Came in for mothers day dinner with my family. Made my reservation through OpenTable and I was able to get the timeslot that I wanted. It was nice that downtown wasn't too crowded and Willard Hicks wasn't overly crowded either. Ambience was casual and relaxed. We were seated at a booth and given waters and menus to look over. Ordered a couple of appetizers and then our entrées. APPETIZERS WH CRAB CAKES $20.00 FRESH LUMP CRAB, SWEET PEPPERS, CILANTRO, TARRAGON ON A BED OF BABY ARUGULA, SERVED WITH OUR CHIPOTLE AIOLI. Crab cakes were good and paired well with the salad greens that came with them. Would definitely return just for the crabcakes. COCONUT CRUSTED SHRIMP $20.00 COCONUT CRUSTED SHRIMP, SWEET PEPPERS, SCALLIONS. THAI CURRY BROTH, MANGO, MICRO GREENS, PEANUTS. The coconut shrimp were delicious. The coconut crust was crisp and golden brown, cooked to perfection. The broth with the mango and micro greens and peanuts paired very well with the shrimp. I just wish I had a spoon to scoop more of it up. Definitely coming back for this one too. ENTRÉES BLACKBERRY GLAZED FILET MIGNON $60.00 OUR 8OZ CERTIFIED ANGUS BEEF FILET MIGNON, BLACKBERRY DEMI GLACE, FIRE ROASTED GRAPES, BLUE CHEESE, SERVED OVER A TRUFFLED PARSNIP PURÉE. This filet mignon was cooked to perfection. It cut perfectly and just melted in your mouth with every bite. SURF & TURF $78.00 FILET MIGNON, BUTTER-POACHED LOBSTER TAIL, TRUFFLE MASHED POTATOES, ASPARAGUS, BÉARNAISE SAUCE. The surf and turf entrée was on their Mother's Day special menu. The filet mignon was cooked perfectly, and it just melted in your mouth with every bite. The tripled mashed potatoes were delicious, and the asparagus was cooked to perfection while having a little bit of crunch to it. DESSERT COOKIES AND FROZEN MILK $10.00 FRESHLY BAKED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES, WARM FROM THE OVEN, SERVED WITH A SCOOP OF OUR ICE CREAM. This dessert was a big portion with 2 giant cookies and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Cookies were crunchy and had a warm soft center. They paired well with the cookies and drizzle of chocolate. The food was great, but the service was sub par. We had to get up 3× to request things such as salt and pepper, more sour cream, and onion for our potatoes, and cutlery. They just weren't checking in on us. Granted we were in the corner near the entrance and kind of tucked away which was nice. The place also was not busy as it was 530 on a Sunday with plenty of open tables. But near the end, they seem to be more attentive. There's lots of parking nearby on the street and in a covered parking lot where you could charge up your car if you needed to. And easily assessable if you were in a wheelchair. read more

Came here for our anniversary. We were basically the only ones there, but the food still took a while to come out. It was good, not great. I was expecting it to be similar to Fleming's because I've heard great things about Willard Hicks, but overall, it was just OK. We went here for a late Mothers Day dinner. We had a reservation and we were seated right away. Service was great, everyone was very nice. My reason for 3 stars was sadly the food. We ordered the jalapeño cornbread as an appetizer and it tasted strange like a hint of fried chicken or something, I couldn't make it out. The blackberry glazed filet mignon has always been a favorite of mine in the past but this day it was lacking flavor. I was pretty sad about it. Went here for my daughter's birthday and overall had a good experience. Started with an appetizer we shared of their pesto cheesy bread. It was pre cut in wedges and the balsamic drizzle was a nice touch. I ordered the sweet and sticky chipotle baby back ribs and they came out well cooked and covered in sauce and tasted great. My wife ordered the steak burger and it honestly was a bit overwhelming for her with so much going on and the enormous size. My daughter got the ginger ponzu bone in ribeye and that was the only problem with any of our meals in that she ordered it rare + but it came out more medium to medium well. As such had to send it back and get a new one which required a decent wait. Once she got it to her doneness level though she liked the flavor. We shared their Mac n cheese - felt it was pretty good not great, their truffle fries, which were overly soggy, and their basic house cut fries which I'd highly recommend. Service is okay to good. Friendly but not super attentive. Meals are served on what appears to be cutting boards or giant wood planks vs plates which can make it difficult to maneuver things around. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner here for our anniversary. First of all, the service is top notch as our waitress Elizabeth was super accommodating with all my questions about what dishes could be made gluten-free for my gluten sensitivity. The restaurant always seems bustling, warm and inviting. I recommend getting a reservation ahead of time to secure a table. The food itself was delicious. We had the ahi carpaccio to start along with a couple of their amazing cocktails. For dinner we brought our own wine (they don't charge corkage fee for the first bottle). We both ordered steaks- I ordered the blackberry glazed filet mignon and my husband had the ginger ponzu ribeye. Both came perfectly medium rare. Our waitress checked on our frequently making sure everything we arrived as ordered. The brussel sprouts we ordered as a side were also delicious. For dessert the restaurant brought us a crème brûlée with "Happy Anniversary " written on it, which we found was a very nice touch in an already great meal. This is not the W&H that I remember from a few years ago. The quality of their beef is terrible. I suspect they are now serving "choice" steaks instead of "prime" cuts. My steak was full of gristle. And it wasn't a one time occurrence - my wife & I both ordered the 18 oz ribeye - medium rare. Both steaks were gristly, but mine was terrible - see picture. $65 X 2 for this crap? The temperature was a little undercooked, but that did not affect the poor quality of the cut of beef. The manager comp'd our (2) $14 salads, but that did not make up for inedible steaks. The brussel sprouts were great. But the steaks SUCKED. Our dogs enjoyed the left overs - a fitting end to what could have been a great anniversary celebration. read more

