We asked if they had dinner rolls (no) but offered us crisps. I asked for butter with the meal to put on the broccoli. She asked melted or solid. I said solid that I wanted it to melt on the broccoli. The crab cakes came before the crisps (which never came). I asked for cocktail sauce and the butter for the broccoli from the runner who delivered our plates. He asked melted butter? I said no. The server was checked with us and I didn't know if the runner had sent her because maybe it was her job to take care of the little details. As I repeated my request for the butter and the cocktail sauce the runner came out with one dip tin of cocktail sauce and two of MELTED butter. I said I didn't want the melted butter and the runner said the broccoli was cooked in butter (suggesting i didn't need any butter--which I never got.) I think what the runner meant was they didn't have butter pats. I asked them to take away the melted butter (it was clear they couldn't or wouldn't honor my request). I wondered why they hadn't said it was cooked in butter in the first place. I was surprised also when the server silently came to our table and refilled my dinner partner's water glass and not mine. She finished serving us and took payment without a word other than did we want anything else. Although we had been considering the $12 dessert selections (which sounded yummy) we declined and stopped at Super Scoops on the way home for ice cream instead.

I couldn't see the waiter, so I walked up to the bar, only to have the three people there ignore us, even though one was looking right at us.
