I had a cheesesteak on a seeded roll with fried onions. It was delicious and the best cheesesteak I've had in a very long time. The meat is seasoned perfectly. The staff was wonderful. I met the owner, Dan who made me feel right at home. I highly recommend if you are looking for a great cheesesteak!

I currently live in Delco, and as a result, I've frequented the same places for the last twenty-five years. Then I stumbled onto Van Horn's one day, and my cheesesteak experience hasn't been the same since. I stuck with the same steak for a while -- I highly recommend the blackened chicken cheesesteak. But recently I ventured out to try something new, and once again, Van Horn's didn't disappoint. The fact that you can get your chicken cheesesteak chopped or chunked is another nice touch. It's rare that I pay for something I'm used to paying a little less for and feel like I actually got my money's worth -- but that's exactly the case here. I've talked to family and friends, and we'll gladly rank Van Horn's as the best place in Delco, hands down, against any other contenders. Sitting here right now, looking forward to chowing down for lunch. Thanks!

The next-to-last time we were there, I guess we were laughing too loudly at the show they had on the television so they abruptly changed the channel. Yes, we were there a bit longer than we might have been if we hadn't been enjoying the show, but it's not as if we were super loud or preventing anyone else from getting a table. Of course, I had to pay extra to get "extra" meat on my sandwich and you can't even ask for just white meat. If you don't pay extra, you have zero chance of feeling as if you got a turkey sandwich. The last time we were there (and I see no reason for it to not be our LAST visit), the guy at the counter actually agreed with me that it is actually a stuffing sandwich (as opposed to a turkey sandwich with stuffing on it)! I paid the extra money again, but got no more meat than the usual scraps, which were a mix of mostly dark meat, and some dry, hard bits of white meat. Atrocious. Are all the locations this bad?

I do remember having the chance to have pizza and possibly a cheesesteak from the original thunderbird many years ago. I believe it is in Broomall and if I can remember that far back, it was also pretty good. Thunderbird II is also located next to one of my favorite, most-frequented places, so I am constantly seeing what they are making and have always meant to go in and order something. I cannot remember exactly which salad off the menu I ordered because the names escape me but I do know the ease of ordering online made it simple for me to add croutons and a TON of edamame, and that was at no added charge whatsoever, which was a great addition and a great feature. The salads have a great mixture of everything and it was big, like a two meal salad big. I don't advocate eating a salad in two sittings because I am not a fan of how the lettuce and other greens get less crisp and super soggy with dressing. However, that was not the case with this one. It was great the next day for lunch. Like outstandingly great. I don't have anything else from here to compare against other places except this salad, but I really did enjoy it and it was a reasonable price for the quality and the size of the meal. I would definitely like to try other things from Thunderbird II and will likely be coming back to customize another salad in the near future as I have a hard time finding salads that I can really make the way that I want them. So stop by Saxer Ave if you're in or near Springfield and give them a try.

Much…read moreof the food and the recipes are the same, but the entire business has been rebranded as Phastbreak Cheesesteaks, around a sports-based, basketball-centric theme, and the owner has changed, as well as the vibe of the restaurant. This isn't necessarily a negative, as everyone that we encountered was extremely nice and eager to show us the wonderful new things they were offering now that they had taken ownership of the business. While the menu has definitely expanded, it almost seems like there may be too much on offer now, as some of the items are not up to par of the quality that I have grown used to having frequented Slack's over the past five years. We were greeted immediately by one of the owners who very enthusiastically asked us what we were looking for and introduced us to a bunch of the people working, including one of the original chefs I have seen over many years coming here, so I had assumed our meal would be in great hands once we got it home and were able to relax and enjoy. However, something is different; not completely sure how, but there seems to be something missing in the sauce of the pizza. They also generously offered to send us home with some crab soup after getting into a long conversation about what the restaurant would be carrying over with the new branding. So, everything service-wise was amazing and I cannot fault the owners or the people working for anything we experienced because everyone was absolutely outstanding, very nice, and excited about the menu, the restaurant, and everyone that was coming in. However, the soup was extremely salty, and I mean almost inedible salty, and I have no problem eating anything. It was enough that I had to stop and couldn't finish even a small portion. The pizza, while very beautiful looking and smelling delicious was lacking something intangible. The crust wasn't exactly as I had imagined, and as I had stated earlier, something was simply off with the sauce, along with the veggies being slightly underdone, which is very important on a veggie pizza. Overall, we will be giving Phastbreak another try. You cannot go wrong with a pedigree like Slack's and the soup and square pizza has kept us coming there for years when we happen to be nearby, especially when on our way back home from the Springfield area. Maybe it was just an off day, or that they had recently taken over and "re-opened", but I cannot say that anything I had was all that impressive, which saddened me after knowing that Slack's will never be back; and it's a possibility that could also be a part of it. Though, all that said, you should give them a shot on your own and determine for yourself if they for your bill as the menu is extensive and I'm sure you'll find something on there you may be interested in.
