My family and I have been going here for 25+ years. This is a family favorite and always brings the best food. We love the Arrowhead Village location with the outside patio. We look forward to going here every year. They recently changed ownership and it was wonderful to see the menu and quality is just as good as good ever. The servers are always so nice and friendly. They are very personable and great with recommendations if you need help choosing. The flautas are my very favorite food item. I like the half chicken and half beef with a nasty ed margarita. I mean I have to admit, going to a Mexican restaurant in Lake Arrowhead was a stretch but I did not expect such poor quality of food. The rice and beans were alright but you have to try really hard to mess that up. I got the two combination plate with the chile relleno and enchilada. The chile relleno tasted and looked like it was cooked last week. I asked for the killer margarita and got a cup of lime juice that killed my appetite. Whenever we're in the Village during lunch we like to stop here. The food is always quickly prepared, large portions, and really good. Most recently we got a tostada and flautas, and it was all delicious. Plus, the view of the lake is always nice if you find yourself at a window seat. And if you end up near the front by the bar you can watch a sports game on the TV. All in all a 5-star recommendation. read more

The good is the salsa and chip. The chicken is always very odd in dishes. I had taquitos and they were inedible. The service was bad as can be. We went for lunch on a weekend, and we didn't have to wait. We were seated close to the window so we'd get a view of the lake. We got the carnitas plate, and the tilapia plate. We also got a side of Spanish (Mexican?) rice, and cheese dip! Everything was good, and the wait staff were very nice. I asked if they had anything for a birthday celebration, and yes, they came out with something for my mom who was celebrating her 80th birthday that day. It was a nice experience. read more

I've been coming here since the 80's when they were in Blue Jay. It's not traditional authentic Mexican food, but it's really good and the drinks are great. They have a solid team that always treats everyone with respect and are highly professional. You can't visit Lake Arrowhead without stopping by Papagayos. To my Mexican friends, please keep in mind it's in Lake Arrowhead. They are really trying and this is an old school staple of the mountain. It's definitely not what I'm used to from LA and SD. The California Burrito was very dry, big pieces of steak and honestly not that good. But, the chicken Caesar wrap was amazing. My family and I were in lake arrowhead for the day and saw this place. My daughter is not a huge fan of Mexican food but we convinced her! And it was amazing!! We were initially quoted a wait time of 45 minutes but we ended up only waiting about 15. The menu had lots of choices, including cocktails. Our awesome waitress, Jamie, brought our chips and two bowls of salsa and was quick with the refills. Between the four of us we had enchiladas rancheras, carnitas plate, flautas, and chilaquiles. Everything was delicious! Portions were generous and everything came out perfectly. The table across from us had the pork skins which looked so good I had to ask about them! Mexican food was the craving of the day. We found this restaurant in the cute little Village of Lake Arrowhead. It was a busy holiday weekend up here so we expected to wait a little bit to get seated but everyone was so nice. To fend of the hanger, we were supplied with salsa and chips to it delight. But what excited men more was the Mexican pizza I ordered. Taco Bell has nothing on this! It was GINORMOUS. They did not skimp and definitely shareable with couple more people. The chimichanga was fried to perfection with the shredded pork moist. And the carne asada plate was seasoned well enough to bring the platter to life. Cute please with good ambience as long as you can get past the person seating customers. We were the only ones waiting for a table and the hostess said she'll be right with us. We were pleasant and a few minutes later a group of 5 came in. They were clearly locals and we did not appear to be locals. The hostess bypassed us without saying anything and took the party behind us to their table. When we eventually got seated the server was very good and the food was good! Busy and popular on Sunday. Food was good! Diet coke- excellent! Booth with lake view comfy. My only complaint is the entrance. People were complaining that it was too narrow and people were getting too close to each other. Benches outside were hot and in direct sun so people were trying to wait for their table inside-theres just no room to do that and walk in or out. When people enter, no one was at the counter on the left so people milled around trying to get their name on the list. Recommend: 1. Outside waiting area. Seats in the shade. A lot of customers had small children or were too elderly to wait 30 mins in the sun. The benches out there were too hot. 2. If there are 2 hostesses in charge of seating-ensure one stays on the counter getting names, to prevent people from standing blocking the door way in or out. The other hostess can seat people. Also weren't the friendliest. Server was great. Food service was fast. Portions were big! Would go again. read more

