    flying into 2019 like... #doorsoff

WHAT A WAY TO SPEND THE FIRST DAY OF 2019! I purchased a heli ride for my S.O. as a Christmas gift, because experiences are greater than things, am I right?! So thankfully I booked the afternoon flight because it was NYE the day prior after all and it took me all five hours from the time I woke up until we stepped into the helicopter to get over my hangover, just in the nick of time! Plus, they also offer ginger candies in the office which helps if you get motion sickness. I normally don't but didn't want to take any chances in my compromised state. This was both of our first helicopter rides and I couldn't have asked for a smoother, more incredible experience than we had with these guys. From booking to the time we touched down, everyone was friendly, professional, competent, and capable, and I especially loved Fiona, the resident dog who came through the office doors wearing the same company shirt as the rest of the staff! Our pilot was Kai and we got to ride shotgun with him on our DOORS OFF flight (guys, do yourself a favor and do it this way)! He was great at pointing out landmarks that even us as locals appreciated; we learned new things about areas and places we were familiar with. Helicopter rides are so much more peaceful than I anticipated, even though they are clearly powerful pieces of machinery not to be messed with. It was like being a bird flying around, enjoying the sights, soaring over and around the ridges of the Ko'olaus and North Shore. The vantage point from up top is truly breathtaking, and a must do for anyone on the island, local or visitor, at least once! My favorite part was navigating through the valleys and being able to see the top of Sacred Falls cascading down to the valley floor. The scale, the power, the raw beauty of it all was so special. The flight time was the perfect length and the day couldn't have been more perfect to be up in the air. Mahalo Paradise for an unforgettable and safe experience!

What incredible experience enjoying the tour by air. Only thing that I didn't enjoy was the Communication. I had set this up for my sister, girlfriend and I to have private experience due COVID we wanted to enjoy without being being like sardines in bus or any other place that was crowded. Upon arrival we where excited to experience something that we couldn't imagine but it was one of the Bucket list that we wanted to do. We were never told that we would be having a guest on our tour. I was speechless that plane that we all going to be in we can fit five people this including the pilot. I did the research that we only can fit four people. The value of the price that I paid for this tour be private went out the door. What happened to Covid regulations? I felt very uncomfortable that my girlfriend was going to be seated with a stranger which I wasn't notified by the staff if this would have bought to my attention I won't never agree. We all like sardines in small helicopter. I don't appreciate it that but what I can say. The pilot was very communicative and paid great attention to everything. If you had any questions he would answer them. I try to contacting the company after but because of the weekend and timing I didn't express my thoughts. I highly recommended if you booked a tour make sure you know if someone is going to be joining your party specially your female. You don't know who is next you.

Can't say enough of what a great experience this was. Magnum Pi experience doors off with landing was a thrill. Meghan at the front desk was really friendly, knowledgable and gave a short presentation. Our pilot Josh was extremely cool too. I've flown a few other choppers but his skills in the air are unmatched. You both rock

The ULTIMATE "Oahu Magnum Experience"! ALL DOORS OFF, LAND OUT! The Most Memorable part of our vacation! PARADISE HELICOPTERS, Turtle Bay Resort, Kahuku, HI! We finally got to book this flight of a lifetime! Last year my husband and I were coming back from the Van's Triple Crown in the North shore. We stopped in for lunch at Lei Lei's on the Golf Course at Turtle Bay Resort, when T.C.'s Chopper flew by low, we knew "The Chopper" was close by! They were booked solid, but made note it was a must book on our next visit! All I can say after finally getting to go, is it was a flight of a lifetime! This Special Hughes MD500 Magnum P.I. Replica took us full circle around the entire Oahu island! There were too many memorable moments to recite, but if you can, Touch down at their exclusive remote landing site. It has the most breathtaking coastline view from a mountain top ridge! The view from their helicopter is indescribable and a must do while visiting Oahu! SPECIAL THANKS to JOSH! You are an AMAZING Pilot! This flight experience was the highlight of our vacation and we can't wait to come back and visit you all again soon!

We had such a great flight with Paradise helicopters. Our pilot Nathan was great along with the girls running true front office. They were so helpful and nice. We did the 1 hour tour with the doors off, yes the doors off! I was hesitant at first with the doors off but so glad we did it. It was amazing and the best outing of our entire trip To see Pearl Harbor from above is unreal and something I'll never forget.

