A Mistake I Will NEVER Make Again. This morning after dropping off my kids at school, I hopped online to see if there was any JellyCat Authorized Retailers in the area as both my girls expressed wanting a certain one for Valentines Day. Luckily, there was one close and it was currently open. I walked in to Paper Annex, there was one gentleman at the counter, I saw where the JellyCats were located, they didn't have any Valentines Day ones out so I asked, (Who I believe is the owner Scott) "Do you have any of the Valentines Day JellyCats available?" He replied "Oh, yes we have them, we have had for some time but, we are not putting them out yet though" I thought to myself (seems odd to not put them out to SELL THEM) but whatever. So I asked. "When are you putting them out" In comes from the back and older blonde lady, who I am assuming is his wife Colleen & she says, "we are not putting them out til the 15th" I Replied, "Oh Weird, I thought it was the 13th as I had seen at some others shops that are not in the area posting about them" She replied, super snotty and said, "well, we are not putting them out til the 15th, people come in and buy them all up and re sell them" (she acted as if she thought I was trying to do that, based on the fact maybe, I'm a husky dude with tattoos and doesn't look like a Jelly Cat collector) "I Replied I thought online that they were out now" She told me "Well, we are putting them out on the 15th" I said ok Left this store and will NEVER return. I am not reseller I am a single, widowed dad of two girls that was trying to get a jump on getting their valentines day gifts early. I hope she's (Colleen) is ok with her wrong and semi discriminatory assumption of me along with her POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! All good Scott & Collen, I tried to support your small business. Cute place for gifts but definitely don't rent a box and have your mail come here! Soooo many issues receiving mail since new owners took over. Multiple conversations to try to get them to take mail delivery seriously and not make soooo many mistakes... but it just goes in 1 ear and out the other. No care or concern, no apologies just excuses followed by more mistakes. Really disappointing to know some people can be so horrible and treat long standing customers so rudely! read more

Paper Annex is an absolute gem. It is so much more than a paper store. They offer FedEx shipments, USPS, DHL, and UPS services, and they are authorized shippers for all of them. They have gifts, stuffed animals, seasonal items, greeting cards, and the highest-quality specialty products you can imagine. It feels like a charming gift shop and a full-service business center all in one. I was there looking for 24-pound legal paper for an important document, and no one else had it. Not FedEx, not Staples, not any of the big-name places. Paper Annex had exactly what I needed. I will never go to FedEx again. They make copies, you can print using their Wi-Fi right from your computer, and they also offer professional notary services, custom packaging, gift wrapping, mailbox rentals, scanning, document shredding, and copy and print services. It truly is a mailbox and shipping center on steroids. For entrepreneurs, this place is a dream. The service is outstanding, the team is professional and warm, and the atmosphere is absolutely precious. Plenty of parking, high-end gifts, and the kind of care that makes you feel like you're in the right place. I absolutely love Paper Annex. This is my new go-to for everything. read more

Wow this place is actually a cute apothecary place with a postal service. We were in the area and arrived early for lunch date and decided to walk around. They have a lot of really unique items for gifts. There were two ladies working. Neither of them were friendly or offered to assist, I guess they guessed we were just browsing! Who knows. What great service! I had two items that needed to be shipped to Michigan, both very fragile. Scott and Coleen were very understanding of my concerns of damage being caused by shipping. I receive both packages and they were packed very precisely, I think they could have fallen from the truck and rolled down the highway and been just fine! The communication was great, I received tracking numbers right away. My review is somewhat secondhand though I am the direct beneficiary. I have just moved to Europe and my entire professional wardrobe was held up with the movers in the United States just two days before I started a new job. My family ran down to the Paper Annex to see if a FedEx shipment would make it to me in time. Paper Annex coordinated with FedEx to check the shipping times and was able to verify that a package delivered to them at 4 pm would make it to me in the morning two days later. My wife ran out and grabbed the essentials and Paper Annex helped her package them up and get it over to FedEx in time. It was a huge rush but the customer service was tremendous (both of my parents and my wife commented how very nice and helpful the owners are, which is particularly awesome as I understand this is a new ownership team). My packages arrived this morning as scheduled and I'm ready for my first day at the new job tomorrow. I am moving to the area next month, and will need a PO Box. My soon-to-be landlady recommended The Paper Annex. I called and Bill answered. He was very friendly and helpful. I asked for prices and told him I won't need my box to start until the first of next month. He said he would reserve my box for me and told me what my new address will be, so that I can start printing it on my business cards and whatnot. He even said we can take care of the paperwork and payment once I arrive - no need to pay in advance. A few days later I emailed Bill to ask if it would be a problem for them to hold mail or packages for me until I arrive later in the month, and he said again, no problem. Although I have not yet visited The Paper Annex in person and cannot vouch for the cleanliness or ease of access, parking, etc to the physical location, I can definitely say that Bill did a fantastic job of making me feel like I am coming home to a place I've never been. read more

