First time and the food may be the best breakfast food we've had in Houston. It was all fresh ingredients and all delicious. Café au lait - good but everyone else was getting cappuccino so I'll get that next time. Paper Co breakfast (eggs, bacon or sausage, diced potatoes, tomato, toast) - EXCELLENT! It was the thick bread but so light and airy and crisped on the grill, the. best! Spinach & mushrooms egg benedict - DELICIOUS! Very fresh ingredients. Service was good, prices very reasonable. A must try if you're in the area. The location is hidden so you may be drive towards it thinking "where am I headed" but trust your GPS. The entrance is anassuming on the east side of the building.

Look for the blue door. We'll definitely be back.

I just had an unexpected delightful experience at a beautiful little café near downtown Houston. Nestled away in the building of an old paper company and hidden under the intersection of several major highways, this place should definitely be on your target list. If you have read any of my reviews, you know that I don't simply say things like great, or fun, or check this place out. I typically go into extreme detail, and that only happens when a place truly deserves a review. I eat out more than frequently and most of the time, don't give reviews. This place is a delight. Upon entering the parking lot, guided by my Google maps, I wasn't even sure if I was in the right place. I wanted a simple café where I could sip on coffee while waiting for the offices for the city of Houston to jump through all of the necessary hoops. Assuming and hoping I was in the right place, I cautiously parked my vehicle amid some of the homeless people living under the bridge. Nice vehicles in the parking lot made me believe that things would be fine and safe.

So, I walked up the ramp and opened the big blue door. First impressions are critical. The very first thing that hit me was the gorgeous aroma. A huge pile of massive sacks of coffee were stacked by the front door while the boss,...

Chris, was moving them himself. Anybody can throw out a casual greeting, but we all know the difference when something is heartfelt and sincere. An earnest welcome to his establishment was offered and even inquired about my day, not like a simple "how are you?" greeting that is thrown out in casual conversation. Rather, I got the feeling that they actually cared, a rarity in any establishment, certainly one in downtown Houston. Brief chitchat ensued and I was preparing myself for a fantastic, yet simple and elegant experience. The building looks as you think it might, and industrial makeover to what is now an urban Café. Polished concrete floors and slick looking chairs could mean fast food or simply something that is clean, simple and elegant. Everything looks great, smells great and there really is not a trace of sound from the massive volume of vehicles buzzing by on the highway only feet from the front door. My plan was to only get a simple cup of coffee while I waited for the city to finish their work. Instead, I opted for a latte and the spinach and mushroom eggs Benedict. Something about the menu and the energy inside drew me to something more than just a cup of Joe and a waiting spot. I made a good choice. Smiling faces prepared a beautiful latte, handcrafted with care and packed full of flavor. This is not your typical pseudo Barrista crank them out as fast as you can Starbucks type chain coffee shack. This is the real deal. I spotted a small table with an electrical outlet for charging, and sat down for only a few moments while my breakfast was being prepared. I barely had time to send a text and look at a Facebook post when a beautiful meal was placed in front of me. We have all eaten at those places where the food looks good and tastes like plastic. We have also eaten at the places that have phenomenal flavor but presentation is lacking. This place, however, has it all. Look at the beauty of the presentation, not just of the latte but of the spinach leaves accenting a beautifully prepared breakfast. Flavor stands on its own. I had no salt or pepper shaker on the table, and I can only assume there might've been some in the restaurant, but neither were needed. Sure, if you like to oversalt your food and plan on having some type of cardiac issue later in your life, you may want to oversalt this meal. If you actually enjoy dining, leave it alone and enjoy. About halfway through my meal, manager Chris came by and asked how everything was. He didn't ask if everything was okay, but rather how it was. This to me, is a very important distinction. if one is looking for a binary answer of good or bad, ask a question that warrants that. If you truly want quality feedback, ask better questions, even open-ended questions. I laugh now, because my mouth was full when he asked. All I could utter out was "fantastic." The mix of people in the café varies. There certainly are quite a few bustling college students, laptops open all trying to figure out what is next in their life. There are a handful of city workers and even some general contractors working on projects. I The mix of people,... Works. Everyone does their own thing. This was a first-time visit for me and it certainly will be the last. Congratulations to the entire crew at the Paper Company Café on a job that requires a whole bunch of words, but when your mouth is full can simply be called, fantastic!

I had the huevos rancheros and she had modified gluten free eggs Benedict with no bacon. So so good. Plus it turns out all profits are donated to help the homeless. Win win win. I need to come here more.

