Loved the mom and pop authentic Greek restaurant. Very cozy and welcoming. If you're looking for Greek in town this is it. I had the chicken souvlaki and mom had the gyro. Taste was good but I'd ask for more tzatziki sauce for both. The breading for the plates and meatball appetizer were really soft and fresh, olives were perfect (not super salty), seasoned and healthy meal overall. The hosts and waiter are so friendly and loved hearing their history coming to America. I'd be interested on coming back for pizza and steak and cheese. Only con is that the platter and desert price seem a little high especially after reviewing older menus and amount you get for it. I have not been here in 20 years and it is still open so thought I would go back. The inside has not changed at all but it is decorated nice. This place is like a landmark here in Fredericksburg. The staff is friendly. I ordered a 14 steak and cheese sub with fries and my daughter ordered a veggie sub. My son ordered the grape leaves. The food is alright but not better than other places. Manny and Sophie are always welcoming and great hosts. While I don't get in as often as I would like, I have never had a bad experience here. The portions are well above the price that could be charged. The subs, the pizza, the gyro's you just can't go wrong. They definitely make you feel like part of the family. They served us moldy pita with the tzatziki. We pointed it out and the waiter argued with us! He said that this was just spots from the plate. Blue, fuzzy spots? And wait, how are dirty plates any better than mold? He insisted on bringing us more pita when really we didn't want more. We wanted an apology and explanation. I would avoid this place! read more

I went here for dinner with 3 work colleagues relying on the 4.3 rating. What we experienced was not worthy of a 4.3 rating. We ordered the fried cheese and it was phenomenal. The steak sub had what appeared to be a single slice of "Steak Um", a bunch of cheese, a little lettuce and 2 slices of tomato. The chicken sandwich had very little flavor - the report was that at least the baklava had more flavor that the sandwich. The pita with pork was ok... When we walked in there was a wonderful smell of garlic, but apparently that was coming from the barbershop next door, or they walked the chicken past the garlic cloves. That was the food... The service, well...let's just say, the food was better than the service. Don't get me wrong...they were sweet people for sure. I would seriously not try this place again...unfortunately. I stopped in here for lunch on a weekday after reading about them on social media and seeing so many positive reviews. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the amazing smell of pizza being baked and it really tempted me to switch my lunch plans from a healthy Greek salad to pizza, but I stuck with my initial desire to order salad. I sat down and was greeted by an older gentleman (owner?) who was very helpful and knowledgeable about their menu and the ingredients (example: I saw "black olives" on the menu as coming with the salad I wanted, but didn't want those little California black olives that are typically put on pizza, so I asked and he explained these come from Spain and are a lot bigger, which they were). He even brought me a sample of olives to try and they were really good. I also wanted some tzatziki, as this is something I prefer to try at every Mediterranean restaurant. The tzatziki was amazing! Yogurt was thick and it was loaded with tasty garlic, perfect amount of seasonings and fresh cucumbers. The salad I chose was their Greek salad and I asked for grille chicken to go on top, so he grilled up some souvlaki and put it on top. The chicken was very tasty, fresh and grilled perfectly. It was all breast meat and it tasted great and there were a lot of pieces for my salad. The salad itself was pretty good. I prefer the thicker (more emulsified) Greek dressing, but this had had a lot of flavor, as it had plenty of herbs in it. The only thing is they use raw rings of white onion cut in half, which are rather pungent, but I cut them up smaller to have a small amount in each bite. The lettuce and all the veggies in the salad were very fresh. The place was really clean and felt like a homely, family restaurant... especially with the family mural on the wall. The restroom was tiny, but again, very clean. Service was great. I asked the owners how long they've been here, they said 40 year! How awesome! I'll definitely return and I'll be ordering pizza on my next trip! read more

