My wife and I returned to Red's for breakfast this time...and this experience was better than lunch. It was a busy Sunday morning after church and this place was packed. However, we didn't have to wait for a table. My wife ordered the Red's Gut Buster and I had the Family Favorites of 2 scrambled eggs with crispy bacon, potatoes and wheat toast. My wife and I both liked our meals. The pancakes were huge and we took them home for a snack later on. The place was busy and our server would disappear for periods. Service was spotty at times but there were others we were able to flag down for coffee refills. Went with a group for lunch. The drive was 45-60 minutes. Spoiler alert ... it was well worth it. We had close to 30 people in our group. They had been told in advance and were ready for us. Upon arrival we were seated promptly and our orders were taken. The food was served reasonably fast and hot. Some of the portions were huge. One person had a breakfast with pancakes. The pancakes were as big as the plate. I had country fried steak that came with a pork gravy, green beans, mashed potatoes, and garlic bread. Reds is only 1.5 miles from me. Sometimes I go down and get an order to go while I eat there. It is for my wife. They have great hot beef sandwiches with French fries and graveyard. Red's offers home cooking and healthy portions. Only open for breakfast and lunch. If you go they are usually on a wait and the wait is worth it. I have never had a bad meal there but breakfast is my favorite. Locally owned by the same family that runs the Burger Station in Hernando, which is another place you need to try. OMG I could have ordered more to take home. She had the chicken salad sandwich with grapes, pecans with spring mix lettuce on a croissant toasted. It was delicious. Red's is the best breakfast/lunch restaurant! It's in the middle of nowhere between Inverness and Ocala near the Withlacoochee River. People come from all over to eat at this restaurant and parking especially in snowbird season, spills over onto a dirt lot across from it. I ate there once before Pandemic and when I saw someone else's country fried steak breakfast, I ended up getting that too, as a "to go for later" at that time and Ive wanted to return ever since. I met a friend there Tuesday and both of us ordered the country fried steak. I ordered breakfast with the steak and two eggs, sautéed red potatoes and onions, a great homemade biscuit for $16.95. I brought half of all of it home (minus the eggs ) and had it again the following day at home with eggs I made. My friend got the lunch with mashed potatoes/gravy and veggie medley. She wished she had gotten hers with the potatoes I got (I had given her some of mine to taste). Hers also was $16.95. You could have gotten whatever potatoes you wanted with the lunch. The country fried steak is huge and is served with white sausage gravy on top or if you like, brown gravy. This is not cubed steak: it is pounded out before it is cooked, in their kitchen. Everything on the menu is wonderful. It is not the cheapest, but I noticed almost everyone was carrying out a big styrofoam box of food when they checked out at the register, so its a two meal for one price deal since you can get another meal out of your money spent. This out of the way location is worth stopping at, for sure! We started with a cinnamon roll that was very gooey and served warm - big enough for the 4 of us to get a little pre-breakfast warm-up! I had the biscuits and gravy with poached eggs. They were great and had a bite to them but certainly wouldn't be considered spicy. The poached eggs on top were a bonus I added! My only complaint would be that everyone else ordered a biscuit on the side and theirs were really flaky and fresh while under that gravy I am SURE had to be yesterday's leftover biscuits. At the table we're all good reviews of the omelettes, and an average for the French toast. Bacon was excellent & thick but crispy!! Outside was cute and rustic with a koi pond that I loved!
