I hate to give the review of a three. I was expecting a little more smiling faces and greeting when I came in to a well known and sought after restaurant. I was disappointed when I learned that there was no slots available to reserve a table. Once I learned that there were no openings until Monday on the site, I learned that you can wait in person. Disappointing Experience - Twice If I could give this establishment zero stars, I would. This was my second attempt at dining at Old Lady Gang, with my first visit being at the Camp Creek location several months ago. Unfortunately, I didn't think the service could be worse--but somehow, it was. Both times, my fiancé and I stood at the entrance for 3-5 minutes without being acknowledged by a host or hostess. No greeting, no direction--nothing. We eventually had to flag down a waiter just to ask to be seated. Once we sat down, we weren't given menus, water, silverware, or even a simple acknowledgment that someone would be with us shortly. We were completely ignored for over 20 minutes. Concerned, we leaned over to another couple nearby and asked if they had received their food. They informed us that they had been waiting for over an hour with no sign of their meal. After sitting at our table for 30 minutes with no service whatsoever, we decided to leave. The most disappointing part? We wanted to give this restaurant a second chance, hoping for a better experience, but unfortunately, it was just as bad--if not worse. I've heard great things about the food, and I truly wish I had the chance to try it, but the complete lack of service made that impossible. I ate here with a friend about three weeks ago on a weekend visit to Atlanta. I learned of the restaurant while watching the reality show Kandi and The Gang. I had fried green tomatoes, fried chicken, and French toast. I enjoyed it, though it honestly wasn't anything spectacular or anything out of the ordinary. I was disappointed they didnt offer any coffee in the establishment. I will advise you to execute patience if you're going to patron this spot. It took an hour just to get appetizers and another 30 minutes or so to receive the main entree. I think maybe it took so long because they opened at noon, but staff was literally arriving at 11:45AM with us. They were severely understaffed as I only saw two waitress. The restaurant was fully packed. I was hoping to meet the old lady gang and maybe even Kandi. I didn't get that experience, but I was able to meet and take a photo with "Patrick" from the show. So my husband and I checked out OLG on a Saturday around 1p, we paid for parking down the street at a lot ($20 for 4 hours) but were seated right away. Zee was our waitress and she was the best along with her manager Tyrese. She gave great suggestions and was very personable and made us feel right at home. We even got to meet Aunt Nora and she was soooooo sweet, just loved how she mingled and talked with us. The ambiance was cute and rustic, I don't know if I really expected glamour but it was decent seating that could use a nice upgrade to the bathroom and tables/chairs. The food was really good! I suggest the lamb chops, collard greens, black eyed peas and rice, fried deviled eggs, and salmon bites! I ordered Mac and cheese but by the time I remembered I was already full. I've had this place booked marked for years. And finally made my way here. Parking is horrible to get here. I came mid afternoon so there weren't many customers. It's a clean designed restaurant with a bar inside. I ordered my meal to go so I could catch my flight. I got the fried chicken wings with mac and cheese & rice. It was made to order so took about 20minutes to get my order. The chicken was cooked perfectly. I think they put Parmesan on the outside of the wing, which gave it extra flavor. I am a big bravo fan and love Atlanta housewives. I had to check out Kandi's restaurant. Aesthetically very trendy and one of the tvs are even playing Bravo! I was eating it all up. Service was 5/5 from the friendly hostess to our server. Heads up they do charge 18% gratuity regardless but I had no issues with it as our server was extremely attentive. I wish I could remember his name! The cocktails played into the old lady gang lifestyle. I ordered the housewife cocktail for $14 it was delicious. I also ordered the lit cocktail and it was similar to a Long Island. The food really surprised me! So I am definitely disappointed, because I have heard a lot of positive feedback. It wasn't that crowded and I was there with a party of four. We were undecided with drinks, but water for table didn't come out until our food was served. The presentation of the food was great, but our food was not piping hot and even one dish was cold. I'm so excited that