Headed to Bardenay in Eagle to celebrate my birthday with some family tonight. They arrived first and got us a table out on the patio. It was the most perfect day for outdoor seating. And with the view by the patio, how can it not be the most perfect setting to enjoy my birthday dinner. We just stuck with water since it was on the warmer side today. We just went straight in for dinner. As much as the appetizers sounded lovely, I was ready for the main event. So for dinner tonight I ordered the charboiled salmon with seasonal veggies in place of the salad. My salmon was plated beautifully with nice char marks on it. The veggies were a variety of squash and were sautéed nicely. And you can tell visually that they were seasoned nicely with spices and herbs. I dug right into my salmon. My first couple bites were delicious. I did spread some of the sun dried tomato butter on my salmon. The butter was fantastic! It added a nice flavor element to the salmon. After I ate about a a fourth of my salmon, I noticed that it was not cooked all the way through in the middle. With my new kidney, I can't have rare or undercooked fish. My immune system can't handle a parasite if the fish were to potentially contain any. I shouldn't have assumed that it was going to be cooked all the way since our server didn't ask how well I wanted it cooked. I did have to send it back and have another one remade. While my new fish was being prepared, my server gave me a small salad plate to transfer my veggies to. I got to work on them so I wasn't staring at my family eat. The veggies were cooked perfectly. They weren't overly soft or still raw. It had a nice bite to them while still being tender. Unfortunately, they were overly seasoned and was on the saltier side. I was hungry so I polished them off. But I did have to drink a good amount of water to help with the saltiness. Thank goodness the portion was on the daintier side. As hungry as I was, it would have been bad if it was a bigger portion. All that salt would not be good on my new kidney. My second round of salmon came out. Was it as pretty as my first plate, no but it will do. I'm sure they set the flame on high, let it sit on the grill for a while and then flipped it to cook the other side. I have cooked salmon well done plenty of times and have it come out tender. When you cook for a living, having cooking times for your dishes should be down to a science in your kitchen. Unfortunately, the salmon was super dry and flavorless. As hungry as I was, I ate it. The butter did help with the dryness of the salmon. But I shouldn't have to rely on butter to make the dish edible. For my birthday, I got a free dessert. I chose the gluten free carrot cake. My cousin eats a gluten free diet so I thought this cake would be perfect for all of us. I enjoyed the cake very much! The cake was moist. The spices in the cake were fragrant and very noticeable in each bite. I loved the frosting on the cake. Since the cake wasn't overly sweet, the frosting added a nice sweetness to it. I enjoyed the cake very much! Our server did a mid job. There were times when she would be gone for long periods of time and we had to wait for her. The patio was perfect with its stunning view. Dinner was ok but dessert was fabulous. Overall it was a decent experience. I do look forward to coming back and enjoying the outdoor patio with my husband for a date night. I just know now to make sure I vocalize everything to my server so I don't end up with dry salmon again. I do want to come back and have a better experience. read more

The ambiance and service is really good and probably most of their food. But I wouldn't order their Fish and Chips ( they have their own name for these) again. At a price tag of $17, the 3 piece fish was pretty thin (to make the illusion that there is an abundance of food on the plate). The coleslaw was also skimpy (with possibly 2 tablespoons worth) and an over abundance of French fries (a very inexpensive way to make the plate abundantly full). For the price, a better arrangement would be 4 pieces of fish, 5 tablespoons of coleslaw and half as many French fries. I will have to say in conclusion, this was the worse Fish (and Chips) meal I've ever had and I've had many (aged 73). read more

