I definitely think this place is under new management as our experience this time around has been vastly different. We had gone from boarding here to using Rover, which proved really inconsistent and not good for our pups. The staff are much more helpful and provide good feedback about dog behavior. One of our dogs in particular is pretty anxious and doesn't always do well with new people or locations. While the feedback was largely the same from our initial visit, the delivery was more helpful and allowed us insight into what was going on and how we could possibly help him. We ended up going to the vet to get him some anxiety medication for the boarding visits, which seemed to really help. The only negative I'd say is not always seeing the dogs on camera. When we've paid for the camera lodges, we'd go from being able to see them to seeing them removed, then not being able to find them in any of the play areas. I'm not sure where they go during these times or if they're let out in other locations. It's more a curiosity than an actual complaint, and to be fair, I could ask. Overall, our experience here is night and day. We use them routinely when we head out of town and our pups seem happy when we drop them off and pick them up. read more

Pappy's killed my dog. She overheats easily so we asked them not to leave her outside, but to only let her out to potty and bring her back in. They admittedly forgot that and left her outside and she overheated. They called and said she was in a medical emergency and I needed to take her to the ER vet. She never bounced back. read more

After picking our dogs up from pappys, they informed us that one of the dogs had an accident in their bed and that they were washing the beds for us and would call us when it was clean. Fast forward two.....three....four days...a week. Nothing. No call. So we went up there to see about it. The woman at the front desk tells us that the beds had been destroyed and were in the dumpster. So now their story changes from "your dog had an accident and the bed is being washed" to "the bed is destroyed and we threw it out". Again, no call about this or anything. Two $100 beds just dumped with no explanation. Pappy's refuses to acknowledge their fault in this and has basically told us "whoops, sorry" with no compensation of any kind. This place is trash. If you care about your pets and your pets' things, steer clear of Pappy's. They will overcharge you and treat your dogs like garbage. read more

I wish I could give them 0 stars. Left a burn on my dog in the 48 hours he was there. Pictures attached. Absolutely no compensation or even AN APOLOGY was made, and they will not give us any information on what happened. They told us it was a "hotspot" which takes weeks to develop on a dog (he was there for 48 hours), and it is literally December. They also have ZERO vets on staff, so the "hotspot" opinion was given to us by multiple people with no vet experience and quite possibly no degrees at all. Also, when our dog was hurt we were NEVER CALLED NOR NOTIFIED IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM. Do not take your dog here; they will not care for him or her properly. read more

I just moved to the area a couple of months ago and needed a new place to groom my 13 year old Aussie cattle dog mix. I called a couple of weeks ago to book Kyra's (my dog) grooming and the new owner answered. He was very friendly and explained everything about the facility and how he just acquired it. He told me about the rates and they were reasonable. I showed up to my appointment to drop off my dog and the associate up front was very friendly and made me feel so welcome. Kristin was my dogs groomer and contacted me a couple of hours later to let me know Kyra (my dog) would be all done in 15 mins. I was surprised at how efficient and fast they were. When I came to pick her up, Kristin brought her up and told me how well everything went. Kyra looks (and smells) like a new dog! I really appreciate how accommodating and customer service/dog well-being oriented this location is. Definitely looking forward to going back! read more

