**This is a 3.5 Star review.** So, I'm not a huge fan of Disco Fries (poutine with a slab of cheese), but when I saw it on the menu, I knew this place must be legit. I lived on the Jersey Shore and traveled frequently to Philadelphia. I've done the Pat's vs. Geno's thing (they're both delish). I've had plenty of cheesesteaks at WaWa (Google it) and many roach coaches along the Eastern Seaboard. What most people don't get is the bread. The bread should be soft and chewy, and Pappa Geno's does a good job with that. The meat in an original cheesesteak is supposed to be cheap, thinly sliced and quickly grilled. Tender. Greasy. Wonderful. Pappa Geno's does a good job with that too. But -- there's enough black pepper to float a battleship! And there's nothing authentic about that! None of the original Philly cheesesteak joints empty half a can of black pepper onto their meat. Though I enjoy black pepper, my crew (including my Yankee wife) had some issues. Yo, Pappa Geno's! Enough already! Tone it down! We can add our own black peppa! (Still, this is an outstanding sandwich, as far as my taste buds are concerned.) Fries here are meh, but I like them because they warm up nicely in the toaster oven. The Disco Fries? Spot on with even the best diners along the New Jersey Turnpike! If you are a displaced Garden State or Eastern PA person, this joint might warm your soul. If you're a Houston person looking for a taste of the Northeast, you might well enjoy this place. Either way, tell them "Hey! Ease up on the throttle with the black pepper!" You're welcome. ;-) read more

Absolutely unacceptable service! There was no one at the front to take our order, so my group waited 5-7 mins for someone to walk to the front and attempt to take our order. Our party finishes ordering and waits at one of the tables near the front, and there was no AC. So, after sweating up a storm, we finally get our food after 20 mins of waiting. As, the staff was chatting it up in the back. To top it all off, the food was terrible. The Philly cheesesteak had more onions than it did steak, and the bread was as hard as a rock. The food was ok spent about 19$ with 2$ tip and drink and tax. The sandwich was ok but not something famous like the name. But I ate the whole sandwich and was still hungry. The portions were not equal to the price. The service was quick though but because it was empty. If you're hungry and want to fill up on a budget this is not the place. Came during lunchtime on a Monday. There was no wait and plenty of open tables. The majority of the menu is Philly cheesesteaks but they also have burgers and things. I ordered the freaky Philly. The food came out pretty quickly. In terms of taste the Philly was a 10/10. I enjoyed eating it but it was pretty greasy. There was a small pool of grease in the basket when I picked up the sand which. Definitely dab it down with some napkins before eating it. Although I don't know if I can make this part of the regular rotation, I will be back when I'm not on a diet and in the mood for something delicious. read more

Food is ok but a little overpriced. I ordered the Pappa Geno's sandwich. Their website menu shows a price for a combo, but they charged me for the cheese fries and drink at menu price. In total I spent $18.69 ($17.26 plus tax) for the meal which is simply too much money for a fast food meal. The bread was tasty, and the fries were nice and crispy, so the food was decent. read more