Oh my gosh I love this place!! What an incredible location with patio dining backed up to the greenbelt... the restaurant is nice! Pretty large and a hopping upscale sports bar vibe. They have an incredible menu! So much to choose from... our server was awesome and loved her recommendations! 2 of us had the sea bass with gnocchi and wow! Perfectly cooked, seasoned and portioned! My husband loved his pork chop! Also perfectly seasoned and cooked just right!! We sat for quite a while and were pretty much the last of the guests in the patio and the staff was so nice, checking on us and telling us to enjoy our time! Bardenay has quickly become a family favorite for family celebrations and honestly, I'm remiss since I haven't rated this place sooner. The only downfall to Bardenay is the lack of ability to make of a reservation. This was obvious when a rude party of 10 literally stopped their car in front of my daughter and me in the parking lot to jump out in their effort to beat us to the host station. People, chill....Bardenay has never let us down, even if there is a wait....no need to be a selfish jerk. But this isn't the restaurant's fault....but having the option to make reservations for large parties would probably limit these types of aggressive situations. The wait at the host station was inordinately long due to the large party, as they tried to figure out seating. There was only one person at the front trying to handle their obnoxious party, while the other 5 sets of people that came in after patiently waited. It took about 10 minutes to finally be seated, but it was worth the wait. Keana was our server...what a ray of sunshine, joy and rainbows. Adored every moment we had with her...prompt, thoughtful service, drink refills without asking for them and just a wonderfully positive experience overall. They were still serving the brunch/lunch menu at 11:30 am on a Saturday....it was actually hard to choose what to eat; everything sounded delicious. I opted for the Bardenay Club with fries and ranch dressing for dipping, husband had the tuna melt and daughter had the Caesar salad with chicken. Food came out quickly and correct to order. The Caesar salad was heavily dressed, but the dressing was so wonderful the amount of dressing wasn't an issue. Chicken was fork tender, bacon crispy and the tomatoes were diced to perfection. Utterly scrumptious. My club sandwich was layered with the same crispy bacon, tender stacks of turkey, ham and crunchy lettuce. All the ingredients sang in unison. Loved the fries and that herbaceous ranch dressing was the perfect kiss of flavor with the fries. Hubby had never had a tuna melt before and was pleasantly surprised with the grilled cheese like texture of the bread, melty cheese and fresh tuna salad. Service was top notch. Even though I didn't sit outside, the patio was pretty full....but the patio looked beautiful and the view was very serene from my vantage point. Can't wait to try the patio one day, but will always love my visits to Bardenay no matter where I sit (thank goodness they sat us far away from the very loud party of 10 so we could enjoy ourselves). read more

Update: Ms Mary Stepanian, the manager at Bardenay, reached out to me and made things right. They know how to take care of their patrons. Excellent customer service! We brought my brother here while he was visiting from CA. We really like Bardenay. The food is usually good and we like to sit outside by the water. Today we came at about 3 pm. The place was not that busy. Instead of being shown to a table it was seat yourself, something we hadn't experienced before. Still, no problem. We waited a few minutes and our server, Summer, came over. She was nice, brought us waters, and took our order. We waited longer than usual for the food, and someone else brought it out. Summer never brought us silverware or napkins. My brother had the grilled chicken sandwich, my wife had the steak tacos and sweet potato fries, and I had the club sandwich with fries. My brother said he liked his sandwich, but for my wife and I, the food was cold. I suspect for my brother as well, but he didn't want to say anything. If it was just my wife and I, I would have sent our food back. However, I didn't want to make my brother uncomfortable. My wife said something to Summer at the end when my brother had gone to the restroom, and she acted surprised and said she would find out what happened. We know what happened. The food was not brought out when it was first ready. I don't blame the chef, I blame the server. This was disappointing, because we had talked Bardenay up to my brother. read more