I hate to write negative reviews, but I have to on this one. We're new to Texas and needed a kennel to watch our dog (who is 12) and our cat. We dropped them both off on Thursday and were greeted with friendly staff. We made it clear that we did not want our dog to participate in any free playtime with other dogs, but a small group walk would be ok. We picked them both up a few days later and everything seemed fine. We got home and I have our dog a bath and noticed a bloody bump on his back. After cleaning it off, I realized it was a puncture wound/bite. I called Pappy's to ask if they saw anything happen between our dog and other dog. The person I spoke with said she would talk to the techs and get back to me before the end of the day. Well, the day came & went and I received no call back. I proceeded to send a detailed email to Pappy's, explaining the whole situation and asking for a call or email back. I received a voicemail later in the day from a woman, apologizing for not getting back to me the day before and saying that she was going to talk to the techs and "100%" get back to me before the end of the day. Well, again, it's a day later and I still haven't heard back about the incident. I would just like an apology for what happened. Be careful with sending your pets here. I brought my dog to get groomed here for so long. I would request a day when a specific groomer was working because I liked how they cut her hair. Eventually the past 3 times I have noticed it was not the groomer I was requesting. The first time I thought maybe they just got busy or were trying to train a new groomer and was bummed out but I understood. The second time I asked for them to pluck her ear hairs really well and they didn't even pluck them. The third and last time this past month was a completely different cut, a groom job I could have done myself. I am disappointed and if you're considering getting your dog groomed here, I wouldn't make the same mistake I did! Very friendly staff up in the front though. After having a nightmare experience leaving my dogs with someone I found on Rover.com, I am extremely anxious to leave my dogs anywhere to be boarded. I found Pappys after moving to Fort Worth, and I have boarded my 2 dogs here twice now, once at Christmas and once while on vacation at the beach. Both times they were cared for with love and attention by competent, knowledgable staff. They have a lot of options for kennel size when boarding. The first time I opted for the Hound Hotel with the webcam to put my mind at ease. He second time I chose the same kennel without the webcam. I opted for the doggy day care twice/day during their stay, and I was able to watch them having fun playing with all the other dogs while they were there. It really put my mind at ease. Also, their grooming services are excellent. Most importantly the staff here are incredible. I had really specific instructions for feeding one of my dogs who is overweight, and they fully accommodated her diet needs and seemed happy to do so. The doggy report cards are a nice touch, they give me assurance that my fur babies are being given attention. I drive 45 minutes each way to board my dogs here and pass several other kennels to come here. Their prices are reasonable and they offer savings if you buy combined services. read more

Today was Maverick's 1st full day of puppy daycare. I didn't think it'd be hard, but him trying to follow me out then him watching me through the door as I drove off made me sad.. must be the pregnancy He did so well though! He's a rescue with a lot of anxiety and he's super fearful of people.. like, everyone but me. I was told he was pretty timid at first, but once he got into general population, he played non stop all day with the other dogs.. now he's home, ate his food right away, laying down in his cage all worn out not making a sound Glad I could give him a day of fun instead of being in his kennel all day.. then on top of it all, when I went to pick him up I was told his first full day is FREE. Basically this post is to say I highly recommends this place. The employees are so sweet and they are also amazing at grooming. read more

I used Pappy's Roanoke for almost 3 years but over the last year, the care has declined significantly. Most recently, I boarded my 2 girls. I paid for daycare each day for both. While I was gone, I looked in and saw that for 2 of the 4 days, my little girl was still kenneled. I called before 1000 am and asked to ensure I had daycare on her plan and they confirmed. But she was left in her kennel the second day, all day again. My big girl was bitten on the third day in the morning. They called to let me know and asked if I wanted to get her checked out. Of course I did. I got a phone call saying my vet was closing so they would have to go elsewhere and I would get a call with an update. I never received a call. I had to call the next day to get the update - but not good information. I had to make another call because my friend picked them up from Pappy's so they wouldn't be stuck there til 5pm. When she got them home, she called me to let me know they were home. When I asked about the paperwork regarding Bella's bite wound, she said she didn't receive anything on it, not even the pain medication I was told she was given. When I called back, they told me they have 3 medications for Bella and the paperwork for her wound care. I had to go back to pick it up since they could not get it to me until the next day. I emailed the manager of the clinic on 12/17/17 and have still not heard anything back from him. I would not go back to this facility again. read more

I sincerely wanted to love Pappy's. I had read a few reviews ahead of time that gave me pause, but a) you can't trust everything you read on the interwebs (there's always that *one* person), and b) when we got to Pappy's, I saw that the facility was amazing. Really spacious, fun play yard, friendly employees, etc. I had high hopes. We boarded our 1 1/2 year old dog there for 2 weeks over the holidays. We didn't hear from them and assumed everything was fine. Fast forward to after we got home: I could tell he didn't feel great (bathroom habits were odd) so we took him to the vet. They did a urine test on him and said, "Now, it's pretty rare to see a male dog this young have a urinary tract infection, but we'll check anyway just to be safe." The test came back with such a high bacteria count, the vet was shocked. He has a "substantial" UTI (if 5 bacteria on the slide indicates infection, he had 50+) - something we will pay close to $200 to treat (on top of the incurred boarding fees). I don't know if he wasn't let out often enough, if they didn't notice he wasn't using the bathroom when he was, or what - but, needless to say, I am very disappointed. Never have I had such a horrid Experience. Taking my dog here. This was our first time using a boarding facility. I called to make arrangements for my dog to stay for spring break. When speaking to the person who answered the phone I was told that my dog would be in a crate that had a camera so i could see him, he would have play time and lots of interaction with other dogs and people where there would be camera's. When I get here to drop off my dog today I was told he would be in a dog run and 3 times a day he would be taken out to potty 15 min 3 times a day. I was like wait, he is not going to be out most of the day? Well if you want to pay for day care it's 10$ for half a day and 15$ for full day and then when i asked about the cameras for the crates I was told those are reserved and are 10$ a day. When I asked well what kind of attention does the dog get during the day, I was told when the kennels are cleaned and the dogs are fed. I was so shocked after all this, totally not what was represented on phone. When asked if I could see where he'd be staying I was told No. Needless to say I was able to find another place and took my boy out of there. Plus it looks like a prison. I think the thing that was most frustrating was obviously I was upset about all this, (we were on our way OOT for spring break) it would have been nice to have had a manager come and speak to me, and something to be done to ease the anxiety of this situation (again my dog had never boarded and this was going to be 10days) Thank goodness I was able to find another place that the dogs play outdoors all day with cameras out side and inside kennels for much less money. read more

