Awesome waitress and service. Fajitas are the thing to order. Not the taquitos.. carne asada looked great

Arrived approx 30 min before they closed. Stood next to sign "Wait to be Seated" and waited a few minutes before being acknowledged. Then waited for the 1st person to find their hostess to check us in. She welcomed us very nicely and quickly found us a table. Ambiance was great since it was nice and toasty for a cold night. Not too many people for being the end of their shift so we had a lot of privacy. Our server was quick to welcome us too and bring us our drinks. The CHIPS and SALSA looks generic but they are very fresh & tasty as well as their salsa which has a great kick. After reading many negative reviews, I simply asked the waitress what are the best items on the menu. She recommended the carne asada plate and the chimichangas. I went with the carne asada plate and my wife wisely chose the STEAK TACOS = HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! Wow!!! The sirloin STEAK TACOS are very tender. My carne asada was cooked well but wasn't as tender as the steak taco meat. It goes very well with their corn tortillas and the salsa served with the chips. Combining it with the guacamole from my carne asada plate made them ultra delicious. The other side items, beans and rice, are plain and not worth eating. But the real test is ... would I go back and get those STEAK TACOS again with a side of guacamole ?! Hell yes!! read more

Don't order the "just cheese nachos." They're just some shredded cheese microwaved on top on chips. Honestly, it's a little funny that a restaurant is passing this off as acceptable. We also witnessed a waitress taking and eating chips from a chip basket while delivering them to another table. It was all around just kind of a weird experience. We came in on a Sunday, it wasn't too busy. It's also winter time, so it's cold outside. For the 4 of us, I paid about $20 a person. We also had water to drink. The fries were delicious, the steak was cooked beautifully, and the wife liked her tamale. All in all, it was a great experience, we'll be back read more

I must digress... our most recent visit was delightful. A group of us ordered the fish tacos (to die for), chimichanga, wet beef burrito and quesadilla. No rice or beans (can't vouch for them yet), but something definitely happening with quality of food, much better. Perhaps a new chef, not sure but believe they're headed in a very good direction! I wanted to give this place 5 stars but unfortunately, Kelly our server was very rude! We had to order at the bar and my son sat on the stool to order his food and she tells him in a very rude tone "you can't sit there! " there was no kindness in her words. I was shocked! I didn't want to argue with her because she was serving our food and I just didn't want her doing anything to it. Other than that all the other staff were wonderful and kind! Seriously disappointed. They sat 4 of us at a table area near the bar that was 1ftx4 ft. Service was ssssllllloooowwwww. Drinks weren't refilled and when we asked we ended up having to go to the bar and ask ourselves. They don't bus's the tables and we had to move our plates off the table ourselves. For mountain eating, I wasn't expecting much. When I've visited other mountain towns, food was never the best. But I was so pleasantly surprised with this restaurants quality, quantity, and affordability! My boyfriend and I each got a combination plate which came with a salad or soup, rice&beans, and was personalized to your preference of main entrees. Everything tasted so good, like a lot of hard work went into making it. Everything tasted homemade. And our server was so sweet and attentive, I believe her name was Kaylee and she was serving several other tables just as well. We will be coming here everytime we visit! read more

Took forever to order. Staff at the bar was friendly however others not as much, there was a couple that cut the line and staff didn't say anything. Service was mediocre at best. The food here is terrible. Definitely not authentic Mexican food and it is overpriced. The rice was so hard, with some dehydrated looking vegetables. Salsa and chips tasted pretty old. We should've read the reviews, but we were on a time crunch and went with whatever was close to us. Our waitress was pretty sweet so the two stars is for her and for the location. AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! The food here isn't edible. As every other review states, the salsa is just chopped up tomatoes- they buy it in bulk from Costco. To call itself 'mexican' food is honestly an insult. It's also SO expensive. We ordered a side of salsa (we needed some type of flavor), and not only did the salsa taste like it had mayo in it, but it was also $5. This wasn't disclosed to us until we got the bill. The workers aren't happy here. The ambiance is generic. Go to the Tap Room, go to the Belgian Waffle place, go to McDonalds, but unless you want to pay an absurd price for really bad food, don't go to Papagayos. read more