Parking is tough on Sundays due to church. I got a nice Matcha latte and unfortunately, it tasted like a cup of milk. I wish they would've put more Matcha. This would be a great spot to study at, I'm not sure if they have Wi-Fi though. The natural lighting in here is amazing as well. Maybe next time I'll try their coffee. They have a lot of pastries, which are nice, but they are a little overpriced in my opinion. The barista were very sweet and nice. I would return if my friends wanted to come back, but I would not go out of my way to go here.

One Star - And that feels generous. If you're looking for a coffee shop that will welcome you with warmth, kindness, or--bare minimum--basic human decency, Paper Co Cafe is not it. Let me set the scene: I walk in, very pregnant, with my business partners--three women, all professionals, just looking for a quiet corner to meet and grab a coffee. The moment we walked in, the energy was off. No greeting, no smile, not even a "how can I help you?" Instead, when I asked a simple question about an item in the case, I was met with a snippy "check the menu." When I followed up--because, plot twist, it wasn't on the menu--I was shut down again, as if I were asking for something outrageous. You know those cafes where the staff act like you're inconveniencing them by simply existing? That. Strike one. We asked for iced water. Not fancy, not sparkling, not chilled from the Alps. Just iced water. First we're told there's a water station, but when we ask if it has ice, we get a dismissive "No." Only for her to show up with a cup of ice moments later, expecting us to Frankenstein it together ourselves. Again--attitude, no courtesy, no effort. Strike two. The noise was unbearable. It sounded like someone next door was doing a live mic check for a garage concert. Every word blared through the wall. We were trying to conduct client calls, and between the yelling, loud music, and chaotic environment, it was almost comical--if it weren't so frustrating. It's like trying to work inside a blender. Strike three. When I asked whether the tea cake I ordered was supposed to be served ice-cold from the refrigerator (because it certainly tasted like it had been forgotten in the back of one), she looked me dead in the face and... turned around. No answer. Nothing. Just complete disregard. And to top it all off, 15 minutes before they close, while I'm mid-call with a client, she interrupts me not once, but twice, to ask if I plan to "box it up or toss it." I politely motioned that I'm on the phone, only for her to keep talking until I had to say, "Ma'am, I'm on a call." Her response? "Well, this is a public space." What does that even mean? By 3:55 PM--5 minutes before closing--we were literally standing outside in the rain, lights off, garage closed, trying to find another place to go. There was no grace, no "hey take your time," not even a fake smile. Just get out. Oh--and one of our team members had a coffee that tasted exactly like warm milk. When she mentioned it, the same woman grabbed the drink and walked away. No apology, no replacement, no explanation. Just another silent slap in the face. We were there barely an hour. Spent good money. Left with cold cake, watery coffee, and the aftertaste of disrespect. If you're hoping to get work done, have a thoughtful meeting, or just be treated like a human being--go literally anywhere else. A gas station coffee would have come with more warmth. To say we won't be back is an understatement. We left feeling disrespected, disregarded, and deeply disappointed.

Great coffee spot! I believe there is a church next door so can get a little busy on Sundays. I get the flat white and it's always made well, though I think it is on the milkier side for me. There is ample space and desk space to study, though again this location can get very busy once the church/school gets out. They also have plenty of space for parking whenever I have gone. Highly recommend for everyone to try!

Love the aesthetics of this cafe! Super great spot to get some work done or chat with friends. They've got a big space with plenty of tables and seating. The windows brighten up the place tremendously. They don't have many drinks to choose from. I got the matcha latte with vanilla & oat milk, and to be completely honest, it was not great. I would've preferred to make one at home. I could barely taste the matcha. It was too watery and milky. It tasted semi-better when I drank it with a straw. I tried my friend's iced mocha, and that was a better option. Flavors were still relatively subtle- chocolate was good and there was a hint of coffee. As for the chai, it was one of the worst chais I have ever had. It was literally like a cinnamon spice scented water. My friend couldn't even drink half of it before tossing it. Empanadas were delicious. Try them out! I will say the service was absolutely amazing. My friend was celebrating her bday, and they went out of their way to find a lighter for us. Additionally, they provided plates and utensils. Super sweet staff. Drinks could use some improvement. Ample parking in the lot, which is always a plus!