As soon as we walked in, I knew it was the right choice to celebrate a birthday on a Monday afternoon. Everyone here was all smiles. The bartender was outstanding! Give her a raise lol. Came in to catch the Monday night football game and sat at the bar and was able to secure a seat. Fair warning and I'm being critical here, the TVs are a little high when sitting at the bar, but it's the only place they can put them so that's not on them. Perhaps sit at the bigger table in the back so you don't get a kink neck :). Ordered the bone-in ribeye which was fantastic and good perfectly! I did add the peppercorn sauce which was okay, would probably give it a pass as the meat is good on its own with just salt. Went with a group to celebrate galentines day. Keep in mind we went on a Wednesday evening and the place was pretty dead. Our party didn't feel tended to. Wait staff was checking up on everyone around us, but somehow we were overlooked constantly. That was a bit irritating. However, I will say staff was nice when we were checked on. I ordered a steak burger and fries. The burger was delicious. However the fries were cold and undercooked. The large cut fries is a great concept, but they need to be cooked more thoroughly. Went with my Dad. It was my first time here, and I called ahead of time and they said the first bottle is a free cork fee so I was immediately down to try this place. We sat outside, as it was a nice day that day. One guy came a couple times in the beginning and made sure we were ok and our actual waiter seemed to take 45 min or so to get us menus. I wasn't sure if it was because my dad and I were talking so much, but I knew if we didn't get a menu soon he could keep talking forever We ordered a couple cocktails and an app to start and those were great! One spicy margarita type and the sidecar, and crab cakes, all three were fabulous. My dad and I always do this thing for food where we order two entrees and split them. They were able to split the salad with a salmon filet, but unfortunately not the ribeye. The salad was a good portion for the half size. I probably wouldn't get the salmon again though, not much sauce or seasoning and a little too fishy for me personally. The steak was alright, a little pricey for it being sub par. We asked for medium rare and I didn't see any pink. The onion glaze was ok not bad. While eating it my dad and I both agreed we would've rather paid the extra $15 and gotten the steak elsewhere. My daughter and I went to dinner here Friday night. We both ended up sick after. I ended up with the worse end of food poisoning than she did fortunately. We did not share any of the same food and had no alcohol. There is obviously some cross contamination going on in the kitchen. We got the pesto cheese bread, French onion soup, wedge salad & short rib pasta. I had to miss 2 days of work. I've never been this sick before. Relentless heaving and out both ends. My family celebrated my husband's birthday dinner on 9/18. We were all completely satisfied with our meals. We started with the pesto cheese French bread appetizer, crab cakes and sautéed mushrooms. All absolutely yummy. I had the Pappardelle w/braised short rib. It was fantastic. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the short rib was melt in your mouth delicious. Steaks and ribs were some of the other entrees ordered. Everyone was quite satisfied with their meals. The staff was attentive and very accommodating. The restaurant has a great vibe. Stumbled across Willard Hicks and it has an amazing ambiance inside that is very much so on the classy side. They have a large wine and cocktail list. I got the French onion soup and the Full Rack of Baby Back Ribs. The soup was great as I usually don't like French Onion Soup but decided to give it a shot since there's no other soup options. Our Drinks came relatively fast as the bartender happened to be our waiter. The ribs came out shortly after however they only brought me a half rack at first and I had to ask if it was the full rack portion. Willard Hicks is a great fine dining option in downtown Morgan Hill! There's plenty of seating indoor and outdoor and the outdoor seating is nice as there are fire heaters to keep you warm. We went on a Sunday night and it wasn't too busy at all. For drinks, I got the espresso martini and it was pretty good but not the best I've had. As long as they have the ingredients, they can definitely make any drink you'd like which is great! For food, I had the blackberry glazed filet mignon (medium rare) and it was so tender! My family ordered the steak burger and spicy Asian mambo and they all enjoyed it. My boyfriend ordered the baby back ribs (full rack) but they only served him the half rack so we had to tell our server but he quickly fixed the issue. I honestly love their sides and we got the brussels and sizzling shrooms and the French onion soup and it's such a good add ons to our meal! I really want to like Willard Hicks, but we've had two bad experiences recently. We go there for dinner and order NY Steak and it is "exceptionally" tough. So much so that I thought they gave us dull knives. No that wasn't the case, the meat was just very tough. It is hard to believe that this was an actual cut of NY Steak. This was actually the 2nd time this happened for us. Earlier we also ordered a NY and had the same result, although that one was a bit better (not much). We eat NY Steak frequently, mostly from Costco and it is very good, dramatically better than Willard Hicks. We will give Willard Hicks one more shot, but if we get a very bad steak, we'll send it back, and we'll never come back. read more