I had the opportunity to visit the the Old Lady Gang. Two things are certain the food is good and the customer service is great. The staff was very kind, helpful and friendly which to me is very important and you can see that caring for customers is a value at OLG. We ordered the Fried Green Tomato, Fried Fish Dinner, and Fish and Grits. I am going to review each item in the dish individually to attempt to give an accurate review of the food since I've been seeing some mixed reviews. The mac and cheese was really good, it was creamy, cheesy and rich. You could actually taste a hint of the evaporated milk which I actually enjoyed, the fish was crisp soft, flaky, and perfectly seasoned. I also enjoyed the corn bread, it was the perfect texture and was really good. Cons: the collard greens were over seasoned, so pairing it with the other dishes that were each individually tasty and bomb was overpowering tbh. Additionally, the pulled chicken on green tomatoes was a bit too rich, the seasoning was too saturated. Overall, I'm happy with my experience and would love to visit again. I loved everything about this place but the communication. I go to brunch each month with friends and prior to our outing I reach out to the restaurant to get information about parking, groups, timings, etc. When I tell you this restaurant does not respond to email messages, Instagram messages, Facebook messages, and they don't answer the phone. There is a contact us option on their website, but they don't respond to that either. So we basically had to go in blind. I didn't like that at all. When I arrived, they wouldn't seat me until everyone in the party arrived. That was fine, but I would have appreciated knowing that prior to getting there. So, we waited for others to arrive all while the restaurant is getting busier. We were eventually sat, within ten minutes, and our server greeted us at our table within five minutes. I enjoyed my food. Some of the people at our table said their food was too salty and one person had a challenge with her burger. The server gave her a bit of a hard time sending it back; which we didn't understand but okay. It was like she didn't want to take the food back, but it was not prepared correctly. The space inside is okay. The decor is nice; pictures of family members on the walls. It was cute. We definitely had space to move around at our table. The people around us were sat a bit close, but it wasn't horrible. We had no problem at all parking on the street in front of the restaurant, but they also have a lot behind it that you have to pay to get into. If you are driving too fast, you will pass the driveway to turn into the lot. So, drive slowly. I would try them again knowing I need to arrive early to park for free on the street and my entire party needs to be arriving at the same time. The price was not unreasonable either. I spoke with the manager who said she was new at that time. I told her how I tried to reach someone to ask questions and she admitted they do not utilize or check any of the methods I tried. We had a solid experience. It's a celebrity restaurant, so we expected it would be expensive. But had a great time! I thought this was the best food and drinks we had this visit. The good: The service. We sat at the bar and the service was okay not great. We had to ask for utensils and more drinks. But when asked, the server was happy and pleasant to oblige. Also, it was weird that I got regular silver utensils and the person I was with got plastic utensils. Very weird. The great: The food was beyond delicious. Everything was great. Everything was tasty. I am not a true RHOA watcher, but I did watch the earlier years with Kandi so I knew who Mama Joyce was. This was so close to where I was staying that I had to give it a try. I'm glad I did! Staff was super nice and food was ready very quickly. I started with the fried green tomatoes that have a nice add of pulled chicken and feta(?) on top. I then went with the fried fish plate with Mac and collard greens. Things were quite salty, but I'm a fan of salt so it didn't bother me. The fish was perfectly done and spiced. The Mac was okay and the corn muffin was really good. I've never had collard greens so I don't know if they are typical, but I thought they were delicious! One thing I thought was odd was the use of plastic silverware for eat in. It was a bit tough to cut the tomatoes with a plastic knife and just a bit off al around. I got the peach bread pudding to go and that was a bit disappointing, but it might be one of those things that just doesn't travel well. I don't think this location is the one featured on the tv show. Parking at this location is hard to find but once you do it's ample. But it cost $10 at 2pm on Saturday. Entrance