I would recommend they have smaller slices as eating a ton of BBQ and devouring a huge slice of cake is due for a heart attack. Ambiance 5/5 Got a nice table by the window minus the horsefly. Service 3/5 The lady who sat us and took our drink orders is extremely sweet and friendly. Our service was just okay, she didn't really add to our experience as if there was something on her mind.

I'm hoping it was just an off day because this place has earned enough goodwill for me to give it another shot. Don't overlook the butcher shop itself. The meat quality is miles beyond what you'll find in a grocery store. I bought their ground beef for a ragù alla Bolognese, and it was so spectacular that I went back specifically to buy more for homemade burgers. Bottom line: this is one of the hidden gems of the island. This is because grass fed cows are much leaner and don't have their feed come to them. Anyway, I enjoyed my dining experience here and if you're curious, you should definitely come and give it a try! If you're inclined and know how to cook a mean steak, and staying somewhere with a kitchen, grab your supplies here.

This was our 3rd time at this event, but the first since the change in "management?". It was originally run by Kahua Ranch, but the the caterer took it over when Kuhua stopped doing it. Much remains the same and the caterer (Ted) and family are extremely friendly and working hard at making it work. There are a couple things that we felt are lesser than previously. First is prime rib instead of steak. Prime rib was good, but it's just not the same. Would rather pay a little more and go back to steak. Also, Dave is fine as the new story teller, but not the same as John. John was one of the hosts and family member from Kahua and was exceptionally entertaining. That said, we still believe this is by far the BEST dinner/entertainment option on the island and can't recommend it highly enough. It is a unique option only found on the Big island. It is cheaper and a more unique experience than any luau. As previously mentioned, sunset views are better than beachside, other things to do (roping, branding, horseshoes, etc), different menu and a feeling of being hosted by family. if you're looking for a one-of-a-kind experience, this is a must-do on the Big Island. Every aspect of this event is phenomenal. Learning about ranching in Hawaii was so educational and interesting. The buffet was lined with perfectly cooked prime rib, juicy BBQ chicken and all of the fixings (mashed potatoes, baked beans, asparagus, a good salad bar with the most tasty papaya seed dressing). We also indulged in rich brownies and macadamian nut pie. The view was of the most spectacular sunset I have ever seen in Hawaii over the rolling hills and green pastures. It is truly magical. There also is so many activities to partake in. The country music played by a live band made dancing fun for the whole family. We also tried roping, horseshoes and corn hole. Then to wrap up the already perfect night, we toasted s'mores, branded some wood, and sat by the campfire as we gazed at the stars. Well this was truly a fantastic experience. The setting could not be more beautiful. It's a nice drive way up a mountain to a beautiful working cattle ranch. The ranch is is very clean and the dinner setting was stunning. The serve you buffet style, we had prime rib, baked beans, mashed potatoes, salad, and a brownie. The entertainment was great. Western music, story telling and dancing. Dave and Gladis were incredible, they made the whole night with their welcoming attitude and their great live music. This was our second time at the Kahua Ranch, we loved every minute of it. The views from the Ranch are absolutely stunning, it's definitely God's Country! The food was some of the best we had during our week on the big island. When visiting Hawaii last year, we went to a luau and spent twice what we paid for the BBQ and the food was mediocre at best. Again your paying for the ambience their but there the pork was fatty, fish sandwich tasted like canned tuna and the pork sandwich idk it tasted like the smell of throw up. Ceviche was horrible and paid 30 dollars for a tiny tostada with some shrimp and fish that was super super fishy. This was the best place so far besides pono Hawaiian deli (poke spot best poke ever!!) or getting your own fish at the farmers market in Waimea I wanted to add this to highlight this particular restaurant. We ate here 4 times (3 dining and once to go) and all the times it was so good. We got the island waygu burger it was cooked perfect and seasoned well, we ordered the coconut shrimp this was delicious, we ordered fish and chips (lightly breaded not overly oily or fried it was light airy and crispy), we ordered the corn dip and this was surprisingly refreshing with their homemade chips, order the hot chicken sandwich and wow this was lightly panko breaded and it was not overly hot and spicy everything paired well with it, also got the regular waygu burger and it was again cooked perfect and exploded with flavor. I had the butter fish which was tender and it had miso and bok choy with it. Overall the fish was good, not great. The app we had was the Korean fried cauliflower and that was the best thing i ate there. We each had two drinks. My drinks were really good, but my husband said his were ho hum. The resort is beautiful and the view is beautiful. Food overall is good, but not spectacular. We were disappointed that the mana rays did not make an appearance, but we went during a Kona storm when the tours weren't running up north due to the waves so I figured that might have impacted it. Would i go again? To see the manta rays, yes, but probably not for the food. Final note: valet parking was free with the validation done by the server.

If you eat a lot, the kabobs aren't shareable. Pay attention at the desert layout; we decided to go with the unhealthy route which was to top off with some sweets instead of ordering more mains . The frozen milk cake for me was it even though they pushed the pavolova as the one. The smores is pretty average tasting s'mores but definitely a luxury version so I'd never say don't get it, I'd just say it's obtainable elseware if you're trying to decide on a space you might not visit again. The service was also on par with the establishments well earned reputation and they also had eats for our 3 year old (pizza, which somehow he ate the entire serving of and threatened me if I tried some). 5 star experience
