I have had some awesome food here as well as some horrible service, so my rating is really an average of all of those experiences. I honestly eat here for the fried pickles (love them!). I recently had the taco salad and it was very bland, as was the spinach artichoke dip. If you go during the evening for drinks, they have a great line up of beers. You will never run out of new ones to try! The bar is also comfortable, and I love that this is in an old, historic building, adding to its charm. It is a younger crowd, full of 20-somethings most nights, but not overly trendy. Anyone can fit in here. They have an outdoor area with picnic tables, but I do not recommend it, as it lacks a decent view. If you love beer, definitely give this place a visit or two. I would not go here just for the food, especially on the weekends; the service is horrendously slow! read more

A nice place to spend time with family/friends and kick back for lunch. Stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon with 3 others. We did the bloody mary bar- they give you salted cups with your vodka of choice to mix your own. Solid variety of mixers and an acceptable amount of garnishes, sauces, etc. I was happy with mine and it was pretty affordable around 5 bucks! Ordered spicy breaded chicken sandwich which has pepper jack, cajun sauce, and bacon. The bacon was cooked a little less than I'd like but it was still a great sandwich! The fries are good too and they have home made, not hidden valley, ranch. Then I ordered some type of lager beer and I am SO IMPRESSED with their beer menu. They have so many kinds of beers to choose from its ridiculous. while i applaud these guys coming back after the flood to establish a joint in new bo, the food was mediocre at best. spicy lucy or her cousin or whatever was what i had....the menu warned of something really hot at first bite. well, not only was there no heat to it, there wasn't much flavor either. the service is quiker than the chrome horse across the street, and the atmosphere is good. i guess that's why there are condiments on the table. read more

This place has gone way, way downhill. Parlor City has always been a go-to when we have family in town, but I'm not sure we'll ever go back. The service is terrible and the food isn't much better. Our drinks would sit empty for long periods of time while our server was MIA. When she did show up, she might refill half the drinks and come back to ask how our food was as she walked away from our table. It felt like we were bothering her, to be honest. Our food wasn't good - there were two orders for stuffed burgers and neither were stuffed at all. Everything was lazily lopped on top. What's the point of calling it a stuffed burger (an $11 "juicy Lucy") if it's just a plain ol' overcooked cheeseburger? All dishes were served with the saddest, smallest serving of cold, limp fries. It's like nobody here cares anymore. Clearly the kitchen didn't know or care about how to prepare the menu items correctly and our waitress didn't care that it might be wrong or that we actually needed drink service more than once. I would ponder that maybe they were short-staffed that night, but it's been just like this the past 3-4 times we've dined here. I'd much rather choose a local place over a chain restaurant, but we most likely won't be back here. read more

I'm a big fan of this place, other than how loud it is. It's loud because it's pretty popular (that's a good kind of loud) and they also have live music fairly often. Food is good, beer list is fantastic and having the ability to get flights of anything on tap is really, really nice. Accommodating of bicycling patrons as well. Good beer, but dismal service. I ordered a steak that was not only undercooked, but cold in the middle. Waitress was inattentive despite the restaurant being only moderately busy. Sides were cold, vegetables came out of a bag. Some of the highly decent beers they have are stale because no one consumes them. Would hit the NewBo market across the street instead. read more

Went for lunch w/ a friend the other day (not our 1st time there) around 1:15 in the afternoon. There were about 8 tables of customers seated when we arrived, so we were able to sit right away. Wait staff took our order & got our drinks promptly...and it went down hill from there. 45 minutes later we got our food (by that time there were 4 other tables of guests in the place), clearly they have issues with timely turnovers from the kitchen & wait staff....needless to say the "Juicy lucy" was NOT juicy & all the cheese had oozed out during cooking, and it wasn't even hot. The soda was FLAT, and was hard to get a refill. We also had to eat our lunch w/ our coats on because it was so cold in there (was like that previous visit too). Overall- pretty good food, but the service is very lacking! read more

My sons rehearsal dinner was held here. I used to enjoy going to P.C. First they did not give us the area promised so we had no privacy for our party. Second was an order of what I thought were good nachos with a fly in it! Third was part my mistake, paying for the meal with cash. At first I thought the tip would be included on a $600.00 rehearsal dinner bill and it wasn't? So I give one of the two servers between 15 & 20% tip, she acknowledged we were good. I've seen this place way more busy and it was slow going on the food, they kept us in drinks. After I leave they hit my ex wife up for a tip saying I shorted them and they thought they deserved more, that's not cool at all. I might stop in for music and a meal but I will never take another large group in there, ever! I called and asked to talk to a manager the next day and complained about what happened. My wife and I had lunch at Parlor city on a Friday. It was busy, but they seemed to have enough servers. Even so, the service was very slow. They have a nice selection of beers on tap. I had the Spicey Lucy. It was so overcooked, all the cheese in the middle had leaked out and was left somewhere in the kitchen. It was also served with "crinkle" fries. Really, crinkle fries? Serving grocery store frozen fries in a pub? I expected fresh cut potatoes. I doubt I'll go back. read more

