Must stop when you are in Culver. Pizza first. Then specials and seasonal ingredients.

Cozy place in Culver right on Lake Maxinkuckee. We had a pepperoni calzone, served with a side of marinara, The Hawaiian pizza was ok, but the crust was too thick for our liking. The crab cake sandwich is served great remoulade sauce & I had the caprese chicken grill with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, basil and balsamic reduction. All were tasty & service was good, but thought it was overpriced for what it was.

Food was good, atomphere is pretty awesome, and my only complaint was the prices are quite high.

Amazing pizza - go for the "Papa's Special" or "Vegi" anytime. Ask to sit in the bar to avoid the family scene. A Culver tradition.

Nothing overly extraordinary but for sure a strong local favorite here. I ordered the salmon special, and it was really good. The menu here also had a lot of good options to choose from, so definitely a great place to get a meal while you're in the area. We came in on a Friday night, and I am not sure if it was a particularly busy day, but our service was pretty slow. The woman who I assume is the owner filled in the gaps when our waitress was slow though. Maybe just our waitress. Our food also took awhile to get to us, but when it did finally come out it was pretty good. It's a great spot to come in for dinner if you are visiting the area. The town is small but the restaurants here don't seem to be lacking on the quality of their food! Will definitely come back here.

The dining room was full, so we opted for the patio. They were missing two chairs from the table of 4 and couldn't locate more, so they seated us in the bar. The bar was dark, noisy, and had a dank mildewy smell. We placed our orders, and after about 15 minutes someone turned up the jukebox music, and it got LOUD. We had to shout to converse. Around 7:45pm, our food finally arrived. As to the food: The complimentary bread was GREAT! The minestrone was pretty good. The walleye was prepared elsewhere, in the judgement of the eater of the walleye. The ribs were overly peppered. The fried chicken was fine (the menu warns that fried chicken takes 14 minutes {an oddly specific number} to prepare, not an hour). The mashed potatoes were pasty and bland, served without gravy. Not even salt and butter could make them worth shoveling into my mouth. The rice pilaf was okay, pretty similar to Uncle Ben's instant. The baked potato was too hard to eat. The fries were so-so. The cobb salad wasn't worth ordering again. I wouldn't go back for that food, even on a slow day when we can eat in the dining room or on the patio and the kitchen is faster. And I think we will remember why, for many more years. But hey: if you want to go drink beer and watch minor league baseball and indoor field hockey and go home with a headache, the Lakehouse is your spot!

It's walking distance from the beach and the main strip. We parked our car when we arrived and never touched it all weekend. The hotel also provides bikes to rent but we found that most places are walking distance and the roads/paths are not very bike friendly. Check in was super simple. Our room was very clean and updated. I wish they had smart TVs to connect to Netflix but we didn't spend much time watching TV anyways so it wasn't a big issue. The restaurant did seemed to get a bit noisy at night which drifted up to our room. The breakfast baskets were a BIG hit! The frittatas tasted so good! The fruit cups were also so fresh. I tried the prosciutto croissant on our last day which hit the spot. The quality of food was top notch - just wish we were able to order more! I had an appointment at the spa as well during our stay. The spa staff is super friendly. I used the robe and spa slippers provided in our room and spent some time in the salt water pool and hot tub before my appointment.

The decor is very nice and the hotel has an overall just nice classy aesthetic with a beautiful actual working fireplace in the lobby. A HUGE one, they were nice enough to let us check in early. This is huge if you have children especially ones that need to nap. The hotel was super clean. Our room was spotless. The king suite offered so much space for the 3 of us. The location is pretty central to most things you'd want to visit in the area. The in-room breakfast makes it super easy in the morning to have a stress free bite to eat in the AM. All the food we enjoyed seemed a step above typical "hotel food" Another HUGE plus, it was basically empty the day we visited. We had the entire pool to ourselves. My 3 year old was in heaven. This alone was amazing, lol Ok so now the cons: The hotel is super DARK inside. It's just more geared towards adults. The room was painted black and also super dark. Just took away from the beautiful sunshine that was outside the walls of the hotel, Advertised in the room for smores roasting but was told by the front desk they stopped doing that. Advertised for Ben and Jerries Hotline which is another added cost when you are already paying so much for the hotel. Not much for families to do here. Or if there was activities or things to do, no one really explained them. All in all would stay here again being mindful of the caveats!!!!

The Boathouse Restaurant in Winona Lake has good food and a nice view of...Winona Lake. You can find them about 45 minutes west (driving highway 30) of Fort Wayne near Grace College (see map). The restaurant is set right on the lake. It is also nestled by some cute shops (The Village at Winona) for pre or post dinner browsing. The Boathouse Restaurant's lake views come in a covered patio (see picture). You are right on the lake. All diners can see the water from their table. The patio is enclosed much like a four season room. You can catch the breeze off the water when the windows are open. Or you can shut the windows and pull the shades if the temperature and sun light isn't to your liking. I'm sure this would still be a great view in the cooler fall and spring seasons. The Boathouse is a large restaurant. However, I would encourage reservations via their web site. You can reserve the patio, bar or main dinning areas. The facility is nicely decorated in that boat theme. Lots of attractive hardwoods and lake colors. We found the restaurant to be very comfortable and relaxing. The menu is very large - something for everyone (see menus). Chicken, steak, pasta, salads, wraps, bowls, burgers, seafood - they have it. Prices are reasonable (steak $30+, chicken $23+, burgers $16+). We have been here a couple times. Each time the food was delicious and the service was what you would expect. Here is a run down on the items we ordered: -Table Bread: multigrain bread, served warm and soft, easily pulled apart; nice soft creamy butter accompaniment -Side Salad: simple salad, smaller in size; very fresh with a few side veggies (cucumbers, tomatoes, onion and shredded Parmesan cheese; crunchy croutons; homemade 1000 Island dressing was thick with a smooth taste -Burrito Bowl: my wife loved the fresh lettuce and peppers; chicken was nicely grilled, moist and slightly seasoned; rice was perfectly cooked with a firm consistency -Tenderloin (special menu item): outstanding! Very moist and tender, slightly thicker steak; thin batter with a slight crisp and hint of oil; grilled onions were a nice but unusual add; bun was slightly grilled, buttered and soft -Macaroni salad: mayo base that tended to be a bit heavy; nicely cooked noodles; added small pieces of celery, onion and green pepper; nice adder to the sandwich If you like lake views and relaxing dinning...make the drive to the Boathouse Restaurant. Also make sure you get there before 6p so you can enjoy the shopping village that is near the restaurant. And...take a long walk down the channel to see the big lake.

For dessert, a friend ordered the chocolate mousse while I chose the Yule Log. The presentation was gorgeous and delicate, and of course, they were delicious. Now I just need to come back to try the food. The prices might sting a bit, but I have a feeling my taste buds will convince me it's worth it.

A quick tip: definitely call ahead for a reservation. The dining area is small but cozy, offering a really intimate vibe. The cocktails were fantastic, and the staff couldn't have been friendlier. The food? Outstanding. You can tell the owner knows a thing or two about authentic flavors--probably from time spent traveling and living abroad. I really appreciated how true the dishes stayed to their roots. The semi-open kitchen was also a great touch--it shows they're confident in their craft and proud of what they're serving. I'm not usually big on desserts, but wow. Honestly, they might be more known for their desserts than the entrees, but both were amazing. What really pulls it all together is the service--attentive, thoughtful, and full of personality. That's what makes this place special.