We were charged $75 for a dog "spa bath" that is listed at $40. When we asked why we were told "that's just what the groomers charge." When we asked to speak with the groomers we were told "they can't come speak with you right now but they'll take $10 off." We still can't figure out how they think they can almost double the listed price. The manager of this location also tried to charge us for 2 extra days of daycare while our dog was boarded there and we had to argue that as well. I like that this company has cameras and I can look in on my dog, but I don't like the pricing practices and high staff turnover. We'll be looking for a new company to board our dog with. read more

After a bad experience at my last groomer, I was nervous to take my Yorkshire Terrier to be groomed, but I'm not too talented and he was looking scraggly and uneven. Meeting Casey at Pappy's in Roanoke was AMAZING! He immediately scooped up my little one and cuddled him while he listened to me describe how I wanted him cut and went over my pictures and notes with patience and seemed like he really cared. He was also very quick. I had him back in 90 minutes and he looked AMAZING! I was thrilled and could not be happier! We boarded our 60 pound boxer for 6 days over Christmas. I opted for three days of daycare and dremel of his nails, otherwise the cost for the second to largest kennel was completely reasonable. The only other facility we've used was Petshotel and it was Ok, they do little to interact and there are no outdoor play areas. I paid a lot at Petshotel, more than the rate at Pappy's and again, just ok. Pappy's seemed to fare well for our dog. He was happy when we picked him up. The only two minor complaints I have are 1. He smelled stinky, thinking I should have opted for a bath day of pick up. I'm sure there's a lot of dog slobber and just smell of kennel for 6 days. We bathed him up and he's good as new! 2. He had three areas on his ear where another, not so well behaved pup, seems to have used his ear as a chew toy. After a week, they are all healed and good. None were huge, but a little irritated. We needed to leave our sweet Australian Shepherd, Lincoln, at Pappy's for a week and were apprehensive at first. The moment we walked in the door we were greeted by friendly and knowledgeable staff. The premises were well taken care of and provided a great deal of activities and attention for our pup. This removed all worry! Even with people he knows, after being away from home for several days he loses his appetite and will become a bit sad. This was not the case at Pappy's!! When we picked up our Lincoln he was happy and his report said that he had eaten well for every meal! Thank you for the great experience! We will absolutely return! read more

