But when people really need the best care, they come to Houston from everywhere in the world. I was diagnosed with lung cancer and had a robotic assisted surgery which took half of my left lung and I was alert conscious and feeling good just a few hours after the 5-hour procedure. because Dr. Kim used robots so the incisions were small, and my recovery was quick. I was sent home the next day. One day stay for major surgery! The timeliness of care was excellent. it was 2 weeks from referral to meet with the surgeon and two additional weeks to schedule the procedure, so I was essentially cured of my cancer within one month. this compares very favorably to the other cancer hospital next foor, which has a waiting list. to summarize, I had a great surgeon, a state-of-the-art operating room, competent nurses and everyone had a good attitude. really couldn't be better.

Parking is one of the main things that should be addressed for a large volume center. Whether you are part of the large workforce in the many hospitals or a patient visiting the clinic or ER, parking should be easy. Some of garages are designed badly (two way traffic in narrow lanes and lots of blind spots). It can routinely take more than 10 minutes just to park in a garage, on top of travel time in Houston. As part of the business, parking seems to be a large source of income. I have gone to several locations in TMC, and the cost of parking is $$. Some garages charge $5-10 for the first hour, but I never have been in and out within an hour. Most garages are $10-20 for an average, single appointment. If you have lots of appointments, just parking alone gets expensive quickly. In addition, public transportation in Houston is not a good option. While the cost of a bus ride is much more affordable, the time you need to spend looking up routes and the time spent waiting and getting the bus can be easily 2-3 hours, if you aren't already inside the inner loop of Houston. Since TMC is a large campus, you would think that there might a regular bus loop for the different parking garages and hospitals and other buildings. However, since there are several different, large healthcare groups, each of the groups only provides transportation services to their own group of buildings. Privileges for a student or staff for UT Houston and Baylor College of Medicine are completely separate.

It was very small and cramped. Tv remote had to be switched out because that wasn't working the first hour. The sleep sofa was in an odd space. But once I delivered I was moved to a recovery room in the jones building. The room was much nicer, but small. The limit is four guest but to be honest that's too much. I also love the celebration menu for the new parents. Steak, lobster Mac and cheese, spinach and key lime cheese cake. A very good reward after not being on a clear liquid diet for two days.

Recovering from a procedure of that magnitude requires attentive monitoring and compassionate care. Unfortunately, that was not my experience. I was shuffled around for a room and then placed in a very small room and often felt largely left on my own during my stay. The staff was poorly equipped to handle my recovery. The lack of knowledge was infuriating. They would crush time released medications and I was told if I didn't take it then I would have to stay in pain. (My mouth was wired shut and it was like battery acid with the syringe. They didn't care.) There were long periods where I struggled to get assistance, and the level of attentiveness from staff did not reflect the seriousness of my condition. I would consider the care here unethical and inhumane. I also observed that my room was not cleaned consistently during my stay, which is alarming for a surgical patient where infection prevention should be a priority. What troubled me most was the lack of compassion and responsiveness from most members of the staff. After undergoing such a major operation, patients should feel supported and cared for. Instead, I frequently felt like an inconvenience rather than someone recovering from extensive surgery. Hospitals should be places where patients feel safe and supported during their stay. I hope the administration takes feedback like this seriously and works to improve the quality of care provided to not only surgical patients but all patients. You can tell who's there for just a paycheck.

Day of surgery: April 9, 2026 Surgery: Belly Button Hernia…read more When I first met with Dr Paul James, I was told for my belly button hernia I was going to get clued up no stitches and a mesh would be placed to cover the hole. The day of surgery once again I was told by Dr Paul James and the nurses the sam thing no stitches and I'm getting glued up with the mesh. I get out of surgery I didn't get explained anything. I wasn't told how to take care of the wound. After a week I took off the bandage and I found that there was a piece of wire sticking out of my belly button. Weeks past and it was still there, I decided to follow up with Dr Paul James. When I went he told me that he decided to not use the mesh and decided to use stitches, but stitches that were placed inside me not on the outside of my belly button. He didn't want to give a reason why the game plan changed and why I wasn't told. I have called Dr Paul James' office 5 times and still haven't gotten explained why he changed the original plan I was told for surgery which was no stitches and I'm getting glued up with mesh covering the hole. Almost 2 months later and I still don't have an answer. The day of surgery I told the nurses that I am scared of needles. Most of the time after making that statement the nurses are more focus on me being calm and relax because they know this situation stresses me out. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case at this hospital. The anesthesiologist that it was funny to pretend that he was going to put a needle into my check to put me to sleep before surgery. I will say I truly didn't appreciate that, it made me feel very uncomfortable. While he kept doing it and pretending to put the needle in my neck, I told him to stop multiple times. My sister is currently in the Emergency Department on a bed in the hallway. She has been there…read moresince 11pm last night. She is very sick with colitis and a colon infection and passing blood. They have her on antibiotics and fluids but is not hooked up to any monitors for pulse ox or BP. They say they do not have any beds in the ED nor upstairs. The ED doctor has said she is to be admitted but will have to stay in the hallway and they do not have an eta on a room. They are still currently accepting patients at the ED and she said they have multiple patients in the hallways lined up like she is. I do not live in Texas or I would be with her and would have already driven her to another hospital. Its is beyond me as to why they are still accepting new patients when they have no room for the patients at present. They just gave her a colonoscopy prep and told her to use the public bathroom across the hall. She refused saying I cant not start the prep until you place me in a room. Completely unacceptable. It's all about the money! So sad.