Let me just say that this place has been our favorite so far while in Idaho. It sits on the river and the views are gorgeous, as well as the restaurant itself. It was still decorated for Halloween, so festive. The service was amazing- so friendly, great recommendations and super attentive and kind. We had a splurge night tonight and the teens got various mocktails, I ordered the huckleberry lemon drop (which was by far one of the best drinks I have ever had) and a guava drink (that was decent). We ordered the cheese board to start, which in my opinion is such a nice addition to any menu, and everything on it paired well together. For our main course we ordered the French dip, which was honestly our least favorite thing, it was okay, but didn't compare to everything else we tried there. The Alfredo with added chipotle chicken as well as the mushroom tenderloin pasta (which was amazing, and one of the best pastas we have ever had). For dessert, my daughter ordered the chocolate lava cake, which she said was delicious. Overall, we absolutely loved our experience, service and the food and drinks were amazing. Spinach pear salad was like eating newspaper, the fish and chips was an insult to the original, which looked, tasted and was proportioned NOTHING like the classic. 4 pieces of Cod, each the size of a potato chip, overcooked with twice the amount of breading compared to the amount of fish, which in hindsight I'm not even sure was cod. While walking the Greenbelt plenty of times we'd pass by this place and it's always busy. People on the patio talking and eating. They have outdoor fans and heaters. We decided to try it out and got outdoor seating. The waiter was nice and didn't bug us too much which I prefer. I got the tacos and the flavor was good but I just wish it came with a little more food, just one more taco or something because the portion was small. Only ordered water so I don't know about their drinks but it seems like they're known for their alcohol. I wouldn't choose to eat here again based on my experience but I did appreciate the server, and how nice the outdoor seating was. The Women's restroom door is like wide open and pointed towards the bar seating so as you're washing your hands etc, someone's staring at you. My Husband and I had been looking forward to our Sunday after church date all week. We chose the Bardenay on Eagle because of the beautiful patio. We sat down and were "greeted" by our waitress who didn't even introduce herself. We tried to put in our drink order and she asked for our IDs. My ID had expired less than a month ago (and am waiting for an appointment at the DMV) and she told us she couldn't serve me. My husband asked her why that was a problem since I am above the age of 21 and she responded VERY rudely and said "it's expired" with more attitude than I've heard in a long time. We get up and say we will leave and she says very loudly BYE and walks inside. Upset, not about the drinks but about the attitude and service we leave. As we are driving home I called the restaurant asking for the manager and she practically excused everything our waitress did. To say the least we are VERY upset about this situation because we love this restaurant so much. read more

My wife and I have been dining at this establishment since it opened. My wife has lived here for 30 years and I've lived here for 20 years. After our experience tonight, I regret having ever referred our friends to this restaurant. I estimate (combined) my wife and and I have referred 75+ people to this restaurant. Up until tonight, our experience was always five stars. Tonight, we ordered our "go to" meal which is the trout, mashed potatoes, zucchini and caper cream sauce. Tonight on 9-11-25 at 7:00 pm.. not only was our portion 1/2 the size of what it has always been, but our trout was over cooked beyond recognition. Our zucchini was also 1/2 the normal portion and swimming in oil. I'm so deeply disappointed. Such a major bummer for those of us that aren't newbies to Boise. Just because some of the new people to town are used to be ripped off, doesn't mean that you should be stealing from those of us that know better. Shame on you!! read more

I'm a big Bardenay fan! It's great anytime of the day and with any form of company. You can bring family, friends, or coworkers here and everyone will leave happy. The service is great! Friendly and fast. And the menu is fantastic-they have something for everyone. On my most recent visit, my brother and I just stopped in for a quick bite and a drink and we both left feeling very satisfied with the whole experience. My wife ordered the steak dip with fries but didn't get fired and the steak dip was so bad she had three bites and was done with it. Ok maybe this was on me since I ordered the fish and chips (fried cod) but it was sooo underwhelming. When they brought my fish out my heart literally sank breh. Instead of being a nice LIGHT, GOLDEN battered fish, it looked like a flat piece of DARK CROQUETTE. I wish I had a picture but I'm not kidding when I thought it was half of a fish, cut into strips, then hammered until flattened. I bit into it and it was like 90% batter/fried bread crumbs, 5% fish, and 5% oil. The fries to fish ratio was also off...i think they were trying to compensate for something. This place is...okay. It's between 3/4 stars but it's on the lower end of 3. Open till 10 most nights. Service has always been good here. Quite a bit of space available, during the spring/summer outdoor seating is available. Menu is hit or miss. Really surprising to see some Asian influenced dishes here like the pho. Honestly, I've never tried it here. One item that I really do enjoy is the Kimchi Rueben. Food options aren't great in the area which is pretty weird for a growing area near Eagle. read more

