After struggling to figure out what to feed the family on a Saturday afternoon, everyone agreed to Italian and found this to be the closest to me! I had Sal's before but I recalled them being somewhere else , which as previous comments seems Clay became their spot for the last few years. I ended up ordering the grilled chicken Alfredo pasta on their To Go Family Special. It came with a salad and warm bread individually wrapped.. The amount of food was more than enough especially for my growing teens. Everyone enjoyed it, and have to say there was no leftover. The food was good sort of the homey taste if it was cooked at home. Maybe just a tad bland for me but fixed that with some red pepper to my liking. Nothing really screamed to be out of this world, but I have to say the ranch tasted delicious which almost seemed to taste homemade and if it was "kudos" to them! First of all, there is a Latino server who is very combative with customers and uninterested in providing the best service experience in dining and tries to overcharge for what other restaurants provide as a free service. As for the entrée, it was delicious and served in the old world manner as far as plating. It was good but didn't stand out as exceptional. There seemed to be no deviation from the tastes that similar restaurants serve. Overall, it was a good experience once another hostess started taking care of us. Kaylee is the hostess to ask for. We haven't been here in a while so I was anxious to see if it was as good as I remember. First the good. The food was spectacular as always. Yummy. I had the meatball Parmesan sub and my wife had the chicken parm. Both met expectations. The meatballs were very large! I couldn't finish it all. The not so bad. How can you call it bad when the meatballs are so big? Well, it did make the sandwich hard to handle. Also, fries with meatball sub.... that's just wired. And I didn't like the combo so much. Wifey had spaghetti as her side but she didn't eat it (too full). And the not so good. This place here is a fantastic little restaurant. It has almost everything going for it you would want. Food is great and I mean great. Portions are huge and prices are really good. It's very family oriented. I don't believe alcohol is served here but I could be wrong. It's not a fancy place but it is clean and suitable for a casual meal. The staff are warm and friendly and It feels like the kind of place you'd become a regular after two or three visits. I don't know the owner but he did some catering for my family this past mother's day which was amazingly good and he also opened and cooked for us on a day he was supposed to be closed. This was a small group so he must have agreed out of kindness Not profits so we really were grateful for his kindness towards us. If you go try the mozzarella triangles. It's cheese and it's fried.... How can that NOT be awesome??!! They come hot gooey and delicious with a perfect marinara sauce for dipping. I got the shrimp Alfredo and it was just right. We have always been a fan, of Sals. But after today, we won't be going again. My husband has been under going cancer treatments, and the tomato sauce, bothers him. We ordered the veal special. Our family of eight had dinner at Papa Sal's tonight and I cannot day enough good things about our food and service. Our server was kind and attentive. We had calzones, eggplant parm, chicken parm, the 14 oz ribeye, and the crawfish and shrimp pasta. I would say that we cleaned our plates, but we all got to go boxes because the servings were so big! We came came and ordered a bunch of foods to try. We started with the sampler app and it was fried golden and crispy to perfection. We really loved the chicken balls. We moved on to a rib eye, which was deliciously seasoned along with the fries we ordered. We also tried the sausage pasta dish. Our favorite part of it was the sausage, it has a lot of good flavor. My husband got the muffalata sandwich and he really enjoyed it and I myself liked the baked ziti. We finished off with a chocolate lava cake and a Cannoli. First off, this is the first experience I've truly felt compelled to leave a review for. This is a review of my overall first experience of PaPa Sal's, I ordered for pickup on the date of Dec 21st (yesterday). I called the store and was greeted with a RUDE "Hello?!?!", making me think I misdialed. No "This is Papa Sals, may I take your order?" NO politeness at all. I wondered if I even dialed the right number I but I still asked "may I place an order for pick up?", and the person on the phone was awful, sounded like they hated their job and honestly they need to be retrained or have an attitude adjustment of some sorts because the whole process of ordering makes me not want to return. On top of that, I was told I'd have a 30 minute wait (which is fine because food has to cook, I'm not peeved by that) however I ended up waiting OVER an HOUR for my food. Meanwhile plenty of other cars were receiving their food (these all being cars that showed up AFTER I did to pick up my food) the wait staff never assured me the food would be out soon, or asked if I needed anything, nothing. No "hospitality". I thought I had been totally forgotten about, my order too. And I was asked to pay as soon as I arrived so I couldn't even take my business elsewhere without a commotion. The service was so poor, I honestly didn't even want to tip (did so regardless). I'm giving it two stars because the face of an establishment actually matters and so does how you treat your guests, the wait staff needs a reminder. The ONLY thing receiving stars is the food, the service sucked and the extra 45 minutes of waiting with zero communication did any chance of three or four stars in. So bottom line, the food was great, the chef sure did his job but the service makes me really reconsider going back. We already have so few Italian food places in the area so this experience was a massive bummer. We all have our days but you do NOT inflict that onto your guests. read more

