Moussaka lamb shank $23. 5 Yelp stars.
    Julia G.

I found out about Kan Zaman from a 1 star review of neighbor down the street, called Baba Ali, across from Lins Grand Buffet. Reviewer crtisized Baba because they had so little meat for so high a price $30 and that "bigger portions for cheaper prices can be found at Kam Zaman." So here I am. I love lamb and the moussaka lamb shank was recommended to me by my server Alejandra. $23 sounded reasonable to me. Besides the entry in the picture she gave me a basket filled with pita bread and brought me garlic butter and chopped Olive tapenade. I spread that inside the pita with the garlic butter and it was so delicious. I am taking the leftover pieces to put in my toaster oven and heat to crispy and spread the garlic spread and olive tapenade at home yum. I do not live in this area I come from San Diego and Scottsdale arizona. But I am selling my short-term vacation rental in Temecula Wine Country and I don't have any food there because it's not my home. So I found this restaurant through the bubba review. I shall eat here as long as I stay in Temecula the service is warm and welcoming and the food is very satisfying. The portion of the lamb shank and rice was generous so that I save half of it in my own takeout box to have for another dinner with a pita bread. Looking forward to the leftovers. some men win I read the one-star review of no remember Alejandra was my wonderful server, checked up me often

    Kleftiko Lamb Shank

For Shelly's birthday, we went to Kan Zaman for dinner with our friends (this was our 2nd visit). Ordered a Estrella Damm Lager with hummus and pita bread. For the entrée, I had the Kleftiko Lamb Shank (lamb shank cooked in potato, garlic, and onion sauce served with basmati rice). Very, very good!!!

A fantastic restaurant that deserves the entire five stars. Best Mediterranean food in the area for sure. I'm not from Murrieta, but from what I've seen, the plaza is easy to park in and there are plenty of spaces. The concern is walk ins are usually not available. From what I've heard from my in laws, they usually wait for hours if they are doing a walk in. So, they've develop the habit of calling in to the restaurant to make a reservation. That way, they've develop can secure a table. The reservations last up until 9 pm since they close at 12 pm. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were seated fairly quickly, with such comfy chairs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server was quick to assist us and she was very sweet. We were given filtered water through a glass bottle. We started our meal with an appetizer: pita bites. It wasn't what we were expecting, but boy, was it tasty! My mother-in-law ordered their beef shawarma, my father-in-law got their lamb shawarma, and my fiancé got Chef's Special Shawarma. Meanwhile, I ordered their lamb shawarma. We instantly regretted ordering an appetizer because their shawarma plates were HUGE. The meat was placed on a huge pita with basmati rice and a side salad. Needless to say, I was stuffed and couldn't make it towards the halfway point. The basmati rice was also fantastic alongside their garlic sauce (which was very strong) but super creamy. The flavor profile of the dish was incredible overall. We left feeling happy, full, and content with it all. The pricing was very reasonable with the portion size and amazing service. I wouldn't mind coming back here to enjoy another great meal! Fantastic job!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place gets super busy for dinner - we came around 5:30 and got ahead of several large parties that almost booked out the whole restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We took that as a good sign, and we weren't wrong! We got a mixed rice dish with chicken gyro and it was super flavorful - creamy, smoky, and balanced well with some fresh vegetables. We also ordered the Mediterranean spaghetti and it was like nothing we've ever had. It's definitely not your traditional Italian pasta - the flavors were distinctly Mediterranean. The staff were super busy with setting up the tables for their reservations, but were still super kind. Why the four stars then? [[HIGHLIGHT]]It was not the cleanest place - tables were sticky, food on chairs (from other people), and stained menus.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Wished it was kept better, otherwise it would have been a 5-star experience.

Amazing!!! This place is a 10/10!!! I can't believe we just discovered this restaurant. From the service, food and ambiance, everything was spectacular. Came in on a Saturday evening around 6:30pm. We did not make reservations but got lucky to get seated right away. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place was packed and now I know why.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Saif was our server and was nice & very helpful. He explained the dishes and answered all of our questions. They serve you fresh pita bread with olive and jalapeño spread. The portions were big and filling. Prices were reasonable and worth it. We will be back.

The hummus was amazing! I would highly recommend using the olives they provide along with it. I'd also recommend getting a side of feta because their feta was soooo good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When I'm back in town I will for sure come back, the atmosphere was relaxed, but we were there for an early dinner.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was great!

$65 for a gyro plate, lamb kabob plate, dry rice and an order of hummus. Had to buy an extra piece of pita and ask for tzatziki sauce.
    Melissa R.

Placed a to go order after hearing so much about the place. Food was super expensive for what we bought. Ordered a lamb kabob medium well thinking obviously there would be some pink and it was so dry. Couldn't even make out the lamb taste and had to dip it in the hummus to be able to eat it. We didn't end up finishing it. Now the green chili hummus was great! They only give you one piece of pita bread for a huge amount of hummus so I had to order another piece and it still was not enough. Gyro meet was really good but did not come with any sauce on it! I had to ask for a few sides of tzatziki sauce. Not sure if eating in is better, but sadly I'm not willing to spend another $65 for a gyro and a few pieces of cut up lamb to figure it out. Have had better at Luna Grill by the mall...

Definitely by far one of our favorite Mediterranean restaurants in Southern California. It is a little out of the way; however, whenever we are driving North from San Diego, we stop by to have lunch and enjoy the delicious food. Our favorite dishes are Sahara Chicken and Chicken Shawarma Plates. Everything on the menu we tried is delicious!!!!