Iced honey vanilla latte w/pistachio milk - 8/10 - First time trying pistachio milk, it didnt have much of a flavor but made the drink creamy. For my sweet coffee drinkers, you might wanna get this extra sweet Hot chai with oat milk - 7.5/10 - This was good, basically a dirty chai but chai wasnt very strong or sweet so it lacked flavor Almond croissant - 9.5/10 - So tasty and soft. Light filling which was perfect. Cheese empanada - 8.5/10 - Had a filling of mushroom, cheese, and corn. I really liked this. The recently opened Paper Co is one of the most spacious coffee shops ive been to. They have lots of outlets and seating so its perfect for studying/working and they even rent out their space for events. Definitely going back here

Service was amazing. Lady behind the bar was very nice. Got an iced matcha latte (whole milk) and it was delicious. I asked for it to be made strong and it did not disappoint! The matcha is smooth and not bitter at all. 10/10 One downside, way too many people on laptops so needs more seating.

Vibe- This spot is back open (they closed during covid) and being ran under Tenfold coffee! There's seating inside and outside and the decor is real clean and cute. Customer service- Great! I picked up an order from ToGoodToGo, 2 empanadas and one was a classic with was regular beef and potatoes and the other was cheese, corn and jalapeño which were very taste and delicious. I also ordered a vanilla matcha iced coffee with oat milk. I really loved the quality of the matcha, I personally love sweet matcha but have been looking to cut down on the sweetness. The matcha was excellent tasting milky. Thought the only complaint I would have is that everything is an up-charge of .95 cents, which I would understand for the milk but not for the vanilla. The staff was very friendly and attentive. This was my first time coming here, I will most definitely be coming back :)

Overall the food and the service we decent. The yogurt was fresh and really smooth. I liked that the honey on top added just enough sweetness. The scone was awesome. However, the people here were horrible when we first got there wanting to get brunch. There were soooo many people spread out on their laptops in their own little worlds that we originally were going to have to sit at a high top awkwardly with others which changed what we were originally going to order since we didn't want to take up much space. Luckily by the time the food came we were able to move somewhat to a small table of our own. I'd likely only go back to try some coffee to go.

My favorite coffee shop in all of Houston! Such a great spot to work, killer coffee, awesome vibes & tons of parking! Love Paper Co, so glad this place is back!

this coffee shop is preeeetty awesome. it pretty much has all the bells and whistles of a super cool place for all ages, but especially the basic college student looking for a hip place to study, drink coffee, and explore the city with friends. from the beginning, the interest was piqued high with it literally having no obvious indication of its existence besides a little blue door against a huge white cement wall and word of mouth hyping it up. what's additionally impressive about this place is that it's actually attached to a church. I haven't personally sat in on a service, but from I can see from the inside of paper co (no presence of any wall dividing the coffee shop and the church at all) is that the church is extremely modern with as contemporary aesthetics as the coffee shop it's attached to with emotion provoking artwork, photo booth, and etc! The coffee shop itself is very spacious. Not too many tables but they're all nicely spaced out, which definitely pleases my inner OCD monster. The environment is clean, with wooden tables, cute table decorations like you'd see on Pinterest, high ceilings, and amazing lighting. It's just minimalist enough, which is very much my preference, because I hate when things look too busy and crowded. The coffee menu matches the minimalist vibe with a few classics and then some more exotic options. I was feeling particularly adventurous and ordered the Vietnamese coffee. I've had traditional Vietnamese coffee before from actual authentic Vietnamese restaurants so I was slightly apprehensive about what might come out of paper co, which definitely is not a place that specializes in Vietnamese cuisine. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the product of the order. Although it is not even close to authentic, paper co adds it's own modern interpretation of the familiar caffeinated drink. It came in a very sweet looking mason jar with the condensed milk already mixed in. I was content with the serving size as it lasted me a good 2 hours as I leisurely sipped it. Personally, I don't like my Vietnamese coffee to be too sweet with heavy hands of condensed milk so it was delicious to me. But if you have a sweeter tooth for this kind of drink, then I would not recommend. Overall, very enjoyable experience. Got a lot of work done here (but be warned, when the ecclesia church service lets out, a rush of people come to paper & co for dinner). Will probably come back, but only criticism is that it's sort of far out from the heart of the houston so one would have to be willing to make the trek. read more

This place is known for its responsibly-sourced ingredients and friendly baristas. They really do care about their customers. The last time I went here, the business was slow, so the baristas were actually practicing their lattes! Talk about dedication to an art! I've heard they plan to roast their own coffee soon, as well as open their own full kitchen. If it's as good as the coffee, I will definitely be dining :) read more

Not the most intuitive location to find but the adventure in getting to Paper Co is worth it. The staff are knowledgeable artisan baristas who understand how to create a beautiful and delicious well-crafted beverage. Highly recommend! read more