Their pizza is so-so. For their geographic location, they're tasty and they have a good selection of toppings. Less cheese and more sauce would really reinforce that third star. That being said, they are the only establishment that will deliver food to my parents' rural McMansion in the middle of nowhere. Note: I am not alone tonight and there are panic buttons, working telephones in the house, and fast police responders in the area :) The people who work here are nice. Service is really slow for take-out when they're packed. Which is most nights since they are the only real food/dinner establishment all the way out in the middle of nowhere. Unless you count the Piggly Wiggly across the road. In which case, if you are in a hurry and live in the middle of nowhere, it may behoove you to go get a frozen Red Baron or whatever you like, take it home, and pop it in the oven. Take away a bunch of stars for not serving wine or beer...oh my god, I've waited 30+ minutes here to pick up a take-out pizza and wanted to poke my eyeballs out and stick pencils in my ears because a beer or a glass of wine would have put a smile on my face and lowered my ever-rising blood pressure as I waited...and waited...and waited. Bottom line: Horrible lighting (I strongly suggest not eating in here if you enjoy NOT eating under fluorescent lights that will age you by 10-20 years and have you leaving seeing spots), sweet servers, slow service, slow takeout, tasty pizzas, out-of-this-world cannolies, and no beer or wine. I really like wine. I like their pizza. I don't like their lighting. I like that they are out in the middle of nowhere just like my parents. read more

I love this place! If you love Italian food, this is the place to go. I almost always get the lasagna and it is incredible. You also get a huge salad and bread with it. By the time I finish my salad, I can barely eat the lasagna so I always get at least 2-3 meals out of it. I have also tried the chicken alfredo and it is to die for and the helpings are HUGE! Worst meal I have ever had. Literally inedible. This was our second visit here hoping it would have improved since we saw them listed as one of the top restaurants in AL for steak. So maybe our mistake was we didn't order steak. BTW - they only have one choice of steak - Ribeye. Anyway, I ordered the shrimp scampi and it was what I can only describe as gross. The scampi was made with linguini pasta and the noodles were mushy and falling apart they were so overcooked. There was no lemon that I could discern and even though it was full of garlic, there was no real garlic flavor like you would expect with fresh garlic. The shrimp were the worst part - they tasted and smelled like ammonia. Not going back. Ever. The one star is for the waitstaff - they are nice and friendly. read more

My husband and I love this place. We order the 10 ounce steak dinner and you receive two sides and a salad with dinner. The steak dinner is less than $15 per plate. Lots of food ....you will need a box to take left overs home. Delicious! We also have had their pizza...very good and inexpensive. My husband had eaten the muscles dish. He loved it! Their service can be a little slow at times but the food is worth the wait. Gordon Ramsey would have a field day here, starting with the decor and furnishings. Shabby, mismatched, dingy and sad are adjectives that come to mind. No greeting from staff or indication that we should seat ourselves so we stood in the dining room for a good minute... Waitstaff are mostly young and poorly trained, one was overly loud in conversations with kitchen staff and was coarse. The food was meh. Marinara too thick and overly garlicky; too liberal with garlic powder and not fresh. Plates left in broiler too long and developed an overly brown plastic-y cheese crust. Husband's mufalletta was best of the entrees. Did not get requested ketchup for fries until meal almost concluded. Servings were large and would be a good value if properly prepared. A fellow guest advised their server that her fork was not clean and was told that they were certain they had already handwashed that same fork five times today! Erm, gross . read more

This was the first time I attempted to try this place. My mother recommended it and needless to say her recommendations have not had a good track record when we try them. Well needless to say I didn't get to try the food bc when I was there, there were 2 waitresses with only one table filled. Another woman was picking an order up and still waiting for them to complete it. The 2 waitresses just starred and never greeted me or nothing. Finally when I was fixing to place my order, I get told their "internet is down" and cannot process debit or credit cards. You couldn't tell me this when I was sitting there waiting while you didn't bother saying squat for about 10 minutes?? For the record, that's usually a direct network service to the authorization center..not actual internet. You can't Google on it. Anyway I said never mind and was walking out and she wanted me to go to an ATM??!! Hell No! I'm not paying a fn atm fee to convenience you.
