I had a very disappointing experience at this bakery. While I was taking a moment to choose a cake, the staff made rude comments about me "wasting time" and questioned why I was there. The tone and behavior felt targeted and came across as racially biased. No customer should feel singled out or disrespected like this. It was uncomfortable and completely unacceptable. Ever since I tried the blueberry chiffon cake during a yelp event a few years back, I was hooked. I decided to pick up a blueberry chiffon cake on a rainy New Year's eve around 4pm. Came in and luckily there was one left, also picked up a happy new year's sign for $3. I was surprised that a disposable knife with matches and candles were included. The blueberry chiffon cake was a hit at the party. The chiffon cake was light, airy, moist and wasn't too sweet. I walked in & was greeted right away. It was pretty quiet considering it was midday, midweek. I was looking for a quick lunch & a lil dessert to break up my work day. They have a lot of great options - fresh sandwiches (egg salad, chicken salad, turkey, etc.), ham & cheese croissants, curry or crab croquettes, garlic pastry dogs, etc. I haven't tried the croquettes yet, so I went w/ the crab croquette. Been here twice now and my wife went to another location. This bakery is so good. I have had several sweet pastries and today a savory option. This place is so clean and has a nice area to sit down and enjoy your selections. The coffee smells really good but I haven't had a cup just yet. Plenty of options to choose from. Usually most of the staff is nice but had a bit of a grumpy person today. Maybe they had a bad day or something. Still enjoyed our adventure. Still have to recommend this place. I would have visited a Paris Baguette closer to me, but I wanted to pick up something from H Mart, and there just so happened to be a Paris Baguette in the same plaza! At first, I thought Paris Baguette would have been inside H Mart, kind of like how in other locations, you'd see a Tous Les Jours inside as well. However, this Paris Baguette is actually aloof from the Korean grocery store. This Paris Baguette is one of two located in the City of Garden Grove. The other one is in The Promenade, but this one is on the northwest corner of Garden Grove and Magnolia. The bakery is also on the northwest corner of the plaza adjacent to Kaju Soft Tofu. I had already redeemed my reward for a free Lemonade Refresher with any purchase, so I used a different reward, which is sort of the converse: free pastry with purchase of any beverage. When I came in, I was greeted by a female employee wearing glasses. She was pretty pleasant from what I could see while I was walking back and forth along the display case deciding which pastry to get. They also have some baked goods at the rear wall next to a grab & go section of refrigerated items. I was a little dismayed at the selection of pastries here because when I visited a different location earlier in the week, they had a much better selection at just about the same time of day; I was kicking myself in the foot for not using that other reward there and getting the lemonade refresher at this location instead. All of their pastries cost $4.99 or less with the exception of one: the Strawberry Croissant. And there was only one left! Perhaps other rewards members had the same idea as I did, but I was so fortunate to have scored their last Strawberry Croissant for the day. And no, I'm not sorry for taking the last one lol. There were several other customers in front of me, and even when it was my turn, it still took a while for a male employee (Tony?) to ring me up. I asked him if any of the iced teas were caffeinated, and he believed they all were. Otherwise, I probably would have gone for a peach iced tea, which would have been refreshing in this SoCal heat. I then asked about the assorted hot teas, and he gave me a little booklet of tea flavors that Paris Baguette offer. He also gave me plenty enough time to decide because he went off to do something else, but not before he rang me up for the Strawberry Croissant and placed it inside a Paris Baguette box. After a couple of minutes, the first female employee noticed me waiting and was about to start ringing me up until I mentioned that her co-worker had already started the transaction. I just needed her to finish it off with my choice of the Chamomile tea, which was a go-to of mine during this thing called pandemic. It took a couple of minutes for her to brew my tea, but another co-worker of hers told me the pickup counter was just off to the side. She called my name when my tea was ready for pickup. There are a few tables by the right wall for dine-in customers. Even though there were plenty of customers inside during my visit, most took their orders to go. I stayed inside the bakery to relax for a little bit before my next stop. The tables looked immaculate at first glance with how shiny they appear, but there were some crumbs at one end of the table I sat at. I didn't see any of the employees cleaning the tables, however. I liked the Strawberry Croissant overall, but I wouldn't pay over $5 for another one. Even though it was light and fluffy as a croissant with a cream filling should be, the cream itself was kind of underwhelming. It was much less flavorful than the Choux Cream I had from that bread earlier that week. I did appreciate how it wasn't as sweet as it looked, but it still felt like something was missing in that cream, like it needed to be infused with an extra dose of love somehow. One gripe I have about the price tags is that some of them can't be seen at a normal angle. You'd have to lean closer and possibly on your tippy toes in order to see the prices of some of the pastries. I hope they consider repositioning the price tags so that you can readily see how much a pastry costs without having to do a little fancy dance move next to other customers deciding what to get lol. I previously mentioned a box was used for my Strawberry Croissant. The box could have held a second pastry, but I only got one, so I was pleasantly surprised I got a free box to go with my free pastry when I was expecting nothing more than a little plastic baggie. Overall, I was quite pleased with my visit to this Paris Baguette. Not the best visit ever, but good enough that I'd recommend as a good spot for sweet treats and drinks after shopping at H Mart. read more
