Nope nope nope...went here twice, the calamari was absolutely exquisite the first time. We weren't super impressed with the skimpy gyro, the hummus with what seemed to be day-old pita or the lukewarm lentil soup, but that calamari brought us back. Sadly it only brought us back once, as my dining partner found not one, but two hairs in his food and when he took it up to the counter and quietly pointed it out to the woman working, she literally shrugged and said, "They could have come from anywhere" and that was all she would say about that. Not even an apology, she barely looked at the food. Had this for dinner one night. Very customer friendly staff with ample space to bring a herd of people to dine. Really dig the "local place" to hang with with friends or bring peeps from out of town. They expect a tip but provided nothing resembling wait service, like you might receive from a waiter. If you want extra $ for making the food just raise your prices. The fries were a bit bland with inconsistent seasoning. I shared the opa combo with a friend. The breading on the calamari was a bit soggy. The shrimp, though, was crispy and had a good seasoning. We sat outside in the patio area which is surprisingly nice and spacious for the area. Overall, the food was decent, but it wasn't anything I'll be craving and looking forward to. read more

I've ordered carryout from Panini Opa on at least three other occasions. Tonight when I opened up my Greek salad with Gyro meat, I found a piece of raw meat. Meat of a different variety than lamb. I was hungry and convinced myself it was fish and I eat sushi, so, I tossed the random meat and dug in. Next I moved a piece of meat to find....a plastic knob! Seriously, like a black, three pronged knob off what I assume was a piece to equipment in the kitchen. I called the restaurant and talked to a manager who was very reluctant to comp the salad. Of course I ordered three other dishes for my family, none of which we felt good about eating. The manager asked me to bring the salad back which I said no to because it's 20 mins away. I love Greek food and had been wanting to try this place for some time. I only realized after I ate here finally, that I've actually already visited their sister store, Koble' in Westerville. I ate a lamb gyro and fries. I tend to eat this same combo at every Greek restaurant, at least for the first visit. I judge a Greek restaurant based on the tzatziki sauce: the flavor of it and whether they put enough on the gyro. Panini Opa scored perfectly on both counts. The fries were also tasty. The amount of food was perfect for the lunch mealtime. The dining room is small, and it got crowded near the counter with people waiting to pick up their food. They had ample space outside on the patio in addition to the small dining room. The ordering line moved quickly, which added to the backup of people waiting for food. This was right in the middle of the lunch rush, though, so it wasn't unexpected. I would recommend this as one of my top Greek places. I'm not in that area very often but will definitely try to go back! read more

