So far, this is my favorite plant shop! I love walking around aimlessly, allowing my eyes to wander wherever and whatever catches my eye. The colors alone get me excited, a tingle inside my body, that feeds my creative soul. When I see the different pots and displays, the plants, the terrariums, I'm in my own world and I am in love with it. I can't help but purchase a plant or two or three. The people there are so friendly and helpful, it's just good vibes each time I go there. My most recent visit, I was well intentioned to walk away with a maidenhair fern. I've always admired it at my acupuncturist's place, but never been a fern gal. But I'm in my new era, of plant refinement, not collecting plants, but only selecting those that I cannot be without in my collection. I love my new maidenhair fern! She's ethereal!

Super cute plant shop right on 4th street! Perfect place to browse for some new plants. They had so many varieties to choose from. The store is two stories and the second story contained all pet friendly plants! The associates are all very friendly and welcoming. Everyone greeted me with friendly smiles and asked if I needed assistance. The store not only sells plants but also supplies and cute decor! A plus is that it is dog friendly too!

I found this amazing plant store while exploring downtown Berkeley and it was a true find. The studio drew me in from the sidewalk with all of the lush foliage framing the entrance. The whole store is an amazing organized jungle and I loved that the sections with varying light also labeled which plants strive in these light zones. Upstairs, they have a collection of pet sage plants! As a cat owner I really appreciated this. In addition to plants, they have other fun items like claw clips. I found a rainbow trout one which is so unique I had to buy it! The staff were really friendly and nice and even gave some propagations.

What a wonderful place with gorgeous plants and pots, and gift ideas! The bonus is if you buy a pot and plant, they will pot it for you (tip optional). I also had help on where to place it and what size pot to get to make it fit in my space. I didn't venture upstairs but there are pet friendly plants for sale. Look for Peet's Coffee on 4th Street and it's a few doors down.

Had to, had to, HAD to update my review because - WOW! Paraíso has expanded to an even bigger location. So happy that they took over the palatial Markethall Foods on 4th street location, not far from their secondary location on 4th. This new location gives the plants (and customers) more room to breathe and, yes, grow. The locations usual selections of pottery and vessels is more comfortably housed even though they no longer have an upstairs space. Paraíso is one of the most beautifully merchandised plant shops in The Bay, makes you wanna just go in and bask in the lush tropical feel. Maria and her team are so informative, helpful and have literally and truly become a cornerstone of 4th street. If you're looking to repot, they got you. Looking to find a new vessel, they got you. Veteran plant parents or newbies- come thru. It's one of the best plant lover spots to go. Prices are great for the selection, and range of options. Ask every plant question imaginable and they can help you. You gotta see this new location.

Such a cute plant shop in downtown Berkeley! Paraíso Plant Studio has an incredible selection of plants, all neatly sectioned off by type, making it easy to browse. They carry everything from common houseplants to rare finds, so whether you're a beginner or a seasoned plant parent, there's something for you. The shop itself is two stories, giving it a spacious and inviting feel. While the prices are on the higher side, even for more common plants, you can tell they take excellent care of their inventory--every plant looked healthy and well-maintained. The employees were also super helpful and always available to answer any questions I had. If you're in the area and love plants, it's definitely worth a visit!

This store feels so good. Someone here has a great sense of design. The selection of plants is diverse and exciting. The plants are in such good condition. The staff are kind and helpful. This music is good. The store is queer-owned and so thoughtfully organized. There's even a second floor with all pet-friendly plants!

The staff here is the most helpful and welcoming I've encountered in any store especially as I have a brown thumb and need the advice!

This is the most beautiful place for a date or just an afternoon alone. Both outdoor and indoor…read moreplants can be found here. There is a coffee stand and plenty of areas to sit and read. I love the gift shop as well. There are artisan crafts that will make the perfect gift or addition to your home. Staff is fun and helpful as well. Please see the photos below. Pricing is above average for a higher end product across the board. There are sometimes pop ups here as well like Japanese street food or dessert in the afternoon and early evening.

As a customer of Flowerland for several years, writing the following brings me no joy. I was there…read morethe other day and saw a pair of gauntlet gloves. There was no price. I asked; the woman behind the counter looked it up and answered: $42. That seemed a bit expensive, so I checked online. While checking, the same woman comes over, sits down next to me, and asks, "Can I tell you something? Small business can't compete with Harbor Freight," then gets up and leaves. First, her statement to me was incredibly condescending. I'm almost 60 years old and know how businesses large and small work. She didn't need to scold me like I'm 5 years old. (FYI, Harbor Freight doesn't even sell any gauntlet gloves.) Did she honestly think she'd either guilt or shame me into buying their gloves? Did she think that was a good tactic to engender customer loyalty? Second, I'm all for -- and do -- support local businesses, even if it means paying a little bit more. As I said initially, I've been a customer of Flowerland's for several years. In general, if an item seems expensive, I check online not only to compare price, but to read reviews, in this case, for the particular brand of gloves. If an item has 4- and 5-star reviews, perhaps it's worth the extra price and I have made such purchases in the past. I've certainly knowingly paid more for their 1-gallon plants averaging around $22 whereas I know that many places sell 1-gallon plants for around $15. Third, in this case, this particular brand of gloves was about four times the typical cost of other gauntlet gloves I saw online. As I said, sometimes I'm willing to pay more to support a local business, but that does not mean I'm willing to do so unconditionally at any price -- especially for things like gloves that, no matter how good quality they are, will eventually wear out. Gloves are disposable, commodity items. (The seams at the fingertips are always the first part to wear out.) If that woman is independently wealthy, works at Flowerland just for fun, and pays any price any small business asks, well good for her. Some of us, myself included, are retired and are living off savings. From now on, I'll stick to Berkeley Hort, Orchard Nursery, and others where I have never been condescended to by any member of staff. Oh, and Berkeley Hort's plant prices tend to be better anyway.
