Stopped here for lunch on Saturday while in OCMD. Formerly the English's Buffet years ago, we are always a fan of Mexican but haven't really had it other than maybe a late night on the boards at Guidos. But we were doing different places and this was a new lunch pick. We started with the elote on the cob which was good - I would have love to have more cheese and mayo covering. It was really only on the top. We shared a variety of Birria tacos and the MTO tacos - carnitas with cheese and jalapeno crema. The Birria tacos were very good - added cheese inside and a large bowl of the consommé to dunk them in. The consommé was really flavorful. This is not a jab at the staff or manager. I know they did their best given the circumstances. This restaurant had a busy night. My family and I were waiting on our food for about an hour when we finally called it quits. The waiter brought over the manager. The manager was apologetic and said she would comp our whole meal and alcoholic drinks. But, it was rough. Not only did we wait about an hour for the food to come out but the portions are small. They weren't very tasty. The tables and floors were dirty with food prior to us.. Unfortunately, we will not be coming back. read more

We've been to Papi's many times over the years, but after today's visit we will not be back. When we first walked in, the hostess asked if we wanted outside or inside. We chose outside but then were told to find it on our own. In previous years, the hostess sat us outside. After being send outside into the parking lot, we realized the outdoor seating was actually impossible to find. We went back inside and asked to be seated indoors. When we got our menus, we had thought maybe they did away with the build your own taco. Only after we placed our orders did we notice the order sheets hidden behind all of the hot sauces. Our waiter did not once mention the option. Again, in previous years they handed us the order sheets with the menus. My ribeye burrito arrived on a sizzling plate that sizzled so long I had to move it to another plate just to be able to eat. No rice and beans this time - just a sad, too hot burrito. Our waiter didn't return to ask if we needed any refills, which we did. By the time we finished our food, we couldn't wait to get out of there. The cherry on top was having to pay a 20% gratuity for terrible service because we were a group of 6. Maybe that's why our waiter gave us such abysmal service. Papi's is large establishment with indoor and outdoor seating (convenient for those with furry companions), plus two big bars and lots of tables. Feelings are mixed here and it's not on my list of places to return again, but the food was generally fine for a meal. Our mezcal margaritas didn't feel strong enough for me and were more on the sweet side. My daughter loved the guava delight (a mocktail). They bring you chips and salsa when you first sit. Don't be confused as this isn't like most other Mexican restaurants that give you unlimited chips and salsa. Here, they give you that first round free. Your server will likely offer to get you more...but they will charge you. And that's sort of the theme in this place. Portions are small and everything seems to cost extra. Nothing you order really comes with anything. Normally you'd get rice with that dish? Not here. It's extra. Beans? Salsa? Extra. And the servers are clever about it all too. Don't expect voluntary disclosure. The food all tasted fine. Tacos birria, 8 custom ordered tacos. All pretty good. My daughter didn't like the quesadillas too much as there really wasn't much cheese in them. Again though, nothing really comes with anything else on the plate besides the named item in the dish. It's certainly well decorated, service was attentive and there's a big parking lot. Again though, it's those details that kinda turned me off here. read more

