Pappadeaux's has become one of our "must stop" places whenever we travel. AND, whenever we're coming back from NOLA, we almost always stop at this one in Beaumont. The food is outstanding! I had the Cajun Combo for lunch and opted to upgrade my "cup" of gumbo to a bowl for $1. Well, I should've just stuck with a cup. The bowl is HUGE! Just a bowl and that awesome French bread they bring you would've been enough for lunch. But, I had to have a po'boy fix so I got the blackened catfish po'boy as part of the combo. WOW! That was great, albeit a bit messy. The catfish was delicious, moist, flaky, perfect. It was all I could do to try and finish it all. Service is top-notch, although our waiter was a tad bit TOO attentive. There's a fine line between being good and being intrusive. He was teetering on that line. But, I'd rather have too good than NOT good any day! Prices are a little high for a lunch budget, but it really is worth it. Omg. Hadn't had 'deaux's in a year. Awesome food, service. A total fix. I'm upset because I didn't leave room for dessert. I have never left without bread pudding. It's to die for. Full and rich with flavor. Of all the different states and locations I've been to this one topped the cake with superior service, mostly by Jay. He didn't miss a beattt!!! Must try the Mississippi Opelousas catfish, alligator appetizer - it's enough for a meal. Chicken strips don't stand a chance once you've had their Alligator. And let me not forget the bread pudding, lol I know I mentioned it already. You don't come this far from Cali to order stuff you can get at home. I loved Pappadeaux, but I had a terrible experience with the management there yesterday with my co-workers. We had called ahead, tried to get a table for my whole team, only to be told that we couldn't have more than 6 people to a table. However when we arrived not 10 ft from us there was a gathering FILLING four tables pushed together side by side. We moved our tables together, and we were told that we had to separate them. When we asked why they were telling us it's regulation, when we asked why the group of at least 15 people were able to sit together, we didn't get a straight answer. So we agreed and WE moved our tables apart. But apparently it wasn't far enough for the Manager named Malcolm who very rudely came up to me and my co-workers and asked "Do I need to move this table?" and started pulling it WHILE WE WERE STILL SITTING. We were spending close to 500 on FOOD. Couldn't believe that such a rude person with TERRIBLE customer service was given authority at such a "fine"(or so I thoguth) establishment. There were more problems, one which Malcolm refused to apologize for his rudeness telling my co-worker "That's not going to happen" when he asked for an apology to our group. If I could give less than 1 star I would. May not return. 0/5 stars, very disappointed that this is who the owners appointed to management. Birthday lunch today was at Pappadeaux's in Beaumont on Walden Rd and IH-10. I don't come here often so I was excited to go. Trent was our waiter and he was absolutely the best. He was friendly, humorous, accommodating and kept us smiling. We started off with appetizers. When you can't make up your mind you get all the ones you want.I ordered the Mozzarella Cheese Sticks, the ones on steroids. They are monstrous in size, but so very delicious. Pockets of stringy, delicious cheese inside a crispy crust. This was served with a spicy marinara sauce to bathed these cheese logs in. These are without a doubt the Mercedes Benz of fried cheese. Along with the cheese sticks, we ordered the baked Crab Mac and Cheese. This creamy delight is a meal all by itself. It consisted of a bowl of Italian Orecchiette (ear-shaped) pasta tossed with fresh crabmeat, in a three cheese cream sauce with buttered bread crumbs. This pasta was a perfect cradle for the rich cheesy sauce. What could be more delicious than this? My husband ordered the lump crab and spinach dip with garlic bread. Beautiful presentation and he didn't stop eating until the bowl was clean. For the entrées, I ordered Cajun Combo (with substitutions). It's a blackened catfish fillet, with dirty rice and shrimp creole. I substituted the shrimp creole for shrimp étouffée. This was on the lunched menu and it was huge for $18.95. This dish was bursting with all types of blacken and Creole flavors. The dirty rice was packed with savory goodness and comfort delight. So much food i brought over half of it home. My grandson ordered the Pasta Mardi Gras, with an absolutely gorgeous presentation. It was linguine tossed with crawfish, andouille sausage and mushrooms in a marinara cream sauce with jumbo grilled shrimp for $18.95. He cleaned his bowl so it must have been good. Lastly, we shared an absolutely awesome dessert. We had bread pudding, à la mode (ice cream on top). A rich, cinnamon flavored bread pudding with raisin, warm on the inside and a crispy crust on top. This was a pastry masterpiece and we enjoyed every bite. I'll be dreaming of this sweet delicacy for quite some time. A dessert made in heaven. My entire experience today was wonderful from the greeters to the wait staff and also including the food. Pappadeaux's is pricey but oh so good. It was the highlight of my day and I enjoyed it all. The food is good but way overpriced. That's not my beef with them here. I stay in Beaumont for work often and I eat here on occasion. I usually get takeout. Every time, the takeout is always run by one person and they are on the phone taking orders so often that anyone standing there is forgotten. It happened again tonight so I walked out and went to another Cajun seafood restaurant just down the road a short distance. The food is good and much more reasonable in price. I eat at higher end restaurants at home and their sit down and takeout service is much better and more in line of what you would expect for s meal in this price range. read more

