Service at our table was slow. Felt like we waited a good while for some tapa items and especially for our check. DO NOT do a large part here because they can only split the bill exactly down the middle and it's a hassle to figure out the balance and you have to pay two people. A large party also has tip included. The drinks were too strong. When I order a cocktail I'm expecting a concoction of flavors and alcohol not straight alcohol and lack of flavor. Unfortunately, the only food I appreciated here was the shrimp and mango brie. There is a small outdoor patio and depending on the season you could see sunset here but not in the winter. Went here on a Friday night. Sitting on the patio is really nice as you get a view of the water. The three of us got 7 diff tapas - wings (eh), grilled fish (very good), garlic shrimp (great with a kick), Brie (I didn't partake but my friends liked it), grilled cauliflower (okay), kofta (billed as beef but in fact a combination of beef and lamb), and can't remember the last one. Generally, it was quite good and would be up for going back. Server and owner (I think) were great and kept checking on us. Would recommend! read more

Parking: You can use any of the validated paid lots in the area. We hate these lots but that is another topic. Location: Second floor of the Papa Kona (Formerly Bubba Gump) building Ambiance: Very nice, thoughtful. The indoors is indoor/outdoor which will be nice when the AC is running. Today it was also nice because the clouds had come in the afternoon and there was a light breeze. The outdoor chairs are very uncomfortable. This did not inspire us to linger, even though the well-priced drinks and wine were conducive. Service: Attentive and responsive without hovering. I liked that they would look over and se how you were, so that you could flag them down when needed. Too many wait staff travel heads-down but not here. Food: This is a labor of love. Someone is sharing with us some cherished dishes, made from scratch and true to their roots. We had: Prosciutto with fruit (cantalope was hard but the apple was nice, and the guava jam too) Brie with mango chutney (I misread the menu and thought it would be baked). This is three wedges of Brie and a generous topping of chutney. I would have liked a spicier chutney. Armenian koftka with garlic sauce - Very nice, hand-chopped beef/lamb with just the right seasonings and a yummy yogurt sauce Greek calamari with tzatziki - Looked undercooked but it was perfect. Hubby was scooping up the tzatziki and he is Greek Shrimp with chili sauce - So good. Just enough of a kick. 5 shrimp. 5 items: $46. And it was a nice light dinner for the two of us. There are 7 choice packages available and a la carte too. I got personalized service on my wine from what seemed to be the owner and was very happy with my $9 Sauvignon Blanc, and he told me the price before I knew my choice so I suspect most ar $9. I have to be gluten free/ celiac disease, and most of the menu items were naturally gf!!!! Hooray! The food was so good that all 4 of us returned 2 days later for dinner again!! This now my fav Kona restaurant! 3 small plates was plenty for each one of us- the fish and pork were delicious and they have a dedicated fryer so I could have the cauliflower and Brussels sprouts ! Incredible atmosphere inside and out. I am a bit picky about decor, romantic lighting and views. This restaurant has it all! The view of the ocean and a giant rainbow on the day we went. We tried about 7 tapas on the menu all of them distinct in flavor and appeal, Portuguese influenced. I had more than one Mai Tai and while I am not normally a hard alcohol drinker, these drinks were incredible in that they had the right amount of alcohol, and not too sweet...the best I have ever had! We went a second time on our vacation and loved it even more. They had an afterparty for Ironman that had a great vibe. We will be back for more...next time. read more

New place in Kailua-Kona above Papa Kona's. They have a great ocean view lanai. We tried several tapas and they were all pretty good. The staff was really busy as the place was full, but they were nice and definitely felt like they took pride in their work. Seems like a great place to meet friends or take visitors. The food & wine were wonderful. The people very nice & checked on us often. The one mistake we made was ordering 5 items & allowing them to all come at same time. Next time I might order the cheese plate then have the other items delivered. My wife made a reservation for last night a week ago and received a confirmation yesterday. However, when we got there the door was locked without any note as to why. We went to the original Papa Kona on first floor and were told that Tapas was closed for special event. I get it, things happen and were disappointed but understood. But they made no effort to contact us to let us know and like I said it was confirmed. We had to drive into town in the rain and find parking. I know this place is relatively new but this is not acceptable and really begs to question managements's ability to operate a restaurant. First two times was a good experience, although the bartender made a few off putting comments such as calling the servers "the help". Third time going was a disaster, took 19 minutes to be acknowledged. While watching the two servers talk story with tables. Drinks took another 10 minutes after that. Food is decent, appreciate the different options for tapas and their sauces/condiments are great. Overall a cool spot but hope they can improve service and timing in order for them to stay open long enough for them to make money read more

We tried seven different tops and they were all delicious. My favorite was the ceviche and my husband's favorite was the goat cheese croquettes the drinks were also very good as well as who could beat the view.? Service was very good and our manager was very friendly and informative read more