I am the mom of a large male GSD/Malamute mix. I am always hesitant to board him anywhere because of his (and my) separation anxiety. The staff at Pappy's Pet Lodge went above and beyond to help both my pup and I feel safe and supported. They patiently waited while I sat in the kennel to comfort him and they came up with solutions to help my boy feel secure during his overnight stay (e.g. blankets, extra space, etc). They even gave me a couple of the staff's personal phone numbers just in case I saw something during the night that made me uneasy on the kennel cameras. Although my boy wasn't happy with being left anywhere without mom, he was clearly safe and protected during his sleep over. I am extremely grateful to the staff who were so understanding of my concern for my pup's wellbeing, and their willingness to accommodate both of us. Thank you to Pappy's Pet Lodge of Roanoke TX! This review is for the daycare service at Pappys and this occurred in May. I should have written this sooner but I'm just now getting around to it. My husband and I wanted to make sure our puppy would be socialized and decided taking him to daycare would be a great way to do that. I did plenty of research on daycares in the area and after much deliberation we decided on Pappys. I spoke to someone who was able to answer my questions and concerns,my biggest concern was making sure he was not around big dogs. This was the first time he would be around other dogs so we were obviously nervous. We took him there a total of three times. The first two times we took him there everything was great. It was the third and final time that we had issues. Like I mentioned earlier I did not want him around larger dogs. The last time we took him there I checked the webcam and noticed the group he was with had significantly larger dogs than him. That worried me so I started to check the webcam more frequently and noticed another dog starting to hump my dog. Look I get it they're dogs, humping is normal. What bothered me was the lack of anyone trying to stop the behavior maybe that's because they were too busy looking at their phone. So same dog keeps harassing my dog next thing I notice one of the larger dogs who is at least 70 lbs is trying to hump my 14lb dog by getting on his back. I immediately call them and ask them to either remove my dog or the humpers from the group because this was not ok. They said "sure not a problem". They did absolutely nothing. How do I know? Because of the webcams! Seriously you know I can see what's going on yet you do nothing?!? I was infuriated. I immediately had my husband go pick him up from there and we have never taken him back. I emailed the management at Pappys that day to address my concerns about what happened and to this day they have yet to respond. They made it very clear they did not care about my dogs wellbeing or my concerns and for that reason they get one star. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE!!!! I left specific instructions for my two bulldogs and the people working didn't follow them at all. When I picked up my two boys, they were stained in pee, broken out in hot spots, and one of my dogs' gps tracker was completely destroyed along with both of my dogs' collars. The owner told me to give him a week to figure it out and he never got back to me!! I constantly called asking to speak to him and every-time there was an excuse. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE!! Very disappointed in the care my dog received during his 4 days of boarding, which was unfortunate and unexpected because this place has great reviews. They put my large dog in a kennel that was half the size of the one that I originally booked, which I never would've even known until I called and requested he be moved to one with a webcam (which I also requested when I initially booked, and these things were reiterated and confirmed not only over the phone but also in writing multiple times). Then when I would check on him on the webcam, I noticed he only had water available about half the time, and there were two times that I noticed he had puked a bunch of bile in his kennel and it wasn't cleaned up for 4-5+ hours. I was wondering why he would be puking like that, until I picked him and all his stuff up and received two containers of food back. I packed exactly enough food for his stay, individually packaged and labelled for easy feeding, plus a note that wrote out when he needed to be fed - I couldn't have made it more clear (or so I thought). This means he skipped meals on 2 of the 4 days he was boarded, which explains the puking bile ("hunger pukes"). Imagining my poor boy watching all the other dogs get fed and being skipped over, then being so hungry he gets hunger pukes, then having to live in a kennel with multiple piles of puke for 4+ hours just breaks my heart. He also smelled SO. BAD. There are no words strong enough to describe how terrible he smelled. I had to give him a bath the second we got home and he made my car smell for days - even after deep cleaning, the smell lingered. He still didn't stop smelling until I gave him a second bath. I used to work as a kennel tech, so I understand my dog isn't going to come home smelling like roses after being boarded, but this was extreme. I also understand that dogs can develop different behaviors in boarding that don't happen at home, but for my dog to smell so badly, not only did he had to have had multiple accidents in his kennel - which is very out of character for him - he also would've had to have lived in it for a significant amount of time before it was cleaned up. I even requested and paid for multiple one on one play sessions each day on top of his regular potty breaks, so either these accidents and pukes were just ignored when someone came to take him out of his kennel throughout the day, or he wasn't actually getting the services I paid for. On top of all of this, when I asked how he did, the answer was that he did great and ate well (ironic considering he wasn't actually fed 2 out of the 4 days he was there), no mention of the puking or any indication that he was anxious or having excessive accidents (or else I would've paid for more play sessions). The only positive experience I had was that the receptionists were friendly, but I'd rather have dealt with rude receptionists if it meant my dog actually got the care I was promised he would get. read more

I absolutely love pappys. I worked there for bout a year and a half and had a great experience. I had alot experience working with dogs but they taught me so much more. The people I worked with, care about the dogs and take care of them as they were their own dogs. They take care of more than dogs, like cats and I didn't have much experience with cats until I worked there. Unfortunately I had to leave, it was hard cause I felt like i was family there. The employee's there know what there doing and I trust them to keep my dogs there. And the master groomer there, is outstanding. She's one of the nicest people there and an experienced groomer. What I loved most was the yards. They are so big and my dogs love to run around and soak in the sun. I would recommend pappys to anyone that asks me bout them. read more