We arrived at 12:15, opened the door, and there was a line of people waiting to put their order in. The dining room is separated from the order line by a counter height wall. The drink station was at the end of the counter where you pick up food, because of the wall it makes it very difficult to get a drink as there are people trying to get past to have a seat as well as people trying to get back to the counter to pick up their food. The line moved very quickly, and we were greeted by a smiling cheerful cashier who asked what we would like to order. Order: Gyro $6 Gyro platter (includes a drink and either fries or lemon potatoes) $9. We chose the French fries. We placed our order and headed to a table to wait for our name to be called. My name was called within 5 min, so I squeezed my way up to the counter to pick up our food and brought it back to the table. The food looked and smelled delicious. The pita looked and tasted homemade. The ingredients were fresh and crisp. The meat was moist and delicious, and the part that makes or breaks a gyro is the tzatziki sauce. The sauce on this gyro was great and they were not skimpy, the sandwich was perfect. The French fries were hot and crispy, there was some sort of seasoned salt on them which was a nice touch. Our first visit to PO can be summed up with one word: unsatisfying. My husband and I could not stop thinking we had wasted $30 on a meal and should have gone elsewhere. Actually we tried to go elsewhere before we arrived. 101 Beer Kitchen had an hour wait, and there was also a wait at Cuco's. We had passed PO on our route, and thought we would go back there, so we handed the pager back and left Cuco's. At PO, you order at the counter, sit, and pick up your order when they call your name. We were greeted and handed menus, then sat at a table to decide. We went back to the counter, ordered and paid. I got a glass of white wine from an individual bottle that was displayed on the case by the register, and the counter lady poured it into a wine glass. I'm unsure why they sell these smaller bottles at all, when they have normal bottles of wine. My husband got an iced tea from a self-serve dispenser. His drink was included with his gyro platter that also came with fries or lemon potatoes. He chose the lemon potatoes, which were the best part of the meal. He gave me a taste, and another taste. Really good. His spicy gyro was just okay, he said, and their idea of spicy is adding hot sauce to it. My Venus Shrimp Pasta sounded really good on the menu and looked pretty good. I just didn't like it. The flavor didn't do it for me, and it ticked me off they didn't take the tails off the shrimp. It made it kind of awkward to eat. I ate part of it, and brought it home. When I tried to eat the leftovers today, it was, again, unsatisfying. There are so many better Greek restaurants in Columbus that I can't see ever returning. In this neighborhood today and in the right traffic pattern to make it in to give PO a try. A neat looking place that was built from the ground up in a small lot on the NW corner of Sawmill & Bethel road that once had a Rally's drive-thru at. Entering PO I first noticed the small sign noting to order and pay at the counter, ok, where's the menu, ah, a stack of table menus at a counter service operation, how inconvenient. Place my order for the jumbo Chicken Shawarma platter with fries and a soft drink 11 bucks and change. Self service drinks, pepsi products but, they do offer some beer and wine choices. PO's airy open dining area with big windows wrapping around 3 sides of this building was nice on this sunny day, the greek decor tasteful without being overdone, a couple of silent flatscreen tv's playing ESPN. I go to find a table and for 2:30 in the afternoon the place is very slow yet four or five of the tables are dirty and a couple are unbussed, the trash filled to the top. I scored the cleanest table I can find and waited about 10 mins for my order to be called to pick up. My platter looked great, food porn worthy even, in a partially foil wrapped pita with a nice mix of fresh dark greens with onion, cubes of tomato a smattering of tzatziki sauce and spice covered chunks of white meat chicken. A good portion of fries completed this platter served on paper "chinet" type paper plates. While this all looked great behind the camera lens of this food pornographer the taste was just not there. The fries, warm, not hot, freezer fries at best not seasoned well or fresh, I ate a few but most were wasted. The Chicken Shawarma again, no flavor for what looked like spiced chicken that was dry and stringy. The smattering of tzatziki sauce had no flavor of garlic or cucumber and barely coated the only real saving point of this meal, the fresh greens and veggies. The pita this was wrapped in was very lightly grilled and really had no defining flavor either. Wow PO, color me underwhelmed here and consider it un-bookmarked while this concept may look new and fresh to me it's mediocre greek food with schizophrenic tendencies towards service. Either put up a menu of some kind inside (like your drive-thru) or start using those table menus to provide table service. Yes "Meh I've experienced better." You don't have to go far to get better, cheaper Greek food. Just drive on down Bethel to LaShish the Greek or head to Henderson Rd for The Gyro Shoppe. I agree with some other reviews about the confusing ordering situation. Walk up to the register, and there is no menu on the wall. Instead there's a stack of menus. This is just asking for a slow hold up in line when other customers can't really think about their order until they are closer to the menus. I ordered the chicken lemon soup and the hummus and pita bread. The food came out on this weird faux leather covered food tray that was too small to accommodate our food. Our plates where hanging all over the edges of the tray. Perhaps they should have gone more for practicality than appearances. Those trays will probably also be a bitch to clean. The Chicken lemon soup while good was nothing like the usual greek chicken lemon soups I've tried in the past. It had more of a creamy consistency. The taste was pleasing enough, but I couldn't get over how I had paid $10 for a small CUP of "meh" soup. My hummus was really tastey. If you like your hummus super garlicy, you'll love their hummus. But again, it was waaay overpriced and the portions were just puny and sad. I just got the feeling that they were trying too hard to be casual and fancy at the same time. Much like the life of Oedipus, my meal here was full of tragedy. When I walked in my first question was whether it was a sit down restaurant or a fast food. I saw nice menus, but there was nobody to greet me and take me to a seat (or at the register to ask me to order). Eventually someone came out and I ordered at the register. Next the food was served on nice plates (well, I was called to the counter to get my food like at Panera), but with plastic utensils. I sat down and started with the saganaki that was prepared in the kitchen where I could not see the fire (it was a very small portion that was overpriced at $6.00 and wasn't as good as other saganaki I've had). My meal continued with a traditional gyro that was massive, but had so much lettuce that I couldn't pick it up the pita until I scraped most of it off. The sauce tasted more like a mayonnaise with some garlic mixed in. I ordered the lemon potato wedges as a side (the waitress had to ask the cook if there were serving them yet). They would have been good if they had been warm. My meal ended when I took my trash over to the cans that said "Gracias" Huh? read more

