We chose Parish this year as the location for my annual Birthday dinner and were very pleased. We started with the Fried Cheese Planks and Nola Seafood dip for appetizers and both were good. The fried cheese "planks" were really just your standard cheesesticks served with a pepper ranch instead of Marinara. The seafood dip was very tasty but could have used a bit more seasoning and a few more pieces of the lump crawfish, shrimp, etc. Also, it tends to sink to the bottom so make sure you scoop deep for the best bite. The chips were good, but a bit too sturdy and, although well seasoned didn't have the flavorful pop we were expecting. Still, neither were bad in any respect. I decided on the fried shrimp 'Po Boy and was not dissapointed. Everything on the sandwich was portioned well and to my liking. The remoulade was flavorful with just the right amount of heat. The 'Po Boys are available grilled or fried with your choice of Shrimp, chicken, oysters or grouper. Since a couple of us had them with our meals I will take a moment to praise the fries at Parish. The fries are a newer kind I have seen recently that are a hybrid of Steak fries and curly fries. Called 'Crescent' on the Parish menu and sometimes referred to as 'Sidewinder' fries, they were simply phenomenal. If you get a side of ranch or honey mustard to dip them in it is the perfect balance if you need a break from the spice of the remoulade. They tasted fresh and crisp on the outside and soft and delicious on the inside. If your meal doesn't come with then, I highly recommend just getting an order for the table to share. Another in our party had the Shrimp and Crawfish pasta whish was also very delicious. Both shrimp and crawfish were well cooked and not rubbery. The pasta was a little soft but not unforgivably so. The sauce was tasty and well seasoned also. Another had the Shrimp and grits which were some of the best I have tasted. Grits were hearty and stoned ground. The seafood was cooked perfectly and the roux was perfectly seasoned and delicious. Another member had a burger which was very good. Served on a Brioche bun with a thick ground beef patty. My child had the kids chicken tenders and fries which he devoured quite quickly and looked to be the same kind you would get if you ordered an adult platter and not the cheap substitutes some restaurants use. For dessert we decided to try the chocolate filled biegnets which were rich and delicious. Worthy of breaking or cheating on any diet or to compliment a last meal. The chocolate on the inside was sweet and smooth. Not a chocolate sauce or syrup, but a finer chocolate I've tasted in fresh baked bakery pastries. There were 3 large Beignets on the plate and they were covered in a generous amount of powdered sugar. In closing, the portion size of all the meals was generous and our server was attentive and very friendly. We left quite satisfied and can't wait to return again. read more

Was traveling through Macon and chose this restaurant through Yelp. I love Cajun food. The menu covered just about any Cajun dish. We stopped on Sunday, there was a brunch menu. Included was all you drink Mimosas for $12 and a Bloody Mary bar where you added Whatever condiments to your Bloody Mary. It was really cool. I opted for a Mimosa but not of the "all you can drink" variety. I ordered a fried oyster po' boy with cheese grits. I also ordered a cup of cream of crab soup. The bread on the sandwich was very fresh, the oysters were fried to perfection, and the roumalade sauce was great. The cream cheese in the grits made them very tasty. The crab soup was so crabby but was just a tad too salty for my taste. It was still delicious. There was a man playing guitar and singing during brunch, the wait staff was attentive and the restaurant is really warm and inviting. Certainly worth a trip to downtown Macon. read more

I arrived at 11:05 am on a beautiful Saturday morning. I was initially headed to the Rookery but spotted this gem so I wanted to try it. We were seated outside since it was so pleasant. I had a mimosa, fish and shrimp basket. The shrimp was grilled and the grouper was fried. The mimosa was tasty but the food was just meh. Maybe it's me but I tasted grease only. The Parish is a place I've been dying to try, as it's been recommended to me over and over again. I finally sat down to try their lunch menu. The decor was very mediocre, with a sort of dirty vibe happening, but the service was fast and friendly. Their limited burger menu, at first, seemed a bit small, as we had sat down to get their brunch menu but missed it by a few minutes, no big deal. My partner and I ordered just regular burgers with the default fries. However, the burger was, in a nutshell, fantastic. It was the right amount of juicy and flavorful, with a wonderfully toasted potato bun adorning the top. The ingredients tasted fresh and were mouthwatering. Every bite was almost heavenly. I finished the burger too quickly and had to restrain myself for ordering a second. Overall, it was just a really, really solid burger. I can't speak for the rest of their entrees but go there just for that. It was fantastic. read more

After arriving in Macon around 8:30 PM, getting settled, and heading out to eat dinner in the downtown, it was getting pretty difficult to find a place that was still serving food. Parish had live music playing, so we headed towards restaurant. The restaurant wasn't very lively at this hour, but the music was good, and the bartender was super friendly. She gave us menus and I quickly decided that I wanted a shrimp po'gal and my boyfriend picked the oyster po'gal. (Po'gals are grilled, po'boys are fried). My po'gal came on very soft, and scrumptious sub bread with about 8-10 shrimp and a delicious sauce. I ate half the bread because I'm watching carb intake but that took a lot of self control because the bread was so soft and delicious. The plate came with large curled fries that were also very yummy. I took a bite of the oyster po'gal and really loved the flavors there. I ordered a "She Likes It" and the bf ordered a Mule. Both were also very good and very affordable. Our impromptu dinner at this little restaurant was very wonderful, and I'm glad we stopped by. (We didn't have super expectations for bar food at 9 PM in Macon, but honestly, our food really impressed us) read more

We got there on a Saturday night and had to wait about 20 minutes which was fine. The atmosphere was really great with live music, so we thought it would be worth the wait. We had fried pickles as an appetizer, they were slightly greasy but good. While I had the veggie gumbo and was happy with it, my fiancé had the shrimp and grits, as well as corn on the cob as a side. The shrimp and grits were good but the portion of the shrimp and sausage was small for the price. The corn on the cob came out cold, they heated it and brought it back. Don't waste your time or money. The tables were dirty, the food is nasty. I went this past Saturday night, fryer was down... so that 60% of the menu gone. So my partner and I got the seafood pasta. Wayyyyy too much salt and nothing else. It was just not good. Normally I would deduct a star for having to get up to ask for a drink refill, but the food was so delicious that I decided to let it slide. I lived on the Gulf Coast for five years, so I consider myself qualified to effectively judge Cajun food. Our appetizers, the savory gumbo, kept us quiet except for the occasional ooos and aaahs and exclamations of how good (and authentic) it tasted. My friend, who also lived on the Gulf Coast, loved her bbq shrimp! She described the sauce as "delectable"! The chicken on my Po' Boy was crispy and the bread fresh. The waiter even brought extra sauce in which I used to dip the chicken "overflow" pieces. The place was reasonably clean, the music a bit too loud, but the food was oh so good. I walk in with husband and friends and we were laughed at by what I think is the manager. We stand there and he finally blurts out "I'm sorry we're closed" with a smirk on his face. I'm sorry but the food here is terrible, the restaurant and bathrooms are not clean and they seem to not like using the air conditioning! I've come here a few times and although it's very affordable I really left feeling like I paid too much for the quality I got. It's too bad because I love New Orleans cuisine and they do have live music on the front patio area. They also allow dogs outside which is really great! We were driving from Hilton Head to Atlanta and we stopped in downtown Macon for lunch. We happened to end up at Parish on Cherry and I'm glad we did! To start off we had the Macon Bacon (pictured below). It came with a peach dipping sauce so very good and as the menu warned, it's addicting! I ordered the vidalia onion slaw burger, great onion flavor without being overpowering. The show stopper was the shrimp and grits. Wonderful!!
