no other decent places to eat in West Orange? Your standard Panera. Food is just like every other Panera. Service is good - I've never encountered a rude staff there. Really, the only major downside to this Panera is the lunch lines and how zoo-like it can get.
