Over the top pressure and billing practices $$$$ for a cleaning and X-rays. Also suggesting unnecessary procedures for more $$$.

I was taken back after about waiting 5 minutes by Suzanne my hygienist. I had to also have x-rays done. Suzanne did a great job at my cleaning, explaining what she was doing, and always kept the conversation flowing. I had my cleaning done, then dr. Hinder came in to look at my x-rays. He said everything looked fine, there was just one tooth they're monitoring. All in all, it was a great experience.

We have been going to the same dental team for at least 15 years and it was replaced by this new team. First visit with the new team and I need a $1,500+ "deep cleaning". My wife's first visit, she needs a $2,000+ "deep cleaning". Then we see our neighbors experiences were similar. I feel you should get to know the patient first, do the cleaning they were expecting and then maybe schedule something more intense at a future, planned visit. However, to take a bunch of x-rays and then ask the patient to sign some papers is not the way to do business. When my wife asked for just the regular cleaning and to schedule anything else, the guy refused to just do what the appointment was scheduled for. and insisted he had to do the deep cleaning. Actually made it seem illegal if he didn't. I was also supposed to have a follow-up after the deep cleaning. I called and reminded them twice plus went to the office and they never scheduled the follow-up. We were also told we would get a refund because they were unable to get "trays" that they said my wife needed and instead of a refund, we got a bill. Nope...won't be paying that!

There was plenty of parking as they have spots in front and behind the building. Everyone was super nice and they made you feel like part of the family. My hygienist, Taylor(?) was one of the better ones I've had. One thing she did that surprised me was she put on some vaseline on my dry lips. I've never had that at any other dental office and it's such a small thing but it made a huge difference for me. It's the small details... All in all it was a great experience.. yes, going to a dentist was fun. Lol. I highly recommend this place as they treat you like family.

Anyway, I've recently changed dental plans which opened me up to other dental practices and found Beach Family Dentistry pretty close from where we live. So far the experience have been really good. They were pretty good at keeping on time with appointments, the staff were really nice and the difference in service is night and day. There were no upsell, they were upfront about services not covered by insurance and I felt that they care about saving you teeth than just recommending services to earn money. If live at the beaches and you're a dentist, check this place out.

So I call to make an appointment and I'm told new patients have to come in for two appointments almost back to back. Ok a little different but whatever. I also make sure to ask that they except my insurance. She says yes they do so wonderful I am a happy customer. The first visit is to be a very thorough visit with all kinds of photos and things that I have never done before. The second visit would be for the cleaning. Well the receptionist called me a few days before my visit and asked if I could stay for the cleaning. I was a bit confused as this was to happen on the 2nd visit but it wasn't a problem and I told her I could stay. I asked once again if they had checked with my insurance company and she said yes everything was good. So on the day of my appointment, I check in and then the office manager calls me back to her office. Weird. She lets me know that they are Out-of-Network and she is not sure how much will be covered by my insurance and how much I will owe. So I was not happy and it did not give me a good first impression or visit. I will say the hygienist who cleaned my teeth and apologized profusely was very nice and so was the dentist. I think the front office needs to be upfront and do a better job. Maybe this is their way of getting people in there and getting money. The jury is still out if I will go back. It will depend on when I receive my bill and see how much I owe.

Definitely not condescending and didn't make me feel bad about not flossing as much as I should, just provided me with a little education on the benefits and asked me to just try it everyday for a few weeks and said I'd be hooked. No fancy TVs in the ceiling, but good ol' happy oldies on the radio throughout the office and a generally nice, happy, comfortable atmosphere. Dr. Toman was great with my teeth too, making sure I wasn't in any kind of pain or discomfort and being genuinely sympathetic with things he knew weren't the best feelings in the world. By far the best dentist I've ever had and the best overall dental experience I've had too. Highly recommend First Coast Dentistry and Dr Tim Toman.
