First time trying this shop. I'd seen the menu before and thought the food sounded good but hadn't had the chance to try it out until yesterday. Stupid me. Never even thought to query cheesesteak in or around Houston. Got corrected by a friend who said "go to Pappa Geno's". I don't post unless I'm really upset or very happy. Geno's made very me happy. I plan to gain weight soon and I'm gonna rely on this place to make it happen. I'm not trying to disparage the food here. Hell, I'm embracing it. I had the Wicked Philly. My bosses wanted to take me here because they love to watch me eat. After seeing the Fat Philly I understood what their game plan was. Cheesesteak covered in the traditional onions and cheese with but with a kick. When I say a kick I mean a kick to the gut. Go ahead and add mozzarella sticks, chick strips, french fries, and gravy to the mix. It's awesome! It's almost impossible to hold and makes a huge mess, but after diving into with a fork and knife you'll figure it out. I would suggest getting the fries on the side though. They subtract from the overall flavor in my opinion, and I feel like without them it may be feasible to pick up and bite into. I've also recently had the chicken swiss. It was exceptionally good. However, the mushrooms were a bit lacking. If you feel like hating some life decisions but savoring every bite, you might want to give this spot a try. read more

I don't know what's going on in these guys lives but they have had a rotten attitude every single time I've ordered from there. They're the only Philly restaurant in my area or I would definitely pass. The food is good, but damn you have to be treated like you're a burden to get it. read more

A great place to go if you're craving a Philly cheesesteak. The bread is nice and toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. I got the Freaky Philly and it was pretty delicious. The only complaint I have is that because of the cheese, meat, and gravy, it's just slightly too salty in my opinion. But the bread really helps balance it out. The cheese fries were average, nothing memorable. The place is fairly clean, however our table was dirty and we had to wipe it off with some napkins before sitting down to eat. Overall, I would come back whenever I get a craving for a Philly cheesesteak! read more

Warning! I'm third coast born and texas raised, not a Philadelphia native, if this review offends you, too bad! Without many real cheesesteak options in Southeast Houston, I must say that I was stoked to see this place open! I ordered a #6 Freaky Philly with fries and a drink. My expectations weren't as high as the $14 bill, but those worries faded away as my order arrived at my table hot and fresh in less than 5 minutes. EVERYTHING exceeded my expectations. The bread was perfectly crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, and it only got better (and softer) as I ate. There was plenty of tender, thinly sliced beef and toppings, a perfect mix of fillings to bread in my opinion. The cheese/gravy/peppers ratio was spot on. My fries were fresh out of the fryer and piping hot with what seemed like a nice coating/seasoning, definitely not typical fast food fries (and I'm not usually a french fry guy). I'll be back without hesitation, and will definitely update this review if my humble opinion changes with future visits. read more

Been here before and like the sandwiches. But today, the guy at the register, had a horrible attitude. After sitting down, my friend mentioned the attitude as well so it wasn't me. Then we watched him with the same attitude with other customers. Finally we saw a customer with a take-out order literally arguing with him and calling him an animal. Been a while that I've been wanting to try this place and I'm glad I finally did! Had the philly style steak & cheese and fries. The fries at first glance didn't seem seasoned but they actually had a pretty great flavor! The bread is soft yet still toasty and the meat is well seasoned with the cheese and onions. My girlfriend got the disco fries with cheez whiz and brown gravy. These are A MUST. Made us a get a side of gravy to put on our sandwiches and it took it to the next level. 1 st time here . My son and I came for lunch and the cheese steaks were very good . A little pricey but I will be back .

First time eating there, so I called in a order and I waited about five minutes because she told me it would be ready in about 5 to 10 minutes. I got there, a door ring when I opened the door so I figured somebody would be with me shortly. I waited and waited. There was nobody in the lobby eating, and there was nobody behind the counter or even in the kitchen. I was so confused And was wondering what was going on. I then wait another 15 minutes. Finally, somebody walked in, another customer. He is standing waiting to order, but nobody still has showed up. I then called his phone to see if maybe somebody would answer or hear it ringing to go up to the front. It rings for like 2 to 3 minutes. A cook from the back came out and I asked them. Where is the person that supposed to take my order? He said hold on because he couldn't find her. Another minute goes by and she finally comes out of the bathroom with a backpack and smiles and doesn't even say anything like nothing happened. I was waiting a whole 15 minutes for her just to come out so I can get my food. And all she says is hi do you want your receipt not sorry or anything. So annoying and I won't be back if she's there. She needs to be talked to now the food on the other hand, I've heard it's good, and I am excited to try it, but disappointed with her customer service and her leaving the front for 20 minutes while I'm trying to pick up my food. read more

So, I am not a huge cheese steak person, but my husband has family in Philly, and when he passed by he had to try it. He is very picky, but he liked it (with the exception of hot peppers--he says that there should be sweet peppers on cheese steak). I have to say as a novice, it was really good, but remember the napkins. The meat wasn't greasy, the cheese was perfectly melted and the green peppers and onions really hit the spot. Thoroughly disappointed. You're suffocated by the nasty stench of sewer gas as soon as you walk in. It's like a slap in the face. There appears to be a co2 problem with the soda-fountain machine so your drink will always be flat. And noticed algae on the water line feeding the same machine. Also, I've never got what I ordered. We order from Pappa Geno's at least once a week and we are never disappointed. This week, we also got an order of the fried mushrooms...to die for!!! Seriously one of my most favorite restaurants in the Pasadena/Deer Park area. The food is always hot and delicious, the meat is well flavored and tender, and the bread is always toasted perfectly.