Terrible customer service. Ordered 70$ worth of food. Specifically said only mushrooms and meat on one. They added mayonnaise so when daughter asked for it to be corrected they reused unless she paid more for another! That's unacceptable due your staff adding something we did not ask for? We had not even received our food yet and there were all kinds of things wrong here. The restaurant had no sides, the cashier/cook said she was only placing to go order but then proceed to do a sketchy to go order. As we're waiting we also were greeted by another hungry "customer" . Let me start of by saying papagenos knows how to make cheese steaks! They are the best in Houston and the best I've had in the United States! I tried them out 9 years ago when they first opened up on Tc jester and Ella. I go to that location from time to time as well as the one on Eldridge. Today was my first time visiting the Pasadena location. This company has simply perfected the cheese steak! All of the locations make them to perfection! I am very happy to see them expanding! If you live or work in this area this is simply a must try! You will not be disappointed! Their cheesesteaks are so good. They come filled with meat. They give you such a huge portion for the price. I have eaten here a few times. Each time I think maybe I just came at a bad time. This visit was no different, I ordered and waited for my food, a number two cheese steak. The food is good, but very overpriced for the service. I initially had trouble just getting a sandwich only. I usually find little to complain about, this place just makes me feel that every one is just complacent and disconnected. No bad attitudes or resentment, they all seem to have other things on their mind. The ambiance is pretty stark and unappealing. If I were to eat here again it would have to be a to go order! I heard through a coworker that they had a Philly cheesesteak cheese burger and it was really good. Of course I was interested. So I call from work to tell him we wanted to order 5 of the Philly cheesesteak cheeseburgers he said with an attitude do you want a 21 or a 22. I said I don't know I don't have a menu. He said well I need to know what you want. So I listed off the ingredients I wanted and he said once again with an attitude 21 or 22. So I asked for him to explain the difference and he said to look on the menu. We don't have good service at work but I tried to pull it up. It took a little while and he just hung up on me without saying a word. I figured maybe he was having a bad day. We ordered another time. I made sure I knew exactly what it was this time what we wanted. I asked him to confirm the order and he just says it will be ready in 10-15 minutes and hangs up. The #21 is good no doubt. I've had cheesesteak from Philly multiple times and Papa Geno's is the real deal alternative to the real thing. I have never made it to their other locations so I can't judge the consistency. This location is in a little strip center across from the college. It was empty at around 7 pm on a weekday which had me worried, but we saw a lot of to go orders as we sat there. I assume they get the college crowd during the day. Ordering was easy and the cashier was friendly. The food took awhile to come out, but you can hear them making everything to order, so no big deal there. I had not eaten since the night before so I came hungry. I saw the Fat Philly and thought I had to get that. It was the regular sandwich, but then topped with chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, fries, gravy and cheese sauce. It's definitely a fork and knife sandwich! If I had to make a suggestion to the owners, please get better plastic ware, because it was very difficult to eat. I started off picking at the fries topped with gravy and I was blown away. That gravy was delicious. The chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks were what you would expect anywhere. The real star of the show was the steak and cheese. You can tell they use quality ingredients. The steak was seasoned well with an abundance of pepper. The bread was fresh. It's a very rich sandwich for sure. Although delicious, I will stick with a regular sandwich next time specifically for the ease of eating it. Make sure to get a side of gravy to dip your fries! PAPPA GENO'S. SOOO GOOOOOOD. The Philly cheesesteaks here are BY FAR my favorite in Houston. I ordered the number one Philly cheesesteak with fries, and it is so filling I cut it in half and split it between two meals. The whole meal is just perfect, I highly recommend it for anyone not counting their calories and wanting just a truly hearty meal. The restaurant wasn't too crowded when I went during lunch, I got my food to go, and it was just as good as eating it there. The first thing i tried were the fries, they were good!! OK we're off to a good start. Next up my cheese steak with sauteed onions, peppers, mushrooms, and provolone cheese. It was HOT and straight off the grill. Bread toasted lightly, with all that cheesey goodness inside. My first bite and im thinking, "Oh yes, that's what a cheese steak should taste like." Be prepared to wait a few minutes for your order, maybe 5 to 8 minutes, id imagine longer during busier times and look to spend between $8 to $10 for the cheese steak alone, sides and drinks are seperate. Restaurant is roomy and clean with a bright orange and blue decor. This place is a winner in my book. Keep this up and I'll definately be back. Also, just eating half of my sandwhich and a few fries and i was full. Id think a whole one and a side would be plenty for others. read more

I haven't been to Pappa Geno's in several years. In fact, when I went last, the Ella location was the only location in Houston. Now there are 6 in the Houston area. I remembered they opened a location in the Pasadena area, so I decided to come one weekday after visiting a client and try it again. The location is within a strip space, but it's a good size spot with plenty parking in either the front or back lot. As far as the interior, the usual orange and white checkered decor is throughout, music is playing on speakers mounted on 3 walls, and there are also 3 televisions along one side wall to watch. I went with the most popular item, the #1 steak and cheese. Toppings are a la carte, even though they are free at some other places around Houston that serve phillys. I knew the lunch would be around $12 anyway. My philly was pretty good. There is a slight peppery taste to the chopped meat. The cashier let me sub provolone for the usual white American, that a lot of restaurants are starting to use, which comes standard on the #1. Fries are just blah. They're good for when you add toppings to them due to their crispiness, but just by themselves, they're boring frozen salted fries. If only they served hand cut fries. The gold peak iced tea machine only had 2 options, not the 4 most other restaurants have. read more

It doesn't matter which location you go to, it is always on point and what you LOVE about Pappa Geno's. The philly cheesesteaks are perfection. From the toppings to the bread! Did I mention the bread? The vessel is just as important and you'll never have a stale bread here! Don't skip out on the fries either! Do it all the way and don't forget to add the peppers for an extra crisp and kick. Wish we had a location closer to us but it is always worth the drive. Just tried to order something made with chicken, such as chicken salad sandwich, grilled chicken sandwich, etc. Was informed by person taking the phone order that they didn't have any chicken whatsoever. After recently traveling to Philly and having the original... this is as close as it gets in Houston! The food is great; clean dining area. Sandwich: soft hoagie roll with crispy crust outside , juicy seasoned steakums and cheez wiz... the only difference is the veggies are a little crispier than what you get on one in Philly "wit" . Service... you go to counter, put in order, they bring it to you ... sometimes the young lady smiles sometimes she doesn't... that's the only reason for the star loss.
