My favorite thing was truly the mango lassi. It was truly amazing and you can buy it buy the gallon. If I was not flying I would have porches some to take home. Now on to the food and the service. I enjoyed all the veggie options from the buffet and it was my first time eating at an Indian buffet. The vibe is calm in the restaurant was clean and inviting. I loveeee Indian food and was so excited to come and try this place after seeing the good reviews. To me this was just okay. I have eaten Indian food in middle eastern and Asian countries so this is prob why I feel this way. The flavors aren't as fresh or strong as they are in other countries. I got the hottest spice levels and it wasn't hot at all to me. Usually with Indian food hot will have you sweating The service was good the waitress was nice. Been coming here for the 4 years we've lived in Georgia and will miss it when we leave. It is wonderful food every single time! The buffet is great, although nothing is spicy because people here can't handle it, but they will help you make it spicier if you ask. Going for dinner at night is also fantastic, moderately priced, and easy to accommodate any spice level! My favorite thing on the menu is the lamb Roganjosh, it's delightfully sweet and meaty, and when ordered as "spicy" it gets to just the right level of almost making your nose run, but not wrecking you. read more

I wasn't sure what sort of expectations I should have for an Indian restaurant in Valdosta. That isn't a slam; it just seems unlikely that there is a variety of Indian places to foster competition. We were staying with some locals, and they had gotten take out here once, so we opted to dine in one Saturday evening. The restaurant is located in a strip mall near town. I did not drive, and we took local roads, so I do not have a lot of navigation advice. There seemed to be sufficient parking shared among the businesses there. They seemed to be doing a fairly good business but still had multiple tables to choose from for our party of 5. We got a variety of dishes, including an appetizer plate which everyone seemed to like. The staff was attentive and helpful. The main dishes came out fairly quickly after the appetizer. Everyone enjoyed their dishes (saag paneer, paneer makhani, butter chicken, and vegetable korma). I thought this place could definitely compete with places we go in more urban / suburban environments. If I were in the area again, I'd consider returning here. read more

Okay, this is a partial review. We went for dinner and due a number of things, we only could stay for appetizers so keep that in mind. So what happened? My daughter's boyfriend had to leave at a certain time for a school related event, so we were in a hurry. It took quite a while for our server to come to us, then even longer to get our drinks. Then the manager came and took our appetizer order and stated they had a huge order come in before us, so food would not be out for 20 minutes. At first I was angry, there were only four tables filled in the whole restaurant, but about 10 minutes later we saw a huge to go order go out the door and it all made sense. We only got appetizers before we had to leave. But when the appetizers came, they were delicious - I mean, smack me in the face, call me Aunt Sally, but don't forget to call me for dinner good. While only had a few items, naan with lamb, naan with spinach, dips, and fried vegetables but they were fantastic. And no, there is no excuse for making people wait 45 minutes to get appetizers, but the quality of the food was pretty amazing. We are not in town often, but we are already making plans to give them another try. Because food this good deserves a second chance. We ordered lamb curry and chicken masala and it was basic. For the price, the food portion was small and there was barely any meat. Make sure you don't have anything planned after coming here because they do have slow service. Since this is the only Indian place within an hour of me, I've learned to make my own and unfortunately won't be coming here anymore. read more

Wish my first experience was better, however the wait to get my food was ridiculous. I placed an order via phone and was told a certain time span. We came 5 minutes after they said the food would be done but unfortunately I had to wait 40+ minutes to finally get my order. 5-6 people came and left before I got my order. A true treasure for home made Indian food!! We found this restaurant on Yelp on our drive from Miami, FL to Atlanta, GA. We were out for the Xmas hols all the way from MI and it had been almost a week that we have had proper Indian food. It was almost 8ish in the evening by the time we decided that Indian food is what we wanted for that night. Guess what.. Passage To India came to our rescue.. The food was simply delecious and absolutely tasted like home made. The lady who took our order over the call, understood that we were driving and packed it so well. When I think of Valdosta I don't necessarily associate it as an epicurean capital. Despite this, there are a couple of gems and I believe that Passage 2 India is one of them. I have eaten here twice in the past 8 months as I live in Birmingham but have family in the area. Both times the food and service was surprisingly great. This last time we came in at 9:35 pm with a group of seven. It was apparent they were already cleaning up getting ready to close. They were happy to serve us anyway. The chef came out and talked to us and just asked what kind of meat and spicy level we wanted. He fixed us each something different in addition to a couple orders of naan and fritters. Everyone was very happy with their food and left completely stuffed. Passage 2 India will definitely be a regular stop when in Valdosta. read more

