I've eaten here several times over the years and while it's not a place that's near the top of my "let's go here!" list ... largely due to the price ... it should definitely be a place you consider for business meals or for situations in which you might want to impress someone. My most recent visit was a party of seven - they'd set the table for ten but we had a few cancels. We called in advance to see if they wanted to shrink the table, but they were happy to be flexible and roll with whomever showed up. + points for flexibility and customer service. We didn't all arrive at the same time. The rest of the table was waiting for me - I was a bit surprised that there weren't some drinks and bread already on the table, but perhaps that was a group decision. The cocktail menu is great. I probably should have ordered something from it. Instead I got an old fashioned. Pretty safe drink and hard to mess up, yah? Turns out, not so much. Heavy on the bourbon (though I had a choice of several kinds) light on the syrup and other flavors, and overcome with ice chips which melted quickly further diluting the drink. Yikes. A colleague picked up a blueberry martini which apparently hit the spot on flavor, though was a little too sweet with the sugar rim. The food was brilliant, in general. Prior to the meal everyone enjoyed salads and appetizers. The potstickers in chili oil were delicious and the octopus was PERFECTLY cooked. So easy to mess up. If I recall correctly it was served on a bed of baba ganoush and topped with pine nuts and other assorted delicious things. Stellar. The gentleman to my left ordered the flounder (spicy tamarind chili) which apparently is his go-to and is served scored making it easy to flake fish off onto your fork. Next to that was a spicy roll of some kind. It was substantial as you'd expect for an entree roll and filling. That said, it was apparently a little too spicy for that individual and she needed quite a bit of water to work through it. I ended up trying a piece but didn't find it any spicier than what I was eating... ... which were the tiger prawns in a curry sauce. The server mentioned they came out mild but if I wanted them spicy I could. I did. Wow did they hit the spot. Grilled perfectly in an absolutely delicious curry sauce served with green chutney and tamarind sauce as well. I don't remember what anyone else had, which is fine because most of you stopped reading at the end of the first paragraph. For those of you who made it to here, congratulations! Came here last night with 2 friends and had one of the best dinners we have ever had. It started with a great server Alexandre was amazing. He was attentive and knowledgeable and made the whole dinner at table 26 amazing. The food was amazing from the salmon, mahi mahi, white fish and bouillabaisse. This should be 3 1/2 star but there is no option for that. We went here last night for dinner and the place was packed. Based on our waitress there was construction for the past 2 weeks and this was first day back open. I ordered the special recommended by our waitress, which has made it to Washington 3 times. It was the Thai pineapple lobster curry, the second and 3rd person ordered the fried flounder. We also ordered fried calamari, and fried oyster appetizer and lobster bisque soup. My meal the Thai lobster was nothing fancy just an average curry with pineapple and few pieces of lobster. It felt more like a soup than curry because the little rice they put in the center of the plate was completely covered completely with the curry. The other 2 flounder dishes were delicious and is always a hit, specially the Thai spicy sauce that comes with it. The appetizers were also decent but nothing to brag about. We also had the key lime with sorbet for dessert and it was average. 5/1/2019 We came out to dinner because I wanted to give this place another chance and I would say this was 2 stars max. First of all the waitress was very rude and I usually over look short comings but she seemed to be very unhappy and did not want to provide us average service. We ordered the sushi tower for appetizer and we also ordered crab cake meal with side of button mushrooms. We also ordered the scallops dinner and whole flounder with a side of Yoko mashed potatoes with lobster. For dessert we ordered apple crisp with ice cream, key lime pie and crème brûlée. The sushi tower was close to $45 dollars and it did not taste fresh and quality...I should know because I eat sushi at a Japanese restaurant once a week if not more. It was a small portions and flavor was lacking. The crab cakes I had was $38 dollars and it was a very small portion and they tasted ok but not worth half of what we paid for them. The button mushrooms was very bland and had no flavor at all. I had to add sauce and salt and peppers just to get it down. The flounder was the best out of all the meals and the portion was good size. The side of Yukon mashed potatoes with lobster was again bland and flavor less. Paying $18 dollars for just a side and not having flavor was disappointing. The scallop meal was something I did not taste so no comment on that. The desserts were average and nothing to brag about. First time in Reston and likely the last due to the poor service provided at this restaurant today. If you wish to partake in the specials on the menu you have to join their loyalty program which is $25 (what a joke.) We let that go and decided to order, mistake. The food was decent but the service provided by our waiter Matt was laughable until it was actually disgraceful. He was so rude that he himself let his manger know that he had "messed up" after which he never returned to the table. Damian (the manager) did his best to make up for the whole ordeal but even that was entertaining when he offered free desert (desert was included with every meal for each of the 5 meals we ordered.) I don't need free food but I do expect good service, which I wasn't provided here and for that reason alone I would never recommend nor return. read more

