I've been twice now and have always been greeted by friendly and fast service. I've had a gyro and the mousaka both which were very good. I've also had the white been soup and tasted a gyros plate that were quite tasty. Maybe not the worlds most amazing but definitely worth having again especially at the very reasonable prices. The most recent time I ordered they were closing early for some maintenance but gave me the heads up and said if I could get down there quickly they could make it happen. I appreciated both the honesty and the fact that they squeezed my order in when they were trying to close. The order still came out with the same quality and care that I would expect. read more

I LOVE Greek food and Papachino's is a great Greek place! The hummus is really amazing. Sometimes hummus can be a bit... boring... but here it is well spiced and delicious. I was from out of town and looking for a place to get actual food. I got the chicken marsala -- it was delicious. Served with a crunchy greek salad and fluffy flatbread that seemed homemade. I would recommend highly. Friendly service. read more

We had never heard of this place before, but purchased a Groupon because it was a good deal. Papachino's is a cozy restaurant with a lot of character. The staff/owners? were extremely courteous. Helped us order because my husband and I are a bit unfamiliar with some of the foods on the menu. I ended up getting the calamari appetizer and Gyro sandwich. Both were excellent. The gyro was a little on the salty side, but I loved it and am already looking forward to having another one! A very nice place that feels comfortable and welcoming. read more

Came here for the 1st time and it was delicious! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich and it was so tasty and juicy! Came with shoestring fries. My son ordered the peppered steak dish and he loved it. I forgot to take pictures before we started eating, and now there's nothing but empty plates lol. Service was great as well, super friendly. This is the king of mom&pop joint's. But only seen pop working. When I was in there the first time he had one of his worker wrap the silverware up as he took my order cook it and served it to me. Real nice guy that can cook his a$$ off. The garlic shrimp pasta is to die for. I'm a cook but I still trying to make the flat bread how I had it at his place... I really like this place! I've been here for lunch only... Not sure if they are open for dinner. The food is always fresh and delicious! It's obvious the owner takes pride in his cooking and his establishment. I'm a huge fan of a beautiful Greece salad and its consistently great! I love their hummus and pita bread and always grab some to go! The waiters are all very sweet and want you happy... I recommend you try this place for lunch. It's nothing fancy, go as you are. There are people in shorts and others dressed in business attire from the courthouse. There are a couple of tables out front if you prefer sitting outside. Give them a try. There's not too many good, different places in Modesto, but this is one of them. The homemade pita bread was the best pita I've had. Falafel was okay, but a little big and made the pita a little hard to eat. Didn't get a chance to try the hummus :( Tasted the spicy lamb pita (can't remember the exact name) as well, and it was delicious and flavorful. I will probably order that the next time I eat there. The inside a a little small. ALSO do NOT park in the back parking lot. We got a ticket when we did, and all the people at the restaurant said was "we don't own it." -_- -$58 read more

Papachino's is great! I always get the Zorba Pita, so I can't say that the whole menu is delicious, but that is one tasty dish. It's like a quesadilla with pita bread, and lamb. The dipping sauce it comes with is yummy too! Plus the salad it comes with is great. The restaurant is always clean and is perfect for a lunch date. Beware of parking! I've always had to park in front on the street when I've come, but it's never been immensely busy when I've been there! You may have to park in the parking garage a block or so away or find other street parking. There isn't a meter where we park, so at least that's nice. Also, check in on Yelp right when you get there! We got a nice discount for checking in off of our bill! read more

I only give it 4 stars because I've only been there twice... once in 2002 and the food was so-so, and then once just a couple of weeks ago and the food was phenomenal. I ordered a burger and was a little confused to see it served on a piece of buttered sourdough roll... but my GOD was it GOOD. If it wasn't the fact that I got full, I would have eaten the whole thing. Never tasted anything so good and full of flavor... so juicy... Papa Chino's has been an old favorite for years. I'm hesitant to give recommendations out to friends because their meals are a little inconsistent - sometimes it's amazing but occasionally the rice is hard, or the salad tastes like it's been sitting in oil. I still love the place though - and PC is sooo superior to fast food Greek like Daphne's. (Don't go there!) The pitas are my favorite - I recommend ordering a couple extra to eat with tzatziki. I recommend the chicken brochette plate or the gyro plate for lunch or dinner. You'll be pleased. And stuffed. One person can eat for about $10, I'm on a student budget, so sometimes I feel like the food is a *little* overpriced, but it satisfies my Greek cravings with authentic, (usually) fresh, and tasty food. Minus one star because it was too greasy! I love grease but my rice was soaked in oil on the bottom of the plate. Everything else was great. Hubby had a gyro and I had a appetizer plate. Thare was tons of food. Service was good too. Good ice tea! not the old lipton... at least it didn't taste like lipton :) Certainly recommended! I got the spinach pesto and hummus with pita! LOVE! The waiter was kind of bland no personality just did his job so I guess the service was alright. My advice for anyone with infants make sure you bring your stroller because they don't have slings for the car seat. Overall, I had a positive experience :) read more