Familiar old school Mexican restaurant with solid chips and salsa, big margaritas, extensive beer menu, and combo entrees served on "hot plates" lathered in sauce. Great beans and rice. Kids burritos were very generous. Servers checked on us often. For Lake Arrowhead where few restaurant options exist, this place hit the spot. Would have given 5 stars but docking a star due to the antiquated "first come first serve" table queue which was handwritten on a notepad. The staff managing the line seemed to lack experience with triage and imposed lengthy wait times on hungry patrons despite what seemed to be many open tables, food and drinks flying out of the kitchen/bar, and rapid bussing of tables around us. We had to wait 70+ minutes for a table, and give our credit card/ID for a buzzer, whereas the gastropub around the corner had an iPad system and texted customers when tables were ready. That restaurant almost won, we almost went there because kids were hungry, then our Papagayos buzzer finally went off after a very long wait. read more

I ate here last month for my friends 30th birthday. The birthday boy was craving some good ole Mexican food! We came on a Saturday night around 6:30pm, and waited for about 45 mins. It wasn't so bad because they give you a little beeper when your table is ready, so you can walk around the shopping center while you wait. We were lucky because there was live music going on in the center of all the restaurants and shops, so it was a lot of fun! Not sure how often that happens. By the time we got seated, I was so hungry. I ended up ordering the El Gordo burrito. Our server warned me that it would be REALLY BIG! In my mind, I was like, she doesn't know how much I can eat though. So I ordered it anyway! LOL When it came out, I was SHOCKED! It was as big as my hand! They put so much meat inside! I thought it was good, but I could only eat half. It's something that two people could share...in my opinion. We also got some margarita and a surprise birthday dessert, which was also HUGE! And DELICIOUS! It was ice cream with cinnamon churros. I wish I took a picture. Sooooo good. Next time I come, I think I will get the Taquitos. My boyfriend ordered them, and they were really good! We came here when we were in Arrowhead a few weeks ago. We sat on the patio, and the views were amazing. When we arrived, we were seated fairly quickly. The chips and salsa were brought out right away, and they were delicious. We ordered the tortilla soup, the chicken enchiladas, and the chicken burrito. The soup was cold when it arrived to our table. The rest of meal came out right after. We were a bit unimpressed with the meals since the chicken in the both the enchiladas and burrito were fairly dry. Service was pretty good here. Some of the wait staff were friendlier than others. Our meals were served fairly quickly. Being able to sit on the patio was wonderful. I went to have lunch with my coworkers while we were visiting Lake Arrowhead, it gets pretty busy so there is always a wait. We waited at the bar and had some drinks before we were seated. We had some more drinks and some good food once we got a table. The waitress was so great, such a great sense of humor and friendly. We had a good time spending the afternoon there with such a beautiful location. The only complaint I have is a very rude bartender/server, she overheard our conversation regarding being pro vaccines and she chimed in telling us her friend had a seizure from it, the looks and rudeness she gave my fiancée were so unprofessional. Stopped in for dinner with friends before a summer night concert in the village. Papagayos seemed like a good choice since it's right in front of the concert venue. Service was extremely slow. One of my friend's ordered soup with his meal. The soup was never brought to the table until we reminded the server. It ended up coming at the end of our meal instead of as an appetizer. The chips and salsa were mediocre. The guacamole was average. Two in my group ordered fish tacos and they liked them. I had the tostada which was good. The fourth in our group had a combo plate with an enchilada and a taco and again it was good. The food was good but average all around, nothing special.
