The organization's mission is to help dogs get the food and medical care they need and to keep them at home with the families that love them and whom they love in return. Plain and simple they don't want these dogs to end up in shelters. Through Fairy Dog Parents, a dog owner who is struggling with hardship can apply via the website for assistance. If they meet the criteria and they live in Massachusetts, assistance then comes from people who go on the website themselves and make a donation. On the website you will find compelling stories of dogs who need assistance. You can choose any dog you would like or make a general donation. You can also donate needed items and a list of these things is found on the website. Each year the number of dogs helped has grown as more and more people hear about the wonderful work this organization has set out to do. FDP is hoping to expand its reach outside of Massachusetts in 2014. This is an organization every state could use. As we head into the holiday season when many more people think about making donations, Fairy Dog Parents should be on the list. Another great idea is to tell your loved ones to make a donation in your name as your holiday gift. It feels much better than just getting more stuff. I am so pleased to read all these negative reviews from people that clearly know nothing about…read morecats. 1. cats should never ever be declawed, it damages their health in many ways, both medically and psychologically. 2. No domestic cat should be an outdoor cat. The average life span of an outdoor cat is 2-5 yrs, an indoor cat 15-17. My cat only goes out "sometimes" is not an indoor cat. would you be ok with you child "only sometimes" plays in traffic, walks around alone with predators all around, picking up diseases on their bare feet and parasites. I doubt it. 2. "my cat is happier outside and it restricts their life to stay inside." you restrict your toddler's life by not letting them eat candy all day and lick the sidewalk, but you do it (hopefully) because children don't always choose the best and safest things and it's our job to protect them right? 3. "my application got denied bc x/y/z." Clearly this place loves and cares about who their animals go to, and take the time to get to know their animals and what situations would be best for them as individuals, and are trying to protect them from the trauma of being returned or worse. 4. "the people were mean" see all of the above, all day long, for years and years, and when all you want to do is put the cats need for a proper home before taking the first (or second or third) person who walks in the door, and then catching an entitled attitude for it? you'd be a bit testy too. Add to that constantly having not enough staff, resources, space and funds and having to split your time between the care of the animals and dealing with all that comes with managing a small nonprofit, give the people a break. And no, i have nothing to do with Standish personally, and have a plenty long history here on yelp to prove it, just reading these comments makes me all the more committed to supporting them in the future!

I took a basic welding class to make a barn star at the Garrison Speed Shop in Mendon,…read moreMassachusetts. I have never welded before or used some of the tools and equipment required. The template pieces were all laid out, but that was it. Co-founder Luke had me read and sign all the releases first, and asked about my experience with welding etc. Being a Veteran myself, Luke as well, and the non-profit supporting Veterans and First Responders, he also made sure to ask me if loud noises or anything would bother me. Every step was explained and demonstrated before I was able to do it, and as nervous as I was at first, it quickly went away knowing he took my safety, the safety of others as well as their shop very seriously. Co-founder Ben also provided some muscle when I was unable to bend the metal myself. In just over 2 hours I had sanded, measured, re-measured, bent , hammered and welded together a really cool one of a kind 5-sided barn star. It was definitely something different to do and it was a really cool and fun experience. 5 stars !
