I want to let everyone in on a little secret... Eastern European desserts are delicious, arguably the best! This store has lots of Eastern European goodies, and I encourage everyone to check them out!! I know it can be a it intimidating if you didn't grow up with the culture or speak the language but here are some of my favorites here: the individually packed "dadu" ice cream is so good - extra creamy and comes in a pre-packaged cone. I also really like the desserts in the freezer - lots of great cakes and pastries, my fave is shaped and named after a potato (kortoshka), which is a fudgy goodness. They also have "pryaniki" which are a type of gingerbread cookie. There are also lots of gourmet cheeses, deli meats, and marinated veggies that I come for. read more

A lot of really interesting items in this store. A Huge variety of Russian foods. They have a nice selection of chocolates and wafers, etc. and one of my favorites is the premade borscht soups. there's several varieties and all are pretty darn good. I've read earlier reviews that said the staff is not very friendly and that's probably true but I think they are Just quiet unless you're speaking Russian. Definitely check the dates when you buy something. I think a lot of stuff stays on the shelf for quite some time. They have a really wonderful selection of sausages and cured meats. Have you ever driven past a business over and over again because they just didn't register on your radar? Paradise Market is easily overlooked because their storefront is so unassuming, but open the door and take a step inside and you'll walk into an enchanted international experience in downtown Hopkins. Curb appeal - 1 easy to miss and ignore. They do need help building a solid curb appeal, but if you're willing to look beyond this minor flaw, this Eastern European market is such a great find and little gem in a downtown Hopkins which is already a cool experience in and of itself. Experience - 5 Nothing like walking into a tiny store where the first thing you see are racks and racks of bulk candy! Nirvana :) it was so fun guessing the flavors of the candies we bought. Selection - 5 My husband found a lot of his European favorites. The rest of us tried a lot of new foods and so far have not been disappointed. The deli counter had really good cakes by the slices. Their sausages and breads were also tasty. Service - 5 the staff was very forgiving. We didn't realize that the bulk candy had two different prices and we mixed both in the same bag. They helped us work it out. Appreciate their bilingual staff bc we speak English, German and Spanish but not Russian. Accessibility 5 - lots of parking in their store parking lot. I started out in EP and ended up in Hopkins chasing down a Dunn Bros. As soon as I see the strip mall I knew it wouldn't be the funky atmosphere I need so I left and passed by Main St. for downtown Hopkins. I'm looking over the street and spot this. I love Russian markets. I looked in the fridge in front which carries salads. Check the expiration dates. I noticed my favor kind of beet salad. Shredded beets, lots of mayo, garlic powder and prunes. A pint of this pink deliciousness was my dinner and gone in a day. I found my favorite Greek style caviar spread Taramosalata. I believe it's vegan and no carb. They have everything you'd expect to see. read more

I disagree with the person who said they were cussed at. I've always been treated respectfully. Maybe some of them don't talk so much to me because they don't speak English. But the other people have been very friendly to me. It's the closest store that sells Russian food to where I live and I'm satisfied with it. Never bought any food that tasted old except for some zefir, but that was a one-time occurrence. I'm generally satisfied with what I buy there. read more

We came here because I was craving Halva. The options are very limited and I didn't realize that I purchased expired halva! I purchased 2, the other one expires in 4 days and I purchased it today... I didn't think to check the dates. I have also purchased groats, Tvorog, Ayran, kumis, ryazhenka, and expired kinder eggs. Check expiration date before purchase! The sales lady did warn me to check the dates but I had a bit of a difficulty doing so with a toddler on my hands. However, when you come to a grocery store, you expect them to sell fresh produce. read more

This place is great. A fig to all the thin-skinned naysayers. Delightful wide-ranging selection of candies. Delicious, nutritious, warm and freshly-baked bread. Better than anything in the troughs at the mass-produced high fructose corn syrup peddling places that the blissfully ignorant and isolated have come to call stores. Wide assortment of cheeses and meats and so much else in-between. Patient and kind clerks behind and in front of the counter. This store is what we need more of here in the United States -- patronize it and you'll be healthier, wiser, and pleased. read more