Hands down the best sushi in the DMV area. The volcano roll is the only sushi I crave on a weekly basis. Captain crunch roll for the OGs (pre COVID) smacks as well. Came here for celebratory drinks and apps. The interior of this restaurant is gorgeous. The décor and design are very modern and sophisticated. The bartenders were knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly. I asked for a recommendation for a sweet cocktail and ended up choosing the "oh pear" cocktail. It was not that sweet, and was very strong. I had to have my boyfriend help me. He had the Rockstar, and it was much better. For appetizers we had the smoke rockfish rangoons and the crab & rock shrimp dip. Both were really good, but such small portions! If we hadn't paid happy hour prices I would not have been happy with the value at all. I use to love to go to this restaurant for lunch pre-pandemic. They use to change up the specials with different and fresh options. Now they have the same old tired lunch options. Fish was chewy and stringy. The dynamite roll had no flavor. Grocery store sushi is far better than this. Considering that it's PassionFISH, you would think the fish would be fresh. What's more surprising is that they did NOTHING about it. We informed our waiter yet the management never spoke to us, the food wasn't exchanged, and we paid for the disappointing food. I understand it's an American restaurant and not a Japanese restaurant, so it won't have the best sushi ever. Okay fine, then the least I expect from an American restaurant is good customer service but we didn't even receive an apology. I love coming here for happy hour or restaurant week. I usually don't come any other time bc the price is crazy expensive. However, the quality and taste of all the seafood is almost worth it. I recommend anyone who loves seafood to come here. They also validate parking! My favorites are the ceviche, fish tacos, the sliders, and oysters. I LOVED the food. I loved the ambiance and I loved the Mother's Day pre fixe menu. I brought my queen here to celebrate last Sunday and she was so happy. Their bread is to die for, though I much prefer and miss their whipped white fish butter. I hope they add the complimentary deviled egg with smoked salmon to the menu, we enjoyed that as well. I always get the bronzini so I recommended it to my mom with the lobster mash. However I tried something new and while I'm sure it was well made, I wasn't a huge fan of the Thai curry lobster. The whole thing was too overwhelming with the broth and the pineapples felt off-- but again that is complete personal preference. This is a PassionFish Reston redux. I quick and uncharacteristically brief re-review of a place I really enjoyed when I was there almost exactly a year ago. The watermark for a professional long running restaurant is consistency. I wanted it to be as good as I remembered. Try applying that concept to a High School Reunion. The Bar Program, if anything, has improved. The Pomegranate Margarita was absolutely great. Pom Juice, Patron Reposado, Triple Sec, Simple Syrup and Lemon was straight forward but expertly made. Like your favorite bar band playing the same ripper every night before they take their break. You expect it, you like it, it makes you wiggle and you're happy even if you know the band will take twenty and the drink will be drained. But, there is always the second set. A Pomegranate Margarita, simply can't be beat, ah, until you try a Dirty Ceo. The perfect Mar-tart-tini. It made me feel like Trump had patted my rump. (I might be the only who missed out, but, I digress). The same tray of Toasted Baguette coins with Smoked Salmon spread arrived and made me feel like I was home. I could have been happy with the bottomless tray and another Pomargarita. The fried Clams, just because I was on the East Coast, they were on the menu and they are such a treat. No strips here either...the whole belly. I believe if I'm gonna eat a clam I want to have the whole belly too. Served with house made Tartar Sauce I had to do multiplication tables in my head while I ate them as slowly as I could. The Charred Octopus (butter soft...and I thought a soft octopus was something you only found in Vegas and involved 4 showgirls).This version had the Octos on a bed of Quinoa and Tabouleh, with Grilled Halloumi (Cyriot Cheese), Tzatziki, and Harissa, and easily the best rendition of Octopus to be found on either Coast...or Vegas for that matter. The Maryland Blue Crab Cake is also hard to compete with. All crab and no filler. Just succulent, sweet meat. Hey, sounds like a young Kardashian. Dessert: A honey Crisp Apple with Honey Vanilla Ice Cream made in house and topped with Cotton Candy. Grant Achatz wished he'd have thought of that, I bet. In the year since I last visited P.F. the restaurant has maintained it's excellent level of service and fare. This is a professional, elegant place with an adult menu. (Yes, yes, they have a Kid's menu too if your sitter bailed at the last minute on your long awaited "date night"). To cook seafood correctly is always a true and difficult test of a kitchen's expertise. This kitchen should conduct a clinic. PassionFish...always delish. read more