Great place for studying! Lots of large, long tables and plenty of outlets along the walls. Parking is no problem and internet is fast enough. I got the vietnamese coffee ($3.75) when I was here, which wasn't really that authentic but it was still ok. The chocolate chip cookie ($1.75) was bomb though! read more

If you smoked a blunt on the way to enjoy a delicious latte and breakfast taco on a chilly sunday morning, boy... Probably don't come here because it's conveniently attached to a church. Conjoined is a better word because all I could hear was the african children's choir, which would usually be a great thing, except for they were being exploited and poised as african immigrants allowed to migrate because a missionary brought them to the light of god. I just happened upon Paper Co and I'm so glad I did! One of the cutest coffee shops I've ever been to in Houston! The staff is super friendly and informative. Their Vietnamese Coffee is VERY strong, so if that's how you like it, you'll love this place! Also, be sure to try their cookies! They are delicious! read more

What a break from the craziness of Starbucks. Hidden away and a little difficult to get to but I have found a new home to enjoy a great cup of coffee. Friendly, plenty of space to read or catch up on the web and above all its not Starbucks. Orders an almond milk latte. First of all they had almond milk. (5 stars just for that). Guy who was working was very nice and quick. Well made drink. read more

Really great little brunch spot tucked away close to downtown. Great espresso, delicious brunch items too like BLT with fries, French toast, etc. Also has good seating, around 8 picnic style benches inside an open modern space. Kid friendly too :) read more

I tried so hard to like Paper Co but I've come back three separate times and had a horrible experience. The kitchen doesn't seem to know how to function. Paper Co advertises an afternoon and evening menu beginning at 11:00, which theoretically should work great with my lunch hour. Nope. The first time I ordered I called ahead to place a lunch order then waited over thirty minutes after I arrived at 11:00 while the kitchen "switched over for lunch" (What? Do you prep all of your food minutes before you cook?) The second time I returned I tried to give them the benefit of the doubt and ordered at 11:30. It still took thirty minutes to get chicken tenders. Today was my last attempt. I waited the customary thirty minutes for my chicken sandwich without pesto, only to receive a chicken sandwich slathered in pesto. Unfortunately this is the only source of food within walking distance of my work. Someone PLEASE start parking a food truck near the Houston Permitting Center! read more

I really want to give this place 5 stars, but it must get its wifi working. The coffee is awesome and so is the food. Tip - their regular brunch/lunch menu is not available on Sundays. On Sundays, they have kolaches (sold out) and breakfast tacos. I had a breakfast taco and the scrambled eggs were perfect- soft, creamy and velvety. Their daily coffee never disappoints. And of course I love that the shop supports a cause (homelessness). They just need to upgrade their wifi. First time I was there, it took 10 minutes to get it to finally working (barely - i.e., not fast enough to download a simple word doc). Second time, I stopped trying after 15 minutes. read more

It was such a hot and sweltering day when I stepped inside Paper Co Cafe. The interior of this cafe has an industrial feel with lots of airy space. I came in on a Saturday afternoon, after attending the Asian Fest. It was quite busy inside because of the church members and their event. Most of the folks were friendly and upbeat though. There were even a few religious books against the shelf and this vintage looking typewriter. The menu against the wall and the arrangement of their teas are unique as well. I ordered an iced vanilla latte with half skim and half whole milk. The service was quick and I had my iced cold coffee in no time. The place was mostly crowded at the time I went, but luckily I snatched a spot on the large table. My iced vanilla latte was nice and crisp. The beans of the coffee were smooth and you could taste the subtle vanilla flavor. Overall, Paper Co is a nice spot to check out. If I ever came here to study/read then I would do so on a weekday, when its probably quiet. Located in the heights and quite out of reach from where I live, but its definitely a nice spot to visit if you're around the area. read more

I really enjoy meeting up friends at Paper Co Cafe. The coffee selection is pretty basic and it makes life easier for me who isn't a huge coffee drinker. The entire area is very open and spacious with decent amount of seating. As many people have mentioned, the cafe is attached to Ecclesia church. I find it to be interesting but doesn't really give/take away to any effect of the coffee shop/cafe. The music is very trendy and it's just a very relaxing place to hang out. If you come by around 5 pm on Sundays, there will be a church service going on so be prepared for large crowds of people wandering around. read more

Staff is friendly, coffee is good, lots of seating, good amount of parking, good internet, and they have lots of food options which is perfect if you're on a long study streak and need to break up your caffeine intake with some food. I'm a big fan, I only wish I lived closer to it. read more