WORST food to date that I have eaten . First off the customer service or lack there of is the horrible. The waitress was rude and strange . They were having a private get together at one of the tables. This on a Friday night . My so called waitress was over at the little gathering and I saw her sip Wine ! I'm Like can you take our order already ! Food : total garbage .my husband had the Fish . Total disgusting. I had shrimp fijata. I could NOT eat it . 6 shrimp And a pound of vegetables. Canned cold beans horrible I mean HORRIBLE. She the waitress saw we BOTH didn't finish even half our meal. She didn't ask was everything ok, can I get you something else NOTHING. Handed me the bill . I was on a call and I guess she wanted to hurry up. She reached over me and said can I get that ! RUDE and that is why you only received a 3 dollar tip . It should have been LESS. I was a bit skeptical on this restaurant this morning. Some of the other restaurants were either closed or just super packed with a long wait time. So we just waited for this to open it. We were seated right away. The workers were oh so friendly. Anywho the fish and chips, huevos Ranchero, quesadilla, burritos, and of course the ahi poke Wonton Tacos were all so damn fuxking good. Very surprised! Huge portions had no idea we could've shared food thank goodness we were hungry. The food came out quick it was warm. We sat outside there was a nice view but it was still kind of far away from the Lake so it's not the closest restaurant. We didn't get a refill on the chips and salsa but that's OK specially after we saw how big the food was. I practically got a bowl of salad which would have suffice for everybody in my group so if you come here come hungry! One thing that I like about this place is that they were not stingy with their chicken or their sides and always a a good think in my book. Good service and food that was kind of just ok. Fun location on the lake here and nice views if you sit outside. You can hear the music on nights they play so that's a plus. Good bar scene from what we walked by and saw. But.... we came to eat and that was the downfall. Broken chips can be overlooked, but guacamole that really had no taste... yikes. Beef fajitas just ok. Lots f food, just no real flavor. Mexican pizza was huge and kind of a mess to look at. Not a pretty dish... but ok. Taco combo again ok. Service was on it and very pleasant. My honey and I decided to take a quick trip to Lake Arrowhead for a quick "reset" from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It was cold, pouring down rain, people were scrambling to get into any restaurant to escape the elements. We were one of those people, walking through the warm and inviting front door of Papagayos. We were first greeted by the hostess who kindly walked us to our table next to a large window seating looking at the whole lake. Taking our multiple layers of warm gear off (it was 40 degrees and we are from the desert!) we were welcomed again by our wonderful server. We order queso dip that came out piping hot. I'm doing sober October so I enjoyed an authentic sparkling water and my honey got a tall glass of water. After a short amount of time the entrees arrived with a smile; I got the ahi tacos and honey got carne asada with rice and beans. It was a great end to a dreary cold day. Food was subpar. Besides our very kind and charismatic server and the nice location of this restaurant, I really can't recommend it because of the mediocre quality of the food. I ordered the Gordo burrito, the potato skins and a melon margarita. I assumed the Gordo burrito would just be a bigger-sized burrito...little did I know that it was the size of about three large burritos put together. I've never seen a bigger burrito in my life (and apparently there's an even bigger one somewhere else on the menu too?). Everyone at the table literally gasped in shock when it arrived. I wish the waitress would have warned me when I ordered it. Besides being just unnecessarily enormous, the burrito simply did not taste good. For all of the ingredients listed on the menu, I was only tasting beef and olives. The meal was just so unpleasant, and I can't understand how anyone would enjoy this. As for the melon margarita, it was just kind of blandly fine. The potato skins were the best thing on the table but still not really much to write home about. The chips and salsa were also fine. My friends thought their food was decent, but the restaurant in general seems to value quantity over quality. The place had a nice atmosphere and I really did like our waitress, but I would definitely not return. read more