is under the stairs in the back. Downstairs kinda looks like a watering hole. There's nothing upscale about it, we were sat by the stairs. However, don't let the looks of this place deter you. The food is out of this world delicious. I am a recovering vegetarian and I recently decided to give seafood a try. So I used this place as a first stop on my pescatarian journey. I ordered the fried salmon bites as a starter, the catfish with smoked gouda grits as an entree with a side of sweet potato souflee. My only complaint is that my starter came out at the same time as my entree. However the flavor of the fish was so exciting to my taste buds. I don't know what seasonings they use but it is seasoned like an old grandma would season it. It was really that good. Some of the best I've ever had to be honest. The dip that paired with the salmon bites was so good I asked to take some home. The smoked gouda grits were creamy and thick just like I like them. Chicken wings were a must get. It was finger licking good. The drink was pretty + sweet. The deviled eggs with shrimp is recommended and I thought it was pretty well flavored but I didn't enjoy the texture because the egg white is fried. The fried chicken was decent, not the most amazing but crispy. One thing I would recommend is for them to give us actual plates separate from the dishes that came out because eating on a long dish while sharing with others is a bit weird. We didn't order much so we made do with it but it was still a bit frustrating eating with no plate. My son and I went there from out of town just craving some good local food. The host was very nice and the place was clean and we got seated. Our waitress Aja was also the bartender and from the get go not very nice! She was condescending and kept treating us like we were out of place being there. However, the instance that led me to leave 1 star is our waitress couldn't care less about us and when I asked and received the bill she had so generously already given herself an 18% tip that was added into the total she wanted me to pay. I asked her what the charge was since it was just my young son and I and she said they add tip on. No where did it say tip included especially for only 2 people and like I said, she treated us not very nicely. We were in a rush so I didn't argue and I would've left her a tip either way, but to just add a tip on for two people because she didn't like us and didn't want us to be. There is disgusting. You took advantage of me more than one time during my dining experience and I said NOTHING. What I have learned is this; one has to choose their battles. I was excited to check out OLG for good southern food and the RHOA reference. The atmosphere is great upstairs, super bright and lively. We got there when there was a change in shifts so we werent able to sit at the bar upstairs, but could sit downstairs. Downstairs is much darker, so a different vibe than brunch/lunch. I wish the hours for the switch were posted somewhere. The waitresses and hosts were really helpful in finding us room to meet up with friends later. We ended up just getting a few apps to share. We got the chicken wings, deviled eggs and fried green tomatoes. I love the texture of the tomatoes: fried outside and juicy inside! The deviled eggs were okay, I tasted more of the crunchy coating than the egg yolk, and was hoping for a punch of mustard or something. The coating and bacon bits were giving the same flavor, so it felt 1-note. The chicken wings were pretty good, still smokey but a little sweet as well. Overall, the apps were ok, but felt like they all tasted the same (smokey, salty, bbq), i was hoping for more flavor variation. I'm giving OLG 5 stars! Mainly because the Mac & Cheese and the fried fish were superb! I joined my family straight from the airport. They put in my order, which did take about 30 mins to come out. My drink, something about about a Peach and vodka lol was good, strong, but very sweet. Others in my party had a few complaints, no complaints from me. I enjoyed my time. I arrived at 9:30. Dined here with a party of 5 yesterday, Friday lunch. Staff was very relaxed & not very attentive. Seemed as though they were hanging out. You have to grab them or call their attention for your needs. And the restaurant wasn't busy. Pretty empty. Food was disappointing. Grits Luke warm, inconsistent . Fish was dried out strips. Overly seasoned batter for all fried items. Fried green tomatoes delicious!!! Overly salted but good. Deviled eggs were fresh & good. Cornbread = inedible. Hard, over mixed and tough. Seemed to be microwaved Collard greens very disappointing. Drinks, the table agreed they were ok, full Alcohol . This place is definitely a sad eating destination in Atlanta. read more