Passion fish has yummy sushi! I had the dynamite roll and the passion fish roll and they were both fresh, filling and delicious! I also ordered the calamari. The calamari was served with rice and was very lightly breaded. It was not you're typical calamari but it was good! They also gave the table free bread at the beginning of the meal and fudge squares at the end. Four stars because the butter that came with the bread was gross. It tasted almost barbecue flavored but not in a good way - as a butter lover it was disappointing. The atmosphere is upscale, classy and modern and the service was great. read more

I've been to PassionFish once prior to restaurant week and thought this place was just OK. Came here again this week with coworkers and felt the same - 4 stars ambiance, 3 stars overall Note: For those concerned about paid parking at RTC, you get 3 hours free parking when you dine here. You can park in Zone 500 and get a validation code as you enter the restaurant. We came here on Thursday and it was $22/pp for lunch - the prix fixe meal included an appetizer, an entree from the lunch menu and a dessert of your choice. I went with the blue crab + corn chowder, shrimp and grits and chocolate mousse crunch. Chowder: Tasty, though I didn't find there to be much jumbo lump crab meat and there was a bit too much green onion for my liking Shrimp and grits: Too salty, shrimp was chewy and overcooked. Pass. Highlight of my meal was the Chocolate Mousse Crunch with vanilla-bean anglaise and strawberry coulis -- rich flavors, beautiful presentation. My coworker's Pumpkin Cheesecake was even better! I have to admit, the desserts here are delicious. All in all, three stars because I think some of the dishes here are quite overpriced, but PF may be worth trying out during restaurant week. read more

Cute restaurant with good ambiance located in Reston town center. They have a great happy hour, all the happy hour cocktails are $5 and are tasty! We sat at the bar and had great service, the two guys working the bar were very attentive and accommodating. I opted for the pomegranate marg and it was a little sweet but good. We got an assortment of apps, which were all satisfying. The seafood here is so fresh. I enjoyed the fish fry the most, which came out sizzling hot, crispy on the outside and flaky white fish meat in the inside. I also enjoyed the crab and rock shrimp dip, which had fresh crab meat with seasoned shrimp topped with jalapeños. The pork belly sliders were super flavorful, but a little dry. If it was topped with a sauce, it would be perfect. Honestly, you can't go wrong with any of the apps though. read more

I haven't been to Reston Town Center in a long time, but I'd been meaning to try PassionFish for a long time now. I had some family in town and I finally was able to make it here. Came in for an early brunch and it wonderful. The food, service and atmosphere were amazing. I'm not going to list everything we got, but you can take a look at my photos for a reference. The restaurant itself was extremely clean and well taken care of. The price for brunch was also extremely reasonable too. I look forward to coming back soon and eating out on their porch. Service is always spot on and if you don't have a rewards card, get one! I just booked my first 5-course meal/wine pairing for 4 using my points and it was beyond exceptional! Beautiful restaurant with several levels though top one doesn't seem to be in use, have had their seafood and other entrees in the past but tonight was my first happy hour- 230-7 on most weekdays, drinks are $6 and appetizers are $7. Prices are high because portions are small. The fries, empeñadas and fish fry were the best. The crab and shrimp nachos were ok- about six nachos total and couldn't really taste the meat, the spring rolls had a good sauce but the filling wasn't anything special, the chicken sliders had a piece of meat the size of a chicken nugget and was over fried. The lobster and spicy roll was delicious though it was warm since it is baked in the oven and fell apart easily . Excellent service, waiter has worked there 11 years, super friendly and knowledgeable about the menu choices. Restaurant was pretty packed for a Th night and tables were not spread out as much as I like. We were at a round table in the corner and there was a table that sat right behind us. read more

