I love this place!!! The onion rings and ranch are heaven!!! With the perfect ranch!!! To die for. I got FOMO rings on Thursdays as I was driving home to the Bay Area. I came back again for a late breakfast and this place was packed. I had to park on the street next to Starbucks. I was careful this time not to get overcharged on my breakfast. I ended up ordering some egg whites, sausage with Hashbrowns, coffee. I had great service. My only gripe was my server didn't check on me enough to request more hot sauce and napkins. I opted instead to get up to wash my hands, but the restroom was always occupied. At first I thought it was out of order, but someone was in there taking a very long time. Ambiance: Busy with your normal cling, clang of forks spoons hitting the plate of an old fashioned diner. Food was excellent. Today was an off day. I always wanted to have breakfast here. The outside is so cute and appealing as you get into town. The inside is retro-vintage, pretty darn cute with big windows. Coffee is good, smooth, doesn't have the bite of Starbucks, it's more bold and smooth, you can drink it black without making a face. The breakfast burrito is big. Cream of wheat is good but wish there were sliced almonds. The sourdough toast would have been better if it was toasted instead of slightly warmed. It took a long time to get our check, the servers' back was to the dining room for 10 minutes while she filled condiment bottles and waited for an order. If you you are looking for plenty of good food for the prices these days, this is the place. I ordered the chef salad and half an order of onion rings. Salad was crisp and had a lot of ham and turkey. I could not eat it all. Half an order is 6 huge homemade onion rings, like an inch and a half thick. Batter in them was excellent. Margie's is a classic diner attached to a Best Western motel. The classic 60's architecture had us guessing that it used to be a Howard Johnson's back in the day. We had breakfast there 2 days. It was our favorite b'fast place in Paso Robles. The place is super clean, the staff was very friendly. the breakfast selections covered the entire range of breakfast options. I had the club sandwich with those ginormous onion rings. I was only able to order this one meal from Margie's Restaurant, as I was staying at a nearby hotel and I was googling nearby restaurants. I ordered my sandwich to go to enjoy back at my room. I can't speak for anything else on the menu as this sandwich was so big for me, I ate it for 3 meals. I definitely would have gone back to try something else on the menu, but my stay was cut short. So, please people, let's keep these small MOM & POP RESTAURANTS in business. When I come back and sometimes I literally just go somewhere just to eat there, I will definitely go back to this restaurant again. Saturday evening and I'm craving a burger and fries ? Well I wasn't sure where to go for that burger , my sister suggested Margies diner I thought I haven't been there in at least 3 years I said ok. Let's give it a try . It was not very busy so we sat ourselves in a booth our waitress came right over gave us menus , we both ordered the cheese burger with fries and a side of their onion rings. Onion rings came out first they looked so delicious , they were large thick onion rings coating was very light and crispy , they served it with a side of reach dressing Loooved them , waitress then brought us our burgers they were large just enough melted cheese and fresh lettuce tomatoes and onions. Margie's has great food, great customer service, and busy with customers. It has that 50s diner feel with pictures of Elvis, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, along with others. There's plenty of options for breakfast (served all day), lunch and dinner. We went for breakfast but have also had dinner before. On this visit we ordered lunch, a bacon cheese burger w/onion rings, and a burger club sandwich w/fries. We just beat the crowd, (weekends are busier specially after 10:30am) we were greeted by the friendly hostess and seated right away. Drink orders were taken, all the employees were running around checking all the tables efficiently and with smiles. Both our meals were delicious and the burger/sandwich patties were juicy! Fries were crunchy, along with the onion rings, you can hear that crunch of the batter from the first bite and perfectly paired with ranch. I was in the mood for a diner style restaurant while passing through Paso Robles. This was a highly rated spot and I wanted to give it a try. It is hard to explain, but the food tasted "real" and of a high quality. It was very delicious. I got the avocado, mushroom, and cheese omelette; tasty and filling. My friend got the chili verde omelette with beans on the side and that looked incredible. It was great food that hit the spot. Update: I left a generous tip in the 20%-25% range. When the final charge was posted to my credit card, it appears they helped themselves to an extra dollar.... No where was it mentioned there was a credit card fee or any sort of fees. So not sure why they added an extra dollar. I want to believe it was purely an accident without bad intentions, but this is the first time this has ever happened and it does not leave a good taste in my mouth. read more