First off, I went to MD Anderson with a recent cancer diagnosis. They were supposed to be my…read moreprimary doctors that would work hand in hand with my local cancer center. However they assigned me a team of oncologists who were NOT licensed for treatment of a patient from the state of Arkansas. They all thought that AR was Arizona and not Arkansas. I had already performed all the tests at my local oncologist like an MRI, PET scans, urinalysis, bone marrow biopsy, etc.... But they told me that it was their policy that I "had to" go through all of the same procedures in case they found anything wrong. I was 5 weeks into learning that I had blood cancer and had never been in a hospital before this experience. So they practically forced me to do everything again at a cost of over $3,000 after the insurance process. They then scheduled my follow up appointments with the doctor so we could determine my schedule for treatment. This was all scheduled in their app and was to be the first of many phone/video calls with my primary oncologist. The day came for my appointment and the doctor was 3 hours late to call me. My son had a basketball game that evening so we decided to drive there and hopefully the doctor would call me while we were on the road. He did call and asked me what I was doing so I told him I was driving to Tulsa OK for my son's game. He said that was way too far away from Arizona for a high school basketball game. I said it was just a 1.5 hours late trip from my house. He then said, no, you live in Arizona, you know ... AR. I said that I could be wrong but my 3rd grade American geography teacher told me AR was Arkansas. He said hold on.... Took 30 seconds to move around some paper on his desk, placed me on hold for another minute. Then he said that he didn't have a license to practice in Arkansas and he would have to cut the call short. I told him that my address never changed from the driver's license I gave them during the registration process and has always shown Arkansas. He laughed it off and said that he's not from America and he didn't take the same American geography class, but I should find another doctor as my primary oncologist because he would no longer be able to or willing to treat me. He then said that I should go to UAMS if I live in Arkansas... they have a cancer center up there. Fast-forward 3 months.... I disputed the bills with MD Anderson to no avail and they said it's not their problem to verify any information where a patient is coming from or who treats them. It's the patient's responsibility to know that from the beginning. It's ridiculous that their staff would expect a patient that is newly diagnosed with cancer to know that they would have to pull the licenses of every doctor that they are about to meet and work with to make sure that their license to be treating a patient from the state that they reside in. I also asked them where was the documentation that stated I needed to do this because they had plenty of documentation in the registration process that verified a whole lot of other items but nothing on being assigned a doctor that was licensed to treat the patient. Bottom line.... If you have a choice, please go to ANY other hospital and/or cancer center than this joke of a place. I'm my experience they only care about the money and immediately kicked me to the curb when they found out that I was not a steady paycheck for them and their industry. Just so you know, I never heard from the doctor again never got a card from them that said sorry we can't serve you or your needs. Just a bunch of bills that now I have to pay twice for because I had to do tests at the UAMS Center because they wouldn't even work with me to get all of my records in a timely manner. Yet they want to bill me for all of these tests that they didn't even use to help me fight my cancer. Again, all they're interested in is money and not the patient. I am now being treated at UAMS Little Rock and have had the most amazing experience that a person could have consider considering it's dealing with cancer treatment . The staff, the nurses the security the doctors are all amazing and I would never choose a different hospital. Please please please stay clear of MD Anderson, and go anywhere else.

My mother was treated rudely by a nurse who was releasing her from the 2 second floor ward. LBJ earns it's bad repetition. Patient relations did nothing to correct the situation. Then, they sent me a bill for my traumatic experience. It contained the name of a person said to be my doctor whom I never saw and had no idea about. That's when I saw that the person lying about being my doctor was a mere PA. One would do well to consider researching your own health and ways to heal yourself before going to this black hole of money and humanity.