While visiting Fredericksburg, VA we stumbled upon this unsuspecting gem. Don't let the modest building deter you, the owners have been serving up Greek food for more than 30 years! The interior is a little dated but I found it quaint, cozy and welcoming. On this particular evening the owners were there and served us . What a treat! Sophia was classy, sassy and made you feel like family. She entertained us with stories of growing up in Greece while her husband prepared our meals. She was very attentive and fast with refills. The bathroom was in the back and it seemed like you were going the wrong way or in their private area. It reminded me of a lot of local family restaurants in South America and Europe and I didn't mind. I ordered the gyro platter which came with tzatziki sauce , a Greek salad and fries. Everything was delicious and the homemade tzatziki sauce was the best I have ever had! I found the price reasonable and the portion sizes good. I told Sophia I would be visiting Athens and the islands in Greece in the fall and she proceeded to ask me about my trip , tell me I paid too much and make me promise her I would call her the next time so she can best advise me on the best deals . Parthenon was delicious! Sometimes Greek food can be hit or miss and this restaurant was definitely a hit. It seemed like the two people running the restaurant were an old married couple. They were super sweet and were extremely attentive to what we needed including extra plates or silverware. We got the spanakopita for an appetizer and split mousaka (eggplant and potatoes with ground beef in a bed of sauce). We also got the baklava which was one of the best bakalava's I've ever had. After seeing so many positive reviews, I decided to give this place a try. The atmosphere: This place is super cozy! It feels like going are stepping into someones home and has a ton of character. I was greeted by who I imagine was the owner from others reviews. She was very friendly and welcoming. There are a few tables inside for dining in. Food: I ordered the chicken souvlaki pita and tzaziki with pita. The tzaziki was fresh with delicious pita bread. I would highly recommend this item as a starter! I used some extra to drizzle on the pita sandwich and I wasn't disappointed! The sandwich had a good amount of chicken on it well seasoned as well as some lettuce, tomato and feta. It was solid and I'd grab it again! Pricing: very fair! I think both items weee around $13 before tip. Ordering/pickup/parking: I attempted to order online but didn't see anywhere that I was family with ordering from (also wasn't on the big platforms) so I called to pickup. My husband and I have lived in the area for about 8 months, give or take. We went to the Giant grocery store off of Route 1 the other day for the first time. It was pouring down raining, but we passed the Parthenon Restaurant, which was closed and yet it still caught my eye. I'm a sucker for cute little 'ma and pa restaurants', or what some might call a 'little hole in the wall'. The place looked darling to me. When we returned from the grocery store, I immediately googled it. Why is the little restaurant not getting the light that it deserves? How could I have not read about it during my searches for great restaurants in the area? This place is adorable, charming and the food is fantastic! It's Friday night and my first choice for dinner tonight. I couldn't wait to get off work and try it out. My husband and I got there and we were seated at a booth in front of the windows. Little lace curtains hang on the windows and artificial flowers are in a vase on the table. Looking outside through the windows are Greek sculptures and art. The place is super small, but so cozy and inviting. Behind the bar area doing the cooking, was a senior gentleman, who I assume to be the owner, Emmanuel Psaras. And on the floor serving up beverages to another table of patrons was a senior woman, who I assume to be his wife Sophia. There were 2 other gentleman helping out. The young girl who seated us, I take it was possibly a granddaughter. You could just tell this was a family run business; family pictures are to your right when you first enter the dining room. The place is clean and we were immediately immersed in the delicious aromas radiating through the air. Our first meal, and I can already tell that this will become one of my regular eatery's. Yes, a lot of the food (like the meats and the pita bread) are quite possibly made earlier in the day and reheated, but it doesn't take away from the flavors at all. My husband and I split everything, but our beverages. We both ordered an unsweetened iced tea, which is fresh brewed in house. It is served with a lemon, and on the table, there are sugar and artificial sweeteners available. For our appetizer, we originally had planned to order the saganaki, which is an imported cheese that literally comes to your table on fire! However, after seeing the tzatziki meatballs on the menu, we opted to go with those. We were not disappointed! For our entree, we split the Chicken Souvlaki Platter for $12.95, which comes