We did the Oahu Magnum Experience from Turtle Bay Resort and it was one of the most memorable experience i have ever had!! The staff at Paradise Helicopters was amazing and actually upgraded us to a Doors Off flight! This was my first time in a helicopter and the pilot made sure i felt comfortable and safe. My favorite part of the flight was when we flew thru the Ko'olau Mountains and you are literally flying thru the clouds. We saw the entire island from Pearl Harbor, Dole Pineapple Plantation, Waikiki and Diamond Head Crater along with a bunch of other great sights! Highly recommend this flight!!

If you have flying in a replica of TC's helicopter with doors off on your bucket list this is the place for you! If you don't..... maybe time to add it. Booked this flight for my boyfriends birthday gift. Was worth every penny. Calling and making the appointment the girl was awesome and so accommodating. When we arrived on the morning of the girls working there where fun, cool, and so friendly. Made sure we had negative covid test and mask on the whole time. We snapped some pics before our flight they suggested so our hair still looked good. Lol We went on a 40 min tour starting at turtle bay and south to Pearl Harbor back over the Pali. The captain knew all sorts of tidbits and sprinkled us with them. I can't explain how much I loved this experience.

    Doors off is the best!

Doors off! So fun, loved hearing Josh's take on the island and a chill ride to explore. First time ever seeing Pearl Harbor, the North Shore, Stairway to Heaven and so much more. Really appreciated Megan's vibe to keep my nervous parents calm.

The helicopter ride was worth every penny because it was an amazing experience. The entire trip was smooth sailing; it felt like riding in a car, no joke. Our pilot was super friendly, fun and very knowledgeable. He made sure everyone on the flight saw every inch of that island. The staff were very nice and accommodating. I highly recommend everyone to experience a helicopter ride when visiting Turtle Bay.

Amazing experience! Beautiful scenery! Our pilot Josh was informative and funny. We did the 40 minute valleys and waterfalls tour with the doors off. We were able to take lots of pictures, Josh made sure to circle around so everyone could get a good look at the scenery. We flew over the Pearl Harbor memorial, the Dole plantation, and several other sites. Highly recommend this experience!

Literally AWESOME! Spectacular ride over all of the key sights of O'ahu! I had no idea I could feel so safe and be so filled with viewing the amazing beauty of the sea and the mountains from so high above! it was spectacular and exciting! The Magnum helicopter is super special!

We got engaged here and have returned multiple times over the years, making countless memories. As a loyal Marriott member, I always looked forward to coming back. Unfortunately, this most recent stay left us feeling like the resort has lost the charm and hospitality that once made it so special. For the price guests pay to stay here, the experience simply does not match the cost. What stood out most was the apparent difference in how guests are treated compared to locals utilizing the pool and resort amenities. As paying resort guests, we often felt like an afterthought rather than valued customers. The pool and food service experience was particularly disappointing. The wait staff consistently came across as rude, rushed, and uninterested in providing the level of service you would expect from a luxury resort. While I don't place all the blame on the employees themselves, they appeared overworked, understaffed, and unsupported by management. When employees are not set up for success, it inevitably impacts the guest experience--and unfortunately, that's exactly what happened. Another odd aspect of the property is the collection of independent shops operating within the resort. Multiple times we were reminded that they were not affiliated with the hotel, which created a fragmented and somewhat uncomfortable experience. Rather than feeling like part of a cohesive luxury resort, it often felt like a collection of separate businesses sharing the same property. What makes this so disappointing is knowing what Turtle Bay used to be. It once had a unique, relaxed Hawaiian charm that made it worth returning to year after year. Today, it feels more like a tourist-focused revenue machine than the welcoming destination we remembered. For a resort carrying the Ritz-Carlton name and commanding premium prices, we expected much more. Sadly, after this visit, we don't feel any desire to return. It's unfortunate to say, but the memories we have from previous visits are far better than the experience we had this time around. I truly hope management takes a hard look at the guest experience and works to bring back the hospitality and character that made Turtle Bay such a special place in the first place.