I've taken people from places with many, many restaurants available to them at all times, big places in the Northeast, and when they go back up there, they miss this little out-of-the way Indian restaurant in Valdosta. It's that good. While the buffet is fast and looks cheaper on the menu, it's a better deal to order from the menu if you have 15-20 more minutes. That way, you get hot, fresh curry, at the spice level you want, with newly-cooked rice. You often get enough in a menu portion for at least one take-home meal. (Hint: Make eggs benedict, except use leftover curry as hollandaise. It's amazing.) If you're a vegetarian in Valdosta, this is the place to go. Try a few of my favorite dishes made with paneer (cheese, made quite like Ricotta but pressed like tofu) - the Saag (Spinach) Paneer, Paneer Makhani, and Mutter Paneer. The vegetable samosas are pretty addictive, too. On the meat side of things, I have had a bit of the Tandoori Mixed Grill, which is served sizzling like fajitas, and it's great. You can order dishes mild, medium, spicy, or "Indian Spicy." Recently, it seems like the cooks aren't always distinguishing between the last two, and those options involve different peppers than usual. Not only do they taste different at first, they take on a whole other taste after sitting for a while as take-home leftovers. I don't prefer it, I'd recommend ordering Mild or Medium. At the end of the day, I can honestly say that I've been to quite a few Indian restaurants, but only one that even competes with Passage on the whole package, including taste, portions, and price, and that's Masala in Jacksonville. I have been to Passage 2 India many times and have determined that my favorite time to go is during the lunch buffet! Without a drink, the buffet is around $9 per person and includes many meat-based and vegetarian dishes. My favorite dishes there are the sag paneer, chicken tikka masala, butter chicken, and the lamb vindaloo. If you decide to go for dinner and are not well versed in Indian cuisine, the wait-staff are normally pretty helpful in giving advice in what to order. read more

I'm still trying to find Indian food I like, and I've tried, but Passage 2 India may have started me on a path to redemption. Part of the reason I picked this place was because it's one of the highest rated spots in Valdosta....and it's an Indian restaurant....in Georgia. This has to be something worth checking out. Yelp/Urbanspoon were right, it's worth it. $9 lunch buffet let me sample a little bit of everything and there wasn't a dish I didn't like. Amazingly enough, my favorite was the vegetarian korma, and I am a HUGE lover of meat, so that right there says something. The lamb was cooked to perfection, nice rich cubes of meat but soft and juicy. Almost everything was well spiced and flavorful. The only item I can really turn my nose up for was the tandoori chicken. Yes, what is pretty much the staple of Indian food in America was bland here. It looked perfect, was tender inside and had that nice hard crust outside, but just had no flavor. But that didn't matter, because everything else was delicious. I would have liked to see a few more meat dishes on the bar (there were only 3) but that just means next time I'm in Valdosta I'll have to order off the regular menu. There's a lot of goat dishes and goat is not something you see on many menus, even ethnic ones. One more highlight - the green chutney. We had to ask what it was and were told it's a house made blend of "pretty much everything green" - green tomatoes, green peppers, parsley, a hint of mint. I was passing through town during lunch time. When I walked in they said they only served the buffet at lunch and a young waiter (a kid) came up and said that I could order to go. I sat down to look at the menu. Once I had decided I walked up to the waiter to place my order. He ver disrespectfully said "we only have the buffet. I heard the other guy tell you that." This is the same person who told me 5 minutes earlier I could order to go. I was too shocked to even argue with the kid. I took my business elsewhere and will not be back. It's not worth the stop. Passage 2 India was my first introduction to Indian cuisine, and oh man, am I hooked now! The menu is expansive and well-organized. They've taken the time to fully explain the dishes so you always know what you're getting into before you order. Anything that would typically register as hot to the western palate can be ordered mild, medium, or hot. If you like spicy food at all, though, don't sell yourself short and get medium. Go for the hot! The Vindaloo Chicken is the perfect example of this. It's really, really spicy, but it's the kind of heat that hits you on the first bite and never intensifies or becomes painfully hot. The service is very good, and both times I've visited, it's been a calm, quiet, laid back dining experience. Plates will be on the table when you arrive or shortly thereafter, because all dishes are served family-style. My boyfriend and I usually order two very different entrees so that we can sample more from the menu without having to shuffle plates around like at most places! Things to absolutely not miss: The chai. OMG, the chai. Cast aside your notions of thick, sweet, syrupy spiced milk with a hint of tea. Their chai is served hot and unsweetened. It's rich and delicious, and perfectly seasoned. We added one packet of sugar to each cup, which perfectly offset the bitterness of the tea without upstaging the spices. All in all, it is heavenly. The garlic naan. Thin, fresh-baked flat bread, absolutely COVERED in fresh garlic. Words fail it, but be sure to order some. It's amazing. The aforementioned Vindaloo Chicken. Tender, juicy, perfectly seasoned chicken in a fire-y curry. What's not to love? ANYTHING INVOLVING LAMB. I swear this place can do no wrong when it comes to lamb. I've tried and LOVED several of their lamb dishes, and will keep coming back for more. Long story short, this is absolutely one of the best restaurants in Valdosta, and I really hope your adventurous streak gets the best of you and you give it a shot! read more

Too Legit. Too Legit to quit. This is an Indian resto in Valdosta, GA. Automatically 3 stars for that. I went to battle with their lunch buffet and was very pleased. They had mostly vegetarian options, I especially liked the zucchini. They did also have some lamb and tandoori chicken. I tried everything except the sag paneer and the iceberg lettuce salad bar. If I can eat my veggies with curry and ghee or with ranch... curry wins. every. damn. time. High points: Zucchini, chana, hot naan to your table (not in the buffet getting funky), pleasant server. They also have wifi, so after lunch I was able to send off some emails, and since it was at the tail of the rush they had no problem with me lurking. No side eyes or too much checking up. They let me do my thing. Weak points: Mango lassi was just too too sweet for me. Artificial Mango flavor perhaps? I don't have lassi on a very regular basis, but this was HUGE and very sweet. Could have passed on it for the next time. Then again, I was in South GA, so they probably just apply the same rules they do with sweet tea: mo' suga honey!
