My hubs was hesitant to come back after his last session and especially after my review (he didn't know I was writing) but Elena & Jennifer helped him feel at ease of coming back and making it extremely flexible to rebook an appointment to come back in. Hubs went back to get the much needed deep pressure massage from Jennifer at The Spa Simply Skin. Both Elena and Jennifer were present to greet him. The ambiance of the room was serene as it was before. He keeps telling me about the nice Buddha in the massage room. Jennifer asked if the headrest area was ok was comfortable this time before proceeding. This time she asked about the massage pressure and if it was firm enough. She worked on getting his knots out which was greatly needed. She used a tool on his hands up/down his forearm that he said made him feel really good. He does repetitive work with his hands (handy electrician) and this helped relieve tension. Unfortunately, the experience changed completely when another employee came out and told me that the reservation was actually for a massage\. I explained that I had not intended to book a massage and that it must have been a mistake\. I also explained that I was not feeling well and could not have a massage because I am currently injured\. I simply asked if there was anything they could do, especially since I had driven an hour to get there\. Instead of trying to help or find a solution, the woman repeatedly told me, "It was your mistake," and said that because the massage therapist was already there, I would have to be charged\. When I asked if I could speak with a manager, she told me that she was the manager\. What upset me the most was not the reservation mistake\. Mistakes happen\. It was the complete lack of empathy and the way I was spoken to\. I was already anxious and explained that I wasn't feeling well, yet I was repeatedly told that it was my fault and that nothing could be done\. When I finally left, she said, "Try to have a good day, ma'am," in a tone that felt very sarcastic and dismissive\. I understand that businesses have policies, and I understand that reservations can be made incorrectly\. But customer service and empathy matter, especially when someone is explaining that they made an honest mistake, drove an hour to your business, and is physically unable to receive the service that was accidentally booked\. I spent almost two months looking at the Serenity Spa website and picking out exactly the services I wanted. I was GIDDY! I landed on the Indian Head Therapy, a facial, and then a chakra balancing massage, which a lunch in between. The facial and massage were both great. I would go back for each of those individually, for sure. The chakra balancing massage, in particular, was DELIGHTFUL. The Indian Head Therapy was so bizarre and not at all what I hoped for. It felt like the person who was supposed to do this treatment canceled at the last minute and they asked the esthetician if she could fill in. She started with my hands which immediately confused me because it's supposed to be head, neck and shoulders focused. It was super disappointing and I LOVE any and all head massages, but even when she got to my head, she was barely massaging it - I don't know how to describe it, but would not recommend. The layout of this spa makes the spa day not super ideal. In your robe, you have to traipse through the store front of the lobby, holding this super awkward basket full of all your belongings. I just felt so exposed and vulnerable naked in a robe, walking through a store! Lunch was $40. When I saw this on the website, I thought "oh! fancy lunch with some champagne! LOVE THIS!" and I was so excited. Now, I will say, I should have asked for details and I didn't, but lunch was a choice of salads or sandwiches, an iced tea and a Costco chocolate chip cookie. I can't think of any other way to say this, so here goes: It feels as if everyone that works there is nervous about getting in trouble from someone and then they just panic snip at each other to try to prevent people from getting in trouble. The vibe is that everyone is on edge, nervous, cranky, worried. Especially the people at the front desk were overly friendly but then kinda snipping at each other or at the people providing the services and then rolling their eyes at each other. It was a really odd vibe. So, all in all, I might go back for a single massage or facial, but I wouldn't choose this for a spa day. Things that would greatly improve this place: 1. Lockers or a place to store things that doesn't involve awkwardly carrying a basket. 2. Some sort of passageway that does not involve walking naked through the lobby to your next service. 3. Some sort of meal improvement - either a glass of champagne and a lunch upgrade or a SIGNIFICANT price decrease. Also the Costco cookie was so insulting - even a slightly fancier dessert might have taken the edge of the price off... 4. We were shown a small room that had a bag, robe and slipper with our names on it for us to change into. When I tell you I had to tell her in the middle of my massage "I don't know what it is your doing, but that feels amazing!" believe me!!!!!!! -- because whew chile!!!! She loosened up my back in a way I had yet to experience. We received 60 minute massages and then headed back into the lounge area to receive our foot soaks while two other people in our party were escorted into the massage rooms. That water, those rocks, and moisturizing oils felt so good y'all. Oh Em Gee! And someone came in and refilled it every time it thought about getting warm. Another thing I really liked was the cute little charcuterie-like board they offered us during the foot soak (oranges, cheese, crackers, chocolate). I wish it had more variety on it, but it was a nice touch to us relaxing. I also felt uncomfortable being lectured while I was scheduling the appointment initially about my treatment timing when I had already explained I received my last treatment in a different location on my face 2.5 months ago. I completely understand policies, but a small amount of flexibility in this situation would have made a big difference.