Excellent beer selection always. The food is very CR, with fried food and burgers as a center piece. Oh, I got a pizza to go once and it was awesome! The fried cheese sticks are hand-battered (I believe) and very indulgent. I've never have a problem getting a seat because it is a large place. It can get loud at times, most especially with the live music. To the point where you can't hear the person across from you and people are looking for tables in the back to move to. That always bothers me. There are several bars that seem to suffer from beer being not-ice-cold in the summer and this place is one...I don't know if it's going in and out of the cooler or how it happens, but Parlor isn't the only place where it happens. The staff are friendly for the most part - some are very attentive and some don't seem to be into it as much, but you'll have that. I'm getting used to bars that have kids in them, and this place definitely has that from time to time. Overall a place I like to stop, especially with my beer-nerd buddies! read more

Great variety, good service and the food was pretty flavorful.

We have eaten here twice. 1st had the fish tacos and they were dry amd cold it did not come with the sauce it stated it would come with. The vegetables were not cooked and were cold. We went there last night because we thought maybe the last time they just had a bad night. We brought a couple with us, we ordered and our food came. My husbands burger was raw, when I say raw I mean patty was made and slightly greyed on the outside and not even heated throughout. Then my friends veggie burger and mine was mush, not cooked hardly at all. We told the waitress and she said that the table next to ours just complained about the exact same thing. The only thing good about this place is the location. The food is AWFUL!!! read more

My wife and I thought we would try out this restaurant. We found a table and attempted to sit down when a waitress came up to us and rudely said we could not sit there, that someone else is going to sit at the table. The only people left without a table were the 4 individuals that came in after us. There is a sign as you come in that says "Seat Youself". The waitress did not try to accommodate us after that. Was in last night with a group a friends. We ordered left hand beer and got free glassware because the beer rep was there my buddy even got a free shirt. Pretty cool not to many bars do events where you actually get swag. The place was packed we had great service our drinks were never empty and our food came out hot and fast. I go to parlor city regularly most of the bartenders know me by name. Shanon is an amazing bartender. That being said if I don't sit at the bar and specifically get Shannon as my bartender it is the worst service of any restaurant I've ever been to in any city. The food varies wildly in quality from night to night but the service is consistently deplorable! The atmosphere is great the outdoor seating is great. The location of the bar is great. If it weren't for these things I would never! Go to this bar. Would not recommend for a family. Or someone looking to eat quickly, cheaply or eat quality food. If you want somewhere with lots of beer and a bartender who can poor it into a glass with the speed of drying cement, you have found your new favorite bar. read more

Went there with a medium-sized group of 9 people (including young kids) to watch the Hawkeye game. The server was great - very patient with our delays, multiple refills and varied food order. The food order was correct as were the bills. The food itself was typical bar food - I had a Spicy Lucy and was pleased with both the cheese and moisture. The rest of my party was pleased with their food as well. I was the only one sampling the multitude of draft beers and was very happy with the number of selections and the variety. The atmosphere was good also. I was a little worried that it was going to be too much "Pub" for kids and not enough "Eatery" so I was pleasantly surprised to find MANY families there with children during the day. I was also pretty happy that there is No Smoking in the bars in Iowa either. My only negative (and a slight one at that) is that on cold days such as today, they need an air lock on the front door to keep the cold out. It's nothing that detracted from my experience but I'm sure it is worse for those sitting at the bar! Overall - good job restoring the old bank. This is a neat little Pub & Eatery. read more

I've eaten at Parlor City at least a dozen times. I live in Cedar Rapids. When they first opened, it was awesome. But now, the service is Terrible. Our breakfast took over an hour to get to our table. We had kids with us, and we survived, but I won't bring kids there again. It's too hard on them. The food was fine. It's off the truck, ya know....crinkle fries, potato chips, blah. They have a huge beer list. So if you really want to go there, go at night, go to drink, and expect the food to just be there to soak up the alcohol. Don't sit outside. you will be ignored. We ate there for lunch recently, and the burger I had was drenched in smoke flavoring that made it taste bitter. Our waitress, sweet as she was, was a complete idiot. Played with her hair constantly (ew!) and mumbled. Oh, and the "frips" that they are so famous for....I think they used to be house-made. Now they are potato chips. I'm just done with them.