Even if I didn't want to offset the unjustified bad reviews, I'd still give this place five stars. It's WAY out of my way, but bar none there's no better place to stock up on ingredients for East Slavic cuisine (An important distinction; for Western stuff, like Polish and Czech, hit up Kramarczuk's). Their frozen pierogies are so good that it almost invalidates my drive to spend 10+ hours ever making my own again (but only almost), the absurdly fatty sausages are like nothing else, the tea will change your life it's so good, and oh my god is that seriously Kvas? This is absolutely a Russian store - hell, the giant yellow sign out front says literally that, , in comically imposing block letters. The staff here aren't rude or cold, they just don't speak much English and probably don't usually have to given the regular customer base. I don't go to Shuang Hur or Mercado Central expecting people to start a bubbly conversation with me in fluent English, and if the service here is considered cold/rude it's kind of hilarious for me to imagine how terrified these other reviewers would be if they met some of the legitimately grumpy old ladies at other ethnic groceries. read more

I am updating my previous positive review to reflect current store conditions. After visiting regularly for 4 years, we have watched the store go downhill in product availability and freshness. If you see "sale" items, check the expiration dates. We are seeing cookies that expired over a year ago, honey that expired 2-3 years ago, and meats that are questionable. This weekend they told us they no longer bake their own bread. They never have halva, "Eskimo" ice cream, many cheeses that are popular with customers, and Farmers cheese that is the consistency of yogurt. Have a favorite candy? Good luck at finding it in stock. And to call the owner for a special order? Wish on. The help has also become apathetic. We are looking for a new location to buy our European goods. read more

If you do decide to shop at this store, shop at your OWN RISK and I mean it. No RETURNS or EXCHANGES at this establishment. The motto "Customer Satisfaction" and "Customer is always Right" is non existent to this place and the owners. The owners do not take any responsibility for expired items, even if it means expired caviar, milk products or grains with bugs in it may present a health hazard. I was told, "I don't care", "You probably did not store it right.", "When products leave my store, I have no responsibility" over health safety of customers and if I have questions or concerns I can call the phone number on the jar to speak to the manufacturer. Make sure to check the expiration date on everything, even if the item is behind their counter. My mistake was I purchased their caviar, at Hopkins location, which is behind their counter now and did not check the expiration date as the cashier put the item in a plastic bag right away. The expiration date was questionable as most of the digits were wiped off and the caviar had a foul taste. In my opinion, they should have made the exchange and I actually was going to buy a more expensive caviar in exchange. Notice I didn't want a refund. But no, the owners decided if it doesn't smell bad, it is probably still good and I'm just being picky. In response to what if we will get sick because you can get really sick from a bad caviar, the owner said that he doesn't care. By the way, the owner wasn't there and I was told to call the number on the door to talk to him. He told me to leave the product there and he will check it out, but I'm screwed one way or the other - either I'm picky or didn't store it right. Didn't know there was a special way to store it in the fridge or transporting it in the winter. Once again, I told him it's a waste of my gas driving back and forth, he stated that he could care less. Also, needless to say, in the past it was suggested to me by their employee to scrape off the mold from their expired cottage cheese and it is still ok to eat. Just because they fail to dispose of old products, doesn't mean that their customers have to waste hard earned money and throw away the stuff they buy. It's no different than robbing people. This is the place where I had my worst customer experience in Minnesota! First of all, you need to spend more time while shopping than usual because you need to check all the expiration dates. They do sell expired food. Second, if you try to return some bad food after purchasing it, you will be faced with irony, skepticism and aggression. The owner is rude, and it seems like he doesn't care about loosing his customers. I spent $$ there before I got in the situation twice when I had to return spoiled food and was treated awfully. worst service ever, cashier tried to add her own item to my purchase and when i confronted her, she got very aggressive and rude. i have heard from other customers that service is awful there and i sure experienced it by myself. i will try to contact the owner as well but by reading other people's reviews i dont think that will help as owner does not take much input into customer service skills either. lost my $ 200 business for tonight and forever, thank god there are more Russian grocery store options in twin cities. read more

I was happy to find an Eastern European/Russian grocery in Hopkins. Great selection of products that you can't find elsewhere in the Twin Cities easily, especially pierogies. I am anxious to try many of the items there although for many I could not read the labels. Workers were friendly but appear to have some difficulty with conversation in English so the interactions were brief. I was amazed by how many people were in the store speaking another language with the workers (I assume Russian, Polish or other Eastern European). To me, that is a sign of an authentic place and I embrace that. I look forward to learning more about the store and the products. I will definitely be back. read more
