A quality upscale establishment in Ashburn all around. First, it's too small, which just hurts the ability to really relax since you're right on top of your neighbors. But, that is the only draw back. The wines are terrific, rotated quite often, and the wine dispensing unit is A+! Food is superior to your average restaurant and while it may be tapas plates, they are pretty sizable. Everyone ordering one dish will easily feed you all. Little tip: the lamp shank is HUGE and hard to share. It's literally a hock of lamb, so most might be put off by pulling off hunks of meat in front of others. I loved all the staff members, who are quite plentiful. Always talking to you with a smile, knowledgeable, and give you lots of ideas for food pairings. If you're wondering, you get a card and just go up to the wall and buy your small, medium, or full glass. You pay your balance at the end of the meal and it's not prepay like it used to be. I had no idea Ashburn offered such a nice wine bar. I love the decor, live music, and I liked the overall shape of the restaurant. Right when you walk in, you'll see tons of high rise tables and stool, off to the side is the bar, and towards the back you'll see the wine machines. I sat close to the back near the wine machines and I loved looking at restaurant from this angle since its like a rectangle, I had a great view of people and the live performer. The menu is a small menu, fair for a wine bar... I think we ordered a bread and cheese plate and as for wine we order a waiter recommended a glass of white and a glass of red. Love this place! I'd definitely recommend it to those going on a first date or even just to hang out with friends. Great atmosphere and great waiters! read more

I love this place, I hate this place. This place has some potential, and appears to be holding strong. However, it is just not consistent enough for me to regularly visit. It seems when you enter, you will either be amazed, or extremely let down. I have had great service and I have had abysmal service. I have had some pretty good food, and the same dish the next visit was awful. It's hard for me to justify spending that amount of money when I am unsure which of the two experiences I am going to have. Ironically, I see service seems to be the number on complaint on Yelp. Typically my servers have been friendly. However, very few seem actually trained to work here. Ask for a beer or wine suggestion, or really any information regarding these or the food, and you most likely probably won't get a very good answer. Yes, this place has an extensive wine menu and I don't expect my server to know each and everyone inside out (though that would be nice), but please don't recommend a Pinot when I say I like big Bordeaux blends. I bought a coupon for Parallel, since it's close to where a friend of mine lives. We went on a weeknight, sat on the patio, and ate (and drank) our faces off. Everything was fantastic. Normally I love Parallel and was really looking forward to dining there for a late lunch today. Unfortunately we were left at the table with no service for over 10 minutes. The hostess eventually brought us water and then another staff member brought us more water and said someone would be right with us. They never came over. It was not crowded, however, they did seem to be short staffed for such a beautiful day. When we told the hostess we were leaving because no one had come by to serve us, she just replied "Okay" and then cleared our table. UPDATE: The owner, Jason, responded to this with an apology and said he severed ties with the artist. Thank you, Jason. If you feel like having a night of being racially discriminated by a musician, then this is the place to go. My gfs and I were there last Friday night from 8-10pm, and the musician performing, who we now know is Ted Garber (found from their website), singled me out as "comedic relief". With all this over his microphone, he apparently thought it would be "funny" to racially discriminate me all in the name of his humor. I'm still not sure this establishment thinks that it is appropriate for anyone to be referenced as "that Asian girl" or to be asked "where are your people from". Sure there are ignorant people out there. So, when this was all happening, I chose to ignore him. But that only made it worse. He persisted to single me out in front of the entire restaurant where he directed inappropriate and racially discriminatory remarks for what I'm guessing is a response from me. He continued saying that he "understands me because he likes sushi and had it the other night." But that wasn't enough, so he then added "that Asian girl won't look at me because she probably had white servants like me where she grew up" and then asked if I would like to put an acorn up his a$$ to feel like I'm his master. To our dismay, none of the staff or management there intervened while I was obviously shaken by the exchange. Needless-to-say, we all left immediately after this as it was not funny or amusing in any way. Been to Parallel multiple times for various reasons. The food is always great (Pork Belly is my favorite dish on the menu, but the homemade chips with Blue Cheese sauce and the burger are really good too. Oh and don't get me started on the duck fat fries). Wine selection is really good and they have a pretty lengthy craft beer list for a wine bar. They do have a limited amount of liquor too. Parallel supports a lot of local artists so you can usually hear a good musical act in there especially on a Saturday night. When the weather is warm on Sunday afternoons you can find a group of people hanging on the patio with their pups for Yappy Hours. Service has always been great and Jason the owner is always floating around to greet guests. read more

