And with the view by the patio, how can it not be the most perfect setting to enjoy my birthday dinner. We just stuck with water since it was on the warmer side today. We just went straight in for dinner. As much as the appetizers sounded lovely, I was ready for the main event. So for dinner tonight I ordered the charboiled salmon with seasonal veggies in place of the salad. My salmon was plated beautifully with nice char marks on it. The veggies were a variety of squash and were sautéed nicely. And you can tell visually that they were seasoned nicely with spices and herbs. I dug right into my salmon. My first couple bites were delicious. I did spread some of the sun dried tomato butter on my salmon. The butter was fantastic! It added a nice flavor element to the salmon. After I ate about a a fourth of my salmon, I noticed that it was not cooked all the way through in the middle. With my new kidney, I can't have rare or undercooked fish. My immune system can't handle a parasite if the fish were to potentially contain any. I shouldn't have assumed that it was going to be cooked all the way since our server didn't ask how well I wanted it cooked. I did have to send it back and have another one remade. While my new fish was being prepared, my server gave me a small salad plate to transfer my veggies to. I got to work on them so I wasn't staring at my family eat. The veggies were cooked perfectly. They weren't overly soft or still raw. It had a nice bite to them while still being tender. Unfortunately, they were overly seasoned and was on the saltier side. I was hungry so I polished them off. But I did have to drink a good amount of water to help with the saltiness. Thank goodness the portion was on the daintier side. As hungry as I was, it would have been bad if it was a bigger portion. All that salt would not be good on my new kidney. My second round of salmon came out. Was it as pretty as my first plate, no but it will do. I'm sure they set the flame on high, let it sit on the grill for a while and then flipped it to cook the other side. I have cooked salmon well done plenty of times and have it come out tender. When you cook for a living, having cooking times for your dishes should be down to a science in your kitchen. Unfortunately, the salmon was super dry and flavorless. As hungry as I was, I ate it. The butter did help with the dryness of the salmon. But I shouldn't have to rely on butter to make the dish edible. For my birthday, I got a free dessert. I chose the gluten free carrot cake. My cousin eats a gluten free diet so I thought this cake would be perfect for all of us. I enjoyed the cake very much! The cake was moist. The spices in the cake were fragrant and very noticeable in each bite. I loved the frosting on the cake. Since the cake wasn't overly sweet, the frosting added a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed the cake very much! Our server did a mid job. There were times when she would be gone for long periods of time and we had to wait for her. The patio was perfect with its stunning view. Dinner was ok but dessert was fabulous. Overall it was a decent experience. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying the outdoor patio with my husband for a date night. I just know now to make sure I vocalize everything to my server so I don't end up with dry salmon again. I do want to come back and have a better experience.

The description also applies to the to tight and awkwardly built parking lot. And for Pete's sake, city planning review people, there is a Chik-Fil-A now under construction in this same place that will be using the same access way and parking lot. (And eventually fast casual pizza franchise, Slice House.) You must be kidding. No wonder this was such a controversial project as it was wending it's way through approval processes. But that's not Panera's fault so let's get to what seemed constipated, or at least not smooth moving, at the store. I detoured here on the way home from a morning haircut to pick up a cup of hot chocolate, I had been getting Panera emails in the way of "insider special" and also a pastry, both to go, as I had also received snail mailed discount coupons to my house. I live in this city and they have been trying to make locals aware of the new store. Although the inside was not crowded, after waiting a good while to try to place an order, I left because I had an appointment at home that I didn't want to be late for. The reason I couldn't place an order was that it was unclear to me if I was supposed to use one of 3 kiosks at the front or if I could order at the counter (my preference) and there was no way to ask the single person working the counter "how do I?" Also the sign at front said if you are having a beverage to get your cup first. OK then, where? Also, the item in the case I thought I wanted to order had no label on it so I wasn't sure, if I used the kiosk, what it was I was ordering, and no one to ask about that either. So I decided to do this the old fashioned way and wait to order the counter. But I could not do that because there was only one person working at the counter and she was behind the register trying her best to help the customer who also wanted to order and who was asking questions. This poor (obviously new) employee was out of her depth for what to do. Not her fault, where was the manager to help her? But just as the employee had a "eureka" moment on how to get the order placed, the customer presented her discount coupon that she received via snail mail and the employee once again was thrown for a loop, said that coupon was for orders placed via XYZ method and now she would have to try to find someone who could help her figure out how to apply the discount. That is when I turned around and exited. They need to work on this. The service snafus are all fixable by management. And the space itself is not welcoming, warts and all, most Panera's are that, and it seems to me it would be from difficult to impossible for a person using a wheelchair to find clear path of travel to a table to sit at. Panera, you can do and have done better for mere ADA compliance. This is the closest location to my home but I won't go back. Meridian or Boise are better options.

Next, I tried the Tijuana Tamarind which was more savory and evenly balanced. Next came the "Street Corn Named Desire" street corn appetizer with chips. The corn was heavily seasoned and spicy. I can handle spice and it made me sweat a little...but it was crave-worthy spicy, not "burn your tongue off" spicy. Next came the plethora of burritos and tacos that the family and I ordered. I opted for a single smash burger taco, filled with a crispy-edged thin burger patty nestled with fresh iceberg lettuce, cheese, dill pickles and the "spitfire special sauce" (which closely resembles thousand island dressing) in a beautifully griddled flour tortilla. Every bite was like eating a balanced burger, but just as a taco. I genuinely each bite. Everyone eagerly gobbled up their meals with "yummmmmm" occasionally floating around the table. Next, they brought out the churro lava cake to celebrate my birthday. That cake was so uniquely fun and decadent. They made everything so special for me!