I've been to Passion Fish a few times...last time being my birthday but it has been years since I've gone back. Recently went to Passion Fish, to celebrate a birthday. First the hostess was very friendly. Our server/waitress was friendly, helpful and pretty attentive. I wasn't too impressed last time I was here but.... this time I was very satisfied with everything we ordered. Starting from our cocktails to appetizers and our entrées. Char-grilled salmon was prepared/cooked perfectly, not dried or over cooked, very moist and no uncooked parts. Plus the salmon was like a steak size. Deliciously grilled asparagus!! So tender!! Steak was cooked rare....just how my husband likes. Well seasoned. Pretty tender. And big! Mac & cheese with chunks of lobster meats. So yummy! Jumbo prawns were huge! And fresh! So good! I ended up here for a friend's birthday celebration.So i really didn't have to deal with wait time.They were actually pretty accommodating since originally there was a reservation for 14 people but only 6 people were present. They added a bit of a personal touch by Printing Happy Birthday to our friend on their menu. Our waiter suggested that we try the crab cakes since in his opinion they were better then maryland's crab cakes.As we waited a table mate decided to order a side of Boardwalk Fries.Surprisingly these fries were very much boardwalk fries not your typical frozen restaurant french fry.Soft and crispy with a nice hint of salt. The quality of the crab cake was amazing you could taste the freshness in the crabmeat and there were actual chunks of crab..no fillers like there usually are and there wasn't a strong mustardy flavor.Although a touch of salt wouldn't have hurt. The waiter also suggested that the lemon beurre blanc or the classic tarter sauce would be best to accompany the cakes. In that they didn't over power the flavor of the crabmeat.I can't say that the lemon beurre blanc added to much to the cakes itself but it wasn't bad. As a side I chose to get a simple green salad with the cakes in that i didn't want an overly heavy side.The salad was decent the vinaigrette need a bit more flavor or spice it was a little flat for me even with the fresh ground pepper. For dessert because the birthday girl gets a free dessert she ordered the Warm Donut holes and another table mate ordered the Chocolate Mousse Praline Crunch. The Donut holes looked very airy and light although i didn't really get to try those. The chcolate mousse praline crunch wasn't too bad it was very chocolatey though.. so if your not a chocolate lover i don't really recommend it. It's very rich and dense almost like a thick chocolate ganache than a light and airy mousse.The praline crunch did add a nice texture to the dessert. Overall: Our waiter was very knowledgeable and attentive he gave a lot of suggestions and was very descriptive about many of the menu items .The decor was really modern and eye catching.Menu is a bit pricey but your paying for quality. For my first meal I had a taste for gumbo, I ordered it and it was SO bland, I sent it back, Charlie recommended I get the Salmon dish, LISTEN that dish was BOMB!! My friend ordered as a appetizer the octopus, she let me try it, bomb!!! I ordered the churros for dessert (recommended by Charlie) I will only eat churros from here. I came here with a friend for HH. I always forget how dressy RTC is for happy hour as I strolled in with leggings and a denim jacket (note I was underdressed). They have hh deals till 6:30PM. Everything on their list is $5 which is pretty nice. We ordered the hamburger sliders, the crab sliders, the nachos and the spring rolls. For drinks we both ordered a Moscow Mule. Not the best Moscow Mule I've ever had. It had more alcohol than ginger beer than what I would have liked. The food was pretty good. I really liked the crab sliders! The spring rolls were very interesting. I was a bigger fan of the sauce, which was a standard spring roll sauce but with a kick of jalapeños, than the rolls themselves. First time here tonight and I have to say it was one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. Had the shrimp tempura roll as an appetizer and it was phenomenal. The crab cakes came at a steep price of $55 which gave me pause on deciding to order them, but I did and they were exceptional so I didn't regret it at all. The sides that we shared at our table were all excellent. Could it get better? Yes indeed as the key lime tart and churros were a perfect dessert ending. Been here a few times when traveling to the VA/DC area and what can I say, I HEART this place! It's a pescatarian's dream. Decor is nice, service is always on point, happy hour at the bar is happy and swinging with many local after 5-ers and of course, let's not forget the food. The food is amazing! Order anything. It's still guaranteed to be great. This particular night, we started off with a nice mix of briny MA oysters and some sweet local ones. Tasted distinctly different but so yummy in their own unique way. Next, we opted for the Passionfish maki which was pretty good as well. Depending on which part of the maki you tried, it varied which fish you were going to eat as part of the roll. Lastly, the red Thai curry lobster claypot was beyond words. My coworker and I both ordered this and we ate the entire thing in less than 10 minutes. Even the sauce wasn't spared. We sopped every last little bit with the crackers on our table. It doesn't look very appetizing because of the lack of garnishes but I'd gladly sacrifice the look in exchange for that WOW taste. Until next time, Passionfish.