Earlier that week, I had done another helicopter tour with another company that was more sedate but good as well. The day b4 my flight back to the states, I decided to give Magnum a try. I was looking for a thrilling ride that could rival skydiving (I used to skydive many years ago). This ride gave me the thrill I was looking for. It was so fun to have the doors off, be strapped in, and hear the wind rushing by. This place is very very conscientious about safety. You watch a safety briefing on a video, etc. The ground crew takes good care of you and makes sure you are strapped in well, etc. Our pilot was Josh and he made the whole trip fun. He was an excellent pilot, took us to see all the important sights, and had great banter with the passengers. You can tell he is very experienced with piloting a helicopter and very safe too. Feeling the wind blow in your face, mussing up your hair as you fly around was a lot of fun. We could bring our phones with us to take pics and videos but they had to be in a plastic bag case tethered to our wrist (case and tether is available for rent or purchase). Magnum Helicopters is also based upon the Magnum PI show. The helicopter is painted in those colors and there is a Ferrari that one can sit in (in the waiting area) and gets pics in. I am hoping to come back to Oahu later this year so I can visit the other islands. If I do, I'll be sure to come back to Magnum Helicopters to get another thrilling ride

I wrote in the time that I wanted to start which was 1230 pm. I show up at 1230 exactly and go to check in at the outpost Hut. The 2 guys inside the Hut tell me they didn't see my reservation and they rented out all their balls to a group that just came in..... So...we had to WAIT until the group was finished to get the balls to play.... On top of that, I paid $10 per person to play, and the guy in the hut tells me there's only 6 or 7 holes available since they use the course to pop fireworks off of. New years was about a week ago!! You're telling me, you're too lazy to put back the holes for a whole week?! Cmon man..... Then, I ask for a cart to put all our stuff in and he tells me that they don't rent out carts but that I could get one at the golf hut. So my mom walks all the way over to the golf hut for them to tell her that they don't rent out golf carts for soccer golf......?! So then after all of this, the guy in the outpost hut tells me he will refund me the balls we rented as a way to make up the unfinished course and the time we had to wait for the balls to come back. That was nice of them.....except for the fact that he didn't do it!!! He was straight up lying. Bc i kept checking my account and I didn't see no refund pending from them.... So I waited 2-3 days then I finally call them back checking up on the refund. Explain the whole thing and I'm pretty sure the guy who answered the phone was the same guy who told me he would refund it to me the day of my reservation! So he puts me on hold and tells me that a manager has to be the one to refund me. So why did that guy in the outpost hut tell me he was refunding me if he really wasn't?!?! To top it all off, the course looks like crap. And they don't even have a score card to give you. Good thing I took a picture of their somewhat course layout so I knew where the heck I was going. The course is literally just grass that is so overgrown and bumpy that you cannot even call it foot golf. Save yourself time and don't go here.

Captain Kim knew we were birders and wanted to take photos of the shearwaters, boobys, and albatrosses and she always positioned the boat while giving us the best and most stable view for photography, while maintaining a respectful distance to the animals to avoid stressing them. We went out to Ka'ena point and had a great view of the Laysan albatross colony. There is truly nothing like having an albatross fly overhead. Along the way, we saw spotted dolphins actively feeding and playing, and also saw spinner dolphins! Seeing the monk seal lounging on the beach was a bonus. The wedge tail shearwaters had just returned so they were busy on the water. We also found masked boobys and brown booby feeding. We also saw turtles at their cleaning station! Connor and Bethany were knowledgeable about the landscape and the ecology and shared wonderful information. They are genuinely the nicest people! Highly recommended. Our driver nicknamed "Short" was a great driver as well as a native who knew the island and all it's customs, history, and it's little fun facts and quirks. Short is also a life philosopher. I won't spoil it should you get him, but he has a good way of keeping things light hearted but really makes you think about why the world and it's constant feuding is the way it is. The trip started sharply at 8AM (hotel lobby pickup) and after picking up a few passengers at different hotels, we were off. The Pearl Harbor tour and the ride over was excellent. While I knew a lot of what he was narrating, he goes into the back story of why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor. Much different than what you probably learned in history class. Nothing excuses the Japanese military government for doing what they did and he's not an apologist for them, but he laid out the facts leading up to it. Very informative. The movie at the Pearl Harbor center was well done by the Park Service, but we didn't have much time to look around much after that as we needed to keep to schedule. A few passengers were a full 30 minutes late, but he didn't give them the riot act but instead gently and jokingly chided them a little. It was pretty funny! The Dole pineapple gift shop stop was all about buying stuff, so if you've done it you'll be bored. But for first timers, get the Pineapple Freeze at the back of the store. We stopped by three parks and beaches which included the North Shore, a park whose name I forget, and Hanauma Bay. We highly recommend PPF.