This place is THE place in Modesto (probably all over the valley) to get authentic Mediterrainian food, and at very reasonable prices. I do agree with the other patrons that the inside is a bit tacky - despite the quality of the food, this is not a fine dining establishment, it's more of a relaxed upscale diner, almost. Having said that, I love this place, and seeing that weird guy on the wall holding the scales (see pictures) is almost comforting to me. A huge tip to you all - do NOT go when they have live music. I love that they support local artists, but if you see someone set up with a microphone inside, either sit outside or get your meal to go. You CANNOT hear yourself think in that place when someone is singing! Forget about conversation (if you came with someone else... or if you're talking to yourself). If you like chicken marsala in other settings, I would HIGHLY recommend trying it here, but make sure you're starving because it is pretty heavy. Heavy with deliciousness! Let's start with a positive: the place is quaint and the colors are nice, very rustic, with Tuscan yellow being the main color. Now, since the first time was so mediocre... I decided to attempt it for a second time for lunch (about 12:45PM): 1) Service was rushed, then nonexistent... just like the last time 2) I had the Chicken Marsala this time-- the chicken was on the crispy side and the sauce was way too salty Overall, I was disappointed... I mean considering the rav. reviews I read on YELP. How is it possible to have such solid reviews and the outcome even a second time around be as bad as the first visit? The food is good but the service is so terrible, like really bad. I really like the food at this place, it's tasty and fresh and has really good flavor, but the service is so terrible that it makes me not want to go. The waitress has the most dry personality ever, and seems as though she hates her job. Don't bother asking for something cause she'll roll her eyes or exhale with annoyance. Last week when I went with friends, she was irritated because we asked to be moved to a different table. Then our food came our cold :/ really embarrassed since I had been raving about this place to my friends. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll come back. They over cooked my hubby's Gyros meat and my vegetables on my spicy lamb dish were mostly raw. And the rice was definitely nothing new. The original place we planned to have lunch at was closed, on a Saturday, on valentine's... very odd. But thankfully papachino's was nearby and looked good from yelp. The restaurant is surprisingly larger than what it looks from the outside, but most tables toward the back are quite small. Everything on the menu sounded very appealing so naturally we had questions before deciding on our order. Our server came across as a straightforward and blunt kind of gal, one that's efficient, but also a bit condescending and impatient. Maybe it was dumb to ask if the difference between the pita and the "over rice" options of an item was just that the latter had rice (answer was no, there's also veggies and more meat. Which was good to know but not something we could know for sure without asking). Anyway, after we got over our insecurities of sounding dumb and feeling like we wasted her time (even though we were the only new table, the ones before us had all finished eating), we ordered the mezza sampler and spicy lamb over rice. Turned out both were very similar in cooking style, sort of a stir fry with bell peppers, zucchini, maybe broccoli. The lamb was of course spicy, the the mezza sampler had a little of chicken, gyro meat (reminded me of hamburger patty), another beef, two falafels, and both had four pieces of small pita and super delicious saffron enfused rice. I feel like the mezza sampler is a good concept for appetizer, but if you were actually sharing that with someone you would barely get more than a few slivers because the proportions are dainty as to fit an equal bit of each meat. Luckily my bf really enjoyed his lamb so I mainly had the mezza to myself. Flavor was very strong and tasty, but a little salty. Wish more pita came with the items. read more

We've been a fan of Papachino's since before we moved up to Stockton 8 years, ago. We were very happy to see that it is still in business when we moved back last March. Papachino's is our go-to mediterranean restaurant whenever we get that craving for some gyros or fresh pita bread with fresh tzatziki sauce. The owner and his staff are very friendly. One of his servers (I am guessing is his daughter) even remembers which dish we like to order. Give it a try for yourself whenever you're in the neighborhood! read more

So good. Cozy little place with very friendly service and delicious food. They let us sit at a table for well over an hour without making us feel like we were taking up space or staying too long. First off, I was there on Friday June 8th, which was the night of the classic car parade, and they ONLY HAD 1 server working! And she was great. The most hustle I have ever seen in a restaurant. I hope for her sanity they usually have another person working with her, but if not I hope she cleaned up on tips. As far as the food, it was very good. I love this place: probably the best Mediterranean food in the area. I've been going to this restaurant for at least 10 years. I love their Pasta Bolognese, although I admit to requesting the sauce over rice, instead of noodles, just to change things up. Their soups taste homemade, but I frequently get the side salads, instead, due to my need for more daily roughage. Their staff are friendly, and occasionally - when there's an event at the Gallo Center - the restaurant can be jammed. Staff seems to take things in stride, however, seeing to all your needs. Love this place! Just ate here earlier for lunch. It's a bit far for me but I like to go as often as I can. It's so fresh and well priced. Had the artichoke pasta and took chicken piccata pasta home for dinner. If you're unsure buy the Groupon for them and check them out. Very nice waitress also. read more