I left my dogs in 2018. When they returned home the dogs have been throwing up clear liquid dry heaving and choking. The dogs were fine before I dropped them off and they have never had these symptoms before. I called the pet lodge and they will get back with me in a day or two. I wish there could be zero stars. This place is NOT SAFE FOR ANIMALS. We boarded our dog there for 12 days. Picked her up and you can see her spine and ribs she has lost so much weight ( she is 1/2 mastiff and was always slightly stocky) her " report card" says she ate all of her food ( no way) she was filthy, covered in small scratches and scabs I discovered as I was scrubbing her clean in the shower- her tail was bleeding and spraying blood on my walls as she wagged it. The staff " couldn't find her bed" even though we paid for a 4x 12 room for to be in alone... how do you lose a huge dog bed? Our sweet gentle dog lunged at and attacked our senior ( 15 year old) dog for apparently no reason and she hasn't stopped sleeping since we got her home. I'm taking her to the vet to have her checked out this afternoon. These people clearly did not care for my dog while I was gone. Absolutely do not board your dog here. read more

My 4 babies (Chelsea, Lita, Knela & Thor) went to Pappy's on Christmas for 14 days because we were out of town. We contacted them 3 weeks in advance, they gave me a tour and a couple days later they gave my husband another tour. We liked the place so we booked the reservation. The drop off process was very quick and easy. They did inventory of our stuff and gave us time to say goodbye. We called every day and they were very attentive and explained how our dogs were doing. They sent us pictures twice. Thor was shy and they took the time and patience to let him warm up. The girls did great! The pick up process was really quick and easy. We LOVED the report cards they gave us. The staff is amazing!! Definitely will use them in the future. read more

They were great with my dog and he loved it there. They told me when I picked him up that evening that he had fleas and couldn't come back until they were gone. So, I went and had it taken care of over the weekend so he could go back on Monday and when we got there they did an EXTREMELY thorough check and only found ONE flea and sent us away. We have had two wonderful experiences with Pappy's Pet Lodge so far this summer. Our dog Roxy loved playing outside on REAL grass when the weather was nice. There were lots of new dog pals for her to hang out with. The faciltiy is clean- they take real pride in that and it shows! All the staff members are professional and truly love taking care of all their special guests. Roxy ran into the office when we dropped her off and couldn't wait to get to the Day Camp area to see her buddies. She was walked each day and had treat time, too. Clint e-mailed us pictures of Roxy during her stay so we could see how she was doing. I also give two thumbs up to their grooming staff! Roxy looked fabulous-her fur was so soft and she smelled great- even a week later! Wow! Roxy will be staying at Pappy's at the end of this month during our last vacation. I used a Groupon to board my three dogs last night. I was very impressed with the facilities and the staff. The staff took several minutes upon check-in to get acquainted with each of my dogs and to make them feel comfortable, rather than just taking them straight to the back, like most places I have boarded my dogs. The manager, Trey, actually sat on the floor with my golden retriever, talked to her, and waited for her to calm down so he could pet her. My shy blue heeler, Molly, actually licked one of the female employees in the face, which gave me a good feeling about leaving my dogs there. I opted to have Molly bathed, and I took my other two dogs home while they finished getting her ready. When I arrived to pick Molly up, she was behind the counter, "hanging out" with Trey. I can tell that the employees at Pappy's genuinely enjoy their jobs and care about the pets boarded there. The prices are competitive, and I will definitely bring my dogs here again! read more

If I had any complaint it would be that my dogs always come home smelling like a kennel real bad and require a bath right away when they come home. Shaved me dog without notifying me at all, showed up and she was shaved. I even contacted the manager about a refund via email and nothing. The groomer also referred to my dog as the wrong breed. The best is they charged me five dollars more to shave her!! Groomers do not know their designer breeds and are rude. read more

The Roanoke facility treats our "rowdy" boys as family members. We have been visiting the kennel since the location opened and our boys continue to look forward to their time with their extended kennnel family. The package value is reasonable, the groomer (when we arrange it) takes time to ensure the boys look fantastic, and the extra one:one time ensures sufficient daily exercise occurs. I used the grooming service on August 27th. They met with me a head of time and had me fill out a ton of forms for just grooming. It seemed they were very organized. The grooming they did on my Havanese was marginal. She has several hot spots from the very short trimming which is not a problem I had with my previous groomer. It looks like they just used the clipper and continued shaving. Her face is very short and very unevenly trimmed on one side to the point where it is noticeable. They never asked me if I was happy, which given the various forms before starting is surprising. I did advise them I keep her shorter in the summer, but they are the professionals and should know not to go too short where she looks like a rat terrier instead of a Havanese.
