It's unclear whether this is a casual to-go spot or a sit-down spot or a bar. The service here was confusing. You have to order drinks separately from your food, for one. Secondly, it took a solid 10 minutes for a bartender to walk behind the bar and begrudgingly explain to me what they have available. I would have ordered more but her attitude made me close the tab after one beer. We didn't get served water until after we received our food, a solid 15-20 min after being in the restaurant. It generally felt like no one wanted to be there, and the staff were just moving independently to complete tasks instead of creating a dining experience *together*. There was not a smile from a single person I interacted with. I'd most likely not return purely because the dining experience is just plain out uncomfortable. On to the food. Mostly oil and noodles except for the papaya salad, which was... okay. Again, big portions. Nice heat. But just okay. The whole cherry tomatoes on top were a little weird and screamed laziness. The tofu kee mao was... okay. Same for the chicken pad thai. Lots of oil. This food made us feel pretty tired after eating it, which I've rarely experienced eating Thai cuisine. And they were very, very stingy with the protein. My husband counted 4-5 little slivers of chicken and hella noodles. The same was true for my tofu dish. I mean... it's tofu y'all. Cheap. But I can imagine they have to cut these corners because there were about 8 staff members running around in a small space with only a few customers in for happy hour. They do have HH deals on drinks depending on the day, but I found the drinks to be overpriced and not worth it. Especially the beer. And a $10 non-alcoholic cocktail is wild imo, especially for the scanty area this area is in. They are certainly milking the fact that they are in eyeshot of the Mercedes Benz stadium. They had two pieces of lobster tail in there so you peel the lobster tail out and you chop it up and there was plenty of lobster meat and the scallops that were in there as well were huge. You have to be able to probably cut those in half to eat with your pasta as you use the fork in the bowl. It was plenty of seafood. There was almost more filling in the bowl than there was pasta, which is crazy! The flavor of it was sweet and savory and it wasn't as if one thing carried the dish. All the way around the dish was good. Lemongrass steamed mussels - now these are pretty good. Originally I was going to order the soup on the menu but JoJo said that the soup was basically the broth for the mussels so I just went ahead and canceled that. They were good and they were savory. They weren't the best mussels in the world but they are really good and the broth had the lemongrass flavor everywhere in your mouth. Super good. Also usually you may get like eight mussels or maybe 12 of them but this order came with like 25 of them and it was a huge order so that's not to be slept on. It came with a really toasted bread that you would use for the broth at the bottom. That broth after you finish could definitely be used for something else. Very tasty . Overall this is absolutely a stellar spot. I have zero complaints about it. The food was good. The ambiance was great. It seats maybe 10 and we received the best service imaginable. I love the little touches like putting a hook to the seat so you can hang your purse and providing a menu of the different food items we were eating with a "passport" stamp of when the food we were consuming arrived! But now onto the food... Again, I don't want to ruin the experience for everyone but I would like to point out that their dishes are very good and so fresh. We've tried other omakase restaurants and this place doesn't just serve sushi rolls, the food their serve takes on a journey or the different specialties Japan has to offer. Our personal favorites were the sawara from the zen garden course (the pickled ramp was such an interesting and inventive addition that made this way better), nama uni from the gai course (some quality uni that I would be dreaming about for days to come) and Chu-toro from the nigiri course (it was the right amount of fat for my personal preference). The Yaki sakana and sukiyaki courses were my favorites because of all the flavors these courses delivered. We had tickets to a show at 8:00 the next night's... no time to drive anywhere. Birthday dinner circling the drain. Enter Matthew, the general manager. He didn't make excuses or hide behind policy. He called my name across a crowded lobby, gave it to me straight -- "the answer's not good" -- and then found the answer anyway: two seats at the end of the bar, full menu. Done. And then he didn't disappear. All night we watched this man work the room, help the kitchen, and at one point he was in the back personally mashing the potatoes. We even discovered our birthdays are one day apart. As he put it: things like that happen for a reason. Now the food, because it earned its own paragraph. Bison bone-in ribeye -- fantastic, cooked perfectly. Garlic mashed potatoes (Matthew-mashed, possibly) and roasted asparagus were excellent. My wife's bison meatloaf with wedge salad and roasted carrots was top notch. "Salt-and-pepper onion rings to start -- which Matthew sent out on the house -- get them. And the blueberry cheesecake, also on the house for the birthday, did not disappoint." Our waitress Nara was attentive and sharp, and sitting at the end of the bar face-to-face with the kitchen crew turned dinner into dinner theater -- those folks are genuinely funny. And the encore: thirty minutes into our show across town, my wife realized she'd left her earphones at the restaurant. Before she could even get back -- Matthew had already sent a young man to FIND US at the venue and return them. He spotted me by my loud and proud Mount Rushmore shirt. A reservation mix-up that wasn't even this location's fault, and they treated us like family anyway. That's not policy, that's character.
