My husband and I were out by Katy a few weeks ago and craving greek food. This place had been on my radar for awhile so we finally stopped in to try it. The inside is very bright and clean; i love the blue floors. The servers are incredibly helpful and will explain anything on the menu before you order. FYI they dont wait tables here, you will order at the counter and be given a number. okay, so, on to the food. We ordered a cheesesteak pita sandwich, gyro fries, and a greek salad to share. There really isn't anything better than a philly cheesesteak sandwich on a warm fluffy greek pita. This is a must-order and we are going to have trouble exploring other thing on the menu when this sandwich is so dang delicious. The gyro meat on the fries was very generous, honestly the loaded fries could be a meal for one person with how much they load the topping. My husband loved the french fries, they came out hot and fresh but weren't greasy and had the perfect balance of crispy exterior and soft inside. I only wish the greek salad was bigger because it was fresh, crunchy and delicious. If you are a big salad lover or want to share with more than 2 people definitely get two orders. By the time we inhaled everything we couldn't resist getting dessert too so we tried the rice pudding. Another killer menu item. I think this place blows Niko Niko out of the water if you are looking for classic greek food. I wish they had a location closer to our house but we will look forward to grabbing a bite here whenever we are near Katy! read more

Been a big fan of Pappa Gyros for a while now, but I just tried their original Gyro "Athens Style" for the first time and WOW. Blown away. Let's break it down: Presentation: Neatly and securely wrapped. When opened, the toppings look a little messy, but honestly? I wouldn't trust a Gyro that wasn't!! Texture: Some of the most tender lamb I've ever had, every time I go. Soft pita. Creamy tzatziki. Onions and and tomatoes cut so recently they still had some bite to them. Fries and feta just added that extra something special to the mix, crispy and crumbly. The entire thing was made so fresh that the meat was still warm and the sauce was still cold by the time I got it home. Taste: What I would call "a perfect balance." Warm, savory spices from the meat and the fries contrasted perfectly with the acidity from the onions and tomatoes as well as the brightness from the tzatziki and feta. A plain (but not unwanted) taste from the pita serves as the perfect base for it all. Service: Employees are always friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Overall: This is a must-see (must-eat?) spot in Katy. I would even say it's worth a trip out of the way. The hype on local FB food groups are overwhelming. "You have to go". "Best Greek food I have ever had"....and the posts go on and on. Almost feels like its an old boys networks pumping one another up. Come to find out that that is precisely what it is. Bro's helping bro's. No real issue with that just an eyebrow lift and a heathy amount of skepticism. Is this place really as good as those FB page proclaim? Turns out not really. Not bad to be honest BUT not anything close to the hype. Gyros fall apart as you try and eat it. Kids cheese burger is gross, Philly cheesesteak gyro, not sure why we got it. Service is great until you have to pay and there it is AGAIN. Not only here but all over since COVID. That subtle yet embarrassing tipflation, You have seen it just did not know what it means. Here is some help: Tipflation, also known as tip creep, is a term to describe the United States' recent widespread expansion of gratuity to more industries, as opposed to being traditionally only prevalent in full-service restaurants. Touch-screen digital payment systems run by companies like Clover and Square include gratuity prompts that are often visible to nearby members of the public and the service worker. The social pressure created from such systems is often separately mentioned as guilt-tipping, and tipflation has also been seen as causing tipping fatigue, which is the resentment that American consumers generally feel from tipping culture for no work done. If I order at the front desk, get my own drink, get my own crappy plastic knife and fork, pump my own ketchup wtf are you embarrassing me into a 30% tip!!! I chose "ignore tip". It was like everything changed in that moment. Mr. Smiley behind the counter became Mr. Grumpy. No more smiles. Drop the food as if we were begging for it. He then walked over to the staff whispering and pointing in our direction. All the staff turned around and glared us. All my kids wanted to do was get the hell out of there. No doubt something happened to the food. Insult to injury four meals were served on one tray and we all ate our sloppy gyros on half cleaned tables. Seriously. When do you expect a 30% tip for taking my order and making me do the work. This sh&t is gonna backfire on you and so many other fast food joints out there. We, the public, are sick of it AND there are other restaurants out there that wont change regular menu prices on you without notice (yes, we noticed the $2 creep). Last tip.....mow the weeds outside. It looks like a jungle:) While I do understand inflation extremely well this slow creep bs will make me never set foot in this or other similar restaurants. read more

Have only tried this place a handful of times, but I leave with a full belly and am always happy with whatever I ordered off their awesome menu. Not sure if we always go during off hours, but there's never generally a huge line, so guess that's good for us. Still a couple things on the menu that I'd love to try, so might stop by again this evening for dinner. If you love very sweet Baklava...this is your place as well. read more