Brussel sprouts appetizer is good and had lots of of bacon bits. But is soaks in a sauce. Different than most and not bad, just different. Fish tacos were ok. Small chunks of fish instead of larger pieces. Lots of cabbage and lettuce, less fish. Chimichonga was also, just ok. Best part was the sweet potatoe fries. Delish. First of all, 5 stars are a unicorn. That being said. I sat at the bar (alone on business) and the bar staff was spot on with service and friendly chat. I had the country fried steak special. I have never had a 1" thick steak batter fried but it came out pink in the center and tender. I am not a fan of cooked vegetables but the staff accommodated me by offing a green salad instead. I went there for dinner today. I give them 3 stars. 1 for good service, 1 for getting the other 2 orders right, and 1 for having a good selection of beer. I'm holding back 2 stars. -1 because of inconsistency, my food was not consistent with my last visit, and -1 because my burger was way overcooked and dry, not the juicy, medium pink color of my last Bardenay burger, I also had to search for the lettuce. Service was great but the food missed the mark. I had the filet. The provided steak knife provided could not cut the steak rather it tore in large wide muscle strands much a chick pot roast. I suspect this was a chuck baseball steak marketed as a bacon wrap filet as it was listed on the menu. It was over done not the warm pink center requested and tough to chew. My wife's tenderloin pasta was equally as tough and not the consistency of tenderloin. I suspect this too is not tenderloin but a cheaper cut. We do not recommend wasting money on a meal here if you expect quality meal. read more

So we were put on a 1 hour wait for a table for our party of 8. It was raining out so the outdoor seating was not available. That being said there were many tables that were not being seated so I asked specifically why the table for 8 directly behind the host stand was not being seated, they said it was to not let the kitchen get backed up. I have to give Dylan credit amazing server in a lot of fun. We had some strange cheese appetizer that I would've literally thousand pieces of if I could get away with it. My main course was fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. I find myself eating a lot of the bread too. Lol please please please very great option for lunch. Affordable how are you my company? Enjoy the side salad with soup and I really had to tell you, you should order the nitro cold brew with cream if you need to wake yourself up. We made an order! Horrible service! We ordered mango habanero wings and they gave us PLAIN WINGS! they didn't even give me my fries with my burger! Ate there Tuesday for dinner. Had the pho. It was poorly executed. The broth should be a clear bone broth redolent of cinnamon and star anise. The sen lek noodles were properly cooked. Normally the noodles and broth are accompanied by thinly sliced white onions, and garnished with cilantro and scallions. The center piece of pho tai is thinly sliced ribeye... not... whatever that was. It was hacked up bits of some unidentified cut of beef. Lastly, on the side there should be: mint leaves, basil leaves, rau ram (sawtooth herb) leaves, sliced green chilies, and bean sprouts, hoisin sauce, and sriracha to mix for dipping to taste. I get when a chef offers a canonical dish like pho or bouillabaisse to show their skill and fidelity. I don't get why someone would do such a pale imitation. read more

This was my favorite restaurant I went to while visiting the Boise area. Situated on a pond and next to the Boise river, the shaded outdoor patio was the perfect place to enjoy a late lunch and and drink! I wasn't aware until we got there, but it's not just a restaurant, they are also a distillery and even make some of their liquors on site! All locations actually make liquor, each one just specializes in something different! Despite their specializations, they did have all of them available. In fact, the little drink book they give you when you arrive was probably about 15 to 20 pages long! Truly an impressive sight! I opted for the basil instinct, a gin based cocktail that was light and refreshing. Easily could've sipped on these all afternoon long. Aside from the extensive drink menu, they also had a small happy hour menu, mostly consisting of their satays and some smaller sides, and a decent sized food menu. Though not very lunchy, I had been eyeballing the pork chop since checking out the menu a week before. It was great and I would definitely order it again, though would probably save it for dinner next time. My dad ordered the burger with a side salad and then an order of happy hour fires for only $2.50, my California eyes could not believe it! The fries came out a little cooler than the rest of the food, but they were still flavorful and crispy. I didn't taste the burger, but my dad enjoyed it.