I have been spreading the word about this place for years. I've never really had a bad meal here ever, until today. After bragging about this place incessantly to some people that we brought here from out of town, wouldn't you know it was a disaster! We got there early on Saturday (July 2nd) afternoon and the place wasn't busy at all. We waited for what seemed like an eternity in a little room off the side of the bar. (We even had reservations! ) We were finally seated and greeted by our waiter, a pleasant young man. Let's just cut to the chase. The food took FOREVER to come out. I had to get up and ask a manager where the food was. Remember it wasn't very busy by Pappadeaux standards. Just as soon as I complained, wouldn't you know the food came out that exact minute. Funny how a little complaining quiets the squeaky wheel. Several of my friends ordered the special, which was tile fish. It came out cold and tasteless. The shrimp on top of the tile fish were way overcooked and cold. Actually, all the food was cold. Totally not up to what we were used to at Pappadeaux's. Here's the deal, I don't mind paying confiscatory prices if the food and service are stellar, and remember the prices here are absolutely CONFISCATORY! (I mean $45.00 for an entree? Hey Pappadeaux's, EVENTUALLY, you're going to price the average bear out of coming to your restaurant!) The caveat here is everything's got to be good to excellent to get those prices. The service was okay but the guy got no backup from the kitchen. Everything was cold because apparently it sat on the counter. The manager came up with a BS story that the reason it sat there was they had to wait longer to cook one of my friends steaks to medium well! If you believe that story you might have voted for the guy that just got into office. I've never met the Pappas Brothers, I don't even know if they're still alive. I do know that they set big standards to allow for huge expectations. As I said I've always enjoyed eating here. It's always been a treat for myself and my family. Now, not so much. Sorry, won't be back. Just too much money for too little quality and face it, with everything getting expensive there's not much discretionary money to go around unless you have your own oil well. Downgraded on this particular visit. My Ahi Tuna and lump crab with a lemon chili sauce - served on *top* of mashed potatoes and squash - was a bit strong on the lemon and was just a conglomeration of foods, the dish had no distinct flavors. It was hard to differentiate between any one component as they all tasted of the lemon sauce. Really quite disheartening as I've had Ahi Tuna at many other places, many different ways but this is my least favorite serving. read more

It's unfortunate that I have an allergy to fish & not shell fish however the old chef use to fry my shrimp seperatly due to my allergy. Let me start with...my son is an excellent chef, my husband is a phenomenal cook and studied at Cornell's Hotel School and I have been in customer service for 40 years. We are not hard to please, but do know good food and service. Pappadeaux's is somewhat of a chain, but I have enjoyed them off and on for many years in Houston. While visiting my aging mother and aunt, who are beyond picky, we had the BEST meal. They loved their fried shrimp and I have honestly never had a better crab cake in my life. Top it off with amazing service. Kobe seems like he is meant for the service industry and so much more. Light hearted, professional, so genuine, beyond helpful and on top of every request. We are his biggest fans this week! I hear he runs track for Lamar (per another employee I bragged to). I am Wowwwed at his time management and work ethic between school, sports and his exemplary service. I will be stopping in for a crabcake every time I visit Beaumont. Update... Just got back from an anniversary lunch. I had the Papadeaux Platter and it was great. We had more than enough to bring home. My wife had her Shrimp Ceasar Salad. It was great and very fresh. She had extra Ceassr dressing and brought a lot home. Our server, Kelli, as a delight. The whole thing came to about $60 bucks..., that's without drinks (where they make a killing). Kelli gave us great chocolate cheesecake. Papadesux's the BEST. read more

