The home is spotless and presents itself with a warm homey atmosphere but packed with wonderful museum quality items at every turn. Guy was so kind to give us a grand tour and Clelia prepared a lovely breakfast with consideration to ALL of our dietary requirements. We stayed four nights in the Wilson room and were quite comfortable. The antique furnishings are sturdy and well-kept and the room was spotlessly clean. Highway traffic noise was evident on this side of the house, but I am sure the house was here long before the highway. Traffic noise does not bother me in the least, but if it bothers you ask for a room on a different side of the house. Beautiful historic home, gracious hosts, antique furnishings, and delicious breakfasts. What more could you ask for? We would definitely stay here again and recommend to our friends! I would recommend a pull chain extension on the ceiling fan light.

One of our party has celiac disease, and Ellen was gracious enough to supply not only gluten-free breakfast options, but also to bake up some gluten-free peanut butter cookies as one of her afternoon treats. Cat lovers will be pleased to make the acquaintance of the sociable household cats. People allergic to cats will be pleased to know that none of the cats are allowed into the private rooms. One of our party is allergic to cats, and had no significant trouble from cat dander. (However, pollen was plentiful in the region, so be aware of environmental problems.) My favorite part of the inn was the screened back porch, providing sunshine, fresh air, and plenty of bird watching opportunities with three separate feeders around the porch. So peaceful and pleasant! I highly recommend The Wilderness.

Ellen sent very detailed instructions through email well before our check in time that detailed everything we needed to know. When we walked in, there were delicious homemade gluten free pecan squares waiting (Ellen asks for specific dietary restrictions when booking and she obviously takes them to heart!). The Sullivan suite is a great size with a comfy queen bed and sitting room. We loved the old furniture pieces and the overall antique feel of the whole house. Before checkout, Ellen made a wonderful homemade breakfast. It was exactly what we needed for a relaxing weekend! We will definitely keep The Wilderness in mind for future getaways.

They had a small lot and our car, with belongings, were safe. Upon arriving we were worried what the place would look like inside. It was very nice. We were also happy to see that they had an elevator. We were warmly greeted and shown our room. The room was very clean. The bathroom was large and appeared to be marble or at least, very good stone. We had a jacuzzi and a separate shower. It was difficult maneuvering the jacuzzi as the faucets and knobs were very unique. The refrig and microwave were in the closet. We didn't find it until my husband went down to look for the fridge with complimentary water! Breakfast was very good. You ordered the night before and there were no mistakes. Breakfast alone was worth upwards of $10 each. The fruit was good and both our omelettes as well. I had the egg white and my husband - usual omelette. We shared a waffle. There was a Keurig and water available all day. We enjoyed our stay and walked into Fells Point - not a short walk (1 mile or so) but when eating fresh ice cream from the oldest market (that just opened) a walk was necessary!

The highlight of our trip!…read more A few things I must point out, the Yelp description for The Wayside Inn is now under new ownership. Susan & David are no longer the propitiators. I met the owner, an unassuming man in the kitchen and shook his hand when I left. Joe is the manager and greeted us when we arrived on Saturday. I told him we have dinner and concert plans and would be back late. He gave us a through tour on how to use the fancy coffee maker, how to use the jacuzzi tub (we didn't us it) as well as the robes. What struck me the most was the branding. The robes as well as the beautiful coffee mugs all had a wonderful logo. Once we took our belongings out and settled into the room, we decided to enjoy the outdoors. My wife grabbed a beautiful blanket and we went outside on the roof deck. We're just taking it all in, I had a bottle of Napa Valley wine I brought from home for us to enjoy, it was really picture perfect. The actual inn is over 200 years old, one of the historic homes in Maryland now made for my enjoyment. Did General Washington sleep here? Inquiring minds want to know! The staircase was truly a sight to see. Made from wood, they crafted these beautiful wooden turns to the upstairs. Creaky wood? Sure. It gives the inn a comfortable charm. Our bedroom had a magnificent sleigh bed and the sheets? Joe was explaining to my wife the thread count. I'm a guy, I was tuning it all out, haha! After a comfortable night sleep, I woke up early. I'm an early riser, I made myself a great cup of coffee and went downstairs to read my book. The sitting area with it's beautiful furnishings, it's a welcoming room. Everything is meticulously cared for, it was a pleasure to have this moment alone and take it all in. After an hour, I went upstairs and took a shower. We have 8:30am breakfast reservations, I want to get on the road to beat the traffic. We were served a French toast bake, absolutely divine. When staying at any B&B, the shower products as well as the food should be top notch. Staying at the local Marriott doesn't give you the same experience. After breakfast my wife made us Dove Hot Chocolates as we packed up. I highly recommend The Wayside Inn. From the quaint accommodations to the fab breakfast, I thank you making our stay special.

This beautiful B&B by the Chesapeake Bay offers so many opportunities throughout the day for a calm…read moreand relaxing stay by the water -- from sitting by the river while watching the daybreak, to swimming in the pool while watching the moonrise, and everything in between. There are plenty of lounge and rocking chairs throughout the property to just read a book under a tree or rock yourself to sleep. There's a respectable-sized pool outdoor overlooking the river (with a diving board at the deep end), and a spa and sauna indoor. The larger room (Holly and Ivy) is 2-rooms connected together and out to the balcony with clothes line to help dry your clothes after your water adventures. The children's tale-themed rooms are decorated with family belongings and heirloom (e.g., the Blue Willow room was the owner's daughter's room), so you feel right at home. Some of our family members stayed in beds in the library downstairs surrounded by old and newer books next an antique desk and yes, a spinning wheel. Around the corner there is a pier with a bench on a floating dock tied to it. Night time is magical, with or without the moon and stars, and you can just watch the boat or house lights on the river side glitter over the water. There is no A/C, but honestly, the breeze -- even during the summer where it's 90-100 degrees elsewhere -- provides enough natural coolant that you may only need the fans, which are provided in the rooms. Robin, the friendly and accommodating owner, is always ready with a quick smile and a story about the history of the family or house. Common sense rules are posted for enjoyment of all (quiet hours observed after 11pm, tie the boat by the shed, care to be taken with the fragile bathroom system, etc.) The farm has Pixie the goat and the 2 sheep (who have gone viral with their own video!) along with chickens and ducklings and Pete the sweet dog (with his own police record!) and a cat who just roam about the property. Eggs from the farm are abundant and the owner encouraged us to cook and eat them lest they get spoiled. The town with groceries (Giant, Safeway), with restaurants and fast food (Arby's, Saigon Palace, and the Chesapeake Seafood with their superfresh seafood among others) are about a 15 min drive north, so this place is both secluded and convenient. If there were any drawback, there are mostly related to the water-sport area as some gears felt a bit worn (there's some "old ignored Chesapeake" feel to it), e.g., it would help to have more adult-sized comfortable life vest and more 2-paddle oars (to match the number of seats on the kayaks/boats if all boats are to be used). The greenhouse area where the sauna and spa is also just that -- a greenhouse, with tools lying around (don't expect a lavish steam room) -- but to me, these add to the charm of this down-to-earth B&B that makes it feel closer to home. The 1921 B&B history book mentioned spiritual entities (a white dog, a lady in black) but during our stay they didn't manifest themselves or being bothersome (they were all part of the ancestral family of the owner after all) -- It's actually made the stay a bit exciting and Robin told some of the historical stories quite light heartedly, which is appreciated. A dreamy and memorable stay in this fantastic historic place, with a super friendly host and beautiful view all around.