Pretty good vibe in this cantina, good menu and very upbeat for a tourist trap. Visited the night after Cinco de Mayo And the restaurant was pretty dead Chips and salsa was good and we added the guacamole and the queso sides, the others selected different street tacos and I ordered the smothered rib eye burrito. The burrito was very under whelming and the rice in the burrito was not cooked properly and was not cooked through. Couldn't really enjoy it. The worst part was 2 out of 3 of use ended up getting sick afterwards and spend the over night and all morning hugging or stuck on the toilet. Overall 3/5 () I am conflicted on what to rate this place to be honest. From the outside, it really doesn't look that inviting but I am glad I did choose to go in. It's hard to find decent vegan/vegetarian options in Ocean City. I found this place attractive as they had a dedicated vegan menu for us and also had multiple options for street tacos. (Food - 1.5/2) We ended up trying multiple vegetarian tacos as we really liked them the first time. They have this fillable forms that you check off to customize your tacos with your favorite proteins, add-ons, sauces, salsas, and sides. It's not a long wait either, so once you give the checklist to your waiter, they turn it around real quick. I should note that the spicy sauce that we asked for was the highlight to add flavor. Otherwise, the dishes seem to be underspiced. My son enjoyed his kids quesadillas with a free toy to take home at the end of the day. That small action was enough to make him happy. (Drinks a 0.5/1) The drinks were just average. They didn't feel amazing nor did they blow me away. It was overly sweet and lacked the punch. (Service and Decor - 1/2) As for the service, it's fairly relaxed so it could come off like they don't care. However, I took it like they were just being cool and not overly pushy. Though a bit more formal friendliness couldn't hurt. The inside though can be improved as it seemed a bit outdated and too dark even at 5PM. Some better lighting and refreshed decor can change the highlight of this place. Overall, this is a decent find for vegans in the area. Not too sure if I would comeback again in future though. Got chips and salsa, that was fine. I ordered a burrito bowl and asked for no salsa, no cream toppings, no sauce. It came with a bunch of white stuff mixed in the corn. I asked what it was and the man told me mayo. I sent it back and she told me it was sour cream. It was very bland. I barely ate any of it. The waitress didn't ask why. She took a full plate away with no questions. My husband got a burrito and he liked it. The problem was the rojo sauce had went sour. Had a strong sour smell. We ordered two shrimp tacos and the shrimp had such a strong fish smell. I didn't touch it. I didn't want to be sick on my trip. I spent over $65 on a terrible dining experience. We sent almost 2 full shrimp tacos back and she didn't even ask if something was wrong with the food. I go outside and look at my bank app, she charged my card for someone else's order and didn't even tell me. Someone caught it and reversed it. We came in for brunch on air show Sunday and it was quiet with only a few tables seated in the whole place. I was disappointed that they didn't have chilaquiles on the menu (pictured here on Yelp, but not on their website - my fault not theirs). We got costilla tacos and a brunch combination. Really cannot complain about either. There's a collection of bottled hot sauces on the table and a bunch on the menu to order and customize as well. I was tempted to go with 3* here but the tacos were good, eggs were cooked perfectly, and the prices are reasonable especially considering how close to the beach you are. read more

Extremely disappointing experience. The food was nothing special, and the service was honestly below what I would expect from a restaurant like this. There was apparently only one server working the entire restaurant, but that still doesn't excuse what happened at the end. My bill was $81. I specifically told the server that I would leave his tip in cash, and I gave him $15 cash. That was the tip. Despite this, my card was charged $96 -- another $15 was apparently added to my bill as a tip. So I ended up tipping the server twice: $15 in cash AND another $15 on my card, even though I had already clearly stated that I was paying the tip in cash. I have tried calling the restaurant to get this resolved, but nobody answers the phone. The fact that a server would charge an additional tip after already receiving a cash tip is completely unacceptable. The service certainly did not justify being charged twice for a tip, and the fact that I now have to chase the restaurant just to get my money back makes the experience even worse. I would strongly recommend checking your card receipt carefully before leaving this place, especially if you are paying your tip in cash. read more

Visiting OC MD for the week and we needed a place to eat, and we landed on Papis Tacos because of the reviews. I may be a bit picky because where I live, we have fantastic Mexican food and this felt Mexican for an American audience but the dishes were flavorful and portion sizes were plentiful. Standouts were the Baja Burrito bowl and Mexican Cobb salad. We initially tried to DoorDash but the system was down. However, we saw the total on the app. When I called the order in to pick up instead, the price was over $40 more. I asked why and the staff said they were added taxes. I ended up having to ask another family member to pick up the food, and he isn't one to argue on price. Edit to add: owner Carrie reached out and we figured out the discrepancies! She quickly investigated and communicated with me throughout. It seems the way we entered the order in the app was different than how the waiter entered in the system but suffice to say I am grateful and would gladly return if I'm ever in town again. read more