I really liked Panini Opa! I actually debated awhile to give it 5 stars, but since the gyros wasn't as good as I am used to and the greek garlic sauce turned out to just be mayo, I had to take a star away. Being from Europe and knowing how it is supposed to taste, I figured Ohio is just too far away and I would have to wait until I go back to Europe to eat that again. Turns out Panani Opa has the best Greek Salad I have ever eaten, here or in Europe! The lettuce was so fresh, the dressing clear, simple and tasty, beautifully presented and $5 for a huge bowl! The owner is very nice and takes him time with each customer, he really cares about his business, which is always a plus in my book. The gyros, well the meat just isn't how I like it to be, the pita was very fresh and tasty but I also don't like how all places here overfill the pita with veggies and the meat in just hidden in there. The meat is the star of the gyros and one doesn't need more than a slice of tomato, a bit of onion and tiny bit of lettuce, not handfulls to showcase it! Really, its like eating a salad wrap, I have got to remember to say no lettuce next time, just to see what they do. The fries were excellent, crispy, seasoned well and piping hot. The panini was also awesome, best sandwhich I've had! We had the chicken, swiss and bacon which was very very good. Real chicken pieces, crispy bacon and toasted to perfected. The steak philly with onions and peppers also good. The were out of potatos so to make up for it we got dessert on the house, which in my opinion is the best trade off ever! I'm a sucker for baklava, and theirs is quite good. The chocolate cheesecake also a yummy treat but my personal highlight was the vanilla cresent. I transported me back to Germany where this is a typical Christmas cookie and tasted just like home! Melt in you mouth vanilla cookie, so simple, so good, what a suprise! I ordered takeout from Panini Opa and found my meal absolutely delightful. The spicy gyros are delicious, though I have to point out that I received gyro meat instead of the chicken I ordered. This isn't a big deal for me personally, and I still enjoyed my meal, thought it's something you may want to keep in mind while visiting. I loved the spicy sauce included on my gyro--this is always something I am very particular about, and based on this alone I would happily visit again. :) In addition to the gyro, the fries and the calamari are similarly tasty. Fresh salads! We went for lunch and got two Greek salads - one topped with falafel and one with gyro meat along with a side of tzaziki. The salads were both very large and had feta cheese, romaine lettuce, and kalamata olives. The gyro salad had a good portion of meat on top and the other had 4 good-sized falafel on top. Drive by this place all the time and always wondered about it. It looks good from a distance. Not so much once inside. The place needs a good wipe down for sure. Food is decent (I got the spicy gyro and lemon potatoes). Good flavors. I'm use to getting lemon potato wedges; instead they took a whole potato and sliced it in two. It was more like eating a baked potato than yummy lemon potato wedges. My gyro had enough meat for two which made it hard to eat with your hands and the pita bread wasn't toasted either. Sadly they served the food on a paper plate with plastic utensils. I felt like I was camping or something. I suppose that would have made sense if I got it to-go but we ate in. The place seems to want to be upscale but everything screams low-budget. All-in-all the place isn't terrible but it doesn't make me want to rush back for more. read more

I have been wanting to try Panini Opa since they started working on the remodeling a number of months ago (it used to be a Rally's). They opened a few weeks ago and finally made it there today. Unfortunately, it's a challenging location on the NW corner of Bethel and Sawmill. You can't miss the building outside and the decor inside was nice. I found it interesting that they had Parisian artwork in a Greek/Italian restaurant. I agree with other reviews, it was confusing when entering. The menus were are the cash register and the atmosphere was similar to a sit-down restaurant. But, you order at the register and there is no server (you pick your food up at the counter. We ordered a few things to share, including the spicy feta, greek salad, and falafel pita platter with lemon potatoes. The spicy feta was decent - I probably wouldn't order it again; the greek salad was a greek salad - nothing really special; and the falafel sandwich was huge, piled high with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. The sauce on the sandwich was interesting - I actually liked it. The potatoes were pretty good to my surprise. The restaurant displays a few different beers as well as a selection of wine, but I didn't see any of these beverages on the menu. So, I'm not sure if they're waiting on a liquor license or not. I was pretty excited to try this new place and was pleased, but not enough to brave the challenging location again. read more

Stumbled across this place by accident and are sure glad we did. The place is very clean and the dining room was well attended. We got Gyros and they were huge and very filling. I am new to the area and seen this place. First thing I noticed was that they stayed busy, must be good then, right! I ordered two lamb gyros, and a chicken gyro. Let me say, this place was hands down one of the best gyros I had ever eaten the lamb is cut to the perfect thickness and they really do put a good amount of meat on the gyros. The meat was so tender, enjoyable to the very last bite. My daughter had the Chicken Gyro, and the chicken was seasoned amazingly, and cooked to perfection. This will be a family favorite moving forward. If you're looking for a great gyro, I highly recommend you try these!! I was in town visiting my husband's brothers family so, being Greek, we decided to give this place a go.