Awful food. This was the worst Mexican food I ever had. We serisuely feel robbed..wasted 80 dollar on this. The presentation of the food makes it look tasty but once you take the first bite then you are shocked how awful that taste is. The burrito was topped with celery and it was stuffed with frozen mixed veggies, peas. The most shocking thing was when I asked the waitress for the dessert that comes with the kids meals she came a minute later and threw on the table a bag graham crackers. Their menue says the kids meal comes with a dessert, it was so shocking to see their concept of dessert is a bag of graham crackers. The customer service was awful too..this is seriously the worst experience we had with food and customer service. read more

The food is horrible! The chips were stale, the chicken was dry and the salsa was out of a jar. The guacamole was the worst I have ever had. i have no problems writing bad reviews and being honest. The only bad thing I can say is they are supposed to open up at 11am but they won't let us in until 11:01am. If the sign says 11am then open at that time, not a minute later or it's literally a lie. Food is good and costumer service good. Just think you should open when you say and not have us wait in the rain. Get to work on time so you can open ON TIME. Not later or you'll get bad reviews. read more

Do not come here if you expect some authentic Mexican food. The carne asada from my burrito was extremely chewy and i wondered if it was even Carne Asada. I give the burrito a 4/10. It had some avacado sauce that was decent. I'm 95% confident the salsa they provided was from that grocery store brand "Tositos". My girlfriend ordered a different dish that had rice that tasted like it was sitting in the fridge for a couple days and then reheated. The margarita didn't have much flavor and mostly tasted like alcohol (i guess that's a Pro depending on the type of drinker you are). While I absolutely understand the consequences of COVID to the F&B industry, this restaurant is one of the worst so far! We ordered a bunch of food worth $121 for 5 people, and couldn't even finish 1/3 of our meal. We ordered: - Nachosupreme, can't be any worse. - Chimichanga burrito is the same kind of bad. - Carne Asada plate with rice. The meat was super dry, tasted almost bland. - Steak cut fries (supposedly the $4.95 one but the waitress misheard and put in the $26.95, we wanted to try so didn't change). Requested the steak as medium-rare and the steak came out almost well-done, with no flavor at all. - Original fish taco, carnitas (pork) taco and carne asada (beef) taco. To be honest, the tacos would be the most okay food of all the things we ordered, even though they weren't even hot. All the waiters and waitresses were hanging around and talking even though we were done looking at the menu. Not until one of us has to yell out to call them over, none of them would even move. When we walked in, a lady told us to wait at the table and someone would come over shortly, but no one ever came to us. The table next to us came in after, but they got to order first. Like hello? Price was a bummer already, service was not that good either, food was a whole disaster. If it's not for the gorgeous view of the lake, I'm surprised this restaurant is still going. read more

It's a family friendly restaurant, but way too much going on all over the walls! It always make the restaurant feel musty and old! The food was far from authentic Mexican food, we were very disappointed. The salsa tasted like salsa from a jar or can, the carne asada plate was very though, the rice was def far from Mexican rice! It tasted like minute rice you heat up! My daughter refused to eat anything. My husband and I both ordered asada burritos and we were not impressed, I barely even touched mine! The restaurant scene in Lake Arrowhead isn't that great and that means you have to settle for subpar restaurants. Since we were already in the Village, we decided to stop here for dinner. For some reason, everyone else decided to dine here too and we were quoted a 1 hour wait for a party of 2. We didn't want to wait for a table so we decided to just sit at the bar which is first-come-first-serve. I don't know if it was because we were seated at the bar or not but we felt neglected. The service was slow even though there were bartenders directly in front of us. We asked for chips & salsa and we had to ask twice for it to come out. The bartender was apologetic that she forgot our request though. I got an order of the dos pescados (fish tacos) and I thought it was decent. The fish was lightly battered and fried and the fish sauce wasn't too bad. The cool thing is that you can substitute your tortilla to corn if you're not a fan of flour tortillas. The rice and beans were decent. In all, I wouldn't say the dish is anything spectacular. Just average. Papagayos is a mediocre place for Mexican food. It's not super authentic and the service is a bit of a let down. Temper your expectations. read more

This is rating for their grilled al carte fish tacos. Was very pleasantly surprised and was a decent portion size. My friend loved the salsa. They were very attentive and gave us three serving of salsa and enough chips for them. I've had the vegetables burrito dish and fajita, I would not recommend those.