I've visited Parallel twice now, and can't wait to go back. The wine selection is very good, the best of the offerings which I have tried is the Ned, a New Zealand sauvignon blanc, which I recommend highly. They have a traditional happy hour, where select food and drinks are $5, but also a "crazy hour", where the very same food and drinks are available for just $3! It's a great deal that doesn't come at a cost of quality - for food during this hour I tried the portobello caps, which were seasoned well, very tender, and were stuffed with an appropriate amount of cheese. During my other visit, I tried the shrimp pesto flatbread - also very tasty, a bit heavier than I might have liked, but only slightly, and to be expected with a flatbread (hardly a healthy choice anywhere you might go). read more

My husband and I visited Parallel on a Saturday evening for drinks and dessert after we had already had dinner elsewhere. We got a few glasses of wine we were familiar with, a sparkling wine flight (really nice!!), and a dark chocolate and raspberry torte (divine!!). The atmosphere is exactly what we look for in a wine bar...dark wood interior, dimly lit, with surprisingly good live music (not in the way). It's a great place for a date night or small groups. It's not a place I'd recommend for more than 6 people in a group and definitely no children. Our waitress was prompt, polite, attentive, and explained the wine machines and all that without our needing to ask. We definitely didn't experience the poor service described in other people's reviews. No service charge was added to our bill. We would definitely visit Parallel again. read more