Wow! That is it... in a word. So impressed with this unassuming location that is a hidden gem in Murrieta. Very warmly decorated with nice furnishings as you walk in. We went on a whim, and every table, I mean every table, had a reservation tag on it. They said they could squeeze us in and we were so grateful. The service was delightful, the waitress was so nice and accommodating. The food was without a doubt top notch. Fresh ingredients, beautifully flavored and well presented. Do not miss this place, it is my new Mediterranean go to spot, less than a mile from my house!

Have eaten here twice. The service is amazing and the food is equally delicious! One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The first time we thought we were missing the rush by coming around 5:30 and nope, it was jammin'! For good reason. People know this place has good eats! I appreciate that they take reservations and that saved us the second time. The hummus is some of the best I've ever had. It's really smooth and flavorful. I love that they bring chopped jalapeños and olive tapenade to add to it. So delicious with the warm fresh bread they pop out! I could honestly be happy with just that but their beef and chicken items are also flavorful and yummy. The interior is really cozy with a lot of interesting visual decor items. I really enjoy sitting inside this restaurant. I did see a lot of take out but I would prefer to pay a little more to be here for a couple hours to enjoy the atmosphere. If you like mediterranean food, definitely give this place a try. You won't regret it at all.

    Chicken Shawarma

Delicious food and great service. I ordered the Chicken Shawarma and the Red Hummus, and both were delicious. The red hummus was rich, savory, and fresh, with the spice paste adding a wonderful kick. The Chicken Shawarma platter was equally enjoyable--juicy, fresh, well-seasoned, and full of flavor. The service was good, though a little slow at times. The ambiance was alright but still cozy, making it a pleasant place to dine. Overall, a great spot that I'd happily visit again.

Well can see why it has such high rating. Mom came from out of town , she wanted Mediterranean, searched for it, found this and gave it a shot. It was 3 of us and a baby. Walking inside we definitely weren't expecting it to look nice , more like hole in the wall but you can feel it's a little nicer than casual. Can see why they are big on reservations. Either way the food we got; started off with the red hummus. Great if you want your hummus with some kick, could've finished that but didn't want to ruin the rest of our meal. We got two plates one lamb shawarma and chicken kabobs; All shared. Chicken kabobs was the better entree. Of course you get a bunch of rice and a larger than I expected side salad. I also got the tomato soup which we all tried and everyone liked. It was me , my daughter and her grandmas. One of which apparently never had Mediterranean and absolutely loved the place. Our server was very good and attentive, can tell she was busy because she would talk really fast sometimes. But it's fine, even though the place is small I have a feeling it's probably usually busy at night for dinner. Would go again, all of us who went recommend it. And if you are in the mood , In the area or want to try something new. I highly recommend this places

Been here several times and it's time to leave a review. Simply this is what small business as a restaurant is all about . Consistency, excellence, efficiency and they show that they love what they do where it translates into everything from their service to their food. We arrived on a very busy Sunday and I noticed they consistently went out of their way to accommodate families despite their rather limited dining space. Everything from chicken kebab skewers, mousakka and the star for me was lamb shank with eggplant. A rather unusual combo but the eggplant base did perfectly cut through the gaminess of the tender lamb . Would def recommend , not to forget some of the best lentil soup I've ever had

This is a beautiful mural that is on one of the walls.

I started with the lentil soup, which was rich and comforting, then moved on to an appetizer combo of falafel, kibbeh, and lahme bajin. Everything was delicious. I wasn't a huge fan of the molasses on top of the kibbeh and would've loved a bit more tahini, but even then it was still excellent and hardly worth complaining about. I also ordered the chicken kebab plate, and I have to say, the salad dressing was simple yet easily one of the best I've had in a long time. The rice tasted like true homemade, family-style cooking, which I really appreciated. And the lahme bajin? So good that I ordered six more to go. Absolutely worth a visit.

If you wanted a side order with that they charged an extra $4 which was a surprise because it's hard to see the $4 up charge on the menu. However, the french fries were very good so I'm not really complaining about that. The sandwich was very tangy and the meat was dry. The beef shawarma plate that we got first came out with crispy crunchy beef that you could crunch into crumbles in your fingers. I sent it back and the second was cooked better but the flavor was extremely off-putting. There was an excessive amount of sumac on top of the meat, much more than is needed. Also , the taste of wine (I'm assuming it was in the marinade) was very strong. I thought that the baba ganoush I received as a side was very tasty and smoky. It did have a large amount of olive oil floating on the top which was a tad overkill but, still, it was tasty. The presentation of food was impressive. I must say that the service was very good. There was one server that was serving everyone in the entire restaurant and she was really on the ball. There was only one person cooking in the back so food was coming out a little at a time at our table of eight people. Some of us were almost done eating before the last person even got their meal. There were people at our table that got served first. Then we would see food going out to other tables before the rest of the people got served at our table. To me this was a little disorganized and it would really benefit this restaurant if they were a bit more organized and had an extra employee or two for lunch time. I guess the main issue we had was that the food was not good and it wasn't served to all the people at the table in a timely manner. All the food did come out hot thanks to our stellar server. Regarding returning to this restaurant, I do not think I will be returning. We have other Mediterranean restaurants in the area that have better food. A+ for the service and probably C- for the food.