with fries and a side salad. We ended the meal with homemade Baklava for dessert. Everything was so fresh and delicious! We couldn't have enjoyed dinner more! Greek music was playing over the speakers and Sophia, was dancing about. My husband, who has visited and eaten in Greece years ago, said that it has the feel of being in a true Grecian restaurant in the middle of Greece. It takes a lot to impress him, and he was impressed. That alone says so much. While dining, we noticed that the booth next to us ordered pizza and we undoubtedly MUST try that next time. My family and I decided to try this place mostly because of its proximity to where we were before; and yes the quintessential Greek decor, very warm and inviting couple, and home cooking were something we all looked to have. The Mythos beer I ordered came in a frosty mug (++ because I was so thirsty) and the salads came out quickly. Not much to write about--a nice chilled tomato, onion slice and lettuce with a light dressing. My mom order a gyro which didn't come with the salad; of course my wife offered to share and asked for a bowl. Waitress offered to get her a salad (we thought on the house, but $3 something charge appeared on the bill--our fault for mistaking upselling for kindness). My daughter and I ordered the pork souvlaki platter. My wife ordered the eggplant parm. Gyro and souvlaki were both dry--so we asked for some Tzatziki on the side--which came with a smile and and an explanation that it doesn't traditionally come with it--well, I wouldn't need it if it wasn't overcooked, dry and sprinkled with dry feta. The Gyro only came with a tiny dollop of the sauce--and then we all got a $1/each upcharge for the extra sauce. Eggplant was just okay. $85 before tip for 4 people with 2 people having tap water, and $10 of that in beverages. All in all, I would have loved to give this place a ravingly great review, but I'm just going to say "OK". Sorry Parthenon! I'm sure other items are better. read more

I've been craving Greek food and living in FXBG I pass this place often. Unfortunately there is nothing remarkable about this place. To be fair we stopped in for lunch and we are in the times of COVID so I understand if restaurants aren't creating excellent dishes and pushing lots of food. I had a beef/lamb platter and my wife had the pork, both dishes were a bit dry, but still tasty. I believe this place is known for their Pizza so we will try it again and see if the pie is as good as some of the other reviews are saying. read more

It pains me to write a bad review about this place since the owner and his wife are such a sweet couple but I've got to be honest. We arrived mid- week around lunchtime and no one else was in the restaurant. I ordered a Greek salad with gyro meat and an appetizer of stuffed grape leaves and my wife ordered moussaka. The salad and grape leaves were meh. They both lacked any flavor and I could have easily made the salad at home. I didn't even bother finishing the salad. The moussaka was put in the microwave and not fresh at all. The top was very spongy and had the taste of powdered mashed potatoes. This little restaurant is the place to be. It's a cozy little time capsule. The couple that own and run the restaurant are so very sweet. My husband was told the pizza was the best here. That person did not lie!!! The pizza was made with love! It was so picture perfect that we did not take pictures. The crust was crispy all over, not one bit soggy and held the toppings. This is now his #1 pizza spot in Fredericksburg! I had the stuffed cabbage rolls with a house salad and garlic bread. It was so heavenly and aromatic! The best Gyro on the planet- Sophie is the best. Her daughters have a bakery 2 doors down and the deserts are as amazing as the food. My wife tries something new every time and every time she is amazed. If you don't want the best Gyro you ever had- try the Greek Pizza. The Parthenon has the best pizza in Fredericksburg for sure- and it's the only place to get the Greek Pizza. AND this is the only place around that COOKS their Gyro meat on the vertical spit ( i guess they could but it frozen like everyone else by Sophie says NO) . She kept us entertained with her stories, she made sure we had everything we needed and her love and care for her business and the customers was very apparent. If you want a great mom & pop Greek restaurant, look no further. When you walk in the owners make you feel like family. Some reviews have criticized the decor, but it's all apart of its charm. It tells me that I am in the right place. I have never had a bad meal, or bad service. I have never had anything that tasted or looked microwaved. Everything tastes fresh & homemade. Oh, & the desserts made by the owners' daughter who owns the bakery next door are outstanding! The lemon cake melts in your mouth.