He recommended a terrific red wine and Prosecco for our drinks the food was amazing!! Also recommended by Justin. He didn't rush us at all and was fun to chat with. I called ahead to reserved for an outdoor dining & when we got there, the hostess said they didn't have us down for reservation (even though I spelled my name over the phone twice) & put us in an indoor corner spot but I asked for outdoor seating & there was plenty available outdoor, so the hostess moved us. I came in on a Saturday afternoon for a quick lunch date. CJ was our server and she was pleasant. I had a mimosa (because why not?) and we ordered the friend pickles as an appetizer. There was only 2 of us, and within 5 minutes of the pickles arriving- our food was being served. I hate when restaurants have bad timing . So we essentially both had a fried pickle, pushed them to the side and ate our entrees. I had the chicken sandwich- which wasnt anything to write about, but the chicken was tender, and moist. But those damn duck fries!!! They're SO good. I'd excuse poor timing for the duck fries any day. Pours are super skimpy (consistently well below the etching on the glass) and the wine is expensive to boot. Happy hour is under staffed and you'll be lucky to get a full 4 ounces of wine in your glass, even at full price. Also, appetizers are delivered at a minimum of a half hour after ordering and luke warm and incorrect. The female server who seemed to be in charge of the 3-5 happy hour crowd spent an exorbitant amount of time talking to her male customers and simply ignoring her other tables. So disappointing after some decent experiences there. So its been 5 months since I have been here and they have finally changed their menu. As a regular, especially on Tuesday for their half of wine bottles, I was definitely looking forward to their new menu. So far I have tried their lobster flatbread, grilled romaine and fried green tomatoes. I was disappointed in all of these small plates. The lobster was plain and missing something and accompanied with a some arrugula salad. The grilled romaine was not what I remembered. It was burnt missing that charcoal smell and flavor. I enjoyed my crazy hour at parallel today. I was instantly greeted with friendly faces at the front, Diana. I was greeted by Rachael at the bar and she was a wealth of information and hospitality. Great place for a date night or a girls night out! We stopped by here while we had our kids at the Little Gym for a parents night out for an after dinnter drink and to check it out. It was really neat. I ordered a flight of sparking wines and my husband got a glass of port. The waiter gave good recommendations and told us how the wine dispensing machines worked. We got a dessert which was pretty good too. There was also a guitarist playing that night as well. But one thing that never changes is their commitment to customer service and passion for amazing food and wine. They've hit a solid groove over the past few years of having excellent seasonal menus with original dishes and familiar deliciousness that pleases a variety of palates! The wine, I LOVE that I can try wines I've never heard of and find new faves, we also enjoy beer so their craft beer menu is excellent on their patio. Date night, meeting with friends- it's an adult oasis in the burbs even though some people still bring children now and then. We love this place for drinks and live music on the weekends. When I called ahead, the host asked the manger to double check they could seat us. They asked us to arrive at 7:15 instead of 7. When we arrived, they then asked us if we could politely be finished by 8:30 because the managers son needed our table. By this time we had not ordered dinner yet. We really wanted to enjoy the music and not be in a rush to leave. After going out of our way to speak to the hostess again she eventually found another table for the owners son. I went to Parallel expecting a lot, but I would say it fell pretty far from that high expectation. Their drink menu was extensive, including wine, whiskey, scotch, etc. and they also offered flights of both wine and whiskey, which was nice. They did have wine machines as well, which was cool, but many tables block certain sections, which could prove to be quite irritating for both seated and machine customers. The idea was great - but the structure of the building does not provide for enough space for this concept. We started with a small cheese board, which included 3 meats, 3 cheeses, bread, crackers, jam, mustard and cornichons - $35 for a board that had an insubstantial amount of food. We ended up ordering another one, and the portions were entirely different, which leads me to believe that there's a lack of consistency here. For entrees our table had 3 different burgers, one flatbread and 2 orders of the Waygu beef sliders. Two of the three burgers were overcooked, one arrived 10 mins after the rest of the food, and the flatbread was the incorrect kind. The sliders were fantastic, I will say. The owner, Jason, was very apologetic about the multiple errors, and was nice enough to remove those entrees from our check, as well as provide us with an incentive to return. So for that, I applaud him. Servers were nice and friendly, but the ambiance and loud music made it very difficult to communicate with them effectively. The restaurant was quite busy on this Saturday evening, so I can understand why service was slow at times. All in all, I would return purely for drinks and small plates, but in my opinion, it's not worth it for a full fledged meal. Considering the prices, I was expecting a lot more. read more

Had a very pleasant evening last night watching our friend's band play outside on the patio! I liked the atmosphere and the layout of the place. I didn't get to go inside but from what I saw from the patio it looked very well decorated! I liked the beer list, surprisingly! Our waitress wasn't 21 yet and didn't know much about the drinks but she was good about asking staff members for their opinions and helped me figure out some good beers to try...I tried the Purple Haze Raspberry, and really liked it! It was crisp, very light with a noticeable hint of raspberry but not strong enough where you can only sip it- I drank mine very fast! The second one I tried was the Bluepoint Blueberry, almost exactly like the raspberry in terms of crisp lightness. They also printed out an alcohol list, and I thought they should create cocktails using those spirits and have a menu of them for people like me who aren't big wine or beer drinkers. The food wasn't anywhere close to as bland as some of the reviews described! We tried the parmesan duck fat fries, they were quite tasty but needed a bigger dipping bowl with more dip! It was gone in seconds! One of us got a blackened chicken and everyone was shocked by how good it was. Someone else got the ahi tuna sliders, SO TINY and pretty expensive (4 for $16 or something, my husband was not all about that) but they smelled fantastic and the pile of veggies in the middle were tasty. We tried the lobster flatbread, oh my goodness it was so good!! We even ate the small salad it came with, even though it had goat cheese on it...the dressing was very light but full of flavor and didn't need a lot on the lettuce, and it was still good despite some arugula leafs being in there! Yumm! The tables and chairs, I gotta say, were all very wobbly...at least the ones we were all at. No sugar packets around, so we had to improvise on trying to balance it out. I don't know if it was the furniture or the patio that was so uneven but I couldn't even put my hand on one of them without all the wine glasses teetering, got annoying after awhile. read more