I found paper annex online through a store locator to look for a very specific baby security blanket for my son. His is getting worn out and I wanted to find the exact replacement for him. After speaking with Colleen, she went above and beyond with helping me find this item, even if it wasn't at her own store. They carry the company, but the one I was looking for was sold out. It's hard to find customer service like this, and I can only imagine how helpful and genuinely caring they would be for any other matter. Shame on me for not walking out when this guy was lying through his teeth. For what should have cost $6 to mail a book that weighed less than a pound, he charged me $12.00 and $2.69 for an envelope that is $1.69 at the post office. Do yourself a favor and go to a post office, their prices are in no way. the same. read more

I was in town visiting family and needed to ship a package. It was 8:30 and lost post offices weren't open yet so I went here. The service was helpful enough. He didn't tell me how much the postage was or give me any options. I just assumed he would choose the most cost effective shipping method. I was charged $18.19 for the postage and envelope. I thought it seemed high but didn't get an itemized receipt. Well - I ended up writing the wrong address on the envelope so it was returned to me. The postage was only $8.98!! That is quite a mark up. Not recommended. Wait for the post office to open. read more

As a San Juan Capistrano local, I would like to help local businesses like the Paper Annex, but they have definitely lost my business for good. I only put a 1 because I had to, it would have been nothing at all. I wish I read the reviews before I went in or at least asked my mom about this place. She even told me after the Owners are known to be rude. I looked online for a USPS to mail some packages. It was getting close to 4pm and the SJC USPS was closing. The Internet said there was one nearby which turned out to be Paper Annex. The man behind the counter seemed to be okay but the services are behind the times. The similar situation happened to me just as JK G's. I received my receipt it looked pricey. I explained it to a friend and they said it seemed too high as well. The next day I went to the regular Post Office and mailed similar items, the cost was much lower. I went ahead and called Paper Annex to see if they charged for mailing through regular mail. The lady answered and said they do about 10-15%. I said I was unaware since I had never used a service like theirs before to mail regular mail. I only and will now only go to the REAL Post Office, Paper Annex ruined it for me. She was rude and defensive, saying that is how it is. She then turned over the phone to her husband who had helped me the night before. I indicated to him , his wife seemed to not care about my concern as a customer and was slightly rude towards my inquiry on the undisclosed mailing fees. He indicated they had an earlier " incident" ....not sure what that meant , but probably another unhappy patron. I began to talk with him about the fee that I was unaware of as a concerned patron. Since he did not once mention it nor was it written anywhere insight. He said it is a known fee and has been for years. I said it isn't to the consumer and how are we suppose to know about it when you don't tell us or have something in writing. As JK. G did I mentioned why don't you tell people about it or at least have a sign. His response made me realize how dishonest a business man this person is to patrons. He responded "if I told everyone I would be out of business, they would go to the Post Office" He began to say that if all businesses like his told patrons verbally or in writing about their added fee it would be detrimental to their business. I questioned that and said I'm sure there are businesses out there that do tell patrons about their USPS mailing fees and he said he can guarantee me they do not. I then asked him to tell me how much he charged me as a fee since his wife said 10-15% and now he was saying maybe 25%. His response was... I can't tell you , I don't know. Now again that was unbelievable to me, he can't tell me what percentage he is charging me. On my receipt it only shows one charge , so it is not split up. For all I know as a consumer he is charging me what ever he feels like. As you can tell , I am never coming back to this place. I would not recommend it. Another thing about overpricing. They are selling a plastic pumpkin decoration the size of a large bowl of soup for $34.99. I looked at it in pure astonishment. You can probably buy the same thing at Big Lots for a much lower price. This is another reason I would not be recommending this place to anyone. Note to self always YELP a new place before you step foot in it. read more