I'm so glad I found this place! Their menu is absolutely overwhelming, but it's a one stop shop. In the mood for gyros? Hot dogs? Burgers? They've got it all. And it's all good! Place is good for fast food. Would choose it over almost anything else drive-through, but honestly if you're dining in or doing take out I'd go somewhere else. The gyros are not incredibly flavorful, but the Italian sandwich is good. Their chili sauce is the strangest one I've ever had, not spicy or tasty, pretty watery, pretty weird. Update to a previous review - I have been back to Pappa Gyros several times, and the food is consistently delicious and hits the spot every time. The original gyro is the way to go! I have now also tried the spanakopita, which is a Greek spinach pie stuffed with spinach and feta served with Greek salad. I really enjoyed this as well. If I had to choose, I'd say my favorite is still the original gyro but this comes in second, above the moussaka plate we tried on our first visit. I highly recommend giving this spot a try if you haven't been already! read more

Why 5 stars? Because if I lived anywhere near here, this would be my go-to for all things Greek. --- --- --- I've wanted to come here for a while now, but virtually never find myself in Katy. On this trip to Houston, I knew I'd be in Katy, which meant I immediately knew I'd be coming here for lunch. As has probably been the case for many others, I did not realize it would in the parking lot of a gas station, sharing space with convenient store. But you know what? That absolutely adds to the charm. I really wanted to order a gyro, but I was so tempted by the Italian Beef when I saw it was one of the top review highlights. With my Mom quickly deciding to order the gyro, I figured I would go with the Italian beef and we could share. It turns out, we both loved the gyro and thought the Italian beef was just okay. But that's probably as it should be considering the name of the place isn't Pappa Italian Beefs. Speaking of, Chris came out to the tables and spoke to everyone while we were here. He is just as nice of a guy as the reviews say. And Dylan (sp?) working at the front made the experience even better. And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the desserts. We ordered some kind of daily special Italian Crème Cake, as well as some baklava. Both were amazing. Just thinking about it as I write this review a couple days later makes me wish I had some more right here with me. I'm so happy to see a humble place like this having such great success. So as a Greek, I was extremely disappointed to find that the fries are frozen. Definitely were not cooked fresh. Patatas are a huge staple in Greek cuisine and fresh fries would bring this restaurant from a 3 star rating to a five star. Aside from that, staff was really friendly and the gyros were stuffed! They definitely did not skimp on the meat. I have no complaints of the food (except for the fries). The price was not worth 4.99 for a small container of frozen fries with feta. Today 6/27/24 I ordered the Colombian style hotdog and I was disappointed in their choice of sausage. I kid you not it was probably the size of a sharpie high-liter. The flavor was there but they stuff it with all the ingredients to hide the small sausage. Been to many Colombian restaurants and they all use better sausages. Holy Heck! Best gyro I've had in a while! Picked up a friend after a medical procedure and you know they don't want to eat before those things so Papa Gero's is where she wanted to go afterwards so we pulled in got two Gyro sandwiches to go with two orders of baklava to go I waited until I was back on 99 to start eating mine After dropping her off at her house and getting her all situated oh my goodness it was the best Giro I've had in quite a while. I even saved one and I do only mean one bite for my son for him to try. He agreed now I'm gonna have to figure out a reason to go over on Katie to just eat here. It's that good. Katy, listen up, this is food done right. I'm a Michigander and the one thing I have missed out some genuine coneys. I was so excited to stop in and try a few Detroit coneys. First off this place is cool. Classic cars out front, friendly and welcoming staff on the inside and I had the pleasure to meet the owner Chris. He was gracious enough to chat with me for a bit and I loved learning about his background and the development of his business. His father was a business man back in Michigan and owned a few coney diners. I can not thank Chris enough for bringing back a little taste of home. Hey even have Faygo. I almost lost it ... lol. If you have ever missed those comforts you are use to as a kid you will totally understand. Make sure you come check this place out. This place is easily in my top 5 places to eat in the Houston area. They make a Chicago beef and sausage combo that will make you want to watch The Bear and listen to big band blues music. Friendly staff and you can even shake hands with the owner if you're there on the right day. It's amazing food done exactly right. read more

Honestly a bit underwhelming. I ordered an Italian sausage sandwich and what I got was an Italian sausage with peppers and onions with sloppy marinara and cheese in a pita. Husband had the Greek salad with gyro meat but couldn't get through it due to the flimsy forks provided- broke 3 in the salad. We tried the blueberry pie- crust was under baked as were the cookies. Out of iced tea and ketchup as well. Asked for more and got handed a handful of packets. Might try them again in a while once they get their feet under them but no rush to return. read more

Soooooo, I was a bit apprehensive before going here but I'm sooo glad I did. Detroit native and I was in D heaven. I haven't had chili cheese fries and over three years and the chili sauce was on point and I even loved the Cajun fries that were served with it. They had Better Made chips and Faygo! They even had Italian beef and Italian sausages! So the coney was alright but didn't hit like American Coney in the D. Will go again. read more
