After an event, late night, my friend and I were hungry, so Google showed us Papa Bear's Chicken and off we went. We placed an order for vegetable stir fry, five wings with sauce, and a vegetable pizza. While we were waiting on our food, the lady in front of us got her order of a chicken pizza with crazy sauce and it looked delicious, so we placed an additional order. When the vegetable pizza came out it looked delicious. My friend and I dug in immediately and burned our mouths in the process, but we were so hungry we didn't care. The food was so damned good, well worth burning off the roof of our mouths. Great food! Good service! Small to go spot on 46th st across from gold leaf. They stay open late late on the weekends (after 3am). When we went at 9pm it said open but the door was locked and no one was there. We figured he just went out for a minute, which was the case. Its a one man show. Glad we stuck around for a few minutes. Chicken scratch was completely closed. It was well worth the wait. Took about 15-20 min for our food. The flavor was good, the food was hot. Loved the spicy garlic on the wings. The stir fry has a honey garlic pepper sauce. It's a huge serving. Def have leftovers so worth the $30+. Excellent fried chicken at this SoBro converted bungalow. The wings are perfectly crisp, and the fries are very good. There is plenty of parking in the lot that's on the west side of the restaurant. This is exclusively a takeout spot, and I rate Papa Bears' wings among the best in town. Order ahead or be prepared to wait (less than 15 minutes if not busy). Friendly service. I had been trying to catch this restaurant for months. Their hours were always hit or miss. I guess I got lucky today and they were open. I hear they are consistently open on weekends, but good luck trying to catch them on weekdays. The owner is pretty much a one man shop. He was very friendly. There is a nice private lot on the side of the restaurant for you to park. In addition to their wings, they have king crab legs, lamb chops, burgers, fish, ribs and shrimp. I came for wings and that is what I got. They have a few different sauces that you can get on your wings including, hot honey, spicy garlic, mango habanero, buffalo, Miami style, BBQ, and Kicken Bourbon, which is the sauce I went with. I got the 10 piece with fries. The restaurant does not have a place to really sit down and eat. There is a small table with two chairs in there, along with a couple of other chairs, but I think those are for waiting. They also do not have any drinks. You can however, go next door and get some Londo's Flameade next door or hit the convenience store up across the street if you are thirsty. I waited about 15 minutes for my food. It was a nice day, so I took it to a nearby park to eat. The wings were huge, the size of a baby's fist. The food was delicious. Very flavorful and I like the way the sauce stuck to the meat. It was well worth the wait. The fries were pretty good too. They had my licking my fingers. Anyway, this joint is definitely worth checking out to get your wing fix. We spoke with Papa Bear's on Thursday morning and he pulled through with an order of 400 wings I picked up on Saturday morning. And they were delicious! Could never find the right time to do so, but I'm happy to say I finally stopped! I called ahead because I had always heard that it was cash only and I wanted to make sure before I made the trip but they take card as well. The gentleman is very helpful, making suggestions and answering questions. My decision on food was some bone in wings, flavor choice was garlic parm, and they were delicious! I was truly impressed by the flavor it was the perfect amount of sauce and spice combination. This is the best wing place in Broad Ripple and Meridian Kessler. The menu here is huge with something for everybody. Papa Bears is open until 3 am & the food is always high quality. The wings are skillet-fried on Sundays. If you want a good deal, get the 10 wings and fries special. The lemon pepper wings here are some of the best I've ever had. Buffalo Wings are cool but if you can't take the heat don't order the. The wings served here re-heat well when you don't finish them. If you're going early in the morning, they might not be open. Right off the bat, I knew this place was flames just from the smell of the food from outside. We walked in the door and were greeted by the owner (didn't get his name.) SUPER nice guy who was really enjoyable to talk to. We ordered the 6 piece buffalo wings with fries and the owner made our food, all while keeping friendly conversation with us. Customer service is phenomenal here. We got our food and left, and I can't emphasize how good the smell was. I got home and chowed down. The wings were absolute fire, along with the fries. Papa Bears Chicken has incredible food for a great value! We have had the buffalo whole wings and the lemon pepper drummettes with fries. The buffalo is spicy, but not overpowering. The sauce is just enough for flavor while still getting great taste from the chicken. The lemon pepper wings were INCREDIBLE. The seasoning is just enough pepper and lemon to taste both flavors but not feel like you couldn't taste the chicken. I highly recommend these! The fries were good - not the best, not the worst. We visited Papa Bears with a Groupon but will definitely be back. My husband and I were both able to eat dinner for $23. One thing to note is it is carryout only. Perfect for what it is. I've been there twice so far and admittedly haven't tried the fish, but the burgers and chicken are great. They do the thin diner style burgers, cooked on a flat top. I like a giant half pound monster burger sometimes but overall, this is my favorite kind of burger. They're simlar to Steak n Shake but far better tasting, and you don't feel like crap after one. Definitely hand formed patties from fresh ground chuck. Good tasting veggies, and assembled in such a way that you get everything in every bite. Not rocket surgery but thoughtful sandwich construction is important. Fries are frozen from a bag, but most are anyway, and he cooks em up crispy. He'll also put season salt, vinegar, or ketchup on em if you want. The chicken is on point as well. Tasty, juicy without being too greasey, tender, crispy that stays crispy with just the right amount of breading. Definitely crunchier than "original recipe" but not a giant load of flour like "extra crispy." It's delicious. Nothing here is terribly creative, you've had it all before, but it's all done really well. Quality ingredients that make you feel full and not sick. Average 10 minute ticket times, long enough to let you know it's fresh cooked but not so long it isn't worth it. Friendly service. Oh and you must follow them on instagram. Now this is a man who is proud of his eats. My only complaints are that the waiting area and patio/porch could use a chair or two and an ashtray/trash recipticle. [EDIT: They now have chairs inside and out, little table on the porch, nice.] Also I'd like to see the incorporation of the word "Ooooooweeeee" in the instagram videos, but that's about it.