I'm Cajun and I rarely eat Cajun food outside of Louisiana. I absolutely love this place. Almost every time I drive through Texas on I-10 I stop and eat at this amazing place. The seafood platter is enough to feed two people. The atmosphere is rustic but classy. If you are not full from your main course the desserts are equally amazing. First, I have to sit outside in the cold and wait 45 minutes for a drink that I had to pay for in advance. Then, I have to sit at the bar for 45 minutes for food when I was hungry two hours ago. I haven't eaten this much bread since 2005! One chick thought they could just sit at the bar like you could do two years ago. They had to make them leave and it took a few. She was all like "ok I'll move when someone shows up to sit here" Really? FYI-Brown butter wine sauce is not the same as light lemon butter sauce. Staff was great tho. It was ok but some of there allergy stuff isn't right. I'm not allergic to seafood but i am allergic to a lot of other things. My family was going out to eat and they had a really good looking Crab Cakes, it didn't say anything about allergies besides seafood (obviously). My husband and I decided to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary with an early dinner at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen. We were seated at a nice table, however the party seated next to us were very loud. I asked the waitress if we could move to a table a few feet away and she said yes but that she wouldn't be our waitress. She then walked away. My husband and I changed tables and just sat there. No one waited on us -- even though there were other occupied tables nearby. Two waiters tending to the tables next to us stood around and chatted with each other, and one even showed apparently a disappointing tip on a credit card receipt to the other. Still no one approached us. Several minutes later, the same waitress from our original table came to our table and said because no one had tended to us, that she would take our order. We placed our order (including a cocktail). It took several minutes to get our raw oysters appetizer. I never received my cocktail. After finishing our appetizer, we waited again for several minutes. The hostess sat another couple next to us, and a third waiter promptly addressed them. Tired of waiting and virtually being ignored, my husband left money on the table to cover our appetizer and tip, and we left. On my way out, I stopped and asked the hostess for the manager. Another person went to find him, however, I was tired of waiting and decided to just leave my comments on Yelp so that perhaps the manager will publicly recognize how some of his staff is poorly trained. The waitress was rather mechanical towards us, however I can't blame her, because she had several tables, including a large party, and was really hustling. I started with an appetizer where I had the lobster bites with a side of garlic cheese bread. The sauce it comes in is to die for! Both were really good!!! Went back tonight, and everything was fantastic. Granted, for our entrees, we ordered fried food (Cajun Chicken Tenders and the Fried Seafood Platter) which don't take too much skill to prepare, but they were very good. Especially the stuffed shrimp and the stuffed crab, which I normally don't like, but these were good. We also ordered ordered the Gulf Coast Oysters. Again something that doesn't take a lot of skill, but their supply is very good. Very clean and delicious! We were just going to have a dozen, but they were so good we ordered another. They were served with cocktail sauce topped with extra horse radish, what appeared to be a sweet rice wine vinegar based sauce which was so good, and another sauce made with soy sauce, maybe some oyster sauce, and what tasted like a hint of sesame oil. It was good, but loved the sweet sauce. We finished our meal with the Praline Cheesecake. Oh my gosh it was good. Don't go there and pass on their deserts. They are so good! We also ordered a Turtle Fudge Brownie to take home. Haven't eaten this one, but we've had one before and they are very good. Again, don't pass on the desert. The service was superb. Very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. I was very impressed with his menu knowledge and ability to offer appropriate items based on the comments I made. I have trained many servers over the years. This server should be very proud of his performance. If I was to give one bit of advice, it would be to never ask a quest if they want their drink refilled if it comes with complementary refills. Assume they want a refill and do so quickly and quietly. Beers were even 1/2 the price of restaurants in used too (visiting from California). We had an appetizer- fried alligator- tastes like chicken lol. The breading was a little spicey but good. I want to start off by saying that the crème brûlée, chocolate martini, and shrimp and crawfish fondeaux were really delicious. If you go here, I highly recommend trying them! For entrées, I have had some salmon dish with sautéed spinach and the Jumbo Shrimp Brochette, and neither one was worth the price. They just weren't that good. Maybe I just haven't found the right entrée, but I wasn't enamored with either, so I have not been back since as I don't want to spend a lot of money on a mediocre seafood dish. It's appalling to me that they consider themselves to be Creole food like the French Quarter because they are not anything close.
