My daughter and son-in-law treated me there to lunch on a friend's recommendation, knowing that Greek cuisine is one of my very favorites. Stopped by on a whim! Do not regret it! I was driving down to San Diego from the Inland Empire and decided I wanted to eat food somewhere along the way. Pangaea seemed to be along the way and the option of having both Greek and Italian food seemed very appealing. The owners of the restaurant (I assume) were very friendly and willing to explain each dish and offer their recommendations. My understanding is that the husband is Greek and the wife Italian, so they decided to serve both cuisines. They did both very well! We opted for the vegetarian Olympian (which comes with falafel) and the Arrabbiata pasta. We ordered the Arrabbiata pasta and it came out essentially at the optimal level of spicy. Distinctly spicy, but not enough to overpower the taste of the pasta. I was not really expecting spicy food at an Italian/Greek place, but it was a pleasant surprise. The falafel was crunchy and flavorful, not excessively fried, and all of the parts of the Greek combo were fresh and enjoyable. The diversity of the things they offered in the combo were far beyond what I was used to - they had grape leaf roll (!!!), souvlaki, falafel, rice, pita, and a Greek salad topped with cheese. They also offered Greek coffee, which I assumed was the same beverage as Turkish coffee except it's called Greek coffee in Greece and Turkish coffee in Turkey. Suspect using the wrong word in the wrong place may trigger Balkan-tier energy. Anyways, the Greek coffee was very flavorful and definitely woke me up for the drive down. They warned me it was "very strong", so this should be a treat for coffee enjoyers! The prices were extremely reasonable, far far far less than I usually see from Greek or Italian places, which is honestly why I don't get Greek or Italian food very often. However, I left Pangaea with a full stomach and a full wallet. Somehow, a singular restaurant has ended up both my favorite Greek restaurant and my favorite Italian restaurant at the same time. I have passed by this place many times hoping to one day try it out. I finally went today with my little sister and it was well worth it! We both really enjoyed our food and the staff was very cordial and kind. My little sister is usually a picky-eater (she has autism and is very sensitive to texture/taste/smell) so she was cautious at first, but she actually truly enjoyed the food!! My wife and I left the kids at home and dined at Pangaea last night and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. Here's why: *Food: Excellent! Also, its priced reasonably with a variety of dishes ranging in prices from inexpensive side dishes and appetizers to pricey lamb shanks. We wanted to eat light so we ordered a variety of the Greek vegetarian dishes and literally everything we consumed was not only delicious, but very "real" and genuine. The hummus is handmade fresh and has texture and character unlike places that just open a container of store bought hummus. The grape leaves, rice, spicy hummus, cheese, salad, olives, and especially the pita bread was all very good. We can't wait to go back to try more and since it's a "dual kitchen," we want to bring family and friends so we can experience the Italian side of the place. *Service: Also very good. We were sat immediately and offered water and help with the menu. The chef's son served us as this is a family affair. He was kind and attentive throughout the meal and didn't try to push us to get wine or anything like that which was great for a change. *Ambiance: Ok, this place is in a little strip mall, so it's not a hipster spot and you're not in Greece, and that's ok, it's focused on food and device and has more of a traditional vibe. The restaurant was dim but in a romantic way for us as a couple. It was busy but not crowded, even on a Saturday night so that's also a plus since Temecula dining can be tough on weekends without a reservation. Overall this place is a solid A, so if you're looking for Mediterranean food which does include Italian as well as more classic Greek fare, you've got to try it out. Pangaea is a solid 4 or 4+ in my experience. My wife went for a group lunch a couple of weeks ago and came home with food a positive vibes to share with me, so yesterday we went for an early dinner so I could see for myself. Service is super. Menu has plenty of choices and I was happily surprised that they offer some Italian dishes but I was there for the Greek food. I had the "Olympian" plate with Gyro, Falafel and Dolmades with flavorful rice, a nice green salad and flatbread. My wife got the Chicken Souvlaki (one of her favorites!) and we both had the Avgolemono soup. Nice lemon flavor, but not too much..just right. I tried the Chicken Souvlaki and it was so flavorful! Seasoned to perfection. My Gyro was equally satisfying and I like how they make their Falafel crispy on the outside. When you walk in the front door you can see a lot of business owners promoting themselves which is refreshing to see because it means that they are trying to promote a tight-knit community where you support one another. The first room that she walk into as you're passing into the dining room is a wine tasting bar. Throughout your dining experience you may see different couples of people coming in to try the wines. I took notice that these customers really enjoyed the conversations they had with the owners and family employees, and so they would sit in the dining area in order food afterwards which is not something you see very often. My husband and I always meet very nice people with interesting stories to tell while we're sitting about 6 ft away at our dining tables. The wine tasting area is doing well although it's Covid. We ordered two Appetizers: - Mushrooms - Margherita bread with Marinara sauce My first time here with my husband Kimberly had recommended we try the mushrooms on the appetizer menu. The mushrooms are so delicious and it keeps them coming back. They are cooked in a light olive oil, rosemary, minced garlic, carmelized onion, chives, possibly parmesan cheese, and lemon juice. And on our second visit here we just had to order it! Mushrooms are tender with a bite, just the way I like it. My husband and I ordered their Margherita bread when we had inquired if they had something similar to Bruschetta. The Margherita bread was reminscent of Bruschetta and Margherita flat bread pizza. On a bed of french bread, warm fresh slice tomato, minced basil, melted Morzarella cheese top there was crumbles of fresh parmesan, with a drizzle of olive oil. On the side it was served with a saucer of Marinara sauce that was made fresh by the chef. This something I definitely would like to order again. Our main dishes we ordered: - Spaghetti and Meatballs - Alfredo Pesto pasta My husband ordered the Spaghetti and Meatballs dish. The meatballs down to the sauce were packed full of amazing flavor. The owner was the only chef working that day. My husband said this is unlike any spaghetti has had before and it's one of the best spaghetti dishes he's had within two years. The meat was very tender, sweetened tomato sauce, rich in color. The Marinara sauce had fresh diced tomatoes, tomatoes sauce, fennel seeds and other ingredients I couldn't put my finger on. The spaghetti sauce is also served with the margherita bread as a dipping sauce. My Alfredo Pesto pasta dish was very refreshing. I can honestly say I haven't had anything like it but I love Alfredo pasta and I love pesto sauce so I thought why not have these two worlds combine. The noodles were soft, al dente. When I expressed my concern for such a strong taste of pesto in the dish Kimberly had asked the chef to add a bit less than regular.She directly explained to me how the Alfredo Pesto Pasta has heavy whipping cream in the creamy cheese sauce that will cancel out any bitter taste from the sweet basil or regular basil. She did notify me that the basil is seasonal ingredients so depending on what time of year it is they will have sweet basil or regular basil. They do not use any cheese powders. Only fresh cheese. The reheated leftovers from Pangea Restaurant still taste delicious! Pangea is a Greek and Italian family owned business. They treat veterans very well.
