The menu is flat out one of the best I've seen in years! So many amazing choices from savory to sweet, creative fun names for everything, outstanding choices, tons of options for every palate. They kept some of the staples from before which is a nice hat tip to tradition but you can also tell the new chef/owner wanted to have some fun with the menu and it's a hit in my book! The food is very fresh, coffee hot and delicious, and the service is as good as it always was! Tanya is the best! The pancakes are next level, all of their omelettes I've tried have been dynamite, favorites include the French Onion Omelette, Reef & Beef and Juan in a Million. Today we had the Sunrise in Tulum Birria tacos and Country Benny (okay along with a flight of pancakes, stop judging). Everything was great! Avocado toast options are fantastic as well. Love seeing such an iconic local breakfast joint not only stay as good as it's always been but actually improve. Well, the food is even better than before- pancakes have been perfected, the new fresh squeezed OJ, and even the South west skillet improved with the attention to detail- they have evenly distributed the chorizo in a way that makes every bite balanced and smooth, which was not the case prior! The friendliness of the staff and the owner,specifically, is amazing. They really want you to have a good experience and clearly are passionate about hospitality. They even have a "take one" ticket on their cork board for those who can't afford a meal- someone can just receive. My family will only get our breakfast at Sandy's bc there is no one who has breakfast potatoes that remotely compete, skillets that knock your socks off, a breakfast burrito that is satisfying AND filled with flavor, pancakes that look and taste like heaven, sandwiches that fill and taste flavorful and fresh-- need I say more?! The chicken noodle soup tasted foul--almost as though the soup pot hadn't been properly cleaned between uses. My mother ordered a fruit cup with her meal, but the first thing they brought her was French fries. When they corrected the mistake, they brought out watermelon, pineapple, and banana slices. While the fruit itself would have been fine, the banana was already beginning to brown, which made it look particularly unappetizing. Unfortunately, the problems didn't stop there. The French toast was limp and undercooked, and the French fries were hot on the outside but cold in the middle. The experience was bad enough that we noticed another customer at a table across and diagonally from us take one bite of his burger, put it down, get up, and leave without eating any more. By the time we left, we hadn't been able to eat much of anything. We ended up stopping at McDonald's on the way home because we were still hungry and needed something we could actually eat. I understand that mistakes happen in restaurants, but this was far beyond a single mistake or an off dish. Nearly everything we ordered had a problem, and the overall quality was extremely disappointing. Based on this experience, I would not return.

"A traditional French chef would define a bisque as being a thick, creamy soup made with shellfish and thickened by a paste made from their shells. Cooking shells? I had no idea! Julia Child was one chef to popularize lobster bisque in the United States; her recipe uses both the shells of the lobster and rice to thicken the bisque. Today's definition of bisque has expanded to include vegetable bisques, like tomato and butternut squash. The word is more related to the smooth texture of the dish and the use of cream. Most modern bisques are thickened using rice. Some cook the rice in the broth and strain it out later, using only the left-behind rice starch to thicken the soup. My wife got the drunken burrata, which is a chicken cutlet in a vodka sauce over penne toped with mozarella and burrata cheese. It was outstanding. I had to look up burrata cheese. Burrata, meaning "buttery" in Italian, is a fresh cheese made from a mix of mozzarella and cream. The thin shell of the cheese is a pasta filata curd made of buffalo and/or cow's milk mozzarella, while the insides contain a soft, doughy, stringy mixture of curd and fresh cream. When you cut open a Burrata, it oozes with buttery and creamy panna containing scraps of mozzarella. The cream has a rich flavor and must be eaten immediately. So, I'm on the hunt for burrata now. The cutlet itself was thin, crispy and perfect. Almost tasted like veal. I've followed dozens of chicken parm type recipes but could never get my cutlets like this. The penne could have been more al dente. The deserts we chose ,chocalate pudding and red vellvet cake were ok. Friendly staff.
