Heard them yelling at each other (about us) in the kitchen while waiting for the remake, despite asking a refund instead. My brother ordered for his dinner, but is allergic to the excessive onions they added, despite telling them ahead. I tagged along for support, as he has some health issues and is not always able to speak up for himself. Not worth the trouble, the visit back, and definitely not worth the price ($25 +fees for just a medium pizza). The remake looked okay, and they added in dessert breadsticks on the house, but still left us with an overall bitter aftertaste.

(It just doesn't taste as good as it did a year ago. Change in the crust or sauce ingredients?) Part of the success that Tomaso's has enjoyed is that it is a big fish in a little pond. Drop the business in Chicago with several competitors... well, I don't think it would fare nearly as well. There are three pie types served: Detroit with a no-lip, caramelized crust. Chicago deep-dish. New York thin. If you decide to eat in the restaurant, don't be prepared for anything fancy (the foam plates are serve-yourself near the drink dispenser). And, you should also be prepared to wait a minimum of 30 minutes to receive your pie. If you get the pies to go, be sure to either ask for the pizza to be cut or to have a pizza cutter at home. You are going to pay quite a bit more than you would for a typical chain pizza, but the truth is that chain pizzas can't come close to competing.

My siblings who have lived there for years still can't figure out how many locations there are among Iowa City, Coralville and North Liberty, or how to control who you order from. We ordered three pizzas but then couldn't tell for sure that we ordered from Iowa City. So we called the Iowa City location to be sure they had our order, and they said yes, ready in 30 minutes. My niece drove there, to be told they knew nothing about it. They finally figured out that it went to a different location, so she drove quite a distance and eventually found it. Additionally, I am a sucker for breadsticks. Wig & Pen East has a lot of options! From the tried the true garlic bread to the cheese filled breadsticks. (Bosco sticks, anyone?) We got the ladder, because-- uh why not? The food came on time. The pricing is pretty standard-- we opted for the large and had plenty of leftovers. Each slice is very, very filling. The pie itself was perfection. The crust is so light and flakey. The four breadsticks that came hit the spot. Overall, the Sunday Scaries were forgotten for a time and I didn't have to cook. It's 2026 and you can't tap to pay with your phone. When I'm paying $93 for three pizzas, you think they'd be able to modernize their system so you can tap to pay with your phone. Over eight years ago, I could tap to pay with my phone in a tiny grocery store in Croatia, but I can't tap to pay at Tomaso's.