We came here as a family of 8, and while the food was actually really good, the prices were way too high for what we got. I ordered the 3 birria tacos with consomé, which cost around $20. The tacos tasted good, but the consomé had absolutely no meat in it. For birria, I expected the consomé to have some meat and be more authentic. I can get bigger and better birria tacos with meat in the consomé for around $15 at a better restaurant. The horchata was also around $7 for a small cup. It tasted really good, but it was way too expensive for the size. The portions overall were pretty small for the prices. The restaurant itself was very nice and had a great location right next to the beach, so that was definitely a plus. However, the service was disappointing. We had to serve ourselves water, and the waiter still added a 20% tip to the bill. In my opinion, a tip should be for good service and going above and beyond, especially when you're already paying high prices. If the waiter couldn't even serve us water, I don't feel the 20% tip was deserved. Overall, the food was good and the location was great, but the prices, portions, and service really brought the experience down. For the amount we paid, I expected much more. read more

My wife and I returned to Papi's Tacos again this year, and it was every bit as good as we remembered. We ordered a variety of street tacos, including the adobo costillas, chorizo, al pastor, and chicken tinga. Every one of them was flavorful, well-prepared, and packed with authentic taste. The salsa selection was outstanding, with each one bringing its own unique flavor and heat level. The charro beans were rich and savory, while the rice and black beans made excellent sides to round out the meal. What stands out most about Papi's is the consistency. I had tried Papi's before for a takeout meal, and had a bad experience. The bowl I got wasn't very good, so I wasn't motivated to go back. We decided to give dining in a try last weekend it was completely different! We got seated and then saw a happy hour deal, but at the bar only. After waiting a few minutes and not having our server come anyway, we headed to the bar. We had great service at the bar and enjoyed the drink deals. We each got a meal and both were really tasty. 9/24/25 - Tonight we headed for another of the Ocean City local Mexican taco joints. This one was called Papi's and its right on the main drag. I ordered a Mission Style Burrito with beef and my wife ordered a Birria Chimichanga with steak. Apologies for not having a pic of these. I got distracted The good: The place has a lovely Mexican cantina feel to it with the obligatory large bar and welcoming lighting. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our waitress spent a lot of time explaining everything and made suggestions based on her favorites and what was on special for the evening. And the food comes very quickly too! The bad: they start by bringing a nice bowl of chips with salsa in a small plastic cup. The chips are homemade and definitely quality. The salsa is delicious with very little heat but lots of onion, garlic and cilantro flavors. The problem here is the the plastic cup barely covers a quarter of the chips. And I am not the biggest fan of a sealed plastic cup. When was this salsa made? How long has this been sitting in the fridge? It's a poor way to present food and puts questions in the mind of diners. My burrito was fine. It was flavorful and stuffed with beef, cheese, rice, refried beans and peppers with a delightful red salsa sauce served on the side. It comes in a soft flour tortilla and is plated with pico de gallo. The portion is somewhat small. It's enough to satisfy you for sure but if you are looking for leftovers the next day, this shouldn't be your choice. My wife's chimichanga had bigger issues however. It comes deep fried with a drizzled white sauce on top. It had all the same stuffing as mine but her meal must have bounced around a bit in the fryer causing the inside to have a mixed and unappealing look to it. There was very little you could identify. The big deal breaker for her was the steak. Many of the steak pieces were grisly and inedible. Maybe the bar was set too high at last evening's dinner, but tonight's meal just didn't measure up. My mom and I had a wonderful experience at Papis Taco Joint in Ocean City, Maryland on Saturday, December 13 around 6:00pm. Our server, Sean, was absolutely incredible. He was so warm, welcoming, and genuinely hospitable. His service truly went above and beyond and made our visit even more enjoyable. We ordered the Beyond Meat tacos, and they were delicious. As vegetarians, we were thrilled to see a Beyond Meat option on the menu, which is not something you find at many restaurants, and it meant so much to have a flavorful, thoughtfully prepared vegetarian choice. Between the amazing food, the inclusive menu options, and Sean's outstanding service, this was a fantastic dining experience.