Great food for the price. We had tacos...$5 for 2, corned beef hash...$8, huge plate, and mocha...all of it was really good. If i had to provide critique, i would say provide a little more sauce or something...both plates were on the dry side...personal preference, i guess...i like my food moist. read more

Cool coffee shop for a pick-me-up before or after church. I'm a fan simply because of the convenience due to its location, and because I love going to this church. The coffee is alright. I've had a cappuccino, and vietnamese and regular iced coffees. The prices are standard but the service is phenomenal and quick. I like how they use iPads as cash registers. This place is a hidden gem-a coffee shop located inside a church. It's a modern space with lots of tables and a quiet space with lots of outlets to get work done. Reasonable prices! Can be a bit confusing to find if you come in the wrong entrance as the coffee shop is at the back. I believe they also serve dinner certain nights of the week. Just wish I lived closer so I could come here regularly! read more

Ok, first of all - 1st ward has changed so much since BNTD...not going to show my age- but wow....ok now driving up to Paper Co my friends asked me (again..shows the trust) if I am taking them to harvest organs...lets just say the exterior is minimalist to say the least...but this coffee spot is SPOT ON- Lots of room, airy warehouse space with the attached school and gallery space (had to walk around...let's just say this place is very cool and coffee was good- (didn't eat there as we had burgers close to here...will review soon) but will definitely be back ( read more

The space is pleasant. The food was very good. The staff were welcoming and friendly. I didn't realize it was a church until after we were there for a minute, not an issue. Latte had a good flavor, not too sweet. We visit from Austin frequently and I would go here again. read more

Such a hard place to review....the coffee and service is what you expect, and its interesting how you have to get there. But its one of those places I feel you need to take a tourist, but you don't find yourself coming here regularly unless its to show someone new the place... read more

I was in search of caffeine after a Sunday lunch at Stanton's, and this spot was nearby. Since this is inside a church, I was expecting a glorified coffee cart, so I was surprised to see that they offered four kinds of drip coffee as well as a substantial selection of espresso preparations. My iced latte was good - nothing to write home about, but then, an iced latte is no way to really taste coffee. The baristas were friendly and the space was large and not at all crowded. If I lived in the neighborhood, it would probably become my go-to spot for a quiet place to work. read more

Tried this place for the first time today. We were pleasantly surprised! The food was great and the Vietnamese coffee was outstanding!! I recommend this place and you can't beat the downtown view of Houston. We will definitely be coming back for more. read more

Today was my second visit to Paper Co. I didn't have a lot of time on my initial visit so I just picked up a mocha(which was amazing). Because it's really near my house I decided to order to go for lunch. The service was excellent, very sweet girls working the register. I ordered the Curry Chicken Noodles!! Omg! So good! Totally reasonable at 9.75, love the good causes the profits support, will be back! read more

Too much loitering at this place. Homeless people sit inside. I went there to work and it stinks inside and the tables and chairs are dirty. Not an upscale spot despite the delicious coffee. read more

Established in 2013.

Named after the first occupants of our home at 1100 Elder St., the Phillips Paper Company, we opened in 2013. For seven years, we proudly served our community with coffee, food, and compassion. However, when the pandemic hit in 2020, we needed to close our doors to the public. So we transformed the cafe into a food kitchen, providing meals for the unhoused members of our community. Looking ahead to 2024, we are thrilled to embark on the next chapter of Paper Co. Once again, our cafe will be open seven days a week for our community and the city of Houston. We are excited to uphold the tradition of serving exceptional coffee and fostering meaningful conversation.

It was very smooth, and the matcha was not gritty. The notes of vanilla & cinnamon were present & subtle. You can tell that they strive to perfect their matcha for their customers. I'm looking forward to coming back & maybe attending a floral workshop here as well!

I can tell that the owners are putting a lot of attention and care in their establishment. I appreciated her honest advice and got the dragonfruit strawberry refresher instead. It was definitely refreshing with the perfect amount of ice to keep it cold but not water it down. I also tried one of the mini croissants which is probably what will keep me coming back. Flaky and full of high quality cheese and spices, I wish I had gotten two! I'll definitely come back at an earlier time since a lot of the pastries were sold out.

It was my first visit there, but I had generally no bad impression. I met my old friend and this place was near. We haven't long thought and made the decision to come here. I knew nothing about Paper Co Cafe like my friend too. We ordered late and I took myself Affogato. I can't say that I was surprised, but it was pretty tasty and looked as good. This area is famous for its responsibly-sourced ingredients and friendly baristas. They truly do care for their customers. The most recent time that I went here, the business was slow, so the baristas were really practicing their lattes! Talk about commitment to an art!