The problem with this steak house is the quality and service does not match the price point. The restaurant is nice for both in door and outdoor seating. We have come here twice and each time the food good but never worth what they charge. My husband ordered the New York Peppercorn steak with the loaded baked potato. A 1/3 of the steak was fat and the baked potato was more sour cream and cheese than it was potato. Once he got to the meat it was good and once he took off some of the sour cream and cheese then it was editable. I ordered the PAPPARDELLE PASTA, which is basicly beef stroganoff but instead of pieces of beef they stuck a big piece of stew meat in the middle. The pasta was perfect but the way the serve the meat was annoying, if the meat was a little more tender it would make sense to serve it this way. The service is just ok, I've had better service from waiters at chilies honestly. They do not check on you enough, or offer things you may need like sugar with your tea, salt or pepper with your food, speaking of when I asked for pepper it came in a small dish instead of a shaker. We only went back the second time because trail dust was closed so we will not be back. read more

He was more focused on serving a larger table which probably involved getting a larger tip. I've worked as a waitress before and was very disappointed in the service. So I think we're giving up on Willard Hicks. We decided to have our anniversary dinner here tonight and ended up completely regretting that decision. We started with drinks. I asked for a Bramble, (Gin, lemon juice, simple syrup and Creme de Mure). The waiter ended up bringing me what looked like a Gimlet. No Creme de Mure to be seen. I asked what happened and he told me they didn't have Creme de Mure but he ended up bringing some sort of Pomegranate liquer and saying the drink was on the house. I tried a couple of sips but the drink wasn't good and ended up not drinking it. But no problem it was free right? Well not really. The drink was still on the bill at the end and I had t I ordered the NY steak and the wife had the scallops with risotto. The risotto was supposed to have peas and mushrooms. I asked for a taste of a few red wines to go with my steak. To our servers credit hr said "I'll bring you as many tastes as you want." I decided on a glass of Cab. The wait for food was pretty long but there was an engagement dinner going on so maybe they were getting the priority. Our food arrived about 20 minutes after my French Onion soup, which was "meh" by the way. The wife's risotto arrived with peas but no mushrooms. She asked the waiter about it and he brought her a side of mushrooms. She really liked the scallops but the risotto was pretty much flavorless. As for my steak it was OK. I wouldn't call it tough but it wasn't tender. It was also slightly overcooked. We ordered dessert and coffee. I had the cookies and ice cream and asked for an Irish Coffee. The cookies were supposed to be "warm from the oven". They showed up barely lukewarm. Most likely "fresh" from the microwave. Oh well, I guess they didn't specify what type of oven the cookies were warm from. The coffees show up and its just 2 mugs of coffee with cream and sugar. I thought, "Well I guess I can just add cream to the coffee with Whiskey and it will kind of be like an Irish Coffee." Well unfortunately both our coffees were cold so we sent them back. I don't know where WH is getting their bartenders but they have NO idea what they're doing. I've been here multiple times but have yet to get a good cocktail. Overall the evening was a complete cluster fuck. Bad drinks and "meh" food. Our server was nice but he couldn't make up for all the misfires of this evening. read more

We came here for my dad's birthday on a Tuesday night. There were maybe 10 other people dining and some people at the bar. For a relatively slow night, our service was horrible. We ordered drinks, appetizers, soup/salad, and mains. It took 30 minutes to get our drinks. We had to ask for our water to be refilled. We had to ask to have our plates cleared as they piled up between courses. We had to ask for new utensils after ours were taken between courses and not replaced. The waiter was nice but acted like nothing was wrong with the situation. We ordered the cheese and charcuterie board, crab cakes, and coconut shrimp to start. The cheese and charcuterie board was generous for the price. Lemon drop cocktails were made well. The next course we had wedge salads and French onion soup. The salads were a little odd with the bacon and corn and peppers not cut up. The corn was on the cobb. Odd presentation for a wedge salad. The French onion soup was salty and super reduced down and a thick texture. We had the swordfish, scallops and risotto, bone in ribeye, peppercorn New York, the blackberry filet and sides of mushrooms and loaded baked potato. The mains were good, no complaints. They were out of half of the desserts and did not have a candle for my dad's day icecream. Overall this dining experience left much to be desired and not worth the $650 tab. If you come for anything, the appetizers and cocktails were the highlights but leave little expectation for service. read more

As a local I've enjoyed the food at this steakhouse before. This time I enjoyed the food but there were a couple things that bugged me. First the ice water tasted like a plastic bottle or from a tap. Second, we sat outside to enjoy the nice weather. The waiters had music playing and kept turning it up. Listening to gangster rap is not the right atmosphere for a steakhouse. People go there for the food and conversation. I recommend they focus on the food and service, keep the music turned off. read more